Ellie Bates is terrified that her parents will discover that she kissed Camden Lane and can’t stop thinking about him. This shouldn’t be a big issue, but he now lives in her complex, which she managers for her parents. They have threatened to fire her if she breaks any more rules. Camden Lane can’t get Ellie out of his head. The more time they spend together, the harder it is for him to leave but he realises that Ellie has to work through the issues she has with her parents.
This was such a sweet romance but with the hint of a forbidden nature, it definitely kept me wondering, how it would work out. There is plenty of family drama, but I loved the support of Ellie’s two brothers. Their regular get-togethers and how they work together to deflect the parents’ ire, was very witty.
This is a series that I am looking forward to following.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I read this book as an ARC and are giving my honest review. Thank you to the publisher and author for the opportunity.
I enjoyed this read. I was drawn to it with the cute cartoon drawn covered and just screamed fall romance- and it delivered. Both characters were relatable. Ellie having controlling parents that never seemed to give her the approval that she sought after and we had the opportunity to ‘watch’ her be able to grow to defend herself. With Cam, he was on a journey to find himself and what he really wanted to do with his life- I think everyone can relate to that. Overall, this forbidden romance was a fun read. I’d recommend it to my friends and fellow readers.
Recommended for romance readers looking for books with fall vibes, forbidden love trope, and swoony love interest!
I adore this sweet love story - the short chapters, good pacing and beautiful writing style makes this book so hard to put down!
I love the characters, they’re well developed – both main and secondary ones like Ellie’s brothers, the tenants, Cam’s best friend and sister.
I adore Cam’s character (our MMC). He is a sweet and caring person towards his loved ones. I love his passion in photography.
While Ellie (Our FMC) has a hard time accepting her feelings because of the rules from the company she was working for and the pressure from her parents. But I really like how she grows throughout the story and finally realize her priorities. Although I wish the things with her parents was resolved in a better way.
I love how Ellie and Cam’s relationship develop as the story progress, sure it was a bit frustrating at the beginning and it gets slightly repetitive.
But, their sweet moments together are my favorites. I can’t stop smiling and can't help but root for their happy endings!
Overall, this is an adorable and sweet romance read, perfect to be read during fall season. It’s light, enjoyable and entertaining as well.
I’m really looking forward for the next book in this series!
I received this review copy for free through Netgalley, I am leaving this review voluntarily. Huge thank you to the Wink Road Press and the author.
3.5*
This is such a cozy read, and once I picked it up I could not put it down!
As someone who is in their late 20s, I have never and probably will never not look for my parents approval ( well my mom). A lot of that is cultural, but also its how its always been. Its so nice to see a character deal with the same issues of doing something for yourself versus doing something for your parents.
I do wish ellie would have been more open with her friends, that and I wish she there was more resolution with her parents. Because the way they treated her??? I get fighting for approval all the time, but god they were so unlikable and just mean.
the saving grace of this book was cam! WHAT A MAN!!! He is just so sweet, and how much he loves ellie really showed through his actions and all the things he remembered about her ( the honey in the tea??) A WHOLE MAN
Tropes:
forced proximity
forbidden romance
Also warning this is a slow burn (I dont like it, but lately I have??? or maybe I am actually reading GOOD slow burn??)
This book was so cute! I was swooning from the first chapter. All the conflicts in the book were very real, and similar things I’ve Walt with IRL. great sophomore novel my Madison!
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review
This book was such a pleasant surprise. Not only did the characters feel real and dynamic, but they were so honest with their feelings on page. I have a hard time picturing things I read, but it was so easy when reading this book. I love when he falls first, and that happened here. Also, have to shout out how beautiful the cover is. This book is perfect for fall!
ASTOUNDING
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
I was completely hooked up to this book from the first line. The first chapter starts in a music concert and with a breathtaking kiss. I really don't know what to ask more in a romance book.
CAMDEN - The Male Character is someone for whom I would get on my knees. Damn... He's so amazing enough to add honey to her tea as she finds it bitter. He's someone who knows how to stand for his girl. The way he goes calling her Daisy. Awe! My heart was lost to him. I loved the part how he bought her soup every single day when she was suffering with a flu.
