This is a good book. The two main characters are Sarah and Wes. Sarah has come to see some property that her great aunt had owned. The great aunt had passed away and left the property to Sarah and her two sisters. Wes lived next door, is a lawyer and the property manager. There is an instant attraction. They date. They fall in love.
This book is a solid, clean, heartwarming read - but the plot fell a little flat for me. I kept wishing there was more emphasis on the romance, instead of the plot about the fishing lodge. After a while it started to feel like the fishing lodge plot was too drawn out.
I found Prue's character (mother of the MMC) to be pretty annoying. She was kind of entitled (when she just assumed the Hearst's would happily hand over their property because it used to belong to the Armstrong's anyway) and meddling but not in a good way. I was shocked when she suggested that one of her sons flirt with Sarah to get her to stay in Prospect because she said it in such a tricking and almost malicious way. She didn't seem to care which son flirted or if it was real, she just wanted what she wanted. And she basically turned the townspeople completely against Sarah before they even really knew her. Her whole vibe was just ick.
This book seemed to set up an entire series that will be set in Prospect and follow the rest of the Armstrong brothers, I hope Prue shapes up in future books.
I would have also liked to see more of a commitment between Wes and Sarah at the end, but the book does have a happy ending.
Overall it wasn't my favorite book, I prefer much more fast paced romance but it was clean and heartwarming.
This is a Clean Cowboy Romance, and this is the first book in the Fortunes of Prospect series. I really fell in love with the little town in this book. I also really love getting to know all the characters in this book. The beginning of this book pulled me right into the storyline, and I did not want to put this book down. This book is way more than just a romance, and I was living for the storyline and getting to know this town. I found the romance cute and sweet. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Heartwarming) or author (Cheryl Harper) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
The combination of clean romance in a small town and has cowboys set up the stage for a book that I could not put down and finished in no time!
Sarah and her sisters have inherited property from their aunt in the small town of Prospect, Colorado. When she got there she was so certain they would be welcomed with open arms but that was not the case. Instead, she got the cold shoulder and was not sure why. She found an ally in Wes Armstrong who just happens to be her neighbor and he is totally drop dead gorgeous! (That is the type of neighbor we all want in our lives!)
This is a great start to the new series The Fortunes of Prospect. I am so looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin – Romance and Cheryl Harper for the ARC of The Cowboy Next Door. This is my personal review.
The publication is February 21, 2023.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
This was a clean and pure romance. Cowboys and city girls meet and instantly have a connection. Sadie finds out where her true home is in the end and Wes finds a partner that connects with the land and Prospect beautifully.
Great read!
