I want to thank netgally for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love hockey and romances so this one was easy to request. I had great expectations.

You follow the lives of professional hockey player Mitch Frambough and his relationship with headhunter Lexie Monroe. They have been ‘on’ for about two years even though Lexie Monroe was hesitant to get too involved. Once they start taking things serious they have a huge fight and the next day Mitch gets traded and completely want to restart his life and ghosts everyone who lives in Detroit. As fate would have it they end up being in the same city, due to a career ending injury for Mitch. As Mitch tries to make face in Detroit and rebuild relationships, will he and Lexie connect again or will their anger keep them apart.

I enjoyed this book. It took me a while to read, though that was just because my life was so hectic. Whenever I picked up this book it was quick and easy to read and I didn’t realize I had just read 20 pages. However, I do feel that some of the writing was juvenile even though it was meant to be a hot and steamy book. The character development was good, and there were a lot of characters for Amanda Chaperon to keep relevant in the book and I think she did a really good job doing that.

I do give this one a 3/5 because it made sense, there weren’t any storylines that didn’t have a conclusion and it was quickly and easy to read. After doing research I saw this was book 2 of the ‘For the Boys’ series, but don’t let that stop you from giving this one a read because I didn’t read the first and enjoyed the second one.

On The Line by Amanda Chaperon
Rating: 3 stars
Steam: 3 chilis

On The Line is the second book in the For The Boys series, and I was super excited to read it! I love a good hockey romance, and this one seemed to have everything I was looking for. Mitch and Lexie meet at a party and become inseparable pretty quickly. A terrible misunderstanding drives them apart, only for fate to bring them back together two years later.

This is an emotional, second-chance romance that drew me in right away. For the first half of the book, I genuinely couldn’t put it down! Mitch is a professional hockey player, and Lexie is a successful head hunter, which I thought was a unique and exciting job choice. These two had great chemistry, and things got pretty steamy right away. I loved the dual POV and the flashbacks to the past showing us how the characters got to where they are in the present.

This book is also full of likable characters, supportive friendships, and witty banter. The spice was top-tier, and I loved seeing the character growth of both Lexie and Mitch throughout the story.

There are a few reasons that this was three stars and not higher. The entire story is based on a pretty serious miscommunication, and the reactions that Lexie and Mitch had to the situation felt incredibly unrealistic. Another challenge for me was the length of the book. It felt like the author had a specific word count she was trying to get to, and because of this, it started to get repetitive. The MCs continued to rehash plot points that we were already well acquainted with, going over their breakup repeatedly, discussing Lexie’s bad behavior constantly, etc.

There are also a LOT of characters in this story, and I started to lose track of who we were talking about. I did not read For the Boys, so maybe if I had, I would have been more familiar with the characters.

The drama in this book is cranked up to eleven, and there’s a lot of a “will they, won’t they” push and pull between the MCs that got to be too much after a while. By the 75% mark, I was skimming until the end.

Overall, this book was okay. I want to read more from this author because I like her writing style, she writes emotion really well, and she also writes great steam! Thank you so much to Netgalley and the author for the review copy.

I liked the actual writing style of the book, that's the only thing positive I have to say. Lexi was so annoying because the whole book from her pov she said that she had messed up but when Mitch apologized she acted like she didn't do anything wrong. Also they didn't even meet face to face in the present until 70 percent through the book, which made it boring. It also kept saying that they were acting like they were dating but all we were shown was them having sex so it didn't make sense.

This book is for my Hockey Romance lovers out there. This goes between the timelines of past and present. I LOVED this book. I flew through it and it made me feel like I was reading something by Elle Kennedy. Mitch and Lexi have a past and seeing how it blossomed and re-blossom again was just so heartwarming. After a bad accident, Mitch ends up back home with not being able to play hockey anymore. The old friend group gets back together. It’s hard for both of them. It’s a second chance romance that is a slow burn. It was slow at some parts, but I enjoyed reading it. Sometimes I was annoyed with Lexi and her choices but overall, a great read.

Thank you to Netgalley for the Arc!