ELLIE - The Female Character definitely can't stop herself from falling for Cam. I'm glad she quit her job and came to Cam.
They both would just make everyone jealous on them for not having such a great love story.
Tropes:-
Forbidden Love
Rom-Com
Slow burn
Caring Hero
Admirable Heroine
My first book from this Author and I'm so glad I got a chance to know and read the book. By the time I wait for her next book I'm planning to meet Lo and Wes who got my attention in this book as well. (Lo - I just wouldn't forget the Truth and Dare came) Well... You wanna know what all the dares were? Just read the book and I'm sure you won't regret it.😊 (KISS THE PERSON WHO DARED YOU)
Thank you @netgalley and @authormadisonwright
For giving this lovely book as an ARC. I completely lost my heart to Camden.
Thanks netgalley for providing me with the arc in exchange for an honest review.
First of all, this book was one of the best book that I got the opportunity to arc read. It was funny , witty, and cute and everything I needed to get myself out of the reading slump. The male lead, Camden is such a perfect book boyfriend. Ellie is such a beautifully written character with whom you could easily resonate. And they are literally made for each other in every way.
The book did give me such a cozy vibe.
Ellie and Camden meet at a concert and it turns out Cam is moving into an apartment where Ellie manages her parents property. Ellie has strict parents who she strives to get approval from, so despite her feelings and attraction for Cam, she tries to stay away from him. They both can’t help how they feel about it each other and end up dating when though he wasn’t going to be in town for long and they had to hide their relationship from her parents.
I first want to say there were cute moments in the book that had a lot of potential. Camden was very sweet, and I initially felt very bad for Ellie when we first met her parents - her mother was awful and was straight up emotionally abusing her daughter, and her dad was no better for just letting his wife treat their daughter that way. I also liked the side characters - Ethel was a hoot, and Sadie was someone I really would’ve liked to see more of.
That being said, I really struggled to read this, and almost DNF’d around 70% but decided to just skim the rest. It was just not my cup of tea. I felt no chemistry between Ellie and Camden so when they started professing their feelings for each other so soon, I was personally turned off. It felt unearned and waaaay too soon for the way they were talking about not wanting to lose each other. There wasn’t really any build up to it besides them having this back and forth between whether or not they could date. The lack of communication between them was also frustrating.
I think another reason this wasn’t for me is because there wasn’t really anything going on plot wise. The big reason why Ellie and Cam couldn’t date was because of her parents being strict about her being unprofessional with residents but when resolved it just fell flat for me.
This also wasn’t for me simply because this was a clean romance and I prefer my romance novels to be open door and on the steamier side.
Thank you to Netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Really really liked this story. must read and go and get it today. Enjoyed all the banter and the chemistry. read it today.
This was light and quick read, yet, unfortunately, not for me. I couldn't connect with the main character, Ellie, I couldn't understand why she is working so hard to get the approval of her parents, who treated her really shitty and no one cared about that, why is she isolating herself from her friends by not sharing hėr problems, why she needs the job so bad, when it makes her so unhappy and lonely. Characters felt a bit shallow, situations forced and unrealistic, and the neverending push-and-pull between Ellie and Cam got old very soon. I hope the book will find its readers.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
A cute story that was unfortunately nothing special for me.
The beginning was immediately insta-lovey, the main female character was too 'quirky' and 'not like other girls', and the plot was a bit boring for me.
If you're looking for a low-stakes romance with fall vibes then check this one out.

1/5 🌶️
I received this as an eARC through NetGalley.
🍂 this was a very sweet, clean read. I initially thought it was closed romance with allusions to intimate scenes, so it did take me by surprise that it’s very clean. Just a few kisses here and there and a very slow burn with both main characters pining over each other
🍂 it’s a quick read once you get through introductions and such, but I do wish there was more! Felt a little rushed in the last 25% of the book. But overall it was super nice to read
🍂great fall book and will get you in the mood for some soup and very sweet tea!
