Hellaween is a cute, if difficult to follow, graphic novel perfect for the spooky kid crowd. First off: the art.. This is going to be the biggest draw for my junior high school library patrons. It's use of vibrant colors against the darker Halloween backdrop is engaging and was by far my favorite part of the reading experience. While overall I enjoyed the story for the shenanigans between the kids (Hiro is my favorite), there were some holes in the world building that made me feel like I had missed something for the first 30-50 pages. It also took a while to keep track of the who's who in the main character lineup, which is extensive. By halfway through the book, though, I overcame these obstacles and was able to fully immerse myself in the story. All in all, I think my junior high crowd will enjoy this & I look forward to seeing how the author grows into Book 2.
