A fast paced race for survival finds mountain expert Jayla Holt depending on a man who let her down in the past, when an avalanche turns out not to be a result of natural causes.
There is a lot going on in this engaging read, with strong main characters and a plot that kept me on my toes. I especially liked the dog, Hercules, who has a few tricks of his own, up his sleeve. I liked the compelling backstories, as well as growing level of trust between Jayla and Bryson.
A satisfying adventure from beginning to end, with great tension and plenty of action! Definitely worth picking up!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Jayla Hoyt is a mountain survival expert who has a search and rescue K-9. When an avalanche occurs leading to her friend going missing possibly dead she does everything she can to find out who is behind the Avalanche that was no accident. She works with Alaskan park ranger Bryson Clarke to figure out who is behind this and try to stay to stay alive since clearly someone doesn't want them further into these explosion/avalanches.
I really enjoyed this book there was so much going on. I love getting to know these characters and seeing how they work together to solve what was going on. Clearly someone didn't want them to look into it so there was a few attempts at their lives or at least to other people that they care about. I love seeing how the more dire the danger scenes come out as closer as they was getting to figuring out who was to find this and why. I love that while there was a bit of romance this book remain clean. This was over all a really good book, I really enjoyed it if you like mystery suspense kind of novels you'll really enjoy this one.

I give Alaskan Avalanche Escape and Netgalley five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
After surviving a sudden avalanche, mountain survival expert Jayla Hoyt and her search-and-rescue K-9 discover that it was no accident—someone deliberately triggered the mountain explosion. To uncover the culprit, she’ll have to partner with Alaska park ranger Bryson Clarke, a man she doesn’t trust. But when the investigators become targets, can they capture the criminal mastermind…before they’re buried alive?
This book kept me guessing the entire time. Jayla and Bryson are trying to hunt the person or people who are responsible for a series of avalanches that have occurred. The closer they get to discovering who is behind it, the more their lives are in danger.
I recommend this book to all who enjoy a good mystery.
I received this book from Love Inspired Suspense via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith. and romance all wrapped up in this suspenseful novel. Jayla Hoyt and her K-9, must work together with Alaska park ranger Bryson Clarke, even though they have a past that they must work through. Both must learn to trust each other to survive all the mysterious obstacles.. Both Jayla and Bryson have a lot to learn about each other, their faith and their families.
Such an amazing book with a surprise ending. It held me captivated from the first page with so many twists and turns. I have just started reading Harlequins K-9 search and rescue books and enjoy them. I am excited to look for more books in the series and recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Harlequin Romance Love Inspired and was released February 21, 2023. All opinions and words are my own.
I know when I read a Darlene L. Turner story I am in for an action packed story where nobody is safe from peril, I'll have a hard time figuring out who the villain is, and there will be a good faith thread throughout. Alaskan Avalanche Escape is no different.
The action in this story starts on page one and really never lets up until the mystery is solved. And even though I accused most everyone of being the villain, I was totally wrong and totally surprised at the end. While I enjoyed the storyline, the writing style, and the very unexpected ending, I did not really care for Jayla and the way she treated Bryson. This really took me out of the story. While the reason for her behavior was explained, I felt like it was just too weak of a reason, especially in light of her past. These things made it hard to believe in their HEA.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. The faith thread is medium.
Alaskan Avalanche Escape by Darlene Turner was so exciting! I read a lot of books, but it’s been a while since I’ve read a Love Inspired Suspense book. This book helped me remember all the reasons I love reading them. Though Alaskan Avalanche Escape is part of the K-9 Search and Rescue Series, each book is written by a different author, and they don’t need to be read in order. These books have the tagline, “Courage, Danger, Faith.” Faith sets them apart. You know when you read a Love Inspired Suspense book, it will be clean and contain elements of faith like trusting God’s leading and protection.
The author describes this Alaskan/Canadian setting with vivid detail. The book takes place close to the Canadian border, so when suspicious avalanches start happening, the two K-9 rescue teams must coordinate. They’re suspicious in that they are happening in conditions they shouldn’t be happening in. I’ve never even been skiing, so my knowledge of avalanches is limited to what I’ve seen in disaster movies! The author does a good job explaining why some members of the team are concerned when the weather conditions don’t warrant their occurrence.
The characters are very well-written, so I quickly became invested in their lives. Jayla and Bryson have had issues in their pasts which make them very cautious and suspicious of one another. However, as they work together, they grow closer and begin to work through their trust and grief issues.
As I said, the book is so exciting! I read it very quickly because I couldn’t put it down! It is filled with suspenseful situations and will keep you guessing about what is really going on.
I highly recommend it to all of you who love clean romances with suspense and in which faith plays a role in the characters lives.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
This was a riveting suspense story that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end! I felt like I was there in person along side Jayla, Hercules, and Bryson on the Alaskan mountains.
This story had great imagery and location setting and I even learned some things about avalanches and surviving in the cold.
Tragic things have happened to both Jayla and Bryson that have them questioning their faith in God and even in others around them which makes them relatable characters.
Lots of suspense, drama, and some clean romance. I truly cannot say enough great things about this book! Highly recommend but be warned, once you start reading it you won’t want to stop!
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
Alaskan Avalanche Escape by Darlene L. Turner dials up the action to an explosive level. Jayla Hoyt and her search and rescue golden retriever Hercules search for survivors after an avalanche. Bryson Clarke finds evidence that someone caused the avalanches, and he and Jayla investigate. But their history makes them unlikely partners to stop a crime. She doesn’t trust Bryson, but when the enemy targets Jayla and Hercules, they are forced to work together as the threats escalate.
I love this complex story. There’s plenty of danger, but also readers get to see how both Jayla and Bryson have to overcome past hurts that plague them both. I love the balance of the action and the romance. Also, the scenery adds to the suspense of the story, which is set on the border between Alaska and Canada. Of course, S&R dog Herc steals the show!
Definitely pick up your copy of Alaskan Avalanche Escape when it is available on February 21st.
I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This book hooks you on the first page and doesn't let go. It's full of action, drama and suspense; and will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. I loved it and highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Christian romantic suspense.
I received a complimentary copy from HARLEQUIN - Romance (U.S. & Canada), Love Inspired Suspense and Darlene L. Turner via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Very well written action and adventure right from the start. The book caught my attention on the very first page. This has nonstop action the whole way through.
I really enjoyed seeing the close and respectful relationship the trainer and her dog had. You could tell they would always be there for each other. I enjoyed the setting of the book mostly taking place in the snow. The descriptions of the avalanches and how they start is pretty neat.
Very enjoyable inspirational suspense.
There are many sabotages on the mountains, the team narrowly escapes. Who is doing it and why?
I was pretty surprised to see who the master mind of the whole plan was.
Exciting romantic inspirational fiction that will keep you on your toes.

