“You are an explosion of color in a dreary landscape. You’re a striped sweater in a crowd of black dresses. You, Ellie Bates, are the statement piece the whole house is designed around.”
- Forbidden romance
- Forced proximity
- Closed door
Ellie and Camden meet one night by chance where they spend hours with each other talking, dancing, and sharing a kiss under the stars. The night ends and they part ways, not thinking they’ll ever see each other again. As fate would have it, Cam runs into Ellie in the office of his new apartment building that she happens to be the manager of. Getting involved with tenants is not allowed, but they can’t seem to stay away from each other.
This book makes you crave crisp autumn days, cozy sweaters, homemade soup, couch cuddles, and warm tea. The characters were fun and descriptions of the setting made me feel like I was there.
There were a lot of cute moments between the main characters, however I do wish they would’ve communicated better. At times the back and forth was a little repetitive.
Despite that, I still think this story was wholesome and Cam & Ellie were both very sweet!
Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours and NetGalley for the ARC!
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It’s an easy, lighthearted and sweet romance. I loved the MCs and the side characters were the best! I was rooting for the MCs from the start and finished this book in two days. Even though it was a little predictable, the ending was super sweet! I wish the book was a little longer, I wanted more for their relationship. One thing that bothered was that the forbidden romance plot didn’t really feel that forbidden. I would recommend this book at all of my romance lovers! It’s a fun forbidden romance!
I was so impressed by this book. It was amazing and gave me such warm & cozy vibes. I absolutely LOVED the story of Ellie & Cam. This novel was so beautifully written. I have 0 complaints.
This book was absolutely adorable. Sometimes we need a little HEA story to get us through the day, and this book was definitely that. Thank you NetGalley and Madison Wright for this ARC.
Ellie Bates has been put under a lot of pressure by her parents, It’s not easy mixing business with family. She had thought she was doing a great job at managing her parents apartment complex, but an unexected visit from them says otherwise. They decide to give her one final chance to prove herself, as long as she stops crossing the line between business and friendship with the tenants. In fear of losing her job Ellie is determined not too screw up and even though it’s hard she follows her resolve to distance herself from the personal relationships she’s built with the tenants.
Camden Lane is new in town, taking a break from his hectic LA lifestyle, he decides to spend two months doing some work for his longtime friend, Wes. On his first night he decides to do something a little out of character for him and goes out to a local concert. Here he meets a stunning girl he feels instantly drawn towards. The two of them share not only a dance, but a romantic kiss under the stars. What he didn’t expect was to walk into her office the next day and find out she’s actually running the place.
This causes all kinds of trouble for Ellie, her parents have a strict “no dating the tenants” policy that she absolutely cannot break if she wants to keep this job. She’s already on thin ice and the temptation that is Camden Lane is not helping her situation. Though it seems impossible, Ellie tries to keep the night they kissed out of her mind, she can never let something like that happen again. Fate doesn’t seem to agree, because somehow the two keep running into each other. When avoiding her feelings proves to be tougher than she originally thought, her will power to stay away from Camden slowly begins to break.
The romance was so sweet throughout the entire book. Camden was so perfect! Especially when he went out of his way to take care for Ellie when she was sick, even when she kept pushing him away. He was so determined to make it work between them. Theres no denying how amazing they are together, from the first night they met to awkwardly being thrown together by their mutual friends, the two of them were always fighting an undeniable attraction. This book stole my heart and I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys wholesome romance with HEA.
Tropes:
❤ Forbidden romance
❤ Slow burn
❤ Matching making friends
❤ Forced proximitey
❤ Controlling parents
Loved this book so much!
This story followed Ellie a girl who manages an apartment complex for her parents and Camden the guy she meets who ends up being on of her tenants. Already on her last strike at work with her parents she knows giving in to the chemistry between them would be breaking a big rule her parents have, risk losing her job and further strain the relationship between them. But she's having a hard time staying away from Cam.
You could almost feel the struggle between these two. I really enjoyed that the story was told from both points of view. You could really see how they were both feeling and how badly they both wanted to be around each other. The slow burn between them and gradual progression of their friendship/relationship really made you root for them. There was also some little funny moments that really made the book better along with a good group of side characters.
