Multiple POVs and a few different timelines, but very easy to follow. This is my 3rd KL Slater book and I love that she always comes up with unique plots that don’t fall into stereotypical tropes. She is easily in my top 5 favorite authors after this book!!! And The way that Eve starts to do her own detective work on Phillipa’s disappearance is brilliant ( don’t want to give anything away). I love when you read a novel and suspect everyone and anyone could be involved. I couldn’t put this one down and the ending had me blown away 🤯 Also, love that the mailman is called the “postie” and the use of the word “scupper”.

The Narrator is a completely unputdownable page turner. It has twists and turns galore and nothing is quiet what it seems. K.L Slater is one of my favourite authors and this book did not disappoint. I highly recommend The Narrator.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.

I really enjoyed this book! I stayed up way too late reading this book! There were lots of good twists at the end and characters were not who I thought they were. Would definitely recommend and look forward to reading more by this author!!

This one is responsible for the giant bags under my eyes, I just couldn’t put it down. The storyline just grips you from the first word and the suspense doesn’t let up. The pace is spot on and gives you just enough to keep your interest and you can’t turn the pages fast enough. It’s really cleverly written and you are watching everyone and have them all guilty at one point or another. Loved the different array of characters but my god Hugo made my blood boil. This is a really quick easy read but an intriguing one. Loved it… K.L Slater just gets better and better.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read #TheNarrator

I only discovered K.L. Slater’s books by accident and am delighted she is such a prolific author, as everything she writes is so riveting. She is on fine form with this thriller entitled ‘The Narrator’. The main character we are initially introduced to is Eve, a single mother who has lost her lucrative work as a narrator for a best-selling author, Philippa Roberts, after the writer has mysteriously disappeared. The police enquiries so far have produced no leads, so Eve takes it upon herself to investigate whilst also negotiating living back at her mother’s house and negotiating with her ex-husband Hugo and his new girlfriend. Laced with looks into the publishing industry, insights into toxic relationships, and a growing awareness that Eve is in danger, this is a fantastic read. More please, K.L. Slater! I would like to thank NetGalley and the publishers for the free ARC I received in exchange for this honest and unbiased book review.

The Narrator kept me page turning and guessing until the very end. It has been awhile since I have read one book full of so many despicable characters. The bad guys were bad and deceitful but the main character Eve was likable and relatable and it was nice to watch her get her confidence in herself back over the course of the story. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC of The Narrator in exchange for my honest review.

Eve was a narrator for a publisher where she narrated the Tower series by Philippa Roberts, but Philippa disappears on the way to an awards dinner. Eve is traumatized by this and her father dying and ends up back in her mothers home with her daughter Scarlet. When the tenth book appears in Philippa’s house Eve is asked back to narrate it, but she has a lot of questions about why Philippa disappeared.

I really enjoyed this story, it’s fast paced with a twist that I didn’t see coming. It’s an easy read with great characters. I didn’t like Hugo ( Eves ex husband), but I think the author wants you to dislike him.

Overall a quick, twisty thriller.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy for an honest review.

An unputdownable book which is brilliant. Having previously narrated a book series of an author who suddenly disappeared another book is found that was written prior to their disappearance….or was it? Great twists at the end loved it

The Narrator by K.L Slater is a gripping psychological thriller. K.L. Slater continues to take you on a wild ride with her novel.
Eve works hard at her job, but struggles when some issues come up. She is finally back at her dream job, but notices some problems lead to questions that she needs answers. As Eve starts questioning what she is finding out she realizes that not everything is what it seems. Will she be able to overcome what she finds out or will it break her?
This story is fast paced and makes you want to keep reading to find out what is going to happen. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good psychological thriller.

I sped through this fast paced story about a famous author’s mysterious disappearance. The twists and turns surprised me and the short chapters from various points of view were gripping. I really liked the characters (and strongly disliked others!) which is a sign of a good book to me.

This was a solid read that had me turning the pages quickly. There were unexpected twists and I will say that I never saw that ending coming. The author did an excellent job of flushing out her characters. She certainly had me disliking the ex husband and wanting to reach through the book to shake him sometimes.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.

My thanks to Bookouture for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘The Narrator’ by K.L. Slater.

This standalone psychological thriller proved almost impossible to put down.

The narrator of the title is Eve whose career as a voice actor hit a bump eighteen months ago. First her father took his own life, then six months later Eve discovered that her husband, Hugo, was having an affair. Two months on and top selling crime writer Philippa Roberts, whose nine DI Jane Tower police procedurals Eve had narrated, disappeared on the night of the Smoking Gun Crime and Thriller Awards. All this mounted up and Eve had a breakdown. She left her job and returned home to Nottingham, moving in with her mother. She is now struggling to raise her five-year old daughter, Scarlet.

