The story was action-packed. Romance was on the slow-burn side, which I enjoyed.
Samantha was frustrating at times, but I had a better understanding of her as a character because of the previous series. If I had read this story as a stand-alone without prior knowledge, I would've been annoyed. I'm hoping for more romantic development between Samantha and Cadean in the next book. I'll be reading the rest of the "Wolf God" series.
I received an ARC and chose to give my honest opinion - thanks NetGalley!!
Wolf God was as interesting as the synopsis suggests - which is a lot! We meet Samantha and the Dark God (Cadean) right away. Though the beginning was a bit convoluted, it slowed down and allowed me to get to know Samantha and her motivation.
As a book, it was entertaining and fun. It was a bit harder as a romance because 90% of it could be solved by having a normal and adult conversation - miscommunication is quite used and overused.
Overall, I can't wait for the next one - this one ends in a somewhat cliffhanger!
I can’t wait to find out what happens next! At the beginning, I was a little confused and wanted more details as to why the werewolves were involved, why they had to trap the Wolf God and why the Moon goddess was involved. That being said, I really enjoyed the world that was built and the characters that were involved. The Wolf God’s inner circle was fiercely loyal and I would have liked a little backstory, especially from his sorcerer. I loved Caedan and Samantha. Caedan has done horrible things during a war that has lasted hundreds of years and didn’t know if he could be redeemed even though he now wants to try. Samantha is fierce, to a fault sometimes, in her actions and her feelings. Because of that she doesn’t consider all the implications of her actions. I think it will haunt her later. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and will definitely read the next installment.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC I received in return for my honest opinion.
Loved this book! It had an interesting new take on the shifter genre with the characters and storyline. I liked that it mentioned a lot of supernatural species working together toward a common goal. The Wolf God is a shifter dream! Loved his character and watching him sort through his emotional turmoil was one of the best parts of this book. I'm excited to read the second book!
I don’t even have words to describe how much I enjoyed this book! This book was written so well and always kept me excited! I stayed up till 1am trying to finish this book because it was that interesting! I’m obsessed with tension between Sam and Cade and I love how both of mcs are both strong and fierce! I truly enjoyed getting to read how Cadean changed throughout the story! I’m so excited for the next book!!
Just what I want in a book, addictive reading, fast paced, morally grey characters, I do think Samantha’s character needs a little work, but other than that I loved it.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
“𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐞, 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐥𝐟”
Being completely honest, Cadean was the man/god/shapeshifter of my dreams. He also carried the book, in my opinion.
So, we have the Wolf God who escapes his imprisonment, which prompts Samantha and two friends from her pack to go rebuild the prison to keep the dangerous man away from society. And she turns out to be the only person who has ever injured the Wolf God to such a dangerous degree. And now he believes she’s the only one who can reverse the curse.
Cadean was amazing. He’s so strong, so tough. Despite being injured so severely and dealing with excruciating pain, he still never hesitates to help and save his people and Samantha, multiple times.
He has a brutal way of protecting his lands, but in my opinion it’s completely justified because he’s barely ever doing the attacks. Most of the time, he’s just defending his lands.
Sam…i didn’t like her that much, which i’m quite sorry about. She started off SO good, she was tough and feisty. She had a rough upbringing, but she was doing so good for herself and wouldn’t let people step over her. She put up a mighty fight against being kidnapped and continued to be strategic and courageous all throughout the book.
The problem tho- she was quite annoying and pretty wishy washy. She could see why the Wolf God had to resort to violence. She has been saved by him multiple times throughout the book and not once had she been thankful. Every time he protected her, she threw a fit. She kept mentioning he’s a good person, he has love for his people and how his friends love him and are beside him at all times. But then 2 paragraphs later she was saying he’s a murderer, the worst person ever and she has to find a way to stop him.
She’s inconsistent and it got annoying at some point. Everyone around her was trying to explain to her why he’s not what he seems and she even saw him protecting his lands. Every time, for a second, you’d think she would finally register it and believe them, yet she always remains stuck to her initial believes that he’s a monster.
The way it’s written is great- lots of action, the descriptions are not overwhelming and they are easy to understand. Cadean made the book for me, he was truly amazing. Sam started off great, but then idk what happened. I had a lot of fun with this book, despite how little i liked Samantha.
If i could rate them separately, i’d give Sam 3 stars, and then everything else about the book (Cadean, the plot, the writing) 5 stars.
