Having not read any of the previous Forgotten Brotherhood titles before starting Hunter Avenged, I honestly didn't know what to expect. Sven and Rivka's story might be a standalone, but I assumed I would be at least a little lost without reading any of the other five books in this series. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get into the story, even when characters who were obviously from previous books made appearances.
But Sven and the Forgotten Brotherhood were easy to pick up and follow along with. I loved how these immortal tough guys were juxtaposed against Rivka - who was literally an angel.
Thanks to their paranormal abilities, Rivka and Sven's story spanned the globe in search of the book that could save Rivka and prove her innocence in the whole drakon debacle. With some not-so-angelic angels on their trail, Sven and Rivka find themselves getting closer than they ever expected.
Overall, the story and writing style were super easy to pick up and get lost in. I devoured this one over two reading sessions - mostly because I needed to know what would happen between Rivka and Sven while they were trying to evade the angelic powers that be. I enjoyed watching their powers come alive on the page, especially as Rivka and Sven teamed up and used their abilities together, rather than just to survive and fight another day.
Having not read the previous books, I now really want to go back and read the first five stories to get the complete Forgotten Brotherhood backstory. But not having those backstories did not impede my ability to follow along and enjoy Sven and Rivka's story.
This book was filled to the brim with action, adventure and romance. I loved how Sven and Rivka were opposites in almost every way but they fit together seamlessly. He was a protective Viking warrior with trust issues and she was an angel that didn’t like confrontation and used her smarts instead of fists. They shouldn’t have worked but they did. I felt the connection between them immediately and even though their relationship developed fast I believed it completely. Another thing I enjoyed was the pacing of the book. It was fast and the book flew by! That’s to be expected though given the circumstances that Rivka and Sven find themselves in and the time frame that the story takes place.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved Hunter Avenged and I can’t wait to go back to the beginning of this series and meet all the other members of the Forgotten Brotherhood!
This is a story that takes off almost from the first page and never slows down there is plenty of drama and excitement and a almost tangible connection between the main characters Sven is a hunter tasked with hunting the angel Rivka the one who released the drakon and out the forgotten brotherhood in danger What he didn't expect is that the angel would be a studious type the total opposite to him but she calls to him anyway Now they will have to work together to bring down those who are seeking her as she is the key that could destroy the brotherhood forever and in the process they may fall victim to the attraction between them.
Hunter Avenged by N.J. Walters is the sixth instalment of the Forgotten Brotherhood series and another gripping tale to captivate and enthralled readers. An easy to follow storyline with strong, determined characters, make this a truly enjoyable and entertaining read.
Brilliant Read!
Sven had been tasked with finding Rivka a fallen Angel, Maccus needed answers from her as to who had tried to kill one of the Brotherhood. Sven one of the members of the Forgotten Brotherhood and immortal Viking had finally chased her down but he wasn’t prepared for the instant attraction and protectiveness he had for her when they finally came face to face.
Rivka was running, she had been set up and was trying to find answers and wasn’t prepared for the attraction she felt for Sven. Rivka has been the heavenly librarian for centuries and all the other angels had called her a defect but in Sven’s eyes she was everything he could ever want and need.
A brilliant fast paced storyline full of action, betrayal, passion and steamy moments. The sex appeal was oozing off the pages! They were racing against time to find out the truth, there was so much going on and they needed to find out who was at the bottom of this. A fantastic ending to the mystery of who was behind all the evil happening with some surprises along the way! I enjoyed how some of the previous characters are included within this story.
I’d definitely recommend reading all the books within this series although they can all be read as standalone. A great series, you don’t want to miss!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own
This is the next installment of the Forgotten Brotherhood series. Here we meet Rivka, an Angel assigned as the Librarian of Heaven who is accused of interfering in human lives. But she has been set-up and is trying to find proof of her innocence. And Sven, a Viking warrior of the Forgotten Brotherhood who is assigned with tracking her down and turning her in. As they try to unravel the mystery of who framed Rivka they face many challenges and soon realize that Rivka is now not only fighting to prove her innocence but fighting for her life.
Their story is filled with twists and turns as they try to figure out why and how this has happened. As their journey progresses, they face many challenges. The story was fast paced, and filled with action, suspense, and of course, romance. A great read! Looking forward to more books about the Forgotten Brotherhood.
I received a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are my own and not solicited in any way. Publication date: 1/16/2023.
Another entertaining and riveting story in this series. Liked it and liked the characters, excellent world building as usual
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
I almost dropped my phone, when I saw the cover of Hunter Avenged on Netgalley.
