Frankie has a hot temper that has gotten her into trouble more than once. After an altercation where she works for her father at his company, he insists she goes to anger management classes. The fact that her father is seeing the woman running the class certainly frustrates Frankie.
Although more than reluctant, Frankie attends her first class. The group are encouraged to write a forgiveness list. Frankie makes the list, but she finds herself distracted by one of the attendees. After leaving that first class, Frankie calls a ride share and somehow loses her journal. This journal was used for work. More than that, that list was written in that journal.
Before long, the enemies Frankie has wracked up in her life begin experiencing accident after accident. Frankie soon feels that the man she met at the class, Adrian, is responsible for these accidents. However, she cannot prove it and seems to have no way to stop him.
Frankie was a complex character. She really did work hard to get a handle on her anger, and really wants to let her past go. Then there is Adrian, and his mysterious nature and how he impacts Frankie's life. This thrilling book by Hannah Mary McKinnon is one to make you think, especially with the ending that left me speculating, something I am seeing in more books of late.
Many thanks to MIRA and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Slow Burn for Sure. In the end I enjoyed the book but it was slower than would have liked. The twist was good but alittle predictable.
I think the characters could have been a little better.
Frankie is an angry woman. In anger managment class, she writes a list of those who she is angry with (including herself) in a sunflower notebook as part of the class. Then, the notebook goes missing. Just after she found a hot guy from therapy going through her stuff when they were out for coffee. Then, the people in the notebook start getting hurt -- what is going on? At around 60 percent, a brand new twist happens that you won't see coming.
Frankie was really unlikeable and the focus on the SUNFLOWER journal was over the top. I felt like the twist (no spoiler) was like a separate book and totally out of nowhere.
I've read and enjoyed so many of this author's books. They are always so well written and make me hold my breath or keep me on the edge all the way through. I had such high hopes for this one too. I was very excited to receive this book. Alas I was a bit disappointed though...
While it pulls you right in at the start with a woman screaming because she is being taken for a ride off a cliff, it quickly became somewhat unrealistic for me.
I'm not saying the book isn't good because it is. In places. For the first half of the book I read all about Frankie and her anger issues. Maybe she had a right to some anger because life dealt her a bad hand but does that give her the right to treat people like they are less then human. To be somewhat of a bully? I did not like Frankie. I did not connect to her on any level. She just kept on doing the same things without listening to what anyone else had to say. We all for the most part have things in our past that can cause us to be angry but we don't go around being so mean to others. Or at least I don't. Frankie does have a lot going on and maybe she should have been put somewhere for all this angry she harbors for every person she meets. I found her to be a bit on the selfish side. Then when I did kind of start feeling for her and thought she was going in a different direction she disappoints me again. But she was persistent for sure. Things she did I found very hard to believe in parts. I mean breaking and entering in a place that should have had fairly good security. That was a bit odd but she was determined.
Frankie is the main character and very unlikable. That does not make the book unlikable though. It's just her. She is a bit selfless in my opinion. Even when people are nice to her she explodes. And as much as she seems to hate the human race she's not at all observant to her surroundings. She just hops into a car assuming it's her Uber. She's thirty two not twenty. She should know better. But all of the crazy things she does and all the selfish acts she is involved in come to a crashing halt when the climax of the story finally ensues. When she finds the one person she is looking for and without caution approaches this person. She's pretty bad about following people or showing up on their doorstep not knowing if they will hurt her or not. She's very resilient for sure. Not too bright though. Even her own family seems to be on edge around her. They don't seem to have much faith in her.
This was a fun book to read after I passed the halfway mark. It picked up speed and really took off. Though I had it figured out as soon as a certain person was brought to light it was interesting how it played out. Again Frankie stepped in it and without thinking took off after someone she didn't really know at all. Maybe she is lead by her heart. Or could it be her anger. Who knows. I think the ending was ok except she seemed to turn around awfully fast. You just can't get over some of her issues that fast. I think it being family maybe they can forgive her faster than others can but she is still lying and still has some issues. It's very apparent when she opens the door and you see there could possibly be a sequel to this book. I honestly hope there is. I want to know. I want to see what happens next. I want to know more.
While this book drove me crazy in parts, in other parts it was quite good. It finally hit that edge of your seat factor that I love in this author's work. Even though I had no doubts who was doing the dastardly deeds it was fairly good. I still have questions as to how this person would have know some of the characters. Or how they could really get away with some of the things they did. But that is the joy of fiction.
Well done Hannah Mary McKinnon. I look forward to your next book.
Thank you #NetGalley, #HannahMaryMcKinnon, #Harlequintradepublishers, #MIRA for this ARC. This is my true thoughts about his book.
Four stars from me.
I'll post to sight asap. I am part of a blog tour and have to wait until the right date.
Meet Frankie Morgan. Everyone around her thinks she has an anger issue. And her father is dating an anger management specialist named Jubilee.
She has had a time of it so far. Her mother died at the hands of a hit-and-run driver, everyone around her is miserable and yet here she is sitting in a circle with other angry people listening to Jubilee tell them about the process of forgiveness.