I only wish this book had been longer! I wanted more of Ellie and Cam at the end. I wanted to get more into her relationship with her family and why they were that way towards her. I would've easily ready another 100 pages about these two.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!
This is the feel-good romance I didn't know I needed right now. A perfect seasonal romance that is "clean" (and thank goodness, honestly, because I'm not big on spice). It's a cinnamon roll wrapped in a rainbow-striped sweater. Sweet and swoony.

I LOVED this story!!! Just by looking at the cover, I could tell it would be something I enjoyed. But I was blown away by how much I loved it. I loved the characters, the vibe, the Nashville setting just to name a few pieces. In real time, this comes out tomorrow and I have already ordered the paperback copy for my shelf!

This book was a reassuring balm to my people-pleasing heart! It’s warm and perfectly cozy, but will still make you feel all the feelings 🥹
read if you love:
➖forbidden romance (tenant/landlord) 🔑
➖forced proximity 🏠
➖the “taking care of them when they’re sick” trope 🤒🍜
➖tension pulled so taut it could be used for tightrope walking 🔥🥵
➖meddling friends and their a+ matchmaking shenanigans 🤪
➖lots of really cozy and vulnerable moments 📸🍂
Ellie’s character is deeply complex and I think anyone who’s ever felt suffocated under the weight of their parents expectations will truly get and love her. The loss that Ellie feels from giving so many pieces of herself away is relatable and that unexpected loneliness that comes along with it can be so hard to understand if you haven’t experienced it, but I think Madison captures those feelings so perfectly with Ellie.
Cam just so happens to be exactly what Ellie needs. He’s the fluffiest cinnamon roll in the baking dish and his unwavering tenderness with her tugged endlessly at my heartstrings. He cares for Ellie in a way that no one else ever has and I adore the way that he never gave up on her (despite her every attempt to push him away)! Cam & Ellie are just two characters who deserve endless love & all the good things! ❤️🩹
“Just Between Us” is the perfect comfy book and it was just what I needed to get out of this gloomy weather induced funk! Thank you sm to @netgalley for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review!
This book was unbelievably cute. It had the perfect mixture of romantic tension and fluff. I never felt that the conflict of the story was forced, and I loved both Ellie and Cam. The only element I didn't really love was the whole Daisy/Dan thing, I thought that it went on for way too long.
i received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. all opinions and views are my own.
this was so much better than the first book!!! Madison really upped her game with this one. i loved the characters (and i especially adored Cam). forbidden romance plots will always go down well with me. and the ending actually worked this time round, it didn’t feel rushed or like it didn’t make sense.
i also want to note that Ellie’s character development was amazing. to feel her unease and anxiety throughout the book and then to see her manage to pull herself out and do what was best for her was incredible.

3.5⭐️ I tried really hard to love this story. There were parts of it I did enjoy and it started off promising but I struggled with the characters. I liked Cam individually and I felt like he was a stronger character. Ellie was so focused on making her parents proud that she lost herself and those around her. Her parents were horrible to her and everyone just let it happen. I wanted her to stand up for herself and do what was clearly making her happy which was being with Cam. I feel like they drug it out and neither of them would express their feelings. They had a sweet relationship together and they had their moments but they were holding back since they were hiding not only from her parents but their feelings. I felt like Cam had more feelings for her then Ellie had for him throughout their story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Madison Wright for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I truly enjoy a light and sweet slow burn, and in many ways I did this as well. I found it hard to connect and stay fully interested in Cam and Ellie’s constant back and forth. That being said, I did also enjoy they’re super romantic and adorable moments as well.
I would like to thank Madison Wright and Netgalley for giving me a copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. First I have to say that you will all fall for Camden, I'm just warning you! He is so sweet and understanding! Ellie and Camden have a little fun after a concert. They do not expect to see each other again but surprise surprise...their second meeting comes pretty quick. Ellie's job is in jeopardy if they continue to see each other so she has to decide if he is worth it. Camden is the kind of guy who brings various kinds of soups when Ellie is sick with the flu, made by him(Yes please!). Ellie's parents are not very encouraging and do not seem to trust her judgement, which believe me will infuriate you! Can she finally stand up for herself and pave the way for a continued relationship with Camden?
