On the night she's expected to win a prestigious crime writers award author Philippa Roberts vanishes. Her disappearance has a knock on effect for Eve, the narrator of her books as her life falls apart. But 11 months on a new manuscript is found for the 10th book in Philippa's successful Tower series and Eve is once again in the narrators booth. But this story reads differently from all the others and Eve starts to work as an amateur sleuth to try to discover what happened to Philippa almost a year ago.
This was a really good read, fast enough once to keep the reader intruiged and interested, a few red herrings along the way as well and an explosive twist in the story, at least one I didn't envisage anyway
This is my 7th book by K. L. Slater and this one moved a little S-L-O-W for me so it took me awhile to get into it. I almost gave up but with all the 5-star reviews, I just had to keep going plus I loved all her other books. I did enjoy the book overall even though I did not like Hugo and said a few choice words against him! Lol Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published January 2023.

A brilliant thriller from K L Slater with a plot twist that you won’t see coming.
Easy to read in one sitting, 4 stars.
A crime fiction author, Phillipa Roberts, made famous by the nine-book Tower series, disappeared as she was on her way to an awards night and since then, nobody had a lead as to what happened to her. Her body hasn’t been found, yet her tenth book is due for release. With that, Eve Hewitt, who narrated the Tower series audiobook, is going through major life changes the same time as the news erupted about Phillipa. One day she was given the opportunity to improve her situation by being offered to narrate the tenth installment but along the way has found some questionable details in connection to the author’s disappearance.
Amazing story by K.L. Slater! The story pulled me in from the beginning, and has been “unputdownable” since then! I love guessing the whodunit part of it, and I even caught myself going down the rabbit hole as I venture on different theories. I usually don’t do that, but I wold like to think that it’s because I got invested in the story so much. I did have a hunch as to what happened, but I did not see the twist coming! It was a fun read that leaves you guessing until the end.
The Narrator will be released on January 6, 2023, by Bookouture.

Another brilliant book from one of my favourite authors which kept me on the edge of my seat all the way. Great characters and what an ending, just great, everything brought together with a satisfactory conclusion.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.
Received a copy of The Narrator by K L Slater through Netgalley.
Definitely a page Turner, loved all the characters and the way that they develop through the book bringing out their true identity.
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers.
My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well.
Another very exciting and suspenceful story by one of my favourite authors who never lets me down. Eve has fallen on hard times and then receives a call from her publisher to say that her services are need again to narrate the latest book in the Tower series. For Eve this means she needs to head back to London. She is little bit apprehensive about this as it means she will have to leave her daughter Scarlett with her mother but she is desperate to rebuild her career and find a home of her own.
Eve has known author Philippa Roberts since she began narrating the Tower books series and has always felt a strong personal bond with her. But then Philippa disappears when she does not turn up for an Awards night and ten months later no one knows what has happened to her. Eve can't leave this alone and decides to keep asking questions trying to find out any information she can that may help to locate Philippa's whereabouts. This decision leads to some quite hefty repercussions and for us readers lots of excitement as we follow the events that will unfold. There are complex situations and characters, Eve's ex husband and his new wife, an obsessed fan and Philippa's wife Flo.
I have to say I did not see the end coming and was absolutely glued to the pages as I thought I had worked out who was the behind everything that was happening. This is what I love about this authors work, she always keeps you guessing and another book that I highly recommend. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
Book Title: The Narrator
Author: K.L. Slater
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: January 6, 2023
My Rating: 3.5 Stars
I am a K.L. Slater fan; I have read only four of her novels "The Marriage", "The Widow", "The Girlfriend" and "The Apartment" - All were great.
Two earned 5 stars while the other two earned 4+ stars from stingy star me!
I went into this blind as I love this author!
Philippa Roberts is the author of a bestselling crime series. This story begins as she is on the way to an awards ceremony. She is so excited about being recognized for her successful series. However when her driver makes a strange turn she knows they are NOT on their way to the theatre; she knows she has been kidnapped.
Now almost a year after her disappearance, manuscript #10 is found. Phillipa’s wife Fleur found the manuscript in the attic. Many believe that Phillipa staged her so called kidnapping as a publicity stunt.
Eve Hewitt is ‘the narrator’; she has been approached to narrate the new manuscript as she has narrated the whole series.
Eve is very much attuned to this series and feels like something isn’t quite correct with this new manuscript. She is determined to find out what really happened to Philippa.
Story held my interest it wasn’t the big WOW that I expected from Kim!
Doesn’t mean it wasn’t good! I certainly am looking forward to her next story
Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for the this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for January 6, 2023
Another fast-paced and gripping thriller from the excellent KL Slater, full of twists and turns and stunning revelations. The titular narrator is responsible for the audiobooks of a well-known crime writer who disappeared under mysterious circumstances; when the transcript of a new book appears, The Narrator is stunned by the change of style and characterisation, and sets out to investigate. A very enjoyable read.
An audiobook narrator, Eve, takes it upon herself to try and figure out the truth when one of the U.K.'s most popular authors, Phillipa, goes missing abruptly and vanishes without a trace. The discoveries Eve makes begin to unravel slowly and while searching for clues about what happened to Phillipa, she discovers truths about her past that hit too close to home.
I love books by K.L. Slater. Although in my opinion, this book starts off a bit slow, PLEASE stick with it! The twists and turns and the huge plot twist at the end is entirely worth it! One of my favorite things about this book is that you think you have a good idea on where the plot is going and then suddenly you are blindsided and realize you had it all wrong. K.L. Slater drops a major plot twist at the end and it's one of those brilliant plot twists, that make you look back and go, "I totally overlooked that!" - I give 4 stars because I personally felt the book started off too slow and did not pick up until the middle to end. Otherwise, a fantastic read and another great mystery/thriller!
