I really need to stop requesting books in series! I did not know that this was a sequel, therefore I do fee like it hindered my abilities to say too much about the book.
I do like the premise of having the murder club come together to solve all of these cases. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish the book, because I felt like I was missing so many parts of the original story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this e-arc.
This book is for fans of The Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman. It’s a cozy mystery with a wonderful cast of characters who are equally charming, witty and funny. This is the second book in the series, and I enjoyed revisiting Judith and her friends Suzie and Becks as they solve yet another murder.
The night before the wedding of Sir Peter and Jenny, Judith gets a call inviting her to their wedding. Judith isn’t super familiar with Sir Peter so she finds it odd when he invites her and even more odd when he reacts strangely to her joke of hoping no one gets murdered at his wedding.
When a murder does in fact take place, Judith and her friends must investigate what seems like an impossible murder. The list of suspects is pretty obvious and while I had my suspicions the entire time (and ended up being right), the murder plot itself was quite well thought out and definitely not something easily guessed. You may be able to guess who did it, but I doubt you’ll guess how it was done. It reminds me of the game club, Colonel Mustard, in the ballroom with the candlestick. Guess the murderer, and guess how it was orchestrated.
While this definitely isn’t a thriller with lots of plot twists, the characters in this book are what make this book a standout. I truly hope this series continues as I would love to see what Judith solves next. The ending made it seem like there might be another book in this series, so fingers crossed there!

Mrs. Judith Potts receives an invitation from a man named Sir Peter Bailey saying he’s getting married the next day to his fiancée Jenny Page. Sir Peter is the head of one of the most preeminent families in Marlow.
Judith Pott and her friends Becks Starling and Suzie Harris are members of the Marlow Murder Club. Becks is the wife of the vicar of Marlow, and Suzie Harris who volunteers at a radio station also runs a dog-sitting business.
At the party Judith witnesses an altercation between Sir Peter Bailey and his son Tristram. Moments later, Sir Peter Bailey is found dead crushed by a cabinet in his study.
Did someone push the cabinet on Sir Peter and why?
According to Tristram, his father banned him from attending the wedding. Tristram thinks Jenny who was a live-in nurse before she met Sir Peter, is only out for his father’s money and title–Lady Bailey.
When the police are called in to investigate, they discover that the study was locked from the inside. So the police don’t consider the death suspicious. But Judith suspects foul play. So she and her friends set off to find the killer before he or she strikes again.
Following her boss’s return to the office, the investigating officer, DS Tanika Malik learns she’s been assigned to a new case. So she enlists Judith’s help in following the leads.
There’s no shortage of suspects: Sir Peter’s kids, Tristram and Rosanna, Jenny, Sir Peter’s fiancée; Lady Bailey, Sir Peter’s ex-wife, and Chris Shepherd, their family gardener whose grandfather had a blood feud with Sir Peter’s father and so on.
An interesting read. Recommend
Thank you to Robert Thorogood, NetGalley, and Poisoned Pen Press for the arc of this book.

This was such a fun mystery! A locked room mystery was the perfect second entry in this series. I love and adore Judith, Becks, and Suzie. (And let’s not forget Emma, the Doberman also!). I do suggest reading the first one before this one. It will explain a lot about the relationships. Four paws up. This is a winner!
I loved the plot! I thought this was a great read and the characters… they are hilarious trying to solve this case! Judith and the club does what it takes to solve yet another mystery.
The motley crew of the informal Marlow Murder Club reunites for this sequel as fabulous as the first. Semi-recluse Judith Potts, dogwalker Suzie Harris and vicar’s wife Becks Starling are on sight when callow, short-tempered Sir Peter Bailey is crushed by a cabinet on the eve of second marriage. The women — and the supportive Detective Sergeant Tanilka Malik — strongly suspect murder, but how could Sir Peter have been killed in his locked study, with the only key, an ancient, uncopiable model, still his pocket.
Kudos to author Robert Thorogood for a sequel as riveting as his debut, The Marlow Murder Club! Like the debut, the sequel contains a chilling denouement I never saw coming. Forgive the cliché, but I couldn’t put it down and I read it in a day. No greater recommendation that that! And for those whom missed the first book (please remedy that as soon as you can), Death Comes to Marlow stands up quite well on its own.
In the interest of full disclosure, I received this book from NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press in exchange for an honest review.
“I think we should accept the case. Even though our client is dead”
I loved this mystery !!!! A great mystery book where three women, members of a murder club, investigates on the murder of a man before his wedding day. I enjoyed it very much !!!
This was exactly the story I needed !! So many Poirot vibes and the ending, when there is a resolution of the entire plot … loved every second of it !!! There’s something just so absolutely amazing about the details in with a murder crime is described in this book. I loved it !!!
It was fun and entertaining and exactly the mystery I wanted !!
This is technically the second book in a series but you can easily read this one without having read the first. Though I would highly recommend reading that one too, considering how great these women are in their investigations !!!
I’m so glad I had the chance to read this book and I cannot wait for it to be out !!
“However … everyone’s got secrets. Things they wouldn’t want the wider world to know”
I read The Marlow Murder Club a few months ago, and really enjoyed it, so I was very excited to be approved for a copy of this to review.