🍂I originally wanted to read this because it’s based in Nashville, TN where I’m currently residing. I absolutely LOVED the bits and pieces that were incorporated that made me remember why I love living in this city so much. (Definitely loved the bit where they go to Love Circle 😉)
🍂 it seemed to have the miscommunication trope in the beginning and I was getting a tad annoyed that the FMC wasn’t telling her close friend and MMC the truth. That’s why I do think it went too fast in the end when that’s when it was all revealed!
If you like clean romance with fluffy bits and focused more on the main character’s plot/arc then this book is for you! ❤️🍂
- Forbidden romance
- Family drama
- Small town vibes
I thought this book was adorable. The FMC is quirky and so much fun. She is a people pleaser, who is constantly trying to try and prove herself to her parents/bosses. Cam, MMC, is new to town to see friends and try to reconnect with himself. I love their meet-cute! I think the characters personality and banter was very cute. Their friends add a lot to the story. I am already ready for a whole book focused on Ellie’s brothers!! I will say the plot felt a little forced. I found it hard to connect to Ellie’s family issues. Overall a fun/fast read.
Thank you to netgalley and Madison Wright for an arc of this book!
This was such cute and sweet read! Both of the MC’s are genuinely nice people and you really are rooting for them to get together.
I liked how real Ellie was; she’s very down on her luck and just wants to please everyone, but doesn’t know how to when she’s almost fired for being friendly with the residents living at her apartment complex. Although I wanted to just shake her at parts, I love her character arc in this and where she ends up and I just hope she keeps finding things that work for her.
Cam is of course dreamy and near enough perfect, but not that it’s so in your face that you think he’s too good to be true. He also is wandering a bit in life and doesn’t know what’s going to happen and then Ellie enters his life like a whirlwind! All the little ways they start integrating each other into their lives was just so well done and I was fully on board.
Although it could be classed as predictable I still thoroughly enjoyed this and would recommend it to anyone who wants a swoon worthy romance!
Thank you to Netgalley and Xpresso for the arc!
3 stars
This was a sweet forbidden love story, I really liked the love interest and how patient he was with ellie.
That epilogue ending? The CUTEST.
The plot and the characters were great, this trope is just one that I struggle with sometimes, but in this case I feel like it was done well.
If you enjoy fluffy forbidden romances, I definitely recommend!
Thank you again to Netgalley and Xpresso for the arc!
My thoughts:
Likes - This was a really cute and a slow burn romance. I loved how Camden always took care of Ellie, making her soups and tea with honey. It gave me all the fall and cozy vibes. The forbidden love between them made it all very exciting.
🍂
Dislikes - Ellie's parents were very cruel and disrespectful against their daughter. All Ellie was doing during the entire book is to please them and make them proud of her. But I felt that the problems with her parent's didn't get solved in the end at all.

4.5/5.0
Ellies Bates has one more chance to make it right. She is working for her parents as a manager of The Flats apartment complex. Newly promoted and ready to keep climbing that ladder to make her parents proud, Ellie is given one last warning. No more hanging out with the residents, her most special friends. What will she do when the new guy catches her eye, will she toss out the rule book just this once?
Camden Lane is an upbeat photographer stopping by Nashville for a quick job, a temporary thing. With plans to go back to Los Angeles in a few weeks, Cam isn’t thinking about making plans and long-term commitments. The longer he stays in Tennessee, the more he realizes how much LA dimmed his light, how drained his clients make him feel, and how much he has been missing. Maybe it is time for some change, to follow his passions, and find some love along the way.
Daisy and Dave… I mean Ellie and Cam are a perfect match. Ellie is the striped sweater among black dresses, the pop of color you find yourself searching for. Camden is the out-of-town photographer looking for his muse. Instant connection, bodies held together in dance, a heartfelt connection under the stars; little did they know Camden is off limits, he is Ellie’s new resident.
I inhaled this story in about two days between school and work, I did not want to put it down. From the very start, you are cheering Ellie and Cam on and gushing over the unbelievably sweet moments between them. Their inside jokes are precious and meaningful and never feel redundant. Ellie and Cam are lovable characters with small and unique little connections that make you want to learn more about them. No spoilers, but the last bit was so so good and had me cheering like crazy. Highly recommend giving this book a read and falling in love with Ellie and Cam too.
Thank you to Netgalley and Madison Wright for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
