My thanks to Penguin Group/Putnam, John Sandford and Netgalley.
This is my second Letty book, and I don't mind telling y'all that it's much better than the first!
I'm not sure if Sanford decided to drop us all in the middle of Letty's life and assume that we would be gung-ho with the little we knew of her from Davenport books or not.
Far as I'm concerned, an author should never assume.
Yeah, I'm still fucking mad as hell that I've lost Virgil! But then he's replaced by Lettie?
Lettie is an o.k. character. Believe it or not, I do like her. Sandford should have let us ease into her. But no. It's balls to the wall.
Letty is too advanced in skills for her age. If this was fantasy or horror then I would find it more believable. It's not, and I don't.
My biggest problem with the last book was all the gun stuff. Talk guns, car engines or mathematics and my mind finds itself wandering. Thankfully, this book was "slightly" less.
I liked this book much more than the first, and I guess I might read the next. That is the one that will be the deciding factor for me.

I am enjoying getting to know of Letty Davenport. She is one strong, smart woman!
Lots of action in Dark Angel.
I wasn’t overly thrilled with the “fat” shaming going on by Letty towards Baxter. Why was it even part of the story?
The storyline was intriguing but it did seem to be dragged out more than necessary.
All in all, a suspenseful read with a thriller aspect.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

John Sandford books are always such a quick, fun read. I liked this Letty book MUCH better than the last. The female lead was more believable this time, and with a cast of characters I really enjoyed. Fast-paced, smart thriller with, as always, lots of action.

Dark Angel by John Sanford coincides with much of what is happening in the world today. Letty Davenport fights for the right thing to do in this thriller.

Dark Angel, by author John Sanford, is the second installment in the authors Letty Davenport series. Letty Davenport, the tough-as-nails adopted daughter of Lucas Davenport, who appeared regularly in the authors Prey series, takes on an undercover assignment that brings her across the country and into the crosshairs of a dangerous group of hackers. Letty is an inspector for the Inspector General of the Department of Homeland Security, while also working for US Senator Christopher Colles of Florida. Letty Davenport’s days working a desk job at are behind her.

Her previous actions at a gunfight in Pershing, Texas—and her incredible skills with firearms, has drawn the attention of several branches of the US government, and makes her a perfect fit for even more dangerous work. She also gets a unique invitation to join a group of Women, including Jane Longstreet, and Barbara Cartwright, who have been around the block a time or two, and who have survived using their skills, and of course, their guns. Most of the women are either military trained or specialized law enforcement or consultants.

After all, Letty has a rather impressive body count to her name from the time she was an orphan, to her time in Pershing. The Department of Homeland Security and the NSA have tasked her with infiltrating a hacker group, known only as Ordinary People, that is intent on wreaking havoc. The NSA tells her the hackers are nosing around natural gas distribution systems and they think the group intends to shut down the natural gas supply of a northern city in a ransomware attack which could, in the dead of winter, cause civilian fatalities.

Letty and her reluctant partner from the NSA, Rod Baxter, pose as free-spirited programmers for hire and embark on a cross country road trip to the group’s California headquarters. While the two work to make inroads with Ordinary People and uncover their plans, they begin to suspect that the hackers are not their only enemy. Someone within their own circle may have betrayed them, and has ulterior motives that place their mission—and their lives—in grave danger.

To make matters even more dangerous, there are Russians involved. Russians who are targeting the Ordinary People who hacked into their network and caused major troubles which now that Russia is on the cusp of invading Ukraine, needs to be taken care quickly. Letty takes after Lucas in several ways including her proficiency and knowledge of guns and her love of fashion. Baxter is somewhat stereotyped in the beginning of the novel, but he's the character who experiences the most dramatic changes in attitude and outlook as the story unfolds. Baxter is not your typical good looking, athletic hero like Letty's partner, Kaiser. Nope, he’s overweight, hairy and not an agent who's spent any time in the field.