This is a slow burn (at around the 60% mark is when something romantic happened), enemies to lovers, possible love triangle (very slight), obviously werewolves.
Thank you so so much Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for providing me with this ARC. It’s my first ARC and i’m going to forever be thankful for it.
I have posted the review on Goodreads, and will post on Instagram (@bookish.juli) in the next few days.
Okay, so this book was really good. Could've been better. I only less enjoyed it mostly because of Samantha. She was annoying AF. No matter how much Cadean or others did for her, it was never enough for her. Ugh. I hope she will learn her lesson soon with Cadean's brother. And honestly, I just wanted Cadean to find someone else at one point. It would've been much more interesting to see someone accepting both the good and bad sides of him. My opinions maybe biased.
Love that cover and asked for the book based on that and the title. My first by this author but the story was intriguing. I didn’t know going in that this was multiple books and not a stand alone. I liked the story but felt like it could have had a richer story line with more fleshing out. The book basically follows two characters and doesn’t portray the Fae side at all. If the Fae side of the story had been more evident I think I would have given this story five stars!
I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left this opinion!
She is just a normal werewolf - and now she is forst spirited away by the Fay then captured by the Wolf God and now participating in war between these both fractions against her will. In "Wolf God" Veronica Douglas creates an exciting fantasy world full of mystical creatures that have all too human emotions. Torn between hatred and developing affection, Samantha must do anything to survive in this otherworldly power structure.
I love this book

I love a morally grey character and this book delivered it. Very well written, couldn't put it down,an exciting fun read,I love paranormal romances for books like this
The story is ok, wasn’t bad wasn’t great either. The story itself gets a 3, the FMC is a 1 star. So I opted for something in the middle, 2 stars. . I had a real problem with the FMC. The FMC is an idiot and it seems strange that she would blindly follow beings and their word and never really gets any facts. I understand her anger, I don’t understand how she can judge based on no facts or full information whatsoever. She never asks outright about why things were done. For example why the moon goddess bound the wolf god. A god of her kind, shifters. She’s quick to make bargains with a race notoriously known to be tricksters. She seems real stupid about it all too. And her “loremaster” should have warned her better. She gets mad about an assassin attempt who loses their head. You know what you dumb bitch they could have killed you. She’s fighting something she doesn’t understand and doesn’t have all the facts for. If I could have DNF this I would have, but this is for an arc requesting reviews on a site that frown upon too many DNF.
However what I did really like, was the concept of the dreamlands, enemies to lovers, forced proximity (one horse or griffstrider in this case), super hot god. I also really enjoy a mouthy FMC who can also back her shit up (even though I did find her annoying with her blind trust and judgement) And I very much want a griffstrider. As a horse girl this creature interests me greatly.
All in all it’s an average story that I probably won’t continue because I really do not like the FMC and her idiocy. She’s based her opinions on no facts and literally has no actual idea of what’s going on.
"Some monsters just need to be tamed."
I read it in two days, which is a near miracle for me! After finishing I saw that there is a preceding series about the FMC , but I don't feel like I missed anything by not reading it first. This was a wild ride all by itself!
The tension between the feisty shifter FMC and the brooding Dark God was electric. The tension is as important as the spice for me!
Samantha is a werewolf, a fierce protector of friends and family. When she is taken by the Dark Wolf God, she struggles between loathing and desire for the beautiful god who weeks earlier nearly ended her life. The Dark God needs Samantha to lift the curse that afflicts his realm, and him, but didn't account for how distracting she could become.
My favourite tropes made an appearance - enemies to lovers, touch her you die, slow burn, found family, magic, fated mates, a brother thrown into the mix - though I'm not too keen on TOO possessive.
I really enjoyed the characters, the magic and world building, and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.
Will definitely be reading more from these authors.
Reviewing after being accepted to read on #NetGalley . Thank you!
The Wolf God Ruthless Gods: Wolf God, Book 1
3 Stars
The Wolf God is a very good book. The book starts great; the pace is good. It's well written with great world-building, and interesting side characters. However, I found Caden and Samantha's story very frustrating, and the ending made me dislike the entire book and series.