So now Frankie is writing a forgiveness list.
And soon after the notebook with the list goes missing. And the people on her list start getting injured in weird and deadly accidents. But who in the world is getting revenge instead of forgiveness?
I did not care for Frankie’s character. She seemed one-dimensional to me. The idea was good, but the execution not so much in my opinion.

Frankie is one angry woman, she is easily triggered and set off by just about everything. Her father is at his wits end with her, so she has agreed to attend some Anger Management group sessions to see if that will help any. At her first session they're to make a list, a list of forgiveness. On this list they're to write down everyone's name who has wronged them at some point. The more people Frankie adds to the list the more she realizes that this isn't a forgiveness list but instead this is a revenge list.
Someone on Frankie's list has turned up dead, definitely has to be a coincidence. Then someone else turns up dead. Can this still be a coincidence? Frankie goes looking for the list and she realizes it's gone. SOMEONE HAS STOLEN HER LIST and is killing everyone on it. This is when she realizes that her name and her fathers name is on this list, she needs to find out who stole her list before they kill more people including herself.
This was definitely a fun, quick, popcorn thriller that you'll probably end up reading in one sitting. Yes, Frankie and her attitude can definitely be alot but it was still pretty fun.
One-sentence summary:
Frankie creates a list of people she’d like to get revenge on as part of an anger management class she’s started taking, but when the list goes missing and bad things start happening to the people named, she is forced to find out who is exacting revenge on her behalf before those she loves most are hurt.

I absolutely love, love, LOVE a main character who is likeable yet on a downward spiral of her own making. When it’s done well, it is truly one of my favorite things, and it is done SO VERY WELL in this latest book from McKinnon.
I felt so connected to – and emotionally invested in – the character of Frankie, and it felt refreshing to read about a woman with *gasp* anger issues. How *dare* a women be angry, let alone express that anger? Honestly, though, Frankie’s anger issues seriously get in her way, even as she attempts to overcome them through anger management class, which is where she creates a ‘revenge list’: a list of people she wish she could pay back for the harm they’ve caused her.
From a storytelling standpoint, Frankie’s anger provides a brilliant personal obstacle she must overcome while she struggles to uncover the mystery of who is enacting brutal paybacks on the very people she named on that list. As a reader, I was entertained, amused and at times utterly horrified at how Frankie reacted to people and situations, while wanting so desperately for her to face her pain and get her life together, which was what I enjoyed most about the book.
Along with this exceptional character, this read offers some great twists and shocking surprises, like any great thriller.
I highly recommend this one! It comes out May 23!
Frankie is her own worst enemy. Her anger has gotten her into trouble enough times that she has finally agreed with her boss (her dad) that she should start anger management classes. But how do you do that when you're even angry at the instructor?
When Frankie is instructed to make a list of people she should forgive, She ranks herself at the top of the list because she's angry about something that happened a long time ago. She's also mad at: her dad, her grouchy neighbor, a woman who bullied her in high school, her high school boyfriend, a guy she went to college with, someone she worked with, a client, an unknown person, and the "bastard who killed my mother".
When accidents involving the people on her list start piling up, Frankie starts to get nervous. And even worse, she's starting to make herself a target, showing up at all of the "accident" sites.
While McKinnon's previous book (Never Coming Home) was a five star read for me, I had trouble reconciling the humor in this book. It made it read like a slightly elevated cozy and I wanted the telling to be a little more serious. That's just my opinion. There's plenty to enjoy from the plot to the twists and you might love the dark humor that's instilled throughout the book!
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing, MIRA for an advance reader's copy.
This book was SO good! Frankie goes to anger management class and sees hot guy, Evan who then proceeds to be looking through her purse. Later, she accepts an Uber ride but comes to find out it's fake. And things go downhill from there! Her brother Rico and partner Noa have adopted daughter Azumi in the hospital with a ruptured appendix and her doctor is Tyler, a man who blackmailed Frankie in college. What could get worse? In a word, EVERYTHING! McKinnon moves this along at breakneck speed and I enjoyed every crazy minute of it!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
The Revenge List, Hannah Mary McKinnon
Pub date: May 23/23
Hannah’s done it again!
The Revenge List is a psychological thriller that hits a nerve in its relatable premise and then plays and preys upon morally grey boundaries.
Frankie has an anger issue. Anger threatens to interfere with her ability to function, hold down a job, and make and sustain relationships. One outburst leads to the next, culminating in her having to take anger management classes. A class that has Frankie create a forgiveness list. When her list is seemingly lost and those listed begin to wind up being hurt, she realizes that someone is using it as a revenge list. Frankie needs to find who is behind the revenge acts and put a stop to them before another person winds up hurt. Before she ends up hurt.
The twists and turns are plentiful and will keep you guessing until the final pages. Corrupting what you believe is right and what might be needed. Leaving you on the side you might not have seen coming!
Thank you to Hannah Mary McKinnon and the team at Mira Books and Harlequin Books for my gifted ARCs.
