I found this one difficult to get into and although I tried, it just wasn't for me. I felt a lot of the stuff wasn't necessary and at over half way through I don't think I can finish it.
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture, and Kathryn Croft for the ARC.
Kathryn Croft is one of my favourite authors and I certainly wasn’t disappointed in this new book. It might even be my favourite one from her yet.
It’s the perfect domestic thriller with plenty of twists throughout. I raced through it and thoroughly enjoyed it. A great read and one that I’d definitely recommend.
Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. Kathryn Croft is an autoread author for me I have yet to find one of her books that I do not thoroughly enjoy.
Told in two timelines, The Suspect kept me guessing and coming up with my own theories as to how Jess's mother had been killed. Secrets and lies are the name of the game here. But who is lying and what secret are they protecting? There is a sense of need and want in this book. Jess was just a little girl asleep in her stroller when her mother was murdered. She has no memory of that day. She has been told who killed her mother but when he approaches her and proclaims his innocence, Jess searches for the truth. She not only wants to know what happened to her mother but needs to know. She wants the truth so that she has closure. But will searching for the truth put her in danger? Was he own father the actual murderer?? The past storyline is told by Jess's mother. The present is told by Jess. I found this was an excellent way to jump between past and present as I tried to work out who the murderer was. I enjoyed the suspense, tension and mystery in this book.
This was a gripping read, full of twists and had a jaw dropping ending. #kathryncroft #thesuspect #netgalley #goodreads #bookouture #litsy #thestorygraph #kindle #thriller #bookqueen #bookstagram
Thank you Netgalley & Kathryn Croft for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review!
This book wasn't bad but the jumpy from past to present got confusing at times.
Great author. Her books are always suspenseful right up until the ending. This was from a couple POV and times ( past and present).
Oh my goodness this book had me hooked and I just devoured it until the end. I loved the dual time-line and I raced through this desperate to find out the ending. Definitely five stars. A new author for me. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Kathryn Croft is a must read author. This is a brilliant psychological and family drama mixed. I have devoured this in just one sitting.
This is a perfectly paced read which has been just what I needed. I have devoured page after page completely unable to predict where this was going.
This is a book that has definitely taken my emotions on a journey. I’ve been completely pulled into this one. Invested and emotional as the story has unfolded. This is a real talent of the author to be able to make the reader feel.
I have loved the dual timeline, it really allows the reader the chance to delve deep into the events that have taken place.
A definite for the TBR.
A dual timeline story featuring daughter Jess in the present all grown up and her mother Lori before she was killed when Jess was a toddler. This was gripping and suspenseful with a real shocker of an ending.
This book is totally addictive! I was completely hooked and had to keep reading more and more to find out who the killer was. You definitely won't guess! Brilliant.
This was a first by this author for me and I really enjoyed the way she wove the story and built up the suspense.
There’s a dual timeline, going back and forth between the past and the present and it really builds the tension, as Jess tries to uncover the secrets from the past, and the story of her mother, Lori, unfolds. It’s real edge-of-your-seat stuff as the two timelines progress and I could feel the danger that Jess was in as it developed.
This mysterious and twisty tale kept me completely on my toes, and completely hooked. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.
I have read many novels by Kathryn Croft and I was really glad to get an ARC of The Suspect.
The novel is a really good read and I enjoyed the read.
We meet Jess who is approached by Nathaniel French in public and tells her that he did not do the thing he was accused of many years ago. That crime was the murder of Jess' mum, Lori.
Jess is distraught, she needs to find answers and does not know where to go. She investigates if Nathaniel is telling the truth. Whilst she is in contact with him, he is murdered and Jess realises that his murder may be to cover up the actual truth.
We are thrust into a mix of characters, alongside Jess we meet Gabriel her new love interest, Zara her sister, her aunt and uncle, her ex boyfriend.
The novel is told through Jess' point of view and her mother Lori. I really enjoyed reading about these women, I warmed to Lori but found Jess to be blunt and quite rude and did not really enjoy her as a character.
As a whole, this novel takes a while to get truly into but it is worth the read once you get in to it. Thanks to Kathryn Croft, Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
Shut Up!!!! This was so good!!!! I am always a sucker for multiple POV reads and this was very well done. It goes from past to present and kept me turning pages all night.
I am always on the lookout for a good mystery, so when The Suspect came up for review I could not resist. The Suspect checked all my boxes by delivering an intense and thrilling mystery.
Twenty years Jessica lost her mom at the hands of a murderer. At the time of the murder, Jess was two years old and has no memory of the tragic event. Throughout the years, she remained eager to learn the details of the murder. Her eagerness morphed into an obsession with learning what happened that fateful day twenty years ago.
One Friday afternoon while walking in Camden, a stranger approaches Jess. As the stranger came closer, she recognised him as the man who everyone blamed for her mother’s murder, but with the lack of evidence an arrest was not made. He insists on speaking with her as he needs her to know he did not murder her mother. The information he imparts leaves Jess more confused than ever. If what the stranger said was true, then it would mean her family lied to her and she would need to find the truth for herself.
In her desire to learn the truth, she went to the persons who would have the answers. However, they all tell her to leave the past where it belongs. This made more obsessed with uncovering the truth. The more she digs, the more secrets come to light. Soon she’s entangled in a web of deceit, lies and secrets. A web, which if untangled, will unravel her entire world.