Of course I had to request it, because—duh. I’ve read all of the Forgotten Brotherhood books and it is still one of my favorite series. I do fear that N.J. Walters will run out of colours for the wonderful covers though:-)
And although you can read the books as a standalone, it is sooooo much better to read the whole series. After Bjorn Cursed (I cried my eyes out on that one), I already hoped that Sven would get his own story. And now he does! And he gets an angel, no less. Rivka was already mentioned Ancient Desire, but not with name. And in Hunter Avenged we learn why Lucius was awakened. Rivka has been on the run for months now, ever since Lucius has awoken and everything got out of hand. She is determined to proof her innocence, but the odds are not in her favour. As usual with N.J. Walters, the chemistry is through the roof. The story has all the elements of being awesome: a swoonworthy hero, a badass angel, deceit, danger and sparks flying. Totally epic. Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc
Honestly, this was definitely my least favorite of the series so far. The insta-love did not work for me here at all. And I grew bored of constantly reading about Sven thinking about how great and perfect Rivka was. Almost nothing happened until the end.
So we know that Sven was tasked with tracking down the angel that fled after Lucius was woken up. And he has been. Literally all over the globe. The more he chases her though, the more he is starting to respect her and be drawn to her. He fights it because he knows she definitely is suspicious and could very well be the enemy. But it's not easy. Especially when he finally tracks her down and can watch her up close.
Rivka has lived her entire life (which is basically eons) being mocked as a defective angel. But that doesn't stop her from trying her best to do what good she can. So when she is finally approved to start her own foundation on Earth, she thinks everything has finally paid off. Until it all goes to hell and she realizes she was set up as a scapegoat. She flees with the intent of finding out who was behind it all. Which is really hard when she constantly has to run.
Sven tracks Rivka down at her current job and watches her as he decides what to do. When they come in contact, Rivka can't help her reaction to him but she also knows she needs to get away. Now. She doesn't get far. Sven manages to slip a tracker on her that only he can remove, so when she flees he can find her. Good thing too because the angels beat him to her and there's a fight before he can snag her and take her to Maccus.
I always get so frustrated when every guy tries to start a fight with Maccus over their girl. Especially here though because Sven doesn't even know anything about Rivka and he's prepared to fight. Like anyone can win against Maccus.
From this point, so very little happens. It's mostly Sven and Rivka talking or eventually having sex. I was surprised just how little of this book had them actually trying to find the information they need to find the culprit. Finally they go to the one source left to them to find a book they need to summon the person behind the whole plot. And this is when the story also starts getting better. They do the summoning, which definitely does not go off without a hitch. I'd like to say I was surprised at who the bad guy was, but really, I wasn't. But damn what a reason to do all the bad things he has.
The ending wasn't bad, but I didn't really care all that much for it either. What happened with Rivka was neat, sure, but what was the point? And then Sven talking about her powers like she's some badass was just silly because her power is basically just absorbing knowledge.
With the bad guy behind everything exposed and dealt with, does that mean this series is done? I really hope not because while I didn't care much for this one, I really liked most of the others. And I definitely love Maccus. So I'm hoping more for sure.
I was surprised about myself and how I would feel about this book read. I actually liked it. First of Sven was a hot god like protecter that I think that any woman wouldn’t mind having. The action was very entertaining and passed some the time while reading the book. The narrative and characters dialogue was engaging. The book didn’t read like a young adult book loaded with teenage issues. This book stayed very close to the adult version of a fantasy romance novel.
Great next chapter to the Forgotten Brotherhood series! This story follows Sven on his quest to find Rivka, who is an angel who found herself in the middle of the battle between Gabriel and the Brotherhood. As soon as the two come face to face, there is an undeniable connection. As the two globetrot in search for answers, the truth comes out, and there is a showdown at the end. Svan and Rivka grow closer, and Sven has a hard time reconciling his need for control with Rivka's badassness.
While not explicitly said, the ending could serve as a nice wrap-up to the series.
In the 'Forgotten Brotherhood' series this is the sixth book
And at all of them I recommend you take more than a look!
As these paranormals unexpectedly meet their mate
Whilst also having a mystery and battle with fate.
This time Rivka is an angel on the run
After being set up to look guilty for something she hadn't done.
Being chased by angels and the Brotherhood, too,
She's determined to discover who framed her if she can do.
Sven Knutson is the Brotherhood member on her trail,
A Viking hunter, he's never been know to fail.
But Rivka is different, he's attracted to her, too,
So he's not quite so sure just what he should do.
Battles with angels, surprises galore
This story kept me turning pages once more.
A fascinating, fast paced read,
Just what I was looking for and need!
I've thoroughly enjoyed every book in the series and so
Have no hesitation in highly recommending you give them a go!
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
And hope you enjoyed this, my honest review.