Hannah Mary McKinnon, the author of “The Revenge List,” has written a captivating, intense, and riveting novel. The genres for this book are Psychological thriller, Suspense, Mystery, and Thriller. The author is an amazing writer and storyteller and uses dark humor and wit. The story is set in the present and goes to the past regarding the characters and events. The author vividly describes her complicated and conflicted characters, the setting, and the scenery. I read this novel in one sitting and highly recommend this to other readers.
Frankie Morgan, the protagonist of this story, has some anger management issues and is in an anger management class to learn to deal appropriately with her rages. The teacher for the class assigned everyone to make a list of people they should make amends to, and Frankie made a “Revenge List” of those people that she feels have wronged her in some way. According to Frankie, some were bullies, some took advantage, and some betrayed her.
Unfortunately, the book with her list temporarily disappears, and several people on the list have met with “surprising accidents.” Accidents are starting to become more dangerous and deadlier. Frankie has her suspicions about who the suspect doing this is.
Anger management seems slow, and Frankie is losing her temper more frequently with her family and neighbors. Frankie is aware that the person/s must be stopped before anyone else on the list gets hurt, including her.
There are twists and turns; I guarantee you will be shocked by the ending. I hope that Hannah Mary McKinnon will write a follow-up novella or novel. This is one intriguing, edgy, and unique thriller!
Decent read. Ending was nothing spectacular. I enjoyed the main character, but the rest of the family not sure I get their role in the book especially the brother.
thanks NetGally for advance copy 3.5 stars
The Revenge List by Hannah Mary McKinnon is a very highly recommended thriller with a jaw-dropping opening. You'll be glued to the pages to see what led to this scene.
According to everyone who knows her Frankie Morgan has well-known anger issues, so it is no surprise that her father has asked her to attend six sessions of an anger management group. During the first class, she is asked to make a forgiveness list of the people she believes have wronged her. She makes the list in the notebook she always carries, but during the break she skips the rest of the class to get coffee with another attendee. Then an incident has her getting angry at him and loosing her notebook. She eventually recovers it, but not until she notices that accidents are happening to some of the people on her list. Frankie is desperately trying to find out who took the notebook and who is targeting the names on her list.
The Revenge List is an excellent, well-written thriller that was impossible to put down once I started reading. I liked this book at the beginning and then began to love it as I continued reading. After the opening, the tension is already high and keeps climbing. Events in her life are adding to the pressure. As the plot unfolds almost everyone is a suspect and nothing is as straightforward as it originally appears. There are several twists along the way as well as encounters with the police as Frankie does her investigating. The final denouement will provide you with a thrilling shocking jolt.
Adding to the interest are the background stories of the people who are on her forgiveness list and why they are on the list. Once these stories start being told, Frankie's anger becomes more understandable. Sure she still needs to work through the anger and forgive people, but the causes of it are more justifiable. Frankie becomes a fully realized character through her backstories and you will care about her.

A protagonist with anger issues, but she is trying to be better. So, Frankie goes to an anger management class where she must make a list of those people she should forgive. Then, after the list is lost, people on the list start having suspicious accidents. Finally, the twist, and it was a good one. Really kept me reading and looking for the answers. Thank you NetGalley for providing the ARC.
Not every book is my cup of tea - and that's ok. Even if I didn't like it, I attempt to find readers that would. I read Sister Dear in 2020 and gave it three stars. I then read You Will Remember Me in 2021 and gave it four stars. The Revenge List is my third read by McKinnon. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a digital advance copy.

• Filled with spite, secrets, and lies, The Revenge List is a dark, twisted, bizarre anger management exercise gone awry. I think fans of the Finlay Donovan series will enjoy this one.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for sending this book for review. All opinions are my own.
This was a good one. Fast paced and I really needed to know how this one ended. Though I wanted to literally lose my own mind on the behavior of our main character at time, she was well written. Her anger issues made for an interesting storyline as this is not a common trait in female protagonists!
Personally for me, I found the red herrings being put out throughout the book didn't really convince me. Once we found out the one twist, you knew it had to be that.
Omggg I LOVED this book !! I couldn't stop reading it .
About 50ish% of the way through a plot twist happens that I did not see coming & wow .. 😳
Incredible writing & storytelling. The characters are so well done .. I can't say e ought about this book. Go read it 🖤
Thank u #Netgalley for the Arc, it was incredible !
I am a huge fan and have read all of Hanna Mary McKinnon's books. This one, while not a favorite from her, was still really good. I LOVED Frankie! She has anger issues and is sent to anger management by her boss, a.k.a. Dear Old Dad. She is required to create a forgiveness list of people who have supposedly wronged her to help let go of some anger. The list goes missing, people start dying and what follows is a really good mystery. Yes, I had a pretty good idea of what was going on and I was mostly right, but I was still totally invested in Frankie and her journey. I did think the big twist was a little out there, but I was able to overlook it and move on. Great ending! Look forward to more from this author!
Thank you to #netGalley, Hannah Mary McKinnon and Harlequin Trade Publishing, MIRA for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