The story hidden between the pages of The Suspect was gripping and kept me glued to the pages. It moved between the past and the present. The dual timelines gave readers insight in to what happened in the past leading up to the murder and what is currently happening with Jess as she attempts to unravel the secrets. Usually with dual timeline stories, I find that I enjoy one timeline more than the other. However, this was not the case with The Suspect. Both timelines pulled me in, and I couldn’t wait to see how they would unfold. True to its name, The Suspect featured several suspects, and the many twists made identifying the killer a challenge.
A captivating read, The Suspect will keep readers entertained from start to finish. Readers who enjoy a well-written mystery will love Kroft’s latest offering.

Description
My family said he killed my mother. They lied…
I was just a little girl, fast asleep in my stroller, the day my mother was killed. I don’t remember anything about the sunny day that turned so dark. But now, twenty years later, when the man walks towards me in the shadows of an empty street, his eyes on me for just a fraction too long, a shiver goes down my spine. I recognize his face from the picture in the papers. He killed my mother. I try to run but he wants me to listen. He says that he is innocent, that the police got it wrong, and that my family have been lying to me for years. My father and sister tell me to stay away from him. They remind me that because of him my mother never got to tuck me in at night or ease me through my first heartbreak. My boyfriend begs me to ignore him and says he could be dangerous. But when he is found dead, I am shaken to my core. Who needed to keep him quiet? I won’t feel safe until I find out what he wanted to tell me. And when I go to his flat and find a photo that proves he was telling the truth, I suspect that the person who killed my mother is far closer to home than I could have imagined. What dark secrets are the people I love hiding? And if I search for the truth, am I placing my own life in danger?
🚨My Review🚨
The Suspect by Kathryn Croft is a gripping psychological thriller . The unique story line kept me hooked to the point of not wanting to put the book down. Told in alternating chapters Lori in the past and her daughter Jess in the present we switch from past to present as we follow events leading up to the murder of Lori. I was immersed in this book from the very start until the astonishing ending! loved every minute of it, which is why i stayed up all night when I only intended to read one more chapter. Croft's writing is fantastic and she writes an amazing story and weaves a web you'll be anxious to follow and unravel to see just what happens.
An absolutely addictive read that will have you racing through the pages and questioning everything you thought you knew about your family.

Narrated by both Lori and Jess we switch from past to present as we follow events leading up to the murder of Lori, and in present day with Jess being approached by the man believed to have murdered her mother.
The plot hooked me in from the very first page, and before I know it I'd finished in several hours.
It travels along at a steady pace, is full of suspense, has some clever twists and an ending that I wasn't expecting.
The characters are realistic, they're all keeping secrets and lie like it's going out of fashion.
I found The Suspect to be an enjoyable, engaging domestic drama.
Many thanks to Bookouture for my tour spot.
Rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Suspect by Kathryn Croft is a suspense filled thriller that keeps you on your toes from beginning to end. Addictive and well paced, it is a book that reveals its secrets slowly, the sense of danger increasing bit by bit as the tension begins to ratchet up to breaking point.
A dual timeline novel, the story moves between Lori in the past and her daughter Jess in the present. Twenty eight years ago Lori was murdered as she walked in a park with baby Jess in a pushchair. Jess remembers nothing about that horrific day and is happy with how her life is going, but then everything changes in a heartbeat when a man confronts her on the street, telling her that he is innocent of her mother’s murder and that her family have been lying to Jess all her life.
As her family tell her to stay away from the man, Jess begins to realise that she doesn’t know who to trust. Is her father telling the truth? Or has he been lying about what actually happened to her mother that day? As the story moves backwards and forwards in time, what really did happen to Lori is slowly revealed and Jess finds herself questioning everything she thought she knew, not only about her mother’s death, but also about the very people she thought she could trust with her life…
The Suspect is a well plotted and exciting psychological thriller that once started is impossible to put down. With a cast of memorable characters and a storyline that keeps you guessing, Kathryn Croft has written an addictive thriller with the kind of twists and turns that will keep you glued to the pages from beginning to end.
.Although a new author to me, Kathryn Croft’s writing is so good that I’ll most definitely read more books by her in the future. The Suspect is a fantastic read that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. I loved it!
This was my first novel by Kathryn Croft and I was excited to dive right in. This tale has palpable tension by the bucketload that saw the pages turning so rapidly that resulted in me finishing this marvellous thriller in one sitting. Taut and suspenseful, it is so well plotted and crafted. An engrossing, immersive read with themes of sibling rivalry and adultery. Very highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
Could not put this down
What an absolute page turner
Quick paced book with plenty of twists and turns
I did not guess the outcome at all
Thank you Netgalley, Kathryn Croft and Bookouture
I started this one knowing exactly what had happened. And then I read a little more and went what. And then I had no idea what had happened. Told in dual timelines, the past is narrated by Lori and the present is narrated by Jess, Lori’s daughter. Lori was murdered and no one was charged for the crime. Then the most likely suspect tracks down Jess because he has something she needs to know about the murder.
This was a rollercoaster read for me. Every time I wrapped my head around new facts, there were more new facts. Filled with twists I never saw coming, I was always on my toes reading this one and raced through it to find out the ending.
