Great Tarot Meaning

Ru-Lee Story does a fantastic job in presenting the meaning of each card in both, the Major Arcana Cards. I love the fact that the author also provides affirmations, ideas for reflection, and in some instances suggesting individuals should reach reach out to other individuals who are going through similar situations.

I love this book, and will definitely recommend it for reference.

I’ve read quite a few tarot books, to the point where most of them tend to blend together in my mind. So how very pleasantly surprised I was to discover Your Tarot Toolkit and its unique approach to expanding upon the usual meanings/reflections for the Tarot’s 78 cards.

This is not a classic “learn to read tarot” book, in that not a lot of time is spent actually discussing the traditional meaning of each card. Instead, the reader is encouraged to explore the different energies of the cards through thinking points and various activities. The approach is gentle and self-affirming.

The book is divided into Major and Minor Arcana; the Minors are organised by suit. Each card is given a brief introduction, followed by a series of corresponding affirmations, always with the pattern “I AM…”, “I CAN”, and “I WILL…”. This is followed by Reflections - a selection of self-directed questions guiding the reader in an exploration of how the themes of the card might be present in various aspects of their own life. Finally, there are suggested activities allowing opportunity for creative embodiment of the archetypes. Each activity has an assigned “Effort Level” (rated from one to five) and include some different ideas that aren’t usually found in a tarot guide, along with a few old favourites. There are also many opportunities for journaling and list-making. I especially appreciated the fact that Major and Minor Arcana cards receive the same attention and number of pages.

The author’s voice is friendly without being glib, and they really hit the sweet spot of sharing enough personal experience to make the text feel relatable, without making it all about them. The book takes great care to remain inclusive, encouraging every reader to engage in the exercises in a way that best fits their current ability/energy level.

The only negative point for me is the total absence of the esoteric/occult aspects of tarot, though I realise that that might actually be a positive point for some potential readers.

Your Tarot Toolkit is a great book for anyone looking to go beyond the basic guidebook meanings of tarot and start to get a deeper understanding of the cards. I recommend this book without hesitation to beginner and intermediate tarot enthusiasts.

This is a fantastic book for anyone just beginning their tarot journey and wanting a good understanding of each specific card. I'm a beginner myself and found this to be so helpful, I'll definitely get a physical copy so I can have it on hand to reference when I need it.

Thanks so much NetGalley and Llewellyn Worldwide for the arc!

This one was very nice, if you're trying to be more insightful with your tarot, this book it's amazing for that.

If you're of the practice of taking a card for the day so you can get insight in your day, this has affirmations, reflections and thing you can do in your day depending on the card you got that day.

You will encounter major and minor arcana in this one so it's super complete, totally recommended if you're striving towards a little more spiritual or order in your practice.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book.

The author uses tarot decks for meditation and mindfulness more than for witchcraft purposes. Also, they don't use reversals when reading tarot so it does make things easier.

The focus of the book is on interpreting daily card pulls. While gendered names such as The Emperess and Emperor are used, the author writs that those names are used so the audience can follow along but the summaries utilize they/them pronouns. I loved this approach since I don't really see The Emperess as strictly female/feminine/woman or any other gendered card. The court cards are presented differently since they're treated differently during readings. In these cases, the author uses fictional characters to demonstrate meaning.

The card pages have a summary, affirmations (am, can, will), reflection questions, and two actions you can do with varying energy levels given. The information given is some of the best reflection work I've read. All the others seem to be too abstract for me while this is pretty grounded.

There are works cited and further reading lists at the end.

Overall, this is definitely a reference book. I think it would be best used in conjunction with the guidebook provided with the tarot deck.

Immediately on the first page of this book, I knew I was going to love it. Right off the bat the author mentions non-binary, and also openly spoke about secular and spiritual readers, both of which being valid. We stan.

This book was certainly a fantastic read, and if you're new to tarot, or even if you're more versed, you could get a lot out of it. The focus of the book was primarily on one card readings, but you can certainly take the knowledge you gain here and expand it as you grow in your tarot journey.

The author has such a laid back attitude, open mind, and calming approach to the cards. I appreciate that they read in a similar manner that I do, where they view each card as having positive and negative attributes, yes, even the Tower or the 10 of Cups. We both also don't read reversals for the same reason, so that was a fun way to connect more with the author and the book. (Of course the author mentions reading reversals is totally valid! They just wanted to explain their perspective.)

I love how everything is laid out. Each card comes with: an explanation with examples to really get the meaning across (the courts have characters to relate them to), three affirmations (am, can, will), reflection/journal questions, and two activities you can do thematically related to the card.

The activities and reflection questions offer a wide range of options and ideas of how to approach them, making them possible for most any reader. I really appreciated seeing the extra touches in making the book more accessible to a wider audience. (And not only that, but moods too! If you're having a tough day and can't do the full activity, the author provides ideas for how to do just a little, whatever you have the energy for. It works in a multitude of ways!)

"If the Tower is crumbling, it may mean the structure was decaying and needed to come down anyway."

I love that this book doubles as a self-help book as well, definitely lives up to the 'toolkit' name, giving you plenty of ideas to help yourself better your life, no matter your circumstances. The little touches of the author giving examples about their life as well I think added a lot of depth too. (Also made things more relatable, and as someone with similar life experiences, it meant a lot to read!) Honestly, you don't even need a deck to get started with this book. All these activities and reflection questions could be done without one. So if you haven't yet had the chance to get a deck, this book is still totally useable!

I'm definitely very glad I was able to read this. No one book or resource is the end-all-be-all for tarot (or anything, imo), but this one isn't a bad place to start! Plus the author does leave suggestions for further reading, which was also great to see. If you're a fan of tarot, I say check this one out!

Notes for the author:
-For some reason the Kindle version had an issue with images, all of them were solid black and didn't load. Not sure why, but thought to mention it just in case, since this is an ARC.
-Spelling errors on page 24 under "What is one thing I can do to take better care of myself."
Under 'Two of Wands': "Taawo of Wands".
Page 149 under 'Hydrate' with "drink the 'right' about" instead of "amount".
-Spacing errors on page 41 (under "Start a Pride Journal"), and 66 ("strongest personality trait").
-Looks like different font settings were used in the last paragraph of the Kind of Cups.
-Some of the first letters of the card pages seem cut off..

There are so many books offering to help read tarot cards. Sometimes they are so overwhelming that people give up. This book is more focused on a single card draw that allows you to focus on each of the cards individually. This is a good approach for those new to tarot and builds on a solid foundation before moving on to multi card spreads and bringing a broader reading together.

If you are focused on learning the tarot, this is a good book to start with. You'll be glad that you started off with a single card focus and mastered it before moving un. Blessing to you as you start, or building on, your journey.

I have been working to expand my Tarot knowledge recently and was very excited when I saw this available & had to request it. I really enjoyed how unique this book was and how it stood out from the rest! This is an excellent guide to help someone understand Tarot better!

I had hopes that this would be a good workbook/tool to use with the path of Tarot.
This has to be one of the worst Tarot books I have seen, the little booklet that comes with a standard deck is better.

Most Tarot books are the same format and content but not this one! I really enjoyed the affirmations as well as the effort levels for every action. As a disabled person it meant a lot to see the accessibility. Highly recommend and I will definitely be purchasing a copy for myself.
