Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I LOVE Joe Goldberg! He is creepy and I an always terrified of being in his head. I love his inner monologues and always question how reliable of a narrator he is. I enjoyed this book so much. It was fun to be in Joe’s head.
I've been a huge fan of the 'you' books to date (as well as the Netflix adaptation). But sadly, this one wasn't quite at the same level. Joe has always been the villain that you still find very likeabke but in this book I didn't like him very much! Still urge you to read her earlier books and hoping the eventual next one in the series is back to former glory!
This was the worst Joe book. You Love Me was slipping as is but this was just so awful it took me months to finish because I just wasn’t into it. There was no chemistry between Joe and Wonder (which I despised her name), and they were never fully in a relationship to begin with in my opinion. The new characters were bland except for Sarah Beth. I kept waiting for there to be a plot twist with her and then there wasn’t. Joe was just randomly now obsessed with becoming a writer and wanting everyone to love his book. I think at this point I will stick with You and Hidden Bodies. I absolutely loved the first 2, but by the 4th book, Joe’s story seems to be dead in the ground like his victims.
What a great first book for 2023. I was overjoyed when I received a ARC of this book. I devoured the first three, and couldn’t wait to find out where this book took me. There is something about a story with one of your favorite characters.
I have both read and listened to this series, and it is almost creepy how I could hear the words in the narrator’s voice… and picture Joe as Penn.
This story finds him at Harvard in a fellowship program. The story almost intertwines with the book that Joe read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and can’t wait for what is next!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Joe is a writer and a schemer. He squeezes his way into a Harvard fellowship and sets out on a mission to rule his world.
The newest “chapter” of the YOU series definitely was a slow burn for me, but satisfying nonetheless.
A lot of Joe’s inner-monologues that we have become accustomed to, and stream of consciousness trains of thought which is par for the course with our anti-hero… but for me this time I didn’t really love the object of his affection’s character, Wonder. I think the thing we have to remember though- is that Joe’s infatuation has never been because there is anything really outwardly special about a girl, but just his mind creating the idea that she is perfect (until she is not), so I understand the underwhelming female opposite.
I did enjoy the setting being in New England and all the cultural references that came along with that and some of the pop culture references.
I really enjoy the world that this author has built to fit a character like Joe Goldburg in, however I really hope the next installment of this story includes a bit of a shake-up and some character growth for our main character. I definitely will continue to read Joe’s story because I think the premise is super unique.
Thanks to Netgalley and Random House publishing for this ARC- this one will be published 4/25/2023!
Joe and his delusions are hilarious to me. Just as funny in the books as they are in the hit Netflix tv series. Instead of suffering any kind of consequence for his actions in previous books, Joe has now found himself in another environment brimming with people and potential victims.
The fact that he is so sick of everyone makes me chuckle a bit. The nicknames he chooses for the characters are even funnier. In walks Wonder, and in true Joe fashion, he becomes immediately obsessed. They have a few things in common which is more than enough cause for Joe to start cyber stalking and physically stalking her.
As always, I love the sarcasm and the nonsensical thought process that makes Joe think he's somehow superior to everyone else. I want Joe to meet his match one day.
Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.
Many many thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing as well as Ms. Kepnes for this ARC. I loved that I got to read this in exchange for my unbiased opinion.

This was one of the most exciting ARCs I’ve gotten. I love Joe Goldberg and his twisted ways!
As usual, he has moved onto a new place. Now he’s haunting Cambridge, MA. Now he’s been invited into a writing fellowship at Harvard. This is where he meets his next….victim?? Wonder is also in the fellowship and, as is his way, Joe is sure he has found his soulmate. They’re both autodidacts and both love to read. They’re both obsessed with reading and neither are like the other pretentious members of the group. Naturally Joe has to both cyber stalk and actually stalk her so that he can commit a bunch of felonies. We expect nothing less.
Joe’s wit is, undoubtedly, entertaining in its randomness and sarcasm. I love how each of these books is written in the second person. Joe is always disgusted with everyone and his biting wit makes me laugh out loud while I read. I love the erratic jumping from thought to thought and back again. The nicknames are everything!
As funny as our anti-hero is, he does get quite whiny. I feel like this book could have been edited down by at least one third. The whining and complaining about every little thing wears thin. I also found the end unsatisfying. It was adequate but I had hopes for more. I won’t give any spoilers but I did wish for a more gratifying end.
Overall, while I love that we get more of Joe’s life, I was hoping for a bit more. Maybe in the next one?
This latest addition to the You series doesn’t really pick up/slightly pull you in until about halfway through (maybe even further). Joe is always the anti-hero who will have moments where we lowkey root for him even though we know it’s wrong, but this one misses that mark. The writing style is almost written like the script for the show which doesn’t translate the same while reading.
Joe Goldberg is back and has written a book! Our favorite serial killer and book lover has given up selling books and now has written a novel. Joe has been accepted into a writing residency at Harvard with one of his favorite writers, Glen Shoddy. Glen is your typical pretentious professor who lives for people to notice him and who hides behind a more talented spouse. As a writer myself, I was interested in the writing residency and the people who attended, but mostly wanted to see who Joe would obsess over and stalk. Sure enough,, on the first day of residency he meets Wonder, a woman who works at Dunkin' Donuts and who like Joe doesn't quite fit in. I did enjoy Joe's initial conversations with Glen and the other writers and the name dropping of famous books and authors.
