This book is basically the perfect breakdown dictionary and road map for queen information. I learned so much from reading this book. The language was easy to understand and comprehend and the vibrant colors and fun illustrations made it even easier to understand 10/10
Highly informative and absolutely adorable.
Victoria Barron has done a fantastic job creating an entry level exploration for the modern day to cover a wide variety of queer terms, spectrums and flags within this Illustrated Introduction. It is very comprehensive, and covers some flags and terms I had not previously encountered.
The book is complete with an adorable snake mascot, some fun interactive puzzles, and some delightful colouring pages (I wish I had a printed copy of the book because they look so fun!)
It's also a quick read, but would be so handy as a quick reference guide to come back to.
Thanks Victoria, really, really well done!
A great overview of the LGBTQ+ world, focusing largely on terms but also answering questions. I really enjoyed how this was presented, and I feel like I learned new things from this! It also was beautifully colorful and had fun activities within it too.
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Perfectly Queer
Perfectly queer is a brilliant introduction to the LGBTQIA+ community.
There are a bewildering, often evolving array of terms, labels and umbrellas within our communities, and quite right too. This book is a guide to as many of the facets of our identities as the author was able to pull together, with each term being described in a plain, easy to parse, way.
This is a perfect jumping off point for anyone who is looking to find a connection based on who they are inside both in terms of their expressed gender and sexuality. And that is what the instinct to label oneself is at the heart of everything - the urge to find others exactly like us to love, befriend and ally with - to be stronger, healthier and happier.
I wish I had both a resource like this to start me on my journey back in the mists of time - and the Internet too (yes I’m pre Internet old) - perhaps the queer label I have lived under my whole life wouldn’t have been so reductive and perhaps I would have connected more with people at a younger age. There will always be those who bemoan ‘all the alphabet letters and too many flags’ and to that I say - how sad.