I did not like this book, I was so annoyed at the MMCs through out the book, I felt like I should just enter the pages and smack them!
📖📖
I love Second Chance trope, I was looking forward to this book and I was disappointed.
📖📖
Mitch and Lexie broke up for the silliest reason and instead of them to fight for each, both of them just gave up.
📖📖
Another thing that annoyed we was how Lexie was regarded an Independent woman and Mitch was blamed for the breakup throughout the book. What's the purpose of being independent woman if you can't fight who you love?
Since the beginning of the book, Mitch was the one fighting for the relationship and persuading Lexie, it's normal for a guy to get tired when Lexie won't even fight for him. Although Lexie has some abandonment issues, it still doesn't justify not fighting for her love.
📖📖
If I fell in love with someone and I know that the said person is also in love with me, I'll fight with all I have until I'm sure there's nothing else I can do. Both of the MMCs didn't do this
📖📖
I really wanted to enjoy this book, but it was difficult to do so because of the annoying characters
📖📖
You might be wondering why I gave this book 3 stars while I was so annoyed. The only thing I didn't like were the characters, the storyline was okay.
Just because I didn't like it doesn't mean you won't, so you can still try it.

"On the Line" was my first book from Amanda Chaperon. This is book two in a companion series. I was expecting to be able to read it as a standalone, but that is not the case with "On the Line". Almost every chapter references the first book. So much so that it overshadows the couple in book two, Lexie and Mitch.

I love the emotional conflict that Lexie has of letting people in. I'm a complete sucker for that conflict and always gravitate towards book with it. However, in "On the Line", I had mixed feelings about it. For the most part, Lexie's emotional conflict and how Mitch handled it was amazing. I loved all of those scenes of them in the past. EXCEPT for the whole premise of the book--their big fight that caused them to break up.

I hated the break up. It felt a little forced and it felt like it wouldn't/shouldn't have happened, at least not with the details the reader is given. I wished we could have seen scenes of Mitch having genuine trouble getting Lexie to open up to him before this happened. As their relationship was building, they would have problems that would be worked out within ten minutes. I feel like if I were to really believe that Mitch was done having to try to convince her to be with him, then there should have been more complicated/difficult arguments taking place in their relationship and maybe even small/quick break ups here and there. The author tried to tell the reader that Lexie and Mitch were both at fault for the breakup, but it was clear through the writing that even the author believed it was Mitch's fault.

I really liked Lexie and her support group/friends through this book. The only things keeping me from really enjoying the book were the breakup, the unnecessary secondary storylines (Amelia), and how Mitch acted throughout some parts (untrustworthy, Kiera, etc.)

I loved this book. The entire cast of characters were amazing. I loved the back and forth between past and present. If anything, I was just losing track of how past was past, but overall it blended together beautifully. It has just the right amount of angst that I was hoping to get. It also had the perfect mix of sport to romance ratio which was a plus. It def did hurt with the slow burn as they reconnected but was worth it in the end. This book also was pretty spicy, gotta say. Def wasn't expecting it but whew . Anywho, I loved it!!

I love a good hockey romance book. This one was filled with lots of drama, fighting for the one you love and lots of spice! Thank you to Amanda Chaperon and Netgalley for access to an advanced copy of the book in return for an honest review!

I dove into this book from the start, the drama and the spice really hooked me. I am also engaged to a huge hockey fan so hockey is always a preferred sports topic. I fell for the instant love connection between Lexie and Mitch, and the powerful vibe between them. Everything spirals out of control and as a reader you're slowly getting bits and pieces of the back story. I think what made this one a 3.5 for me was the amount of back story and how much of a slow burn the novel ended up being. I really stuck it out for the characters though! Berkley and Lexie have a great friendship and it was worth reading for them alone. I'm just not used to such slow-burn novels, and I assume that's why I found it hard to push through near the end.

This novel overall is really good, and I am excited to read others by Amanda!

