So I went into this expecting a wild thrilling ride and I mostly got what I was looking for. I will 100% say this kept my attention, through the whole book. We learn about Aiden through the 3 women in his life, his daughter Cecilia, his crush Emily, and the woman he kidnapped Rachel.
Loved Rachel and boy is she a fighter. She is exceptionally smart as well, as she is always thinking several steps ahead. I did not understand Emily. She is obsessed. Poor Cecilia is just a child, a teen, who does not understand how the world works yet.
I was left with many many questions though. I am going to need this author to give me some good answers. I need to know more!!
I switched from audio to ebook to hardback for this one. The audio was lovely and the characters were well done. Highly recommend the audio.
4 stars and big thanks to Netgalley, the authors, and publishers for allowing me access to read and review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was very well written and a page turner indeed. The characters and storyline was what kept me interested. I really liked the multi-POVs in the story, just only wished we were able to have Aidan’s POV towards the end.

Wow! What a debut. The Quiet Tenant was a very quick read since I couldn't put it down once I started. I really enjoyed the short chapters, different point of views, and overall read of this book.

It took me a while to get into the second person POV. I found the story to be engaging but nothing blew me away. It was rarely suspenseful or thrilling more cut and dry. I enjoyed this book and I feel it’s a good debut novel but not memorable for me personally. I would read more from this author.

A classic literary thriller, Clemence Michallon joins the ranks of Megan Abbott and Gillan Flynn as a new master of feminist crime fiction.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC!
One of the best parts about this book I thought was the format and structure in which we slowly learn more and more about Aiden's history and experience leading up to his latest victim. I was continuously enthralled and kept on my toes about what was going to happen next. Such a unique thriller and absolutely couldn't put it down.

A GRIPPING DEBUT THRILLER - 5 STARS!
I was very excited to receive this ARC of a debut thriller with a rather ominous and intriguing synopsis! This review comes rather late, about 6 months so, but I had to review it to let everyone know how amazing this gripping thriller is! I have recommended this to several friends and customers at the bookstore I work at and I still think about how this was one of the most unexpected 5 star reads I read of 2023!
We follow Aiden Thomas who on the surface, is a lovely family man with a face well known in different facets of his local community. But under the surface...lies a deeply disturbed and psychotic killer!! He hides his victims in the shed under the noses of his wife and daughter for months or years on end before he finally decides to murder them! It's quite sadistic but makes for one hell of a main character in a psychological thriller!
Early in the novel his wife unexpectedly passes away and Aiden and his daughter decide to move to new community. Just one problem...he is currently holding Rachel imprisoned! He has two choices, kill her or bring her along for the ride. So he brings her along and introduces Rachel to his daughter Cecilia as a friend who needs a place to stay for awhile. The point of view switches between Aiden, Rachel and Cecilia and Rachel is carefully trying to devise a plan on how to escape from Aiden's clutches.
But then... The plot thickens. A lovely new woman Emily, who is the owner of a local restaurant catches the eyes of our illustrious killer! It adds her point of view to the equation along with another added complication to Aiden's plot.
I cannot express how faced paced and intense this thriller was! I am not exaggerating that I was on the edge of my seat for a good chunk of this book. The intensity of the plot building up to the climax was like a powder keg! I have not stopped thinking about this book since I read it almost six months ago and I cannot recommend it enough, you owe it to yourself to read THE QUIET TENANT. As this was a debut by the author I cannot wait to see what she has coming up down the road.

This a creepy book of what can happen if someone with a duel role to his life kidnaps you. Can a person make you believe you enjoy being his victim. This is a psychological thriller you can’t put down

The Quiet Tenant was such a pleasant surprise that just crept up on me. This book is based on the story of a kidnappers captive and his daughter which I thought was super unique. That's all that you really need to know going into this story. If you enjoy mystery/thriller's or want to just clutch your pearls while reading a book waiting to know what happens next, this is the book for you.
Also one thing to note is to go and read up on the author and the writing of this book as she discusses her experience while writing during the pandemic, how she crafted this story and also details on the house in the story (yes, it's a real place!).
I will be keeping my eye on this author and her upcoming novels. :)
A big thank you to NetGalley and Knopf for allowing me to read an advance copy!

Such great writing. I was looking for a dark, psychological thriller and I found it! I loved hearing the stories from the various points of views. The story kept me pulled in and it was so hard to put down, as I was totally invested in each of their lives.

