* ARC NETGALLEY REVIEW
The author spared nothing when writing this book, from supporting his book with resources, to having years of experience to validate his writing. If your beliefs and values align with these concepts and this practice is fitting, I highly recommend this book. I will be adding it to my library of book to have to expand knowledge.
The introduction said that the reader should read the author's first two books for background information before reading this one. Why not put it all in one book? Then it said if you have extensive astrological knowledge you can follow it. Yay! I'm allowed to read it!
I have to admit I was hoping for a book with wider scope. This is specifically about making talismans using the Solomonic seals. If that's what you're looking for, this would probably be a good choice, keeping in mind the requisite previous books.
It's explained in an easy to follow manner and covers all the aspects of 'Celestial Magick' including planetary correspondences, spirits, zodiacal correspondences, and lunar mansions.
I don't think it's relevant to witches, unless the individuals have an interest in Golden Dawn methods. This is more about ritual and ceremonial magick, which the author differentiates, though basically they are UK/US names for the same thing. He's entitled to impose his own definitions I guess.
An interesting book for its subject matter, but doesn't cover general amulet/talisman magic from folklore or historical witchcraft.
This book by Frater Barrabbas is truly a manual for use. Everything I had wondered about was covered in a logical, methodical manner. The directions are designed for all levels and provide examples and guidance. In my opinion, this book is a real effort at helping anyone who wishes to become a real Mage and begin crafting their life in a positive way. Frater B has written something that is sure to become a classic.
Thanks to Netgalley for this advanced reader copy. What an interesting book. Have you considered how astrology plays a part in life? Do you believe in correlating the signs and spells? Read it; you will have a better understanding after you do. One to think about for awhile after you finish.
Helpful little guidebook for working with talisman's., which are a great tool when you have limited space or need something to travel with.
In depth and fascinating read. Talismanic Magic For Witches is the go to book for these kind of workings. I highly recommend this book. I read this book via Netgalley.com in exchange for my honest opinion.
Great Information
Frater Barrabbas discusses celestial and ceremonial magic in great detail. He states that in the practice of celestial magic, a septagram icon and a small portable central altar is needed. He states that tThe septagram icon is a wood plank that has a septagram (or some other star polygon) painted on it, and it is consecrated and charged after being built so that it becomes a specialized magical tool.
This book primarily discusses celestial magic, and the author suggest that readers have some basic background in astrology in order to get a deeper understanding of the information provided in this book, and be able to use an
astrological calendar to determine the relevant transit aspects, their meaning, and how they would affect one’s natal chart.
There is a lot of information in this book that would be very valuable to someone well knowledgeable and experienced in this area.
Do you use talismans? If you’re not, you’re going to want to after reading this book! But to be successful you really need to incorporate several aspects into making them so that they are has powerful as can be. This book will take you through all of that to help you make the most of talismans and your magic.
This book is a wonderful addition to Spirit Conjuring for Witches and Elemental Power for Witches. If you haven’t read those yet, add all three to your cart and empower yourself and your magic even more.
A wonderful took and guidebook for use everyday. This covers pretty much anything you could have questions about and really breaks things down for all levels of knowledge to properly use the tools provided.
The world of magic(k) is surprisingly small. When I was looking to return to Alexandrian Wicca, I had contacted a high priestess who was in Frater Barrabbas' line. However, my father passed away and I didn't return to Nevada as planned.
Some of the introductory reading she sent me was written by Frater Barrabbas and so I was familiar with his work. He is more academic in his writing than you are going to find in most witchcraft books. As such, this offering is not for the basic witch or dabbler.
If you are an academic about witchcraft or ready for more advanced types of magic, his series is amazing and highly recommended.
Can a more casual witch build up to this level? Absolutely. He isn't writing above anyone's head, but rather shows a great knowledge for the history of witchcraft, Wicca, and ceremonial magic(k).
I enjoy talismans. Learning how everyday objects can be charged with intention or purpose is fun. If you are looking for a quick and dirty way to do that, this is not the book. I rarely deal in seals or talismans of that order because I have not developed the patience for lengthy ritual. As Gypsy Ravish once observed about me, I want to practice witchcraft without the religion or rituals of Wicca. That said, I have enough of a background in witchcraft to say Talismanic Magic for Witches is a great book for any ceremonial witch or magician and his series should definitely be on the shelves for Alexandrian Wiccans..
The rites and rituals are more on par with a library that would include Josephine McCarthy. Yes, I own her books and have started reading them. No, I haven't brought myself to work through them yet. They are massive and the rituals are quite advanced at times. This book is more accessible but celestial magic can be complex. What I like most about Talismanic Witchcraft for Witches is it being a solid foray into Celestial Magic while not being overly intimidating, and those books are hard to come by.
This book by Frater Barrabbas is truly a manual for use. Everything I wondered about was covered in a logical method. The directions are meant for all levels and give examples and guidance. This book is IMO is a real effort at making anyone who want to a real Mage and begin crafting their life in a positive way. Frater B, has written something that is going to be a classic.
Finally, with full consciousness of its author, in this book is presented kinda forgotten and mostly abandoned art of astrological magic to fulfill your desires. It will greatly boost your occult knowledge and practice. For some books like epic Agrippas Occult Philosophy, this book will offer elegant keys how to put together all elements into workable rituals and offer new fresh insights into often archaic (but beautiful) Agrippas texts, or into Picatrix. Now, on the downside, with astrology one always needs to be careful (like dilemma: free will vs. blind fate and similar philosophies) and in just in few minor places Talismanic Magic for Witches is not so clear about these views. If you love astrology in fine "marriage" with magic you'll like this book.