Jayla, a mountain survival expert and Park Ranger Bryson find themselves in the uncomfortable position of working together to find out who is intentionally starting avalanches. They have worked together before, and it resulted with a tragic ending. With Jayla's search dog Hercules at their side, they pull together, but as things escalate further lives are endangered.
This Christian based story mixed with romance, mystery, and suspense appeals to me. Despite this, I didn't feel like I could relate to Jayla or Bryson without more character development. Thanks to Harlequin and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.
This book is a thrill ride from beginning to end with a setting and characters that will keep your heart pumping. And did I mention that there is an heroic dog named Herc? He sniffs out victims of avalanches and belongs to survival expert Jayla Hoyt. Jayla is in danger from page one and is protected not only by Herc but also by a man whom she considers a coward, Bryson Clarke. The backstory behind these two characters is worth the read all by itself, but this book includes so much more. There are nefarious characters plotting death and destruction and family drama that unfolds as the plot moves along at a rapid pace. This is a must-read clean romantic suspense with faith elements that were heartwarming and realistic. With themes of forgiveness and redemption, this book hit all of the right spots for me.

Jayla has experienced many deaths and tragedies around her, and she is now a trained search and rescue operative. Her past has taught her to keep her heart closed off, except to God and her K-9 partner, Hercules.
Bryson has seen his share of death as well, and a prior incident caused Jayla to mistrust Bryson. But when their work on the Alaska-Yukon border forces them to have to cooperate, they reach an understanding in order to work together.
I thought this was a well-written book. I enjoyed learning about the SAR team and how they operate. That said, I did pretty much guess who "the bad guy" was early on, which was confirmed at the end. The end ties up all the loose ends into a neat package. I'd read more books by this author.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
In this story, we find Jayla and her search dog Hercules encountering an avalanche while out on a mission. She cannot figure out what cause the avalanche, but finds a spent blasting cap in the area, Bryson is an ex-cop who has worked with Jayla at another time. That time, his poor decision caused her friend to become a cripple, so he is determined to prove he is a good team member who makes good, sold decision. He also figures the blasting cap caused the avalanche, meaning it was deliberately planned. In the avalanche, Jayla loses her boss and dear friend Ethan, who fell into a crevasse opened by the avalanche. Jayla and Bryson have a history, and not a good one. She does not trust him because, in another time and place, he failed to act quickly when a grizzly attacked her friend, leaving the friend crippled. This time, Bryson is determined to prove to Jayla he is not a bad guy or bad team member. The story progresses as the two try to figure out what is going on. Meanwhile, avalanches and other nefarious incidents keep occurring, so someone or something has to be behind it. The duo must figure this out before too many other people are hurt of die. Can they succeed?
This was an interesting book, filled with lots of action and suspense. However, there was not a lot of good character development and the chemistry between Jayla and Bryson just was not there. I almost think there was too much action, with all the avalanches and other incidents happening, resulting in the pair and team members rushing from one incident to another. There was not much time for anything else. The author did try somewhat to develop characters as well as the chemistry between Jayla and Bryson, but it never did happen. Hercules is the big hero in the story, which I likes, as I enjoy reading about dogs who are loyal and successful in their jobs. At least the author brought this out. I have not read any other stories in the series, and, after this one, I am not sure I will. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.
Alaskan Avalanche Escape is a well written romantic suspense. The book has a real edge of your seat plot and well developed characters. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance book. This is my unbiased review.

