Even though you knew the outcome-even from book 1, it was a fun story. It was great seeing the buildup. I’ll be sad leaving these characters. Fun read.
Tessa Harper and her two friends own Quench, a highly successful women's magazine. Tessa specialises in makeovers where she helps women build their self esteem and go after what they really want in life. However, just recently Tessa has started to feel somewhat unfulfilled, all these women seem to want to do is get some guy's attention - this shouldn't about getting a guy but about being your best self.
Then when some research indicates that the magazine is losing out by not having any kind of sports articles, one of her friends suggests that Tessa gets some advice from a mutual friend, Ford Maddox, who hosts a very successful sports radio chat show. Ford and Tessa don't really get on, they each think the other's job is silly, she thinks he's a man child and he thinks she's an uptight, snobby princess. Ford has been in love with his co-worker Patricia for two years but she has strictly friend-zoned him while dating guys who cheat on her and treat her badly.
In return for teaching Tessa about sports, giving her some advice about sports stars to interview, and co-hosting a podcast with her, Ford asks for a makeover to help him win the fair Patricia. Will these two opposites realise that they are meant for each other?
This was okay, but I can't help but feel that Ford's makeover was just wear better shoes and white t-shirts and have a few scatter cushions whilst Tessa had to become less high maintenance and learn to love sport. I would have loved Ford to have had to do more because he didn't seem to grow as a person.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Tessa is one of the owners of Quench and the make over queen. She loves her job but after her last makeover, she’s feeling a little unfulfilled. The girls decide to add some sports podcasts to their forum and make her in charge of getting it started. Ford is a sportscaster and a co godparent to Tessa’s best friends little girl. They dislike each other but Tessa asks for his help with the sports podcast. He will if she will help make him over to get the girl he has been in love with for years. Tessa agrees but the more time they spend together, the more they find out about each other. Will Ford choose the girl he has obsessed over or the fiery woman he has come to know?
OMG! I don’t know what to say. Enemies to friends. Tessa is a strong, independent woman. Ford doesn’t realize he is fine the way he was. He was like a puppy wanting attention from his master, who just kept him away. At first I didn’t think it was going to keep me interested but I could not put it down. I believe this is my favorite one of this series.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
hooked and hooked some more. Loved all of this and couldn't put it down. I was like oh my. I need to know more. Read it.
Hands down my favorite in the Twist of Fate series! Loved everything about it. Fun, fast, lighthearted read with several lol moments.
Definitely add this to your summer TBR list - the whole series will make a fantastic beach read.
Thank you #netgalley and #montlake for the eARC.
Save the Best for Last is an absolutely delightful enemies to lovers story. Tessa and Ford have a long history of dislike, but circumstances in Tessa’s work at Quench and Ford’s obsession with his co-worker, Patricia, artfully conspire to bring them together. This book is filled with new experiences and ultimately understanding for both as they try to help each other achieve set goals. Tessa’s Uncle Dom and and his friends are priceless. Series readers also will be happy with the updates on previously featured characters. This book should not be missed. It’s funny, sexy and insightful. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.
There is no redeeming the male character at this stage. Just no. He’s an idiot and there’s no hope for him. Incidentally I’m DNF’ing this one out of sheer annoyance. If male stupidity was a book, it would be this one.
SPOILER TAG ON/ : It's a fake dating trope between enemies to lovers, the hero, Ford, begs the heroine, Tessa, to give him a makeover, persuaded it will help him score the woman he says he thinks he's in love with: Patricia from work. He has barely talked to this supposed love of his life, but he insists she's the one, the reasons he gives are the flimsiest but whatever, dude wants this woman and no other. Heroine reluctantly agrees to the idea but then goes beyond herself helping the guy, posing as his fake girlfriend, scheming public appearances to make the other woman jealous, initiating kissing rehearsals (whyyyy), home decor make-over. All the works.
Looking past the fact that it's juvenile for characters this old to play mind games like this, the predictable happens and heroine falls for the guy, he's become obsessed with her also but chooses to ignore his feelings. Then, on the night he's about to finally have sex —his ultimate goal SMH— with the woman he's done all the changes for, he figures he needs to figure out what these crazy feelings for Tessa really are. So he straight up leaves his shiny new woman dry and goes to Tessa instead. Has several rounds of wild, passionate sex with her followed by a day with her family.
By then you'd think he has indeed figured Tessa is the woman for him. But nope. He doubles down and tells her he needs to see where things can go with the woman he said he has loved for some time now. So he kinda breaks up with her and goes back to the other woman. Even his dude friends try to make him see the light at this stage. He's deaf to reason.
Eventually Ford comes to term with his true feelings but it's the heroine that comes back fighting for him.
Yes, you heard that right. The heroine comes back asking him to pick her. Never mind that he had just decided the same thing, dude took his sweet time, decided to trying on the heroine for size by sleeping with her before going back to another woman... No. Just, NO. Ford is an asshole and he deserves to stay alone and miserable, play acting with a woman who doesn't give a shit about who he really is. /SPOILER TAG OFF
Looking back I see I've rated the first in this series 1 star and had DNF'd it at 25%. It's definitely not the series for me despite having enjoyed many of this author's work previously.
