I received an ARC from netgalley and I am thankful I did!
I’m not normally big on instant love stories, however what earned this story a 4 is the fact the author tackles something difficult for all fangirls. She shines a light on the ugly side of fans and didn’t shy away from it.
This book was too convoluted to follow properly. And I didn't find any of the characters relateable at all.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this one when I first started. It took me a few chapters to get into the story and actually tell myself I was enjoying what I was reading. But I was not disappointed with this random book I decided got my attention, and I knew I needed to read.
We start off with our main character, Jen. She lives a good life with a great job, caring friends, a supportive family, and a perfect boyfriend. Her only problem? She's living in another world. Jen lived in a fandom world where she dreams and pines over a movie star she'll never have. I found this so relatable since there are so many of us in the books-realm that find our book boyfriends and girlfriends, and we can become infatuated. Jen is us, guys!
The story is light and supplies entertainment to the reader, but the author shines a light on the darker side of being a fan and the dangers. This is the story of how Jen spirals, and the people who surround her are the ones to bring her back to the surface.
I loved how this story displayed an essential topic in our world today. We get so worked on famous celebrities, whether they're an actor, Kpop idols, a singer, or anyone else, that we forget they are also human.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I just couldn't enable the insta-love, so this was a DNF for me.
I will say that this one took me a while to really get into it. It wasn't until about 70% or so in that I was all in and didn't want to put it down. Jen has snagged the attention of the new guy in the office, even if every other woman is looking at him with hungry eyes. Her attraction to him grows as she discovered he's into Fan Fiction (or had been at one point,) to a special film/comic to be specific. One in which she is newbie to. But, this new hobby of hers gets to the point of obsession, taking over her entire life. I had some issues with this whole obsession with the girl. First off, I totally understand having a crush on a celebrity. But she was at the point that she had a melt down when she found out the actor whom is part of her obsession, has a new girlfriend in real life. I would be more understanding if she were a teen, but this is a grown woman we are talking about. But then, I guess that goes with the territory when you get obsessed with someone like this. You loose track of reality. It just made it hard for me to really like her. Here, she had a good looking, kind and generous man, who could have his pick of women, given all the googly eyes he gets, and she's more interested in a man who she will never meet in person, let alone have any sort of chance with. Her one redeeming quality was the fact that (in her inner dialogs) she actually knew she was acting like a crazy lady. She just couldn't control herself. It wasn't until she started to tumble down, that it got really interesting. The hottie boyfriends character was good book boyfriend material. If you are a Fan Fiction/Comic Con fan, you will probably enjoy this more than others as it goes into some details with all that. While the whole storyline has a good teen vibe, there is some steamier scenes that are more appropriate for mature readers. Honestly, if it wasn't for the sexual content, this would be a good book for the high school aged readers. (Not that older readers wouldn't enjoy it.) It's written from her POV exclusively.

This was a quick read. While I liked some aspects of the book, some I didn’t. I liked the fandom lingo and stuff cause I’m also a fangirl (w/balance) who loves fanfic, etc. could it have been better? Yes but it wasn’t the worse book ever.
A fun story with lovely characters and a plot line which will no doubt be all too familiar to many of us who are prone to lose ourselves in fictional worlds….
I’m sorry, but I hated this. Every single character was infuriating, especially our main character. And the spice was incredibly uncomfortable with the whole “kitten” thing.
