I really enjoyed The Hush and this one was no different!

The Deceit by Sara Foster is a great domestic suspense novel.

Foster has written a riveting novel. It's fast-paced plot was filled with it all... intrigue, suspense, and secrets.
The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
An entertaining, easy read with twists and turns.
She skillfully ratchets up the suburban thriller here.

I sort of liked this, even though there wasn't much suspense or any thrills. I got caught up in the story, cared about the characters, and was invested enough to see what happened. I wanted the husband's band to be successful probably most of all. All in all, this was an OK domestic story -- I don't feel like I wasted my time.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was an ok book from a usually good author.
I didn’t really care much for the character sun the book so that made it difficult to really like.

I picked this book up because I like the author. she is an absolute goddess when it comes to writing about women's experiences. This book, however, gives us lot of a man's perspective and she nailed it!
I loved Lenny and Claire. Their boring family life was relatable and that made the weird stuff and the terror so much better.
This was beautiful.

Covid finally caught me …

I spent 3 years protecting myself and running from this wild virus and the minute I let down my guard, it swooped right in and plagued my entire body .

Although the first couple of days were extremely difficult and I found it hard to concentrate, I have been on the mend and able to finally get to the book I have been eye balling for quite sometime .

The Deceit

The perfect book to keep me company during this trying time . Sara Foster is a literary genius ! There is no way I would lose my focus with this one . The title just nailed it! This is a book jam packed with deceit, secrets and twisted gasp worthy moments!

I’m a huge fan of domestic thrillers but this one is like nothing I have read before and that’s saying a lot!

This is a book to be read and loved by all, easy 5 stars!

I found Deceit by Sara Foster to be a decent read. The characters are unlikeable but that’s not a deal breaker for me. I don’t know why the main character lies for decades to her husband when it’s not really anything at all to lie about. I kept thinking there would be a great reveal or twist and there really wasn’t. It was okay but I was glad to get to the end and move on.

The Deceit is a novel destined to be disliked by many readers. The characters are not very interesting and the main character who is the one keeping secrets from her husband is not at all likable. Theirs is a troubled marriage in which the husband stays home to care for young twins and the wife is the breadwinner. There are sub plots revolving around an “open” marriage, a philandering, abusive husband and a music career put on hold.

Although I cannot recommend this book to others, I thank NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book prior to its publication.

Different from her other books but she definitely brings a fresh twist to the domestic psychological suspense genre

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The title of the novel grabbed my attention, and when I read the description, I had to add it to my review list. I got hooked into the story immediately and empathized with Claire, the protagonist, right from the beginning, even though I didn't agree with some of her choices. Her husband Lenny's choices either. The couple is deeply flawed, and troubled, and I wanted them to work out their problems.

The Deceit is a quick read. I wanted the story to be longer since I enjoyed it so much, but as they say in the theater, "leave the stage with the audience wanting more". That strategy certainly worked for this novel. A recommended read.

This could have been a great domestic thriller but one crucial piece failed: Claire. She's a half asset character. Her choices and actions are ridiculous. She makes too many mountains out of mole hills.

This is one of my fastest readings! It was solid, riveting, intriguing and I even thought to give it four stars but I hate the guts of Claire and her aim to make stupid mistakes incessantly! I wanted to empathize with the character but each time I try harder she did another thing made me scream aloud! Finally I gave up and felt sorry for her husband!

Quick recap of the plot: Clair and Lenny are picture perfect couple but don’t get fooled by their appearances. They have their own serious issues. Claire let’s her husband to look for the intimacy elsewhere. She’s keeping big secrets she is afraid of sharing ( OMG! I wish she came clean at the first place so she would save for family and her dignity at the beginning)

New noisy neighbors’ moving to next door makes things worst. They imply they know so many things about Claire’s past. Claire realizes her family is under treat and she has to find a way to save them.

I loved the author’s previous works. I mostly enjoyed the book at least I didn’t get bored but the ending and the characterization ( of course I’m talking about Claire) gave me second thoughts. So I’m giving my three solid stars!

I still want to read more works of Sara Foster. I hope next book’s heroine will be so much likable.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.

This was a really quick, enjoyable read. It's perfect for a road trip or a flight, or even just an escape for a few hours. It wasn't too in depth where you need to really concentrate and it's not trying to surprise you with crazy twists and turns. It just is what it is and I really liked the small reprieve it gave from the usual books I read. Three and a half Stars.

Quick read about secrets. Claire and Lenny are dealing with marital issues. Claire has secrets from her past. She is entitled to her secrets,. Lenny is a stay at home dad to their kids. Claire has given Lenny permission to seek affection elsewhere since she is not interested in beiing physical with him anymore. That would be reason enough for problems to crop up, but the new neighbors make Claire nervous when they mention her home town. Do they know Claire's real identity? Is Claire or her family in danger? I would never have guessed the way this story played out. Very interesting take on relationships and boundaries.

“The Deceit” is the most recent novel from author Sara Foster. This story focuses on what happens when age old secrets come back to haunt you. Claire and Lenny have a marriage on the rocks, but when threats and odd occurrences start happening right around the time their new neighbors move in, they have to work together to save their marriage and their family.

What it got right:
I love how much detail was able to be put into this book despite the fact that it’s a bit shorter. This book is also very accurate in terms of stalking and how it can ruin people’s lives. Although this story takes place in Australia, the US is lacking in laws to help protect victims from stalkers. It seems that even after a pattern of incidents, the victims aren’t always able to be protected by law enforcement. In general there weren’t many anti-stalking laws until very recently. Stalking can leave people looking over their shoulder for the rest of their lives, and sadly they aren’t always wrong to do so.

What it could improve on:
I felt that despite the fact that Claire obviously has trauma, most of the problems in this story could have been resolved if she just talked to her husband. I think in a way this made it a bit difficult to feel sympathetic for her. I know this is easier said then done. I also think the ending was a bit predictable / lackluster and I would’ve preferred something a bit more surprising.

Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the ARC of this book, as well as Sara Foster for writing it.

On the surface, Claire and Lenny look like the perfect couple. They love each other and their children, but things are not what they appear. Claire has been keeping secrets from her husband, secrets that could destroy everything they hold dear; and Lenny is getting anonymous texts hinting that his wife is lying to him. Things come to a head when new neighbors arrive and they appear to know far more about Claire and Lenny than they should. It’s only a matter of time before Claire’s secrets are revealed and then things get nasty. Foster is a master at domestic suspense and her legion of fans will not be displeased by her latest endeavor