There were two major factors why I didn't enjoy The Wolf God. Our main character, Samantha, is too stupid to live, which I don't find a redeemable quality. Lastly, I've invested a large amount of time in this book. There's not a HEA/HFN moment (happy for now). If anything, it is a cliffhanger, money grab moment that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Overall, this book had the potential to be great, but wasn't. Thank you, NetGalley and Magic Side Press, for an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Quick start. Non stop action. POV was good as well but I leaned more to finding the chapters where C was narrating they went quicker and I enjoyed them. S was a good character too and found myself really getting into her POV too. Sexual tension was right where it needed to be and didnt lose the plot. This is my first time reading this author, but I am already searching out other books. Her characters have great dynamics and the flow in which she can have them interact is great as well.
Stars: 3.5
Okay, so I am hooked and I really enjoyed the premise of the book.
I do think things got a little lost in the middle, but id does not mean I did mot enjoy this book.
I found myself enjoying Cadean's pov more than Samantha's, it was a bit tiresome the way she kept telling herself that he was a monster and she hated him. And I kept getting more and more frustrated with him.
Don't get me wrong, I did not want a instant love, but some of her reasoning was just...idk.
I had a bit of a hard time getting past the fact that he almost killed her and that he killed a bunch of innocents.
That said, I did enjoy the character development and how they seemed to grow from being in each others presence. I am going to read the next book and see where the story goes!
I could not put this book down and I will be reading the
I ended up DNF'ing this one around 30%.
Good news, is it wasn't any fault of the book or the authors. Purely because my head is not in it, and I can't grip hold of enough to find it enjoyable.
I'm going to give the first series a go, then come back to this one and see if it makes it any more enjoyable.
Cadean was a great character, reading him was what was keeping me going. I do find it hard to read Samantha, she came off a little annoying.
I'll come back a review again if I manage to make it through the read. My star rating doesn't reflect a review, it is purely there because it needs to be right now. I however do not want to give a book an extremely low rating when it is my fault I won't be continuing.
Thank you for letting me give the read a go, hopefully I'll be back.
Rating: 3 / 5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Veronica Douglas for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
while I did really enjoy the writing of this book, I just had a hard time liking Samantha and being interested in the story to keep reading. I felt uninterested at times overall well done I just couldn’t connect to the characters as well.
I have never read anything by this author before and I wasn't familiar with any of the series that link to this book, however that didn't stop me easily being able to follow the story and become engrossed in the world.
It seems like a small piece of a much larger story but as a standalone it's interesting, although I do feel I need to start from the beginning of the authors series and read everything to fully understand some characters and relationships.
It's an interesting concept, I enjoyed the way the worlds were described, I've never been a huge fan of Werewolves but I found this book enjoyable from that POV.
While the concept was interesting, the storyline between the male and female protagonists was a familiar one that I feel gets re-used in a lot of fantasy books, this female character felt slightly different in that she wasn't 'always' the one needed rescuing and seemed to be able to stand her ground against enemies.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book and leave an honest review.
So, this book immediately drew my attention through the cover and the description - definitely my kind of book! I was worried that it would be too smutty for me (I recently had a poor experience with a book that I was expecting to have a plot...it did not), but it was a pretty good story!
This focuses on Samantha and Cadean, the Wolf God. It has a very quick start, and I didn't realize that this book follows a different series. I read this book without reading the series before, but now I wonder some of the information that I felt was missing would have been filled in if I had read those books.
I really liked the premise of the story and most of the characters (though I wish we would have gotten more information about some of them, since they seemed pretty important). Sadly, I was not as big of fan of Samantha. I really wanted to like her as she seemed like a strong female lead, but instead I found her annoying. At first, I understood her resentment and hate of the Wolf god, but as she learned more about him, I thought she would become more understanding, even if she was still resentful. She became traumatized when she saw a village that had been taken over by his enemies burnt down and killed the enemy soldiers (he let the villagers flee and she knew this) and blamed him for being overly cruel. His people are at war... I usually enjoy an enemies to lovers trope, but she was driving me nuts with this. I probably sound like I hate her character, but I don't! She's badass in other ways. This was just the main part that kept it from being a truly good story to me!
I really enjoyed the male lead. I could understand the different facets of his personality. I also liked his main generals/advisors/friends (these are the characters I wish I had more information about!). There is definitely something about the Moon goddess that we don't know - I am very suspicious of her. And the Wolf god's brother is also very shady, and I look forward to finding out his motivations!
So, overall, I did enjoy the story and I look forward to reading the next one. I mainly just hope the main character improves. Lol.
