NetGalley ARC review.
DNF
I couldn’t get through the damn forewords…. OMG sorry but it seemed alittle unstable. And even if this is unapologetic craft, I clearly want to learn from a stable source.
This book was a very good read! I enjoyed the author's perspective on how to be unapologetically magickal. There were lots of new things I learned. I especially enjoyed learning about the digital servitor. I read this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book is a fascinating source of occult wisdom, offering insight into how to create digital servitors, use the days of the week in a magical way, manifest black holes in encounters with negative entities, and more. Additionally, Aleister Crowley's Thelemic teachings are woven throughout the essays, providing a unique flavor. While the advice is insightful, I would have appreciated more practical details for some of the topics.
I wasn’t overly impressed with this particular book. I did find some of the information useful, but some of it was just a bit too much for me, and I don’t find the author did that great of a job explaining the why behind things, just making outlandish claims with nothing to back it up.
This is more of a "standing in your power as a witch" empowerment book. There are definitely meditations as spellwork throughout the book. These tend to not be my cup of tea but I like the spell to make a coin a good luck talisman and the section on making fashion part of a magickal practice. If your craft involves meditation as magick, this would be a good read.
The author has an easy to read voice, very conversational and highly readable. I enjoyed reading, and there is a lot of information, but as always not everything is appropriate for me and my practice, but there are many lessons and exercises that I will be putting into practice.
Remarkable Book
The author states that throughout this book he has included many of his journaling and writing prompts. He, further, states that there are many ways to go through these exercises, and that readers should tailor them to fit their need best because we are all different.
Whiskey Stevens points out in this book that as we become adults we often get so involved in worldly things, which cause us to neglect our spiritual practice. He states that if we can set a small amount of time aside for our spiritual practice and our magick, we will start to see the benefits at work in all parts of our life. He states that it is important to plan our days using the magickal correspondences to the days of the week so we can use them to better create a plan for ourselves. He provides the magickal days of the week and their correspondences.
Using the magickal days, the author provides many exercises, such as creating our own map to map our own adventures, grounding exercises, and many more exercises.
The author discusses many areas of magickal practice, such as spells, rituals, curses, hexes, and many others.
I enjoyed the author's information on analyzing and alchemizing one's birth chart, stating that all is needed is:
1. A copy of your birth chart (can be found online using a chart calculator)
2. A journal or way to record your thoughts
3. Access to placement meanings (you can look this up online or, for a deep dive, you can use Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Astrology)
He provides step-by-step instructions for analyzing and alchemizing your birth chart.
This is truly a remarkable book, covering almost every imaginable area of magickal workings. I highly recommend this book to anyone, both beginners and well-reasoned practitioners, who might be interested in learning about the diversity of the craft or having this book as a great reference book.
I love Whiskey Steven’s work and have read both of her books. My favorite thing about her his how she shares her knowledge and emphasizes your individuality. If you haven’t read her first book, Rise of the Witch, you’ll want to add that to your cart as well. You won’t regret it!
Witch, you are enough! You are more than enough and you deserve to focus on yourself and all the goodness that you entail. Read this book and promise me you will love yourself as much as you love anyone or anything else in this World! xoxo
With theory and practice how to create digital servitor, how to use days of the week in a magical way, how to manifest "black hole" in an encounter with negative entities and much more, this book is surely a very interesting source of occult wisdom. Plus, to these essays, flavour of Aleister Crowley's Thelemic teachings is added. There are some very insightful advices given here, though I would love to see more of practical details for some of it. Okay book!
Whiskey Stevens has written a very practical and positive manual for positive change in a way that IMO will ring true for those that are looking for a structured path. As I read this book I looked at what my needs for the future would be. Then I crafted some ideas as a blueprint for success. Next I am following the instructions given by Whiskey and noticing a change. This book is really excellent ! All levels and backgrounds IMO will benefit from this book.