However, being a "Joe" book I was looking for some excitement and the constant writing talk became a little boring. Wonder was a dull character who was 35 but acted like a teenager and seemed way too boring to actually write a great book. The author makes it seem like writers are all kind of crazy and obsessed and they talk about writing 24 hours a day. She also put in some digs about Goodreads and insulted people who take the time to write reviews and I found it kind of off-putting. There are a couple of murders in the book and Joe is his usual obsessed and rambling self, but the majority of the book seemed to be about Joe and Wonder talking about their novels. I actually found myself counting how many pages were left because I was getting tired of reading about their novels which we are readers didn't actually read. The ending made sense to me and as always I am looking forward to where Joe will go with his life but this was not a favorite of mine. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC in exchange for a review.
Joe Goldberg is back in For You and Only You and is taking on the world of higher education at Harvard. He finds himself drawn to Wonder, the other autodidact (I love that this book taught me this word!) in the fellowship of writers. Joe does slip up a few times, misreading situations and I found myself surprised. Usually he is a little more on top of things but these instances gave some extra drama for Joe to deal with.
I enjoyed Joe joining along with other writers in Harvard and really like the "friendship", for lack of a better description, that ended up forging with one of the other fellows in the end.
Thank you to Random House Publishing Group- Random House and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
I have really enjoyed this series of books! I hope this isn’t the end of them. I would definitely recommend this book!
Oh Joe Goldberg. He’s back and he’s ready to take on the world. Get ready for this rollercoaster that will make you scream as you inch closer to the answers but it will take your breath away as it unravels many more twists and turns along it’s journey,
Reading this book felt like there were a thousand words packed onto a page. The storyintense but such an easy read. When I realized the book was almost finished I was sad. As far as the Joe Goldberg series go I felt the last three books were merely the set up leading to this, the fourth in the series,
This novel has several new characters but it doesn’t take long before many references are made about characters from the previous books, reminding us why we love to hate Joe. He.s a brilliant mastermind but a serial killer too.
I think this was the strongest of the four in the series and I am already excited at the prospect of a fifth. Well written and well played Joe.
Thank you NetGalley, Random House Publishing and Caroline Kepnes for a copy of this ARC. I have to say I was super excited to read this one. I’ve really enjoyed the You series. With that being said, I’d give this book 3.5 stars.
I loved the setting. Joe in Cambridge at Harvard University. It was the perfect setting.
Overall, I enjoyed the storyline and the relationship Joe established with his fellow Shoddies. I thought what happened with S.B. was a little weak and what happened in the Dead Shed could have been held over Joe’s head a little bit more. We’ve all seen how Joe is used to getting what he wants in the past, yet, besides a few small attempts, he didn’t really go after what he needed from the Dead Shed.
It was entertaining to get lost in the nonsense that goes on in Joe’s head, but I found myself having to read some paragraphs a few times because I was confused on the references.
Overall I enjoyed it, but I have to say, I won’t be drinking any kool-aid or Coolattas any time I soon.
This latest book by Caroline Kepnes is book #4 in this series. I have not read the other 3 books before this one and I don’t know if it’s because of that, I just did not “get” this book at all. I tried, I really did and I just got lost with all the characters … etc. This is my first DNF of 2023. Just couldn’t finish it. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release. To be published April 2023.
Oh we meet again Joe Goldberg, I’ve miss you so! You is my favorite delicious guilt pleasure series.
Joe Goldberg is back and he’s heading to Harvard with a full ride. He’s written a novel and will be attending the writers workshop in hopes to get his bool published. He’s among Ivy League students, some with published books and all with degrees, except for another classmate who doesn’t fit the mold of Harvard. Immediately Joe is mesmerized and has found his real soul mate. She reads, writes(reviews on goodreads) and too lacks a college degree. Joes turns on the charm to do anything to get close to her.
The book began to pick up for me around halfway into the plot. Though the story had the same elements and lay out of the stories, it’s worth your time.
That’s being said, this is my least favorite of You series.
My critiques are Joe lacks character depth and is plot is relatively the same as the others preview and there are mild changes I felt weren’t natural for Goldberg. Felt off for me. I was expecting more and I know the author can do more and better with the plot. She’s a talented increíble writer.
You will be left with wanting more, and the lack luster ending gives encouragement that there will be another upcoming adventure of Joe Goldberg.
I’m already looking forward for the next read.
I teach elementary age students which is why I can’t recommend this series to students, however I’ve recommended to some moms and they have fallen under Goldberg’s spell. It’s been fun to discuss the series.
Been following the "YOU" series sincethe beginning and LOVE Joe and most of the other characters, along with the storyline! Although VERY different from the Netflix series, comparing the two has been an awesome ride so far and Joe has kept true to himself in both.
The 4th book in this installment had me saddened that this would be the last and final book of the series. I still loved Joe but the lack of character development had me wanting more. It took a few chapters to get back to getting used to the author's writing style, and the constant processing of Joe's rapid fire thoughts, but if you've read the previous three books in the series, that is how the books are all written and goes along with the series theme. However this one took a bit longer to pick up. The love interest in this one was definitely no Beck or Love. Wonder seemed very juvenile for Joe's taste and neither character seemed to flourish throughout the book's entirety. The chemistry was just not there whatsoever. There are a very select few twists where I was unable to put the book down for at least a few pages, but overall the best part was the ending, which leaves opportunity for Joe's story to continue. As much as I wouklld enjoy the story to go on forever, there has to be something huge and major in Joe's life to spike interest again. I'm hoping the next season of the Netflix series can shed some light for the story to go on!
Kepnes knocks it out of the ballpark with her latest Joe Goldberg novel.. As a longtime fan I was thrilled with this installment, and it's wink and a nod to the lifestyle of writers. I have already recommended the book on the literary podcast (That I host), Vox Vomitus.
I have been a big fan of this series and was really excited to read this. This book however, was my least favorite of them all. The story was repetitive and not as thrilling as the previous books in this series. I still think these novels are great and I enjoy seeing what Joe is up to next. Fans of this series will still enjoy this one! I was just left wanting a little more from this one. Thank you for my copy!