Buckle up, K.L. Slater takes her readers on another wild ride! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This was a really interesting book to read, it dealt with a very interesting idea for all of us book addicts, that a reader notices when the author is stressed and follows the clues to discover why she vanished! It was really well written so the three timelines, past, near past and present, all married well together and were easy to tell apart due to the different voices heard during each one.
The characters were really well written so you could understand why they did what they did when it all unravelled. Speaking of which, the twisty-ness of this book was such that it almost felt like I was reading a different book all the way through to how it ended BUT that was down to my assumptions and you know what they say about when you assume anything!
For me, this is another amazing read by K.L. Slater and I would heartily recommend it to anyone, if you enjoy the blurb, buy the book!
Kim Slater’s thrillers are always a guaranteed good read, but this one was an outstanding one.
The Narrator follows single mother of one, Eve, who is the narrator of audiobooks, most famously the DI Towers series by author Philippa Roberts who has been missing for the past ten months. Eve is delighted to be invited to narrate the long awaited tenth book in the series which has been found at Philips’ home in her absence.
When Eve notices some major difference in the character traits and patterns in the latest book she wonders if they may be clues that could help her to find out what happened to Philippa. Will Eve be able to solve the mystery? Will she be able to protect herself and her daughter Scarlet? An excellent read which keeps you guessing right until the very end.
Thanks to NetGalley for a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received a complimentary ARC of The Narrator by K.L Slater in exchange for my honest review.
Wow, does this book ever deliver! The twists and turns just keep coming, and just when you think you have it figured out..... you don't. This will be a book you remember long after you finish it. The characters are well developed and some you grow to care for while others, not so much, then you turn a few more pages and everything changes. The descriptions are vivid and pull you right in to the story.
Philippa Roberts, author of the D.I Towers series, has been nominated for a prestigious award that she has long coveted. On the way to the award ceremony, things take a turn and Philippa never arrives. There's a search, but there is not a shred of evidence uncovered.
Fleur, Philippa's wife, noticed that she was acting differently and that she was more reclusive than usual. Surely, she didn't just walk away from her family and friends?
Nearly a year after her disappearance, a 10th book is found hidden in Philippa's office. Harris-Lasson, the publisher of the D.I. Towers series is ecstatic and want to get it out to the public as soon as possible.
Eve, and her 5 year old daughter, Scarlet, have been living with her mother, and Eve needs a way out of the rut that her life is in. In the past 18 months her father died, her husband cheated on her with a colleague of Eve's and Philippa Roberts went missing. Eve was the narrator for the previous 9 books in the series by Roberts, but since her disappearance, her work has dwindled.
Eve gets a phone call telling her of the discovery of the 10th book and she is offered the job as narrator. Eve is desperate to do it, even if it means leaving Scarlet with her mother while she travels to London to work.
As Eve starts the narration, she notices some glaring discrepancies in the way the characters are portrayed, the way they speak, the things they say. When Eve brings it to the attention of the editor, she is told to "forget about it and just narrate." The further Eve gets into the book, she notices similarities to someone she knows well. Then things start happening, Eve's room is ransacked, and the creepy head of Philippa's fan club, Chad, keeps trying to contact her. (Just to name a few with no spoilers)
Eve feels that Philippa is trying to say something through the characters, through the discrepancies, but will searching for Philippa cost Eve her daughter? Her life?
Well I didn’t see that coming! This book had me guessing until the very end. Quick read. I have only read one other book by this author, but I want to read more!
My Review:
OMG, loved!!!!! This author is one of my favorites and this book proved why. She takes a book and transports the reader to feel like that they are actual living the life of each and every character. Oh and don’t even get me started on all the twists and turns that came with this one as well. I would have never guessed that ending, not in a million years. I don’t know where to start with this book. The characters all had something to hide and it was wonderful trying figuring it all out at the end. You never knew what was going to come next and what characters secret was going to be exposed next. Now that awesome plot. I absolutely loved this story line. A famous author gone missing while her good friend that narrated all her books tried to find answers to where she went. I really learned a lot from this book about the publishing world while trying to solve a mystery along with it. For us avid readers the plot couldn’t get any better than this. Now on to that shocking ending. It left me speechless and wanting more. I couldn’t ask for a better ending than this one. I can’t wait to read more of this authors books and you will not regret picking up this book up.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The Narrator
by K.L. Slater
This was a very good book. The ending will have your jaw drop. What a shock.
This was a very unique read! At one moment, the story seemed to get a little bit weird, but then there was a twist at the end - just when I started thinking that this here now all of a sudden looks more like a wannabe cozy detective story, it all turned around. The very end felt somewhat slightly rushed, especially compared to the semi-mild pace of the book, but I still enjoyed it a lot! KL Slater definitely now is one of the authors I will keep an eye out for any new books they write!
A fast paced thriller about a missing author who on the eve of a huge award show goes missing and no one is able to find her. Months later after the police have given up the search Eve is called back to London to narrate a new book that had been discovered from the missing author. As Eves life starts to go back to normal her ex husband comes back and starts interfering and demanding and Eve is still confused as the latest book feels nothing like any of her friends previous books and she is still determined to find out what happened to the her friend.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author KL Slater for the arc.
Having read several books by this author before i was delighted to receive this to read and review.
Wow whata book kept me hooked from start to finish and just when you thought you had it worked out another twist at the end put that theory out of the window.