The cover and blurb of this book caught my attention as soon as I saw it and since I've read the first book in the series, I decided to give this a try. Mitch & Lexi had so much sexual tension and chemistry but I honestly failed to get their connection. I felt like their relationship was more on the sexual side rather than feelings tbh. Mitch was likeable and honestly he was less at fault than Lexi. Lexi was unreasonable which made her look like a b*tch ngl. The only parts I liked about the book were some swoony quotes, Mitch's friend group and the setting. So, it was a 2.75 star read at it's best for me.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review

This felt very much like a low-stakes read, even at the most pivotal moments. I was invested in their relationship but it also felt like the intensity wasn’t as hard-earned as they both seemed to think it was? But I liked the tables turning later down the line. I did really enjoy them both and enjoyed their friends almost even more.

On the Line
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Romance
Format: Kindle eBook

Author: Amanda Chaperon

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Amanda Chaperon and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

⚠️ TRIGGER WARNINGS: Please note this book contains an alcoholic parent, traumatic injury, using alcohol and sex as a bandaid for emotional pain, emotionally unavailable parents/issues of abandonment, strong language, and explicit sex.

My Thoughts: Generally, I am not a hockey fan, however, this book has made me a hockey fan. This is the second book in the For the Boys series, but can absolutely be read as a standalone, however, the characters are further explored in the first book. The story of Mitch and Lexi is a story of love, loss, pain, growth, and healing. I had so many emotions reading this book, from frustration, sadness, happiness, and pure joy. The story is narrated by both Mitch and Lexi, in an alternating timeline of before and now.

Lexi is flawed, strong, fiercely independent, and grew up not feeling loved. Mitch is loyal to a fault, strong, compassionate, and kind. They both have a traumatic past, in different ways. They love each other. They hate each other. They deeply desire each other. Yet, they push each other away. The characters were fleshed out more in this second book, with depth, witty banter, swoony, amazing chemistry, and creatively explored. The author’s writing style was complex, multifaceted, steamy, spicy, and just brilliant.

Chaperon is a master at writing Romance. While Chaperon’s debut book was amazing, this one was even better! This book has all the feels. Their story shattered my heart but slowing put the pieces back together. The character development was amazing. The plot was delivered effortlessly. The ending was beyond anything I could have imagined. I highly recommend picking up this book next week when it releases!

I wanted to give On the Line 5 stars so bad, but the flashbacks held me back (I honestly hate them with a passion lol)

But my god... The longing and the angst between Lexie and Mitch made me an absolute emotion wreck while binging this book, and I still don't think I've recovered. There is so much hurt and trauma in these two, and it killed me to see them crash and burn the way they did. Thankfully we get a hea and there was plenty of spice to heal my wounds lol

This was great and I am 100% a huge fan of Amanda Chaperon now

Wow, was this book steamy! And it got straight down to business from the beginning. At first I thought that I couldn't connect with the story or the characters but the structure of the book turned out to be really brilliant. As I got to learn more about what was happening now and what had happened before I became really invested in the story and could understand the main characters and their actions a whole lot better. This book broke my heart and then put it back together again. ❤

This was my first book by Amanda Chaperon but I have a feeling it won't be my last - thank you so much for the ARC!

I couldn't put this book down! I wanted to know all about Mitch and Lexie! It was a little tough keeping up with the flashbacks but it was worth the read! I am definitely going to read the first book in the series! I didn't even realize it was part of a series! She did an excellent job with the hockey aspect-it didn't overtake the storyline. Lexie's background was well written and her growth was amazing to see!

I loved this book. I follow the podcast of this author and it is one of my favorites (HEAs and Heartbreaks). This book did not disappoint. It was an easy read with characters who I fell in love with. It was fantastic and I cannot wait to read the next book from Ms. Chaperon.

It was my first time reading Amanda Chaperon and it won't be my last. On the Line is a second chance romance that's full of angst, tugs at your heartstrings, and steamy.

This sports romance has a heroine who has experienced so much emotional damage and a hero who is a star hockey player. Mitch and Lexie had steamy chemistry and they both didn't think it would be more than sex. But they have a once in a lifetime bond and connection. They fall in love and really understand each other. After an amazing year together, life decides to intervene. Lexie tries to break it off because their relationship is getting too real and is scared that she won't recover if they ever break up. Mitch doesn't take this well and in that same week he learns that he had been traded. This might be the fresh start he needs. So, he just leaves without telling anyone and cuts off communication from Lexi and their friends.

