Lucy’s chocolate shop, How Sweet It Is, has been in her family for generations, and it comes with the secret recipe for Cupid chocolates, a Valentine's Day tradition. The rumor is that if you eat one of these chocolates on February 14, you’ll meet your soulmate. Lucy doesn’t know if it's magic or just romantic optimism, but she is determined to keep the tradition alive. However, she faces a new challenge with a rival bakery opening up across the street.
Enter Dean, a skeptical TV reporter who doesn't believe in the magic of the chocolates. He is assigned to cover the story, but he soon finds himself drawn to Lucy and her positive outlook on love. As they work together to track down couples who were brought together by the chocolates, they find that the truth can be complicated, especially when it comes to their own hearts.
This charming romance novel is perfect for Valentine's Day. The characters are likable, and the author has done a great job of weaving wise thoughts into the story. The fast-paced narrative, although predictable, is enjoyable, and the stakes are not too high, making it a light and easy read. The story will leave you with a warm and fuzzy feeling, and it’s no wonder it's being turned into a Hallmark movie. Whether you celebrate Valentine's Day or not, "Sweeter Than Chocolate" is a must-read for anyone who loves a sweet romance.
Great book! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the movie! If you enjoy watching hallmark movies, then you’ll enjoy this book.
Sweeter Than Chocolate is a delightful Valentine's Day treat that tells the story of Lucy, a chocolatier that runs her family's business that has found some instafame because of their "Cupid's" chocolates. These chocolates claim to bring true love to anyone that opens their heart and eats one on Valentine's Day. Dean is a reporter who is known for his cynical nature and has now been tasked with covering Lucy's shop for a fluff piece for his newstation. He begrudgingly takes the story and finds himself developing a friendship with Lucy and questioning his own denial of all things love and magic. I am so excited to see the movie when it airs on 2/4!! I recommend this for anyone who loves a good rom com or Hallmark movie!
Good writing, warm and fuzzy feelings all around cute read!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is exactly what you'd expect and want from a hallmark!
I didn't pay much attention to the Hallmark history thing and when I found out I thought, I need to see this movie
.
Sweeter than Chocolate is so well written, every atmosphere, every flavor and color was palpable as I read this romance between a cynical reporter who doesn't believe in love let alone magic and this sweet chocolatier who believes in both but is reluctant to try it in herself
.
Opposites meet, they attract, they make a truce for the sake of their livelihoods and discover that they are not so different and they might enjoy spending time together
.
Whit a beautiful selection of characters around and all the cozy vibes is the perfect San Valentín story to read
.
This book had me on the verge of every moment waiting to see who would make the last move and when it happened it made me very happy
.
It is the first time I read something from this author but I really enjoyed the colors and flavors of this story and I need to see the movie
.
Thanks to Lizzie Shane and Hallmark Publishing for give me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion
Do the “Cupid chocolates” from Lucy’s shop
really help people meet their One True Love?
Dean, a TV reporter, has his doubts…
Lucy’s chocolate shop, How Sweet It Is, has been in her family for generations…along with the secret recipe for Cupid chocolates. Rumor has it that if you eat one on February 14, you’ll meet your soulmate. Lucy herself isn’t sure if it’s magic or just romantic optimism, but a family legend is at stake. Besides, with her grandmother to support and a rival bakery opening up across the street, it certainly doesn’t hurt to believe.
My thoughts:
Super cute book! I loved it!
I really enjoyed this book, it’s so cute and funny 🫶🏻💕
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the book
Fantastic Valentines read, you will love tis. 5 stars
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
I went into this expecting a cute and "sweet" story and maybe I'm looking into it deeper than I should, but I can't stand the mmc. He's terrible. And while cynicism itself is not bad, he takes it to a whole other level and wants to affect other people with that synicism. Hate love and relationships all you want, but don't drag other people down.
It's a candy shop. It's obviously not that serious. Let people believe what they want. It's clearly not magic and people do know that. But don't take hope away from others just because you see yourself as some kind of vigilante. He seems like a douche and I absolutely could not read on as I wanted nothing else to do with him.
Thank you as always to netgalley and the publisher for a chance to read this eArc in exchange for an honest review.
