Poor Joe. He constantly finds and attracts people more estranged from reality than himself. This was another wild ride. Another love found. Lots of bodies. I am constantly amazed at Caroline Kepnes’s ability to place me, the reader, right into Joe’s head. You know he’s a sociopath. You know he’s dangerous. And yet, his stream of consciousness is so relatable and easy to empathize with. Readers will love seeing Joe among Harvard’s elite, now finally with a book of his very own! I can’t see where life takes Joe next.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
Since I joined NetGalley, I've gotten around 170 advanced copies from them, and For You and Only You was hands-down the one I was most excited to get. I love this book series as well as the TV show, and every Joe Goldberg book has been a five-star read for me. I enjoyed the setting of the novel, and all the supporting characters were interesting and unique...and as always, Joe's head was a fascinating place to be. For You and Only You is a great addition to the Joe Goldberg series, and I'll definitely be adding it to my book collection when it comes out next year. Thanks so much to Random House and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of the latest novel in a series I love...Caroline Kepnes is an amazing writer, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. : )
Was more than ready for this fourth installment of one of my favorite series and it did not disappoint. The show is so different from the books that I always tell people they can enjoy both! But the books are always better in any given situation. Joe is still crazy but he still has this hold on me that makes me love him and I’ve no idea why.
Is Joe Goldberg totally sick and twisted? Yes. Does he get himself into the stickiest of situations? Yes. Does it get repetitive? Yes. Am I going to read every novel about his tortured self? …..yes. I’m not sure if anything will ever quite give us the thrill of the first book in this series, because at this point we all know what to expect. Joe becomes obsessed with girl, girl is flaky, some other character becomes his friend while the girl is pushing him away, etc. You know the drill. I had high hopes we’d see something shocking in this latest installment and I was left….a little on the bored side. Fans of the series will no doubt read and enjoy this one, but in my view I wouldn’t say it’s a MUST read.
I appreciate your allowing me to review this book. There is a problem with it, the profanity is disgusting, and I don't believe good writers need to use the f word in every other sentence. Think about To Kill A Mockingbird, priceless, eternally good story, now read this book again, and lets talk. I am not being ugly, just honest.

I absolutely LOVE the song lyrics and plays on words and the book quotes that Kepnes sprinkles throughout her YOU books! Her writing is clever and witty and funny and horrifying all at the same time! This one was definitely one of my most anticipated books of the year and it did not disappoint!
Not the best book in the You series, but as always, it was a wild ride. More manipulation, more murders, more literary parallels…more crazy (yet so logically sane…?) Joe!
When I first started this book, I expected the same Joe cycle to start, but boy was I in for a ride…
I loved the character of Sarah Beth and how Joe was able to confess to her and still keep a “working” relationship.
Very surprised that Joe did not kill Wonder in the end.
Definitely would love to see Amy come back into play or even some more uncovered history from the 3 previous books.
Very excited for book 5 (if she decides to keep going)!
Ladies and gentlemen, Joe Goldberg is back! Follow Joe through a stream of thoughts as he once again falls in love with who he “wonders” is Mrs. Right? (See what I did there) The novel as seen through Joe’s perspective is his personal journey to become a successful writer along with a relationship and helping the girl he’s into win as well. Like always, Joe finds the flawed attributes in his love interest, and he commences to do “Joe” things as his interest develops then falls apart. Kepnes has a very unique sense of writing and knows how to captivate an audience, it also strongly helps to have the voice of Penn Badgely narrating Joe’s voice in my head as I read along. This is not a stand alone novel and should be read last in the series. I enjoyed this one. Thank you netgalley, random house and Caroline Kepnes for this arc of this book, I will purchase the physical copy when it’s released and add it to my collection!
I have been enamored of the Joe Goldberg series ever since I devoured the first one. I didn’t find this book quite as “unputdownable” as the original “You”, but it’s still very enjoyable. I’m eager to see what’s next in store for Joe. Thanks for letting me read it!
I was so damn excited to be able to read this this book before it is released . I enjoyed it I did find that some parts of the book dragged and were a bit boring. Also couldn't help but read the whole book in a joe Goldberg voice (from the Netflix show :)
Thank you netgalley
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Caroline Kepnes for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Wow I’m so happy to have received this book! It was definitely an anticipated read so I’m grateful I got my hands on it early. As always, I’m obsessed with Caroline’s writing style an just get lost in her words. This one wasn’t my favorite out of the series, but still pretty incredible.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I love all of the books in the You series so far. This one did not disappoint either!