This book is a great psychological thriller that you will nnnot want to put down. Aiden is a kidnapper and serial killer. The book deals with how he gets his victims and circumstances that cause him to do this. You will not want to put this book down until you finish it.

If you like slow burn suspense, this is well worth your time. The narration was well done, which all things considered likely made it even more enjoyable since they used various people for the differing character perspectives. I also follow true crime (not to the level of “junkie”), making the captor/captee plot especially realistic. It wasn’t overdone and the author didn’t rush getting to the finale, which I feel is what made this work so well. I could have done without the elongated Emily update at the end. No offense to her character, she just wasn’t someone the reader has much vested into and it detracted from the experience of our victim and what should have been centrally her climatic end (Cecelia would have been a preferable alternative if we needed more than May’s perspective). 4.25 stars

I didn’t love or hate this book. I think it had potential but just fell short. The story wasn’t bad, I wish it was faster. I wish I’d connected with the main character more. I would still recommend. It was a bigger hit with some of my other friends.

This was quite a surprise reading for me. It was suspenseful, and I appreciated the story being told from a kidnapped woman's perspective as she was held by a man for five years. It is also told from other points of view, but when they say that serial killers can be your next-door neighbor, they are correct. There were some twists and turns that I didn't expect!

A suspenseful psychological thriller, with twists and turns that keep a reader fully engaged to the end! As it is told from the perspective of the different female characters, the story is woven together so that you see how the male character is twisted and manipulative. The content is slightly disturbing, but is told without using graphic descriptions of the sexual acts happening in a few moments throughout. I felt this actually added more umph to the story since the author left most of that to the reader's own imagining. This isn't the genre that I normally enjoy to read, but this book really kept me on the edge of my seat and diving further into the storyline.

A dark, sinister and deeply disturbing book about a serial killer who kidnaps and imprisons his victims. He is quiet and gets on well with folks in the neighborhood and he has a teenage daughter. Thrilling, annoying, disturbing, slow at times, cringeworthy. I was all over the place with this one. I enjoyed and loathed it.
**Thanks to the publisher and. NetGalley for an electronic ARC and the opportunity to review this book.

In "The Quiet Tenant," by Clemence Michallon, Aidan Thomas, living in a small town, is a beloved widower known for always lending a helping hand and being a devoted single father to his 13 year old daughter.. What his neighbours don't know is that he is also a serial killer, who kidnapped a young woman and has been physically, sexually, and emotionally abusing her for 5 years.
Told from the perspectives of the kidnapped victim, whom he calls "Rachel," his daughter Cecilia, and Emily, a young women who has a crush on him, this novel is disturbing and profoundly thought- provoking, constantly encouraging the reader to wonder what he/she would do in a similar situation. Although slow at times to build, I believe this novel is an excellent option for any book club.
Thank you NetGalley and Knopf for the ARC.

Aidan Thomas is a grieving widower with a thirteen year old daughter. They recently moved to a new town and everyone loves him,why wouldn’t they? He’s handsome, very helpful and friendly to all neighbors. What they all don’t know is that Aidan is a serial killer and he has kept one of his victims captive for the last five years.
I was looking forward to this book quite a lot, unfortunately I’m disappointed with it. I went into this book without reading the plot hoping for a more thrilling experience, with that said there was absolutely nothing thrilling in this book.
I really don’t like the way this book was written, there was no need to tell it in different POVs, especially not from the deceased victims. The main character “Rachel” was infuriating, there were many times where I found myself rolling my eyes at her decisions.
Saying that Emily was Aidan’s “girlfriend” was a big stretch,I really didn’t see why her POV was necessary? She was also so insufferable and honestly a bit of an obsessive stalker.
There were many times while reading this that I found myself wondering “why do I need to know this information”. Half of the things we learn about the characters don’t make sense or matter to the actual plot.
This was just all over the place and a mess to read.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publishers for giving me this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free advanced copy of this book to read and review.

Thank you Knopf and NetGalley for the e-ARC of the book.
To the outside world Aiden Thomas is a perfect family man who helps neighbors in trouble. But he has a dark secret - he is a serial killer and a kidnapper.
It was hard to put this book down, I needed to know what will happen next. Even though I liked that the story was told from perspective of females that were around Aiden, I was still left feeling that his story wasn't told completely.