Lucy owns a chocolate shop that's been in her family her whole life. But there's competition coming in and costs are increasing so like any business owner she's concerned about staying afloat. She spends all her time in the business and doesn't have time for love, which is fine because she hasn't had a lot of luck in that department. Dean wants to move up in his career, an anchor job which is hopefully local so he can stay close to his sister. When he is given an opportunity to do a story that could help put him in the spotlight for as morning anchor with his current station, he's excited but not looking forward to the story. He doesn't believe in the claim of finding true love and would like to do a story to debunk the whole idea of what this store is selling. When he goes to interview Lucy and get her to agree to the story, there's an attraction. Can he do this and can she trust him? Such a cute story, especially this close to Valentine's Day! Ms. Shane always gives us great characters, feel good moments and some chuckles along the way. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy for an honest review. All thoughts are my own. A good book and a Hallmark movie, what more could one want? This book is charming and now that I read it, I cannot wait for the movie. Lucy runs her family chocolate shop and when her best friend finds love after eating one of the shops Cupid chocolates and posts it online, business explodes. Dean is trying to be a serious journalist and doesn't want a fluff piece. When his boss gives him this feel good story for valentines, he is a bit skeptical about finding true love after eating a chocolate. Love this book!!
Sweeter Than Chocolate is really, well…sweet! Lucy Sweet runs How Sweet It Is with her family, where her great-grandmother invented the legendary magic Cupids chocolates, which is supposed to make those who eat it fall in love. Dean works for the local news and is a total skeptic, in love and in “magic” chocolates. When he is assigned to reveal the truth about the Cupids, he may just fall in love…with or without magic! My only issue with this book was I didn’t have chocolate when I started reading it so I had to wait until I had some before I could finish the book. A couple of Lindt truffles did the trick!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review and opinions are my own.
Sweeter Than Chocolate by Lizzie Shane is a wonderful Valentines story about the power of love and believing in romance. Read it maybe you will find your Valentine.
This was so sweet, pun intended! I loved Lucy, and grew to like Dean, though I found him a little…stuffy.
This would make the perfect Valentine’s Hallmark movie! After falling in love with Lizzie Shane’s writing in Pride and Puppies, I could wait to dive into this romance about a chocolatier and a news reporter. It was everything I wanted.
I received an advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.
I absolutely loved this story!
The perfect fun, sweet, easy, closed door romance for Valentine's Day...but really it's so good it should be read anytime.
This book was, as promised, sweeter than chocolate! I was a little unsure if it'd be too sweet or cheesy after hearing it going to be a hallmark movie, but it was the perfect amount of sweet! I thought this story was so incredibly cute and I loved the bickering and chemistry between the two main characters!
There are a lot of side characters in this book but I had no issue differentiating between all of them and not getting confused! It was a very easy and clear story to read and was thoroughly enjoyable. If you're looking for a cute, quick, and satisfying romance I would highly recommend this book! I wish there had been a little bit more physical tension between the two or that there was maybe a bit larger of a grand gesture towards the end (the will you be my valentine, while cute, fell a little flat for me)
Sweeter Than Chocolate is a sweet romance by Lizzie Shane, that will encourage you to look forward to Valentine’s Day. It won’t matter whether you already have a sweetheart, want one or are not the least bit interested in having one. It is a romance story between a cynic and a want to believer. Perfect for the Hallmark movie channel who is also the publisher of this book.
Lucy is diligently trying to keep the family chocolate shop in business. Publicity can have its downside as well as its upside as well as social media being totally fickle. Lucy finds that out as Dean, a reporter and she take the journey to prove that the Cupid chocolates are that special Valentine treat.
We all need to open our hearts to love which is what comes across in this story. For hopeless romantic everywhere this is the ultimate Valentine book soon to be a movie.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
So cute! Just the kind of read I needed right now! Main characters- Lucy and Dean are lovable. Dean is a doesn’t believe in love skeptic and reporter who fights for the little guy while always looking for a scheme or con. Lucy is a chocolatier who runs her family shop. Her chocolate cupids- only available on Valentine’s Day are surrounded by a legend….if you eat one on February 14th with an open heart you will find your true love.
Dean is given the assignment that could just be his ticket to the career he has always wanted…only one problem it is a fluff piece about the infamous chocolates. Uh oh!
Hallmark is the publisher of this book. If you love the Hallmark movies as much as I do, do NOT hesitate to pick this one up!
Grasp a cozy blanket, a nice mug of your favorite warm beverage and maybe a snuggly pet to share the emotions with. Warning- your face may hurt from smiling when you are finished.
A charmingly sweet romance that I can't wait to watch come to life on Hallmark! I adore Lucy's grandmother the most, and enjoyed all of her antics. Dean is sent to report on the magic of "Cupid Chocolates", but his skepticism shows from day one, so when a possible promotion is on the line, he quickly changes his tune.
This was almost a grumpy/sunshine trope, and I was entertained from start to finish. The author does a great job of reeling the reader into believing the magic of chocolate, and I found myself holding my breath waiting to see how everything panned out in the end.
I completely recommend this book. its such an amazing, sweet cozy enemies to lovers movie playing out in my head. I love how Lucy and Dean find love and show that she should believe in love. Thank you to netgalley for this arc