I enjoy reading stories by Sanford. He challenges readers to suspend belief in most areas, but in this case, if hackers really could bring Russia to a standstill, and prevent a war between the US, China and their new friends in Moscow, so be it. After all, Chinese hackers, as well as Russian and North Koreans, have been compromising our military and infrastructure for years. It is time to rally some good White Hate Hackers to fight back and save our country.

Dark Angel is the second book in the Lettie Davenport series. I have not read the first book. This is an action-packed story. The plot uses issues from today's global political situations. I struggled with the writing and found it difficult to follow. There were too many in depth descriptions that bogged down the story for me.

This is the second book featuring Davenport's daughter, Letty. In this story, the DHS and the NSA send Letty undercover with a hacker sidekick to infiltrate a hacker group. The job turns out to be a bit more than expected with a lot of different groups that seem to be interfering and takes on a dangerous bent.

I love the character of Letty and her pairing with Baxter is brilliant. He is not what he seems, just a guy who is great with computers. His coming around to some of the more interesting aspects of Letty's skills is fun to watch. There are other interesting characters introduced that I would love to see show up in future books.

At first, I thought the story would not hold my interest as computer talk and hackers are not my thing, but before I knew it, I was totally engrossed in the adventure and could not put the book down.

Thank you G.P. Putnam's Sons and NetGalley for the early read!

John Sandford has created another thriller series--this time it's a spinoff from his long-running Lucas Davenport thrillers and features Lucas's daughter, Letty. In Dark Angel, book #2 in the series, Letty been working for a Florida senator named Colles but has been drafted for some undercover work by the Department of Homeland Security. She and a computer geek named Rod Baxter from NSA will try to infiltrate a hacker group named Ordinary People who have been rumored to be planning a serious ramsonware attack. Right from the start, Letty and Rob have a feeling they've been lied to...and what they don't know could get them killed.

Very exciting action with some of Sandford's trademark humor mixed in. Letty's early life before being adopted by Lucas was seriously crazy but has it prepared her for what she's facing now? If you are looking for an absorbing novel of adventure and escapism, you cannot go wrong with a John Sandford thriller!

I received an arc of his latest thriller from the author and publisher. Many thanks for the opportunity! My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.

Dark Angel is the second in a new series by John Sandford featuring Letty Davenport. She is an undercover agent working for a secret division of the CIA. Letty is assigned to track down a computer hacking group and stop them before they turn off the natural gas supply in the northern United States during the winter months. As we follow Letty and her team, the story takes on additional issues and becomes an international problem, that takes Letty and her team into very dangerous conflict.

Fans of Mitch Rapp, John Reacher, and the Gray Man series will enjoy this set of female undercover agents who are just as tough and daring as their male counterparts. Be sure to pick this one up. You will not be disappointed.

Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to receive an early copy of Dark Angel in exchange for an honest review.

4.25 Stars 🌟

I am a huge fan of Mr. Sandford and of the Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers spinoffs. I was excited about this new spinoff with Letty Davenport, but after the first book, I wasn't so sure I would continue onward. Well, let me say that this book definitely redeemed itself and changed my opinion of the series.

In the first book - to me- Letty just felt "too perfect." She was arrogant, could shoot amazingly, could fight, could crack cases...to just name a few traits. All of this as a young recent college graduate. It just didn't really feel "realistic" to me.

In this book, she is still pretty awesome, but awesome in a way that better belies her age and experience.

I enjoyed this book. There was non-stop action, some really wonderful secondary characters, and a plot that kept you interested until the very end.

So count me as a fan of this series too. I am now looking forward to whatever is next for her :)

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. The opinions above are mine and mine alone.

Dark Angel by John Sandford is a fast moving entertaining novel that Sandford is known for. Letty is told she has to go to LA and deal with some hackers set on infiltrating a natural gas pipeline. It is only after she puts her team together that she realizes she has been duped by her boss and the real assignment is to talk the hackers into disrupting the Russian invasion into Ukraine by hacking into the train routes, thereby sabotaging the Russian supply lines. In true form, Letty takes after her father, Lucas with her expertise with firearms, which brings her to the attention of many different government agencies and makes her the ideal candidate for this mission. Readers familiar with Sandford novels will appreciate Letty's references to Lucas and her back story, as well as her similarity to Lucas' work ethic. It's been fun watching Letty grow up.

