This was a very interesting book. Great characters, great storyline. The author let's you in on a lot what's going on and why, but there is still a ton of who did what that you need to figure out. Interesting ups and downs and different from a lot of thrillers. Kudos.
Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and mostly the author for the chance to read this advanced copy.
A super predictable read. Overall, lacklustre and not very exciting. The characters were extremely unlikable and poorly developed.
I found it very difficult to connect with or sympathize with Claire. She is an extremely frustrating character. I feel like so much could have been avoided if she just opened up and talked about things! It was to the point that it made the plot a bit silly and unrealistic. Why didn't she share with her husband that they were in danger? I just don't get it. Made it difficult to read. .
Full of secrets, deceit and lies. I loved the characters just as much as I hated them. It was so well written that I was completely consumed by the story. 5 stars!!
This book fell a bit flat for me. I did enjoy the ending and how fast paced it was. Having previously read some of Sara's books I just felt that it didnt do it for me.
With two young kids, Lenny and Claire are already teetering on the brink. But then Lenny starts receiving text messages telling him his wife is a liar, and their new neighbor seems to know Claire is not who she says she is …
I thought this was a really interesting spin on a classic domestic suspense trope. The Claire character is a personal trainer, and I just really liked her — she was far from your typical wife, and I never saw the twist coming. If you’re a domestic suspense fan, add this one to your shelves for when you need a quick read to yank you out of a slump!
A quick read so much guessing going on but somehow missed the mark on making it interesting enough to care what would happen in the end. Was just ok.for me....I hope you enjoy it more.

A domestic thriller about a husband and wife with a deeply flawed relationship. Claire hides her traumatic past from her husband, Lenny, thus creating problems and danger.
Claire is an extremely unlikable character. If she would just open up and talk to her husband, it feels like the problems could be solved. The miscommunication here is infuriating.
This was a quick read, not very deep or involved. You can see where this book is going, so it was kind of disappointing.
Thanks to NetGalley, Blackstone Publishing, and Sara Foster for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is more of a domestic thriller than a suspense and if you are into books that are quick and easy reads that maybe have quite a few holes in the plot lines and the main character has the helpless woman role going on this is right up your alley.
Lenny and Claire’s marriage is struggling. Claire has shut herself off and is only there for the kids. When Lenny starts getting texts saying Claire is not who he thinks she is, he starts to wonder just what’s going on. Lenny is in the midst of a relationship he has mixed feelings about as he loves Claire deeply and is unsure of his next moves. When some overly friendly, rather odd neighbors move in across the street the mystery amps up. Is Lenny finally about to find out Claire’s secrets? Foster does a nice job of throwing in the red herring, keeping the reader guessing. A fast paced read that’s entertaining for a minute. Thank you to Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
I want to thank Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me read and review The Deceit by author Sara Foster. She is an Australian, a previous author of Beneath the Shadows and The Hush and has recently earned her PHD.
“However much he wants to know the truth, he’s not sure he’s brave enough to demand it.”
Claire is always looking over her shoulder, waiting for her past to find her. Meanwhile, she has made a good life with a loving husband and adorable twins.
And then Tilly moves in across the street! Bob, their bearded dragon goes missing. What happened to the second set of key? Who is sending flowers?
And Claire knows somehow they found her. And her family is in danger!
The wanting to know and the suspense will keep you reading.
The Deceit publishes February 7,2023.
Thank you Blackstone Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. IYKYK, my reviews are always honest.
I listened to this on audio as well, which I HIGHLY recommend. Loved both of the narrators, it really brought the story to life. Low-key, I'm very surprised by the reviews moaning about how insufferable Claire is. I've read similar female characters who don't get as much hate from readers. Also, I understood why homegirl was going through it given her background. It made sense why she was withdrawn, distant, and insecure. But to each their own!
This was a standard popcorn thriller. It's largely based on the miscommunication trope. Yeetage of disbelief required.
This was a very suspenseful and dark read, telling the story of a couple that are less than perfectly honest with one another. Loved every curveball the author throws our way!
3.5 stars rounding up here on NetGalley
I liked this one okay. The story was good, but the ending felt very incomplete. I was left with a sense of “That’s it?” and that was disappointing. I think I was especially disappointed because the last book by this author was so good, it is one of my favorite books. Oh well. I will definitely keep reading this author.
Lenny and Claire’s marriage has been a little rocky as of late. Claire, who is keeping secrets from her past and emotionally unavailable, suggests an open marriage. When new neighbors move in across the street, will Claire’s carefully constructed lies and life come crashing down?
The Deceit is gripping and fast paced. At a little over 200 pages, it’s a quick read that can be consumed in just one or two sittings. The characters are well-crafted and while Claire is beyond unlikeable, stay-at-home dad Lenny is complex and sympathetic. Although the plot relies heavily on lack of communication, this pacey thriller is entertaining and satisfying.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for providing me an advance copy of this book.
This is a fast paced story about Claire and Lenny who have a troubled marriage based on secrets being kept by Claire from her disturbing and mysterious past. Enter snoopy new neighbors who seem to know more than they should and trouble begins! I was surprised at the ending, had no idea how it was all going to play out. Thank you Netgalley, Blackstone Publishing and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. This book is available for purchase on February 7, 2023
Claire and Lenny are dealing with marital issues, so Claire suggests they have an open marriage since she is no longer interested in a physical relationship. Claire has secrets from her past and Lenny is a stay at home dad to their kids. Claire is nervous when she finds out the new neighbors are from her hometown. What does she have to hide? Is Claire and her family in danger?
This was a quick read, written by alternating characters.
Thank you, NetGalley for an ARC of "The Deceit."
This is what I would call a Lifetime thriller, meaning it is a very short, suspenseful read! It can be read in one setting and is a satisfying way to spend a few hours.
This story is about Lenny and Claire, a married couple with a lot of issues. Claire, happens to be hiding her past, which as all thriller fans know, won’t be great for her, or her marriage. When her past comes back to confront her, Claire could lose everything.
While I guessed the ending of this book, I was never bored. The pacing is great, and while not an original idea, a fun afternoon escape.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the copy of The Deceit. More of a domestic suspense book and not a thriller or much of a mystery. If you like your heroines strong and intelligent, maybe skip this book. Claire is so annoying and I cannot believe that she hid her past from her husband, even when it affected her marriage so much he seeks comfort in another woman’s arms. They have kids and she STILL doesn’t bother to tell him, even if they might all be in danger. If you don’t think too hard about the story, this is a fast, easy read. This just wasn’t the book for me at all.
This book was a page turner from beginning to end. A wife with a deadly secret who has started her life over with a loving husband and a beautiful family. But someone wants to ruin this new life for her. There are so many suspects it’ll have your head spinning. Highly recommend. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you so much for the publisher for allowing me to read this book, I thought it was really good! I am excited when this comes out and I can add this to my collection.