Jayla Hoyt is a Mountain Survival Expert with the US/Canadian Cross Border Task Force. She works with her trainees to learn what to do if they are climbing a mountain or skiing down one when an avalanche begins to rumble. It can kill you or you can learn to roll properly and survive until help arrives( which could be a very long time.) She works with troopers and rangers to help them survive and/or recover those who are trapped by the snow explosion. Recently her team has been trying to locate the reason for more avalanches on local mountains. Deaths are mounting. Even with the help of Search and Seizure Rescue they cannot seem to find lost hikers or skiers. Turner’s latest K-9 Search and Rescue mystery deals with this plight. Jayla is certain that someone is causing the snow and ice to slide. She and her dog, Hercules work at the scene to rescue lost and injured patrons of the park. The Alaskan/Yukon Territory is a hazardous place in the winter. It is easy to get lost or have accidents while skiing or snowshoeing. Her novel gives the reader a glimpse at the gorgeous National Parks yet tells of the dangers that are all around the beautiful land.
Alaska Avalanche Escape will be published by Love Inspired Suspense on February 21, 2023. I appreciate their allowing me to read and review Darlene L Turner’s latest novel via NetGalley. It is an excellent journey for those who like Alaska K-9 novels. Her suspense is well written. It is a Christian based story yet very capable of keeping the reader on edge and provides interesting suspense/love fiction. Do enjoy this one.
Alaskan Avalanche Escape by Darlene Turner is a Christian romantic suspense. The book was non stop action with avalanches, shootings, kidnappings, etc.
Personally I think the action was a little overdone to where it was just too unrealistic. My other issue is I just could not like Jayla. She was so critical of Bryson but he made a mistake and at the same time she was dealing with the aftermath of making her own mistakes and the consequences. I would have preferred she was a little bit nicer.
Hercules was the star of the book. The two men that lived out in the woods with their dogs were great secondary characters.
If this is your first book by Darlene don’t judge all her books from this one.
mostly just violence, nothing disturbing. Avalanches, shootings, near drownings, etc
triggers - suicide mentioned not a main focus

Jayla Hoyt is part of the US/Canadian Cross Border Mountain task force. The group is made of former military, former law enforcement, park rangers, constables and Search and rescue. They also have an group of SAR dogs. Ethan Ingersoll was the lead in this group and he and Jayla had bonded after they almost died in an avalanche almost 2 years ago.
While out on their current patrol an avalanche occurs, Ethan pushes one of the team members out of the way but was unable to get himself to safety. Jayla saw him go over the side of a crevasse. She could not believe it, not her friend, another person she cares about taken too soon. She had Hercules, her SAR dog, immediately start searching for the rest of the team,
once he found them, and then helped dig them out, that was when Jayla took a moment and let some tears fall.
Alaska Park Ranger, Bryson Clark knew by the look on Jayla's face that she was not happy to see him, the last time they saw one another it did not go well. That was six months ago and he still beat himself up over it. But that was then and he had grown as a person and a park ranger. Moments later Bryson's team approached. They immediately began checking out Jayla's team for any injuries. Then lead them to their station which was closer than Jayla's station.
Bryson and Jayla hung back to look around the area because Hercules had found an blasting cap from dynamite. This indicates this avalanche was was intentionally set off. As Jayla & Bryson compare notes they start to see a pattern of the recent avalanches, too many in too short of a period of time. There must be a reason, a reason why someone would deliberately create avalanches, deliberately put anyone on the mountain in harms way.
While the investigation continues into the avalanches, Jayla finds the walls around her heart begin coming down, she sees Bryson in a different light. And Bryson starts to re-think his decision about staying single, not all women are like his ex, right?
Thank you Darlene Turner for creating another story that has it all! Mystery and suspense a twist I did not see coming. And Hercules!