Dark Angel is a fast paced action packed undercover investigation that leads with a very interesting look into Lettys lifestyle but isn't really relevant to the story line. Which could be pulled any day from the headlines you will see personal growth for Letty who is a alpha female take charge kind of woman and the introduction of some new characters to the series. For me the last few chapters made this book as it was full of intrigue and danger action and constant plot twist so this book is for you if you like strong women nerdy men and international espionage that involves the whole alphabet. I received a ARC copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Letty goes on an undercover assignment dealing with a group of hackers. The team that Letty heads up is made up of government agencies responsible for Homeland Security but feel like their respective agency can lead properly. Sandford does a good job of mixing agencies but did not do as well on leadership. He also did a great job of laying the groundwork for the U.S. hackers to take control of the operating system of Russian railroads and their movements toward a potential war with Ukraine. I believe that there were too many room changes in hotels that added little to the mission and bogged down the story line. I also believe that there were too many characters introduced toward the end of the story. John Sandford is a favorite author of mine, but I did not feel Dark Angel was one of his better works.

I have to admit, I was not the biggest fan of The Investigator, but OH MY!, I loved this second adventure of Letty Davenport. As many television shows used to claim, this story could be straight from the headlines, but we'd never know. Everything about this book captivated me from page one and it didn't stop until I finished the last word. John Sandford brought many of the characteristics of Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers into the character of Letty and it was phenomenal. The story is set right before the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and involves a motley crew of computer hackers and other interesting people. The characters were realistic and engaging. There was plenty of the action you would expect from Sandford and enough edge-of-your-seat suspense that kept me guessing how this would all wrap up. I was not disappointed. Letty is a fresh take on a thrilling character and she has quickly become one of my favorite Sandford characters. Cannot wait to see where she ends up next.

4.5 rounded up
I've always loved Letty in the Prey novels. She has grown up to Bevan incredibly smart, competent and talented young woman.

I love her with Baxter, much better than eith Kaiser.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Letty Davenport is definitely growing as a character and I enjoyed this book more than the last. In this adventure, she is working for a U.S. Senator and is closely tied to Homeland Security. She and a partner are sent to infiltrate a group of computer hackers who may be planning disruptive activities in the U.S. As they get further into the plot, they discover the hackers have experience with disrupting train routes in Russia which leads to a very timely story based on current events. This was a fast-paced page turner and I'm looking forward to more adventures with Letty and the characters she picks up throughout the story. Thank you to Net Galley for letting me review this entertaining book.

Yes! Letty is really starting to come into her own in book 2!! Great story(although parts of it did drag), great characters (I especially like the ladies gun club and can't wait to see more them in the future), great character development (Letty!!!).

I am so excited for this series to continue. I absolutely love it!!!

Thank you #netgalley and #PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons for the eARC.

I always liked Letty and her sassiness in the Prey books and was excited when Sandford spun her off for her own series of books. Unfortunately, this one didn't do it for me and I can't exactly pinpoint what bugged me so much. I get the feeling that there was just too much that he tried to do to make her a badass when she already was. The gun club thing felt wrong to me and the middle was a bit slow, though I do still find Letty herself a good protagonist and I liked that he tried to load the book with female characters, I just found the writing around them a bit choppy at times. I will continue to read this series and hope that Sandford settles more into this character as she develops. Thank you to G.P. Putnam and Sons and NetGalley for the early copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Another action packed installment in the Letty Davenport series!

This book takes place just before and during the initial stages of Russian’s invasion of Ukraine, and focuses on how the US helps to interrupt Russia’s plans via cyberattacks. The plot is intricate and technical, lots of great gun play by Letty and her colleagues. Interesting look into hacking and how much cyberattacks can disrupt.

Looking forward to the next book in this series to see where Letty ends up next.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

I’m really enjoying this series. Fast paced with great one liners. Letty & Cartwright are total bada$$ heroines. And I love Kaiser. I’m looking forward to more in this series.