A year has passed and they still think about each other. Everyone close to them knows they are hurting but Lexie and Mitch choose to stay apart. Things change when mitch gets injured. Lexie feels horrible and is ready to take a step to visit him but he rejects her. Is this the final straw for them?

Throughout the book you see their inner struggles with themselves. They convince themselves that they can't move forward from their past mistakes so they just continue to hurt in silence. Thanks to their group of friends they slowly start to find their way back to each other.

You really feel for Mitch and Lexie. There is so much hurt they caused and shared but it was caused by their fears. They have to decide if they can move past those fears and let themselves experience the love they deserve.

I give On the Line 5 stars. If you enjoy a sports romance and second-chance tropes, you will adore this book! I love when you feel connected to characters and root for them and I felt like this the entire time I was reading. I'm so excited to read more of the author's books!!

I really enjoyed this one! I love a good second chance romance. This one was full of angst and I loved the development with the characters. Mitch was so loyal to the people he loved and was a fantastic MMC. Not to mention the fact that he’s a hot pro hockey player! Swoon! Lexie had a lot of stuff to work through with her parents being less than ideal. I loved the dual timelines in this one as well! Great read.

Review:I have to say I really am a sucker for a second chance love. And giving someone who deserves it a second chance I do it in my every day life is it’s no surprise I am all for it when it comes to my books. A disclaimer I did NOT read the first book, I knew it was a part of a series but knowing that I still wanted to jump into the second book and I have to say I don’t think I missed anything lexie and Mitch were perfectly placed in front of you and you were very easily able to figure out that they were meant to be together. I don’t think I needed to read the first one to feel this way ( not that you should you should absolutely read her other books.) I’m just saying I wasn’t lost at all and I liked how this book was basically them getting back to each other . Even thought … Lexie come one you took way to long and blamed way to much on her past it started to get very repetitive I wanted her to give in sooner! But with all that I really enjoyed this book.
I also love books about hockey players.
My stars are based on how Lexie just kept annoyingly going back to her past and her parents I thought they could of cut some of that out.

"It had been game over for her.
That he would be the one to make her believe in something again. That he would be the one to make her believe she was someone who could be loved, and love in return."

Lexie Monroe doesn't do love. At least not until Mitch Frambough entered the picture. After months and months of "casual" hookups, Lexie finally let her walls down and let herself fall in love with him. When everything went up in flames and Mitch was traded to Los Angeles, she was left broken all over again.

Finally picking pieces of herself up and working on moving on months after their breakup, Mitch moves back to Detroit. Now she has to decide if she's willing to try again.

Second chance romance has slowly started to grow on me as a trope that I really do love and look forward to. This book fell somewhere in the middle of a good execution of that. There was definitely a lot of angst and pain between these two, but there was not NEARLY enough of the "second" romance. I don't think these two interacted in present time until probably 75% of the way through the book. Typically I love a good slow burn, but this book felt like there was no progress in their characters or relationship because they didn't even talk up until then. Once they finally did interact, I did enjoy their interactions and strives to move forward. There just was not enough of it for my preferences.

I tried so hard to like Lexie. I 100% understand why she feels the way she does about love and it is valid, but she was so self destructive for nearly all the book. I think that even with her trauma and pain, she needed to take more accountability for her roles in what went down. For the way she was broken over him leaving, I wish there was more depth to their relationship. I feel like they went from super hot and horny for each other to, okay let's admit we love each other, to crashing and burning. Then we jump a year, they're still broken but want to be together. I couldn't really connect to them as much as I wanted to.

Overall not a bad read. There were some cute moments and smutty scenes, but the book needed more depth for me! I'm curious to see what else Amanda Chaperon puts out. I definitely enjoyed the plotline and it had a lot of potential.

Thank you Netgalley and Amanda Chaperon for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I really struggled with the characters and how long it took before we actually get to see them interact in modern day. Overall, this one isn't bad - it just didn't work for me.
