The writing itself in this book was great, but the rest didn't work for me. It leaned much closer to slasher horror than thriller and the violence felt gratuitous. The pacing was off and the ending was incredibly disappointing. I liked the idea of the female vigilante, but something about her presentation felt awkward and didn't feel authentic.

A huge thank you to the author and the publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

"Pretty Evil" by Zoe Rosi delves into the twisted world of Camilla Black, a character I couldn't help but feel strangely drawn to despite her dark nature. As an affluent fashion editor living a seemingly glamorous life, Camilla's outward appearance masks her true identity as a vigilante killer driven by a thirst for vengeance. Despite the risks, Camilla justifies her actions as a means of making the world a better place, but when one of her victims is discovered, her carefully constructed facade begins to crumble.

The introduction of Detective Wheelan adds an element of urgency to Camilla's predicament, as his relentless pursuit threatens to expose her deadly secret. Yet, despite the mounting pressure, Camilla finds herself unable to quell her insatiable thirst for justice, even as she teeters on the brink of destruction.

As I followed Camilla's tumultuous journey, I found myself questioning the boundaries of morality and justice. Can one person's quest for vengeance ever truly be justified? Will Camilla's relentless pursuit of her own brand of justice ultimately lead to her downfall, or will she outsmart the forces closing in around her?

Overall though, PRETTY EVIL is extremely graphic. In tone, violence, and sex. It is dark, gritty and twisted. It is not a book for everyone. It offers a chilling and thought-provoking exploration of the darkness that lurks beneath society's polished facade, leaving readers questioning their own perceptions of right and wrong. Through Camilla's gripping narrative, Rosi crafts a compelling and morally ambiguous tale that will linger in the minds of readers long after the final page is turned.

Camilla is a fascinating character and very well developed. The start of the book is pretty explosive and draws you in. There is a lot of violence, often gratitituously so but probably to be expected from a book of this nature. It's a lot steamier than I imagined though.

This was incredibly easy to read, and it had a good plot to follow, in my opinion. And for once in a long time, I can say I enjoyed the ending of this book. A lot of books have endings that don't really work, but this one did for me. I am not a huge fan of smut, so the sex scenes were slightly overdone, and I did skip through them just because I don't like to read them.
Thank you to the publishing company and to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

To start off Camila is my favorite character by fa. This is a woman who was incredibly smart and is twenty steps ahead of her prey and the constables. The start out the gate was amazingly good. I was so intrigued with what was happening that I didn’t want to stop reading. The plot was definitely one that the main character added to her goals in the end. I swear that I thought Jess was on her trail. The characters are very interesting and played well into Camila’s hands. The other characters besides, Machanaan and Jess really made other parts of the story not entertaining. I’m still on the fence around Vanessa’s character. The book is a great psychological read to feed your appetite of enjoyment. I received a copy of this book for a voluntary honest review

I went into this thriller completely blind but I think I would have been excited to read this had I read the description because I LOOOOVED the concept of a woman who refuses to be a victim getting revenge on predators via murder. I really enjoyed the execution of this as well. The main character is a total badass and the development of her is beautifully done. The jump back in timeline to help show how she became who she is was a really nice touch. The ending was just so juicy and delicious and everything I was hoping for. I would definitely read more from this author. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A erotic and steamy thriller that I couldn't believe or figure out the murderer, not my usual style of book but it was a interesting change.

2 "tons of potential but no cigar" stars !!

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and Thomas and Mercer. This was re-released Jan. 2023. I am providing an honest review.

We are in the head of a female serial killer who only kills men that have hurt her or other women and/or children. In the meantime she is at the top of her game in fashion editing. But the poor dear is still struggling with feeling hurt and left out...(bah)

So I want to start off on a positive note. Ms.Rosi has got some very to excellent writing chops on her.The prose was consistently 3.5 to 4 star quality. Generally a pleasure to read. I also loved the details about fashion. Most excellent.

The rest not so much...

-the grisliness and violence felt a quite self-indulgent and gratuitous...quite gross really
-the pacing was off...the ending and outcomes were lame lame lame...a cop out and shit show
-the psychology of a female serial killer felt off the mark, expected, a feminist vigilante...umm no
-overall not enjoyable but I wanted to see what happened and that ending....just a resounding NO

I think that Ms. Rosi could really churn out a most excellent feminist thriller or better yet a semi-literary one...this folks though was not it....

This was a very dark thriller, reminding you of the tv series Dexter, but this one is even worse, more blood and gore! Entertaining read.

If you like dexter you'll like this. The beginning was very gripping but then a third way though it took a turn and I couldn't get into the book again.

This book put me in mind of Dexter, but from a female perspective.

I really liked how this book started, and by about 10% in I thought I was going to devour this book.

But shortly afterward the nature of story's content took a turn for the worse and I was put off reading any further.

Camilla Black, a famous fashion editor seems to be anything but violent. but can you judge a book by its cover? in this case turns out NO! Camilla is a bloodthirsty serial killer who justifies her actions by killing only r.psts and pedos.
though the book was captivating and gripping, it sometimes gave me like TV-Show vibe? it's a super dark story, lots of violent but enjoyable to read :)) and I have to say Camilla reminded me of Dexter a lot, like sometimes I just pictured dexter as a elegant woman doing the deeds. :D
the story is strong and writhing is amazing, and what a powerful message :D be aware of women!!

thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy.

A Hunter looking for rapists, peodaphiles to capture and kill. This lady takes her work very seriously and has some novel and very creative ways of dispatching her prey. Revenge is at the top of her list and boy does she need revenge. Camilla is the hunter and I did not like her at first but I was soon rooting for her. Blood soaked , brutal and I loved it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

i thought i'd like it and i really wanted to as well but this just did not do it for me. i kept stalling this for months before eventually and inevitably giving up. then i picked it up again and regretted doing so.

So I was kind of interested in the story… a girl cleaning the town of rapists, molesters etc…however it got old fast, and then too detailed in the sex scenes which didn’t seem pertinent to the general story so I gave up about a third of the way. I lost interest and didn’t care about the rest of the story and if she got caught or not.

2.5 stars
Female serial killer whose primary victims are male rapists/predators? I absolutely love this concept. However, this book fell flat for me. It took me a while to get into with the main character's primary focus being to list all her designer clothes/furniture/belongings she owns during a big chunk of the beginning of the book taking away from the plot. The author also went overboard with the sex scenes throughout the book, also taking away from the plot. I did love the ending though.
Camilla Black is a successful magazine editor for Couture. She also has a secret. She is a serial killer, but she will only kill men who deserve to die- rapists and pedophiles. She is confident she will never get caught and she she is doing the world a favor. Suddenly, after one of her extracurricular activities, she finds a blurry photo of herself and the story of one of her victims on the front page of the news. Detective Wheelan is in the case and determined to identify the killer.
