A fun and cute romance. This book made me think about my phone and social media usage through a lighthearted lens. A quick and enjoyable read.
3-3.25 stars
I had higher expectations for this book. I was excited to read a story that focused on influencers and their personal life but something fell flat for me. While I enjoyed most of it, there were parts of it that were a let down. I was expecting more romance and romcom banter between the two MCs. I wouldn't market this book as a romance book. Overall it's a cute quick read for wkend reading.
I like that the book had the characters grow in this story but I would like more romance. It was a good book and I enjoyed it.
I would have liked this book better if it didn't bill itself as a romance. The romance was practically non-existent, and it was hard to see the chemistry. I did like Cat and the commentary about influencers and social media.
This was not my first Melissa Ferguson book so I thought I knew what to expect, but I was not prepared for this book. This book made me think about my life and my use of social media. It was the ultimate Instagram vs. reality wake-up call.
Cat Cranwell is a famous influencer who gets caught up in bad publicity from her business partner. Cat wants to escape her life in New York and goes to work in a National Park with her uncle. Cat is not well-prepared for the living conditions, but she is warming up to Zaiah who knows nothing about social media. Zaiah and Cat both learn from one another, and Cat finds who she is without having to make everything "Instagram worthy".
This book is very lighthearted, but it didn’t really feel like a romance book. The aspect behind the book is a good read but the characters feel kind of dry. However, them helping each other grow made the book special.
What happens to an Instagram influencer when the internet learns she might not be as perfect as her posts? Cat Cranwell goes from millions of followers to being "shunned" online after getting mixed up with the wrong business deal. She takes her Uncle Terry's job proposition at her best friend's suggestion and leaves New York for the snowy world of Kannery National Park in Montana. Trying to adjust to a world outside of her phone, she begins to enjoy all the little moments that happen around her. Her eyes eventually open to Zaiah Hudson and how he is so different from all the other men in her life. Their relationship slowly turns from amicable to friends to a committed relationship. Throughout that time, we see Cat transform from a social media addict to creating healthy boundaries and being more involved in life.
Melissa Ferguson wrote a wintery wonderland-filled book with unique experiences and quaint small hometown characters. She includes a little picture at the beginning of each chapter, which helped make the chapter come to life. This book was a quick and easy read that transported me into Montana and the fun that can be had. I go into a rom-com knowing the couple will end up together, but Melissa's adventure to love was great!
Meh. Just meh, really! I tried so hard to love this. Perhaps it's a me thing but I'm so over influencers getting their down to earth, literal, moment.
I appreciate the opportunity to read this one, but it did not work for me. Everything felt forced, and overly just not enticing.
Thank you to the publishers for the opportunity.
Famous for a Living by Melissa Ferguson
Cat Cranwell is living the social media influencer life dream in NYC until a deal goes wrong and she is blamed for it all. Cat decides to go work for her Uncle in the small Kannery National Park until the dust dies down. Will she be able to help the struggling park while also fixing her own social image? Read this book to find out!
This was such a cute romance and it was well written. I love that it makes you ponder your phone habits and social media usage. I really enjoyed this story and recommend you give it a read.

Another good book from Melissa Ferguson!
In this story, we follow the life changes of socialite Cat Cranwell, when everything she takes for granted disappears.
As the media turns against her, Cat has to take some time away from the city and goes to Kannery National Park, where her uncle lives.
This book is full of fun, as expected when a city girl goes into the snowy mountains. But also because of the well-spirited characters Melissa created for us.
Cat starts to rebrand herself while working on making the park more attractive to get more tourists to visit.
We have the beautiful scenery descriptions, the friendship between the park workers, and the banter between Cat and Zaiah - I loved reading about these two.
One of my favorite aspects of this story was reading and understanding the differences in Cat‘s perspectives about the world. She ended up a much better and more centered person than she was in the beginning.
Famous for a Living is a fun, romance novel with a great "fish out of water" trope. Melissa Ferguson writes some enjoyable characters who the reader can absolutely get behind and root for. This cute story will have you smiling from the first to last page.
After Cat Cranwell's life and career implodes because of a shady business partner, her influencer driven lifestyle goes up in smoke. Now with no income, and no real skills or education, she is left to move to Montana and work with her Uncle at Kannery National Park. Completely out of her comfort zone, Cat must start from scratch in order to get her life in order and win back her most prized possession, a high number of Instagram followers.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing for the opportunity to read this novel.