When news breaks that the manuscript for a tenth DI Tower novel has been found, Philippa’s publishers invite Eve to narrate its audiobook edition to preserve continuity. She agrees though finds that Hugo, now living with his pregnant girlfriend, is quick to take the opportunity to undermine Eve’s relationship with Scarlet. I did not like Hugo at all!

Aside from Eve’s chapters we also get some from the perspective of Chad, Philippa’s creepy super-fan, and glimpses of a third perspective that I won’t elaborate on to avoid entering spoiler territory.

As said above, this was a page turner and Slater also manages to get in a few swipes at the publishing industry as well as those readers who are always clamouring for the next book in a series and are quick to point out any plot holes or other inconsistencies. Still, these seemed quite good natured rather than snarky. I mean we’ve all been there.

Overall, I found ‘The Narrator’ entertaining with plenty of twists and red herrings.

This is a twisty and intriguing thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Eve narrates books for a living and when a book surfaces from an author that disappeared months ago and Eve is asked to narrate it, she jumps at the chance. Having received the book by email, Eve realises something's not quite right with it and so begins Eve's quest to find out just what happened to the missing author but what she finds, is far more than she expected.

With excellent characters, an enthralling plot and twists that surprise, this is a great book and Ms Slater is fast becoming one of my go-to authors.

A twisty, psychological thriller that I devoured in quick time and thanks must go to Bookouture and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of The Narrator.

Those that narrate books may not be top of mind for those of us that tend to read versus listen to books and this novel brings that perspective to the forefront. Eve has narrated Phillipa Roberts’ previous books, but her disappearance 10 months earlier has meant a lack of work for Eve who, as a single mom to Scarlett is struggling to support her family after divorcing her somewhat deadbeat ex. Fortunately, a new book has been discovered and the publisher wants her to narrate it. As she gets early access to the manuscript, she is unsettled. This book is unlike any of the other books and has dialogue and background that don’t match up. Eve starts digging and is soon threatened to stop which only convicts her that something is wrong and she believes she may be able to figure it out and solve the mystery of her disappearance.

I liked the story and it held my attention. I had my suspicions, some valid, some off the mark and I liked that I didn’t have it all figured out. Thanks for the opportunity to read and review an advanced reader copy of the story.

The last book of 2022, The Narrator by K.L. Slater which I received from Bookouture via Netgalley. It will be out within the next week, on 6 January.

After the disappearance of bestselling author Philippa Roberts, Eve gets a new chance with recording the audiobooks when a new manuscript of Roberts is found. However, Eve gets the unrevised manuscript first and she thinks a message might be hidden in the pages. Her personal life is also turned upside down with her little girl and her ex-husband. But, it all comes together in the end.

This was a wonderful quick read and honestly, I did not expect the ending at all! Usually, I know quite early on who is involved and who might be the person of interest. But not here. I just couldn't figure out how certain people where involved. I knew they had to be somewhat involved, but not to what extent. I also liked the characters a lot. You got carried away by them and their lives.

It's definitely a great story with some great twists and turns in it with a brilliant ending!

4,5/5⭐

When popular author Philippa Gregory goes missing and a manuscript for the next novel in her series is discovered, questions arise. Did she write the novel before she disappeared? Did someone else write the novel and try to pass it off as hers? Those questions plague the narrator of her books as she prepares to record this “found” novel. We’re introduced to a cast of character’s in narrator Eve’s life, as well Philippa’s publishing house. Who did what to whom?! If you think you know how this will end, you’ll have to think again a few times!
While I was given the ebook for review, I actually used a credit at audible to listen to the narrators. I’m glad I did as Kristin and Claire are superb!

The Narrator is a twisted thriller involving Eve who is the narrator for the audio books written by Philippa Roberts. Philippa Roberts has written the Tower Series which has nine books. Eve has narrated all of the books.

On the night of the Smoking Gun Awards, the only award she has not won so far, Philippa goes missing. Almost a year later a new book reported as the tenth in the series was found in the house Philippa shared with her wife, is found while renovations are under way. Eve is asked to narrate the new book and she accepts. Eve has had a few problems since Philippa has disappeared and has moved home with her mother in the meantime.

Eve gets the copy of the new book but notices there are some inaccuracies with the continuity of the book. Having signed a confidentiality contract, she tries to discuss the book with the people that are publishing the book, but she quickly sees that no one is interested and insists she do her job.

There are several other plots that are mixed in to keep the reader guessing. I found the plot to be highly entertaining. The characters were believable. I have read several books by K. L. Slater and have enjoyed them all. The plots are twisted and unpredictable until the end which is the way I like enjoy thrillers.