"Karma doesn't kill people, people kill people."
Joe Goldeberg is back and is hitting the cobblestone streets of Cambridge, Ma. after earning a fellowship at Harvard being held by one of his favorite authors. He's finished a book, Me, and is ready for the admiration of the world and all the money that comes with it.
While there he meets Wonder Parish, Dunkin worker by day and an aspiring writer, and Joe falls head over heels for her but why does everyone keep trying to get in the way of their budding relationship?
Another installment in the YOU series and it definitely lacked the magic held by the others. I can't even believe that I am going to say this but Joe is starting to get a little boring. The first 20% of this book was a struggle and, in fact, I almost set this down but once Joe got murder on his mind it did start to pick up. Still, his stream of consciousness ramblings, while at times entertaining, had me at other times wanting to tell him to just shut the F up already. I'm so torn about this. I also wasn't fond of Wonder Parish. I didn't find her remotely interesting and I couldn't understand what all the fuss was over her.
What I did enjoy was the locality. Being a Massachusetts native I loved all the local nuggets of information. Fenway and the Red Sox, mentions of Chronicle and Shayna had me dying - I love that show! Heck, even having Wonder work at a Dunkin was perfect. I kid you not when I say there's a Dunkin on every street corner in Massachusetts. Oh, and the terrible driving, we've got that too.
"When we get to my Tesla you take the wheel - this is your town, not mine - and you drive like a Masshole. No turn signals and no regard for life."
Cue the guitar:
"The bar is too loud - fucking Massholes, can they go five minutes without blasting "classic" rock?"
This one put a smirk on my face:
"You tell Lou that you already read his book - you won a galley in a Goodreads giveaway - and ah. You're a Goodreads girl. You "love to read" - good - and you're all about freebies - bad."
Guilty as charged!
All in all this wasn't as great as I was hoping for but it wasn't terrible by any means. I just think the Joe schtick may be running it's course. The ending does leave possibilities for more Joe and I wouldn't be completely opposed to it though I will temper my expectations in the future. 3 stars!
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for my complimentary copy.
Joe is back and just as pretentious and in love as ever. Caroline has an incredible way of writing a somehow sympathetic psychopath and making you question your own morals. We are once again fully immersed in Joe’s narrative that is rife with simile and metaphor which at times is maybe a little inaccessible to the casual reader. However, her ability to make you feel just as anxious as Joe does when he feels like he’s on the brink of getting caught is exactly why I keep coming back to these Joe Goldberg novels. I will say that this one went on just a bit longer than I would have liked and one point I was hoping that “kill your darlings” would be more than just a literary tool for writing. I will, however, continue to read Joe’s thoughts for as long as I can.
Kepnes knocked the park out of this one. While I loved You, the second and third books in the series were tough for me to connect to. This novel, however, returns to that spark that is Joe Goldberg with a biting commentary on the way that we all perceive ourselves.
Looking forward to seeing where Joe's journey takes us next.
Ooh I don't feel good about this, but I have to say it. This was not a good read for me. I was oh so bored. I did not care for Wonder or anyone in close proximity to her. It was all a bore. Joe was a disappoinment. His kills were ho-hum. The ending was a snooze.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this arc.
Another thrilling Joe Goldberg book! I loved diving back into Joe’s story as it took him to Harvard. His adventures are always surprising and interesting. Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for the ARC!
Huge thank you to NetGalley and RandomHouse Publishing for this ARC! When I saw Caroline had written another Joe Goldberg I jumped at the chance to read it before it was released, because I have loved this series since book one. I really wanted to give this book 5 stars and at the start I had every intention of doing so. I love how Caroline writes Joe and it’s the reason I enjoy this series. For You And Only You felt a bit drawn out to me at times. It was over 400 pages that I felt could have been 350 or even 300. However, this one like the other You books was entertaining and I liked how it ended.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes. Will I read another You book? Freaking yes!
I love Caroline Kepnes Joe Goldberg novels and will read everything about Joe that she puts out (and I hope that she continues to write books about him)! This latest one didn't quite grab a hold of me as hard as the others, but I still really enjoyed it.