I was hoping for way more romance in this story, but what it was lacking in terms of love, it really excelled in terms of the setting.
This book is: Grumpy vs Sunshine, Small town vs Big City, forced proximity and very thing I love about romance. I was lucky enough to not only be send the ebook but the audio as well and let me tell you neither of them disappointed. I will say this is a great funny romance that would be fantastic as a beach read.
The cover was what attracted me in the first place and the book did not disappoint! The title of the book is very fitting for the story and I am excited to check out more of the author’s work/backlist! What a treat!
This is advertised as a romance, but the romance doesn’t really kick in until very close to the end so don’t go into this if you are looking for an all consuming romance. The focus of this however is very much on Cat, our heroine and her character development. She’s an influencer who has made her whole living online, until one day she makes a bad deal and is thrown under the bus. She becomes shunned by the online community and decides to lay low and go work with her uncle at a small national park. But what she doesn’t know is that the park is relying on her to find a way to keep it open. Overall, this was an engaging enough read. Nothing that massively stood out but still enjoyable. I did like the message it had about social media and the importance of not forgetting to live your life. I gave this 3 stars.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
Cat Cranwell is a social media influencer with millions of fans, but when an app deal fails, she loses followers and is rejected by the social media influencer community. She accepts an offer from her uncle Terry to work at a tiny national park in Montana. It's not what she had in mind. She isn't going to be living the high life. She isn't prepared for elements that may be despite her coat's built-in heating system, or how much she will love her time there. She also had no idea that she was recruited to help save the park. The rugged, gorgeous ranger Zaiah Hudson is not a lover of social media. Famous for a Living leans more towards women's fiction than romance. There is romance although Cat is not asked out on a date until about halfway through the book. t
This books was about her realising that there is more to life than being glued to her phone. She discovers a sense of purpose while also having fun. There is romance, but it comes so late in the book. But I liked how the romance developed gradually. As the saying goes, opposites attract. There is no insta love in this novel, which I appreciate.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book. It was fun and fresh and I really liked the characters.
There were some laugh out loud moments, I really enjoyed and closed door romance that I prefer in books.
I read the ebook and the audiobook also , I really enjoyed the narrator, I definitely recommend.
I loved reading about all the adventures and activities the team do together in the National Park and the friendships that are formed. It's written in such a way that really makes you want to be part of the community and visit those exact places. From hiking up a scenic mountain to jumping into a frozen lake, visiting the charming Honeypot cafe, and simply hanging out in the cabins, it all sounds wonderful!
I loved the way Cat and Zaiah meet and how that storyline develops over time. It doesn't feel forced or unrealistic and seems a genuine way that two people of such different backgrounds would meet and begin to know each other. Despite their differences I hoped they would end up together, they had great chemistry!
Lots of great supporting characters in this book too. Mina and Serena were my favourites. Mina was the perfect friendly housemate, always looking out for Cat and helping her to have fun in new ways without social media being on her mind. It was great seeing how Cat supported Minas creative business and helped her get it off the ground, purely out of friendship. I really liked Serena and how she seems a demanding city girl heiress at first but really is a genuine friend looking out for Cat in every way. Serenas career development was really fitting too, and was a good addition to the story.
Overall a perfect cozy romance novel with a solid message about connecting with others and spending less time on social media. Would recommend to readers who enjoy an easy to read Rom-com that flows and keeps you engaged.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
After a disastrous brand deal, social media influencer Cat Cranwell finds herself cancelled with no plan B. So she accepts Uncle Terry's invitation to work at a national park in the wilds of Montana.
A sweet read that also acts as a cautionary tale about living your life on social media. Cat is pretty addicted to her online life, and much of the book shows her character growth as she makes friends and finds a life outside of the internet, while helping the park find a social media presence.
A quick read, not quite a romance, though there are bits of that sprinkled in. Zaiah is an intriguing character, and I liked how he is steady and supportive, with a passion for his work. And Uncle Terry is so sweet.
This wasn't the easiest read for me, as I personally didn't find the main character all that likable. She was pretty superficial, which I do realize was the point, but it made it harder for me to become invested in her story. Especially as the story is told in first person from Cat's perspective.
A fun quick read, with colorful characters in a beautiful mountain setting, good growth and a reminder to live life in reality.