I enjoyed this just as much. I warmed to Judith during the first book, so I was really happy to be reading about her again, and I appreciated the return of some other characters that I enjoyed in the first book too.
I really appreciate the friendship between the main characters, and find myself able to relate to them in different ways. There were several moments in the book that had me chuckling, and it was a pleasant, light-hearted cosy mystery read. I think that anyone who enjoyed The Marlow Murder Club would enjoy this too. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.
Welcoming us back to the town in Marlow, opening with a wedding. Each member of the trio has used their newfound success capturing multiple murders in different ways: a murder radio show, a crossword maven, and a secret yet to be revealed. I found this book a fun, cozy mystery full of wit and playful banter.
Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced digital copy.
Thanks once again to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review "Death Comes To Marlow", the follow up to the wonderfully quirky "The Marlow Murder Club".
Back once again are Judith Potts, Becks and Suzie, along with Detective Sergeant Tanika.
Shortly after her regular nude swim in the Thames (yes, that's right, an elderly lady swims nude in her little portion of the river Thames) during which she tangles with a mother swan, Judith Potts receives a phone call from Sir Peter Bailey, inviting her to a party that afternoon, the day before his impending wedding; and Sir Peter is afraid that someone is going to kill him.
Intrigued, needless to say, Judith tries to contact her friends Suzie and Becks, but only manages to get Suzie on the line and invites her to join in the festivities.
And of course, Sir Peter ends up dead which sets in motion one of the most convoluted mysteries. But Judith, Suzie and Becks are on the case! Along with Tanika, although she's forced to take somewhat of a back seat when her previously ill boss returns. And that boss doesn't believe that it's murder.
So, it's up to our Marlow Murder Club once again to discover all of the clues, follow all the red herrings, and get to the truth of the matter.
Another great cozy mystery from the author of the Death In The Caribbean series.
Love this series and feel so honoured to have been given the opportunity to read this story early.
As always, great characters, a plot that shines and the usually antics of the trio at the heart of this story keep you laughing throughout. Loved it!
The perfect cozy crime to curl up with on the couch on a cold and rainy day.
I have loved these ladies from the beginning (especially Becks, our intrepid vicar's wife with hidden depths), and it was such a delight to reunite with them for their next big case. Their odd friendship is so wonderful, and I love seeing how their lives developed.
This time, an old rich member of Marlow society calls Judith saying he fears for his life and is indeed found dead the day before his wedding. Crushed by a cabinet. Locked in his study. While all the obvious suspects were outside...
Murder seems impossible, but the ladies are determined to find the truth.
This was such a fast, fun read! I flew through it in a few days and absolutely loved it. My only small complaint is that the murder felt a bit... elaborate to me when it was revealed how the killer went about things.
Perfect for fans of Richard Osman.
I loved this book, just as much as the first the Marlow mystery. Judith does it again and kept me turning the pages-I read it in a day and loved every minute.
Thank you to Net Galley for the advanced copy.
This was a great locked room mystery with a very clever solution. The three women amateur detectives are witty and delightful and the English small town setting is quite enjoyable. I very much enjoyed the first book in this series and highly recommend both it and, now, the sequel to it
I was thrilled to get the opportunity to read an advance copy of the latest Marlow Mystery Club book thanks to the publisher and NetGalley. I loved the first book, and this one was equally great. I was so glad to be on vacation and have the time to fly through the book. I was happy to be reunited with the quirky characters, I enjoyed the crossword clues, and I was fooled by all the red herrings. I found it a very clever mystery, and I highly recommend it. I think readers who haven’t read the first book could still enjoy this one, but I think mystery lovers would be happy to read both. I can’t wait to read more!
I read 'The Marlow Murder Club' last year and loved it so I knew I had to read the sequel and it did not disappoint! I actually think I enjoyed this one even more...
Judith Potts and her friends are back to solve another murder - this time it's a locked room mystery which the police don't treat as suspicious. Will the Marlow Murder Club gang be able to find the killer before they strike again?
This book is funny and filled with amazing characters that are interesting and full of life. I loved the group dynamics and the quirks that each character had. The story is really fast paced and addictive! I was constantly theorising about what happened and trying to work out who did it. I also loved that it was a locked room mystery - it felt very Agatha Christie. The ending was really great and I loved the way Judith finally revealed everything to the character and also to us.
I absolutely loved this book from start to finish and I can't wait to (hopefully) see more books in this series!
Things have been quiet lately for Becks, Judith and Suze, so they’re excited to be invited to a party at Sir Peter’s. During the party, there is a loud, crashing noise and the trio rushes to the sound. Sir Peter has been crushed to death in his locked study. The police declare it an accident and move on, but the Marlow Murder Club isn’t quite so sure and believe sir Peter was murdered…and set out to prove it.
What I love most about locked room mysteries are the possibilities and the different red herrings. So many options, but only time will soft fact from fiction. The characters are lovable and quirky characters that make the mystery funny at times. This is only the second book in the series, so get in on it while it’s still just starting out…you’re gonna love it!
Likable characters who come alive on the pages make the story in this book. They are believable and entertaining. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. This talented author has written a cannot put down whodunit…secrets…red herrings… murder and mayhem…a book club with members who solve mysteries…enjoy this novel…