This book has ticked every single one of my boxes for a perfect romantic comedy. I laughed out loud, I swooned, my heart swelled, and I gained a new book boyfriend. Cam & Ellie forever!! As always, Madison Wright has killed the game.
Thank you Netgalley and Madison Wright for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book in 2 days and absolutely devoured it from the second I started it. Cam from the very beginning just seemed like such a kind guy, someone who was so outgoing and forward. When you get to know him more and see how kind he really is and genuine he is with his feelings, you fall for him even more. His perspective is EVERYTHING, duo POVs have my entire heart. Knowing what he was thinking and how he felt for Ellie was amazing to read, and reading the boy fall in love is my favourite.
Ellie, is clearly overworked, and overwhelmed but wants to throw herself into this relationship. Cam is everything that she needs at that moment, but can't have. Ellie throws everything she has into her friendships and relationships with people that she doesn't take moments for herself; Cam is that relief and someone she can be herself with. Not someone she has to impress or dress differently for. Ellie has a hard family life, but I absolutely love the addition of her two brothers (I would love to read more about either of them, their humour is so relatable and I love their relationship with each other and I would love to read about them). I am glad she had her brothers in this book and all of the residents who are by her side.
Also the fake identity thing they had going during the whole novel, her perfume?? Absolutely perfect. I am looking forward to reading the first book in this series and hopefully many more.
If you’re looking for an easy cute read, then I highly recommend this!
I’m not usually a fan of Insta-like? But I feel like this was written really well. I loved the characters, and my heart hurt for the mfc as I knew exactly how she felt!
This was such a quick read and I couldn’t put it down! It’s currently 5am and im so happy I finished this!
I guess the only reasons this wasn’t a 5 was because it was a little repetitive. Like she wears different coloured outfits everywhere and I’m not going to lie, the girl wore a lot of questionable outfits… it just seemed like it didn’t need to be mentioned as many times.
Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed this where I couldn’t put it down. I liked the writing, the chemistry between the two characters and how it was a mix between funny and raw.
Thank you netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read an arc of this in exchange of my honest review
Super cute!! Ellie works for her parents at one of their apartment complexes, and she is banned from befriending any of the residents outside of work; but Ellie is a social butterfly and wants to help everyone and make friends. Her parents find out in a series of unfortunate events and they give her an ultimatum, and she chooses herself. What a cute novel to learn to respect yourself and your parents and do the right thing for yourself. Loveddd it.
4 stars
This was a lovely surprise.
The way i could relate with Ellie was painful to read yet i found some solace in her. I felt seen and it made me happy to see her find not only people who supported her and make her believe in herself but also find her voice and see how amazing she truly was.
Cam was a delight too. I need a Cam in my life. He was everything I love in a book boyfriend. He was caring and not overbearing and have his own struggles and left Ellie be her own person and find herself yet was still there for her and ugh I love it!
I love the side characters too, especially Ethel. Everyone needs an Ethel in their lives.
I'm not going to talk about the main conflict because I feel it might be spoilers but just know I was ready to throw hands for Ellie 👊
This book was beautifully written. You could feel the love and care it was put into it.
I'll be definitely reading more books from Madison.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
When I came across this book, I was immediately drawn to the cover and then I read the synopsis I was HOOKED.
I loved Ellie's personality and the love story that was forming between her and Cam...who doesn't love a bit of forbidden love? I'll admit while I am not usually a slow burn romance reader, this one was done in a way I liked. Seriously, what a cozy fun read. This is the perfect book to cozy up with this holiday season.
I wish there wasn't so much back and forth between Ellie and Cam...it felt a bit repetitive at times. This book took me longer to read, by their lack of communication and again repetitive cycle.

Thank you so much ARC for sending me a copy of this book to read for an exchange for an honest review.
This was such a cute read! I haven't read anything by this author yet and I can't wait to read more. This book had some heartbreaking moments that so many people understand and go through so it was nice reading about it and how you can change the situation you are in. I will be recommending this book for sure. Thank you for allowing me to read this in advanced. I can't wait to read more.
