What an expertly written book! , The Quiet This story is told by many different women who are all connected in one way or another to the predator. This is a story of strength and power. A very suspenseful thriller!

This is a clever, traumatic, descriptive, brilliant work of fiction. It had me gripped from the first to last page. It is psycholoically terrifying.
Aidan Thomas is a respected man within his community. He is married and has a daughter and appears to live a very normal life. He is not however, the man that everyone thinks he is. He has a secret that nobody would believe. He is a kidnapper and serial killer. He has a girl, Rachel, chained up and living in his shed
When Aidan's wife dies he has to move home and moved Rachel into the house. He tells his daughter she is a friend who needs a place to stay.
This is a terrifying read. The characters are all believeable and it makes you look at your neighbours and wonder what secrets they could possible be hiding.

This is top-notch! The story is like a simmer on a gas stove.. a bubbling heat that seems on the verge of boiling over. It's a "messes with your head" type of read, where the long game keeps you hooked. The narrative is not gory or over-the-top hype, it's the kind that will flip on you and make you wonder if you could be next, what kind of victim you would be, question your attractions and who in your circle could be hiding that side of themselves. Enjoy this paced psychological drama as seen through the lens of a past/potential victim. So ordinary in its cast, that it could be headline news tomorrow

I AM COMPLETELY SPEECHLESS!
Okay, no I’m not. But I was for a complete five minutes after closing the last page of this book. When I finally took a breath, I immediately told my reader friends to put this book at the top of their TBR.
It was so breathtakingly intense that I was absolutely spellbound. This is an instant classic in the psychological thriller genre! I am floored that this is the author’s debut novel.
Don’t miss the author’s note at the end of the book. It will really endear you to the author.
This is an easy pre-order choice.
My thanks to @aaknopf and @netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book before its publication date.

This book really deserved more than the allotted 5 stars. It takes a great author to be able to spin an interesting story about a serial killer. Job well done!

This novel follows a victim being held captive by her assailant while he navigates the loss of his wife and a move to a new house.
“Rachel” I found to be a reliable narrator. Even though a victim, she seemed to be unbiased in describing and bringing the character of Aidan, the assailant, off the page.
Of course you root for “Rachel” to escape, but all of those close encounter had me on the edge of my seat wanting to push her out the door myself if I could!
The ending for me was where it fell short. The great escape felt rushed and the aftermath of being found after 5 years wasn’t really touched upon.

A compulsive read about a serial killer and the women in his life. I appreciated all of the different points of view brought in by the author and look forward to future books of hers!

Thank you to NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. I found this book through Abby @crimebythebook. I was so happy with this book recommendation!
Each chapter changes viewpoint between three different women. First, from the POV of “Rachel”, a woman who was kidnapped by a serial killer. Second, from the POV of Emily, a woman who has a crush on him and wants his attention, but does not realize that she is his next victim. And finally, his daughter Cecilia. The multiple POVs worked for me. I just wish I could have heard more from Cecilia’s POV at the end.
This book showed how the serial killer Aidan was perceived as being charming and blended into his small community by having a “normal life”. He was from a picture-perfect family and an upstanding member of society who was hiding very dark secrets.
I felt this book reminded me a bit of Room by Emma Donoghue.
The storyline is character driven, fast paced, and nail biting. I could not put it down! I was invested from beginning to end.
This was author Clémence Michallon‘s debut novel. She is French and English is her second language. Her writing style was great. I’m really looking forward to reading more books by her.

I found this to be a little confusing. What was the reasoning behind some of the actions? The characters all seemed to be distracted, and have no real aims or goals in life. I was unable to connect with any of the characters or feel any empathy. A man that appears to be perfect, a woman held in a shed or locked bedroom, and a bartender that goes gaga over this perfect man - I just couldn't connect.

5 stars! I have found a new must buy all of their books author. To start, I do have to say that I found the second person pov a little distracting at first, but quickly got over that. The tension in this book had my heart racing, I was breathing fast, and I just wanted to rush to find out how it would all end. I thoroughly enjoyed that both the girl in the house and Emily narrated the story, with a few other additions. And thank you so much for not killing the dog (don’t worry, not a spoiler.) The ending was superb! Definitely recommend this one!

Special thanks to Knop, Pantheon, Vintage and Anchor and Netgalley for the ARC of this book.
What a great book to read. This book is a definite recommendation. It has so many layers to it. I could not put it down.
I have never heard of this author, but I will be on the lookout for more books! 5 stars!

This was a great book from start to finish. It’s clever, enthralling, and very much a nail biter. I liked how the focus was primarily on the victims instead of the serial killer and every detail of his crimes and his past. Everything about this book was perfect.
This is Clémence Michallon’s debut thriller but judging by this book you’d think she’s been writing thrillers for years. I can’t wait to see what she’ll write next!

Wow!!! What an absolute thrill ride this book is!!! Loved every twisted minute of it!! Very very highly recommended!!

A woman held captive in a shed is moved when the man who kidnapped her five years ago has to move house. Told from multiple perspectives and timelines, including those of previous victims, the story unfolds in ever-increasing intensity. The Quiet Tenant is a tour de force not to be missed. Fans of psychological suspense will devour it.

QUICK TAKE: It's GILMORE GIRLS, except Luke is a serial killer and Lorelai is an unsuspecting bar manager who becomes his next potential victim. I loved it. It's extremely dark and twisty, similar in tone to books like GIRL A, and I loved how the author also told the story from the point of view of the victims. Very clever, VERY dark, very good.

I absolutely loved The Quiet Tenant. I usually read thrillers as a break from more literary books but this is a literary thriller done SO right. We follow three women- without spoiling- a daughter, a woman trapped, and an admirer. We see these three women’s stories intertwine in a fascinating way- nervously awaiting finding out their fates. I am going to recommend this to thriller fans AND those who aren’t usually fans alike. I think there’s something to like here for everyone.

Wow! Just wow! Suspenseful, stressful, intense, dark - a fabulous thriller. Amazing book in terms of the plot, the characters, the premise, the narration….masterful storytelling!
Thanks to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for the opportunity to read this breathtaking ARC.

Wow, wow, wow! I really liked this. I’m a huge true crime junky and this was right up my alley. It’s about a serial killer and his victims. And his family.
I was hooked from the first page. I thought the writing crazy good. And it had many POV’s and it really worked for me.
I held my breath many times and didn’t want to put it down. Yes, I thought it was that good! I highly recommend.
Thanks Knopf via NetGalley

I finished this book in one day 🙌🏻 The short chapters made this edge of your seat thriller fly by. The use of second person did feel slightly confusing at some points but never took away from the storyline! This was a great start to the New Year!
Thank you NetGalley and Alfred A. Knopf for this advanced copy. Opinions are 100% my own 🙏🏻

In most thrillers, the climax lasts the last 30-60 pages, where you couldn’t stop reading, and your heart is racing as you turn the pages… but honestly, I felt that throughout the beginning, and in the middle, too! A fantastic first thriller from Clémence that grips you from beginning to end, that doesn’t let go, even when it pretends to.