This was one wild adventure. So much action that the pages were flying. I look forward to every new book from this series. I don’t know if this is the last book but I really hope not.
Rivka has been in hiding from some very powerful beings. She’s searching for the truth.
“Your. Love. Is. The. Most. Precious. Gift.” “You can’t take it back.”
Sven Knutson is one of the beings hunting her. As soon as he sees her his protective instincts come out. As they search for the truth they grow closer.
His deep voice slid inside her like hot fudge over ice cream, melting all resistance.
Rivka just wanted to be more than a heavenly Librarian but someone set her up to take the fall and now she's trying to clear her name and reputation. Sven is an immortal Viking warrior. He wants revenge on the dastardly Angel who tried to mess with the Forgotten Brotherhood.
I loved learning more about Sven, the new relationship he has with his parents and his work with the Forgotten Brotherhood. He's all Alpha male but he has a tender heart - you just don't see it often under all that muscle! Rivka had a powerful if boring position in Heaven. She was the guardian of the library but she wanted to get to know Humans and really help them - not just read about it. But now she's on the run with both the Brotherhood and Angels after her. Can she convince Sven of her innocence and gain his help or will he just take his revenge?
Rivka and Sven may on the surface be opposites, she's the intellectual and he the instinctual warrior but Rivka is no simpering damsel. She has a power of her own - even if she doesn't think so. I loved the camaraderie, covered in grumpiness, that the Brotherhood has and the mates are helpful to the newer mates - assisting them with fitting in and learning how to manage these warriors!
Intense chemistry, engaging personalities, and never a dull moment. I really love this series and really hope that it continues for a good while yet!
Sven is the son of Bjorn, a nordic werewolf from a previous book who is a longtime member of the Forgotten Brotherhood. Now a member himself, Sven is the former right hand and Viking assassin of Freya, and Rivka is the “librarian” of angels. Rivka and her angel foundation was used as a tool to wake up Lucius the dragon from the previous book. She’s on the run as Sven and the Brotherhood are searching for those like her who are interfering with their lives. It doesn’t take long for Sven to realize she was used and together they go on the run to clear her name. I enjoyed this one much more than the past few. Rivka was a gentle and likable heroine. As the common tie and leader of the Brotherhood, Makkus makes an appearance but I really miss not having the others involved. This is the. 6th book in the series and there’s not an obvious character for a future book. I’m curious if this is the finale or the start of a new direction in this world.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Fantastic!
Rivka is a fascinating character; she is fun, sweet, genuine, unique and strong. She and Sven make a great team and I Iove how they find their way.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
A angel on the run being framed for a crime she didn’t commit and the immortal viking sent to hunt her down. Viking hunter Sven Knutson has spent six months hunting and tracking the angel responsible for compromising the Forgotten brotherhood and waking the drakon, she must be captured and questioned. Yet she keeps slipping his fingers, and this is the first time since... well, ever that his prey has escaped him. Rivka is an angel who only wanted to serve on Earth and help humans, instead things go horribly wrong and now she’s being hunted and she doesn’t even know why. With both Heaven’s dangerous elite guard and a member of the Brotherhood hunting her down for answers she doesn’t know who she can trust and how long she can keep running before it’s too late. When she runs into Sven while working under one of her fake identities she knows the game is up and what surprises her even more is that he wants to protect her. From the moment he laid eyes on Rivka, Sven has become obsessed. With someone powerful hunting her down he is determined to keep her by his side and figure out what is going on, and despite how much he denies it, he is falling for her. Rivka has never known love and has never considered herself good enough or desirable enough, yet the way Sen looks at her and protects her, makes her hope that maybe there is a chance. Yet the more they dig into the mystery of who is framing Rivka and trying to kill her to cover something up the more dangerous things become and the less time they have together. Their love was never meant to be but Sven will fight Heaven and Hell to get his angel and he just might have to. This is a part of a series but can be read as a standalone, I did read two books in the series but I did not read them all and had no problem with following the story. Overall it was okay but I guess I wanted something more from the relationship and romance aspect for them. The overall mystery of why Rivka was being framed was okay but it does feel rather like not much is happening. Overall, an okay read for fans of angels and vikings and instalove.
*Thanks Netgalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC, Entangled: Amara for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
*Received a copy for review.*
I love this series. It is the perfect distraction from the world.
I been wondering about the Angel who caused havoc in a previous book. I was hoping for a redemption arc. I love a “road-trip” on the run forced proximity/light kidnap, I will protect you even if I die storyline.
Both characters were great. The book aspect was also familiar in an excellent way.

Good story though a little slow at times. I really enjoyed the characters. Meeting new characters and seeing old familiar ones too. Good intrigue.
