First, I want to thank Catherine Miller, Bookouture, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
WOW!!! I read Her Sister’s Promise on the way to spend a belated Christmas in Pittsburgh with my sister !! The emotions I felt reading this book were just unreal! Ohh you had me running to hug my Sister a little tighter after what I just read! This is a very beautiful written book that is full of emotion with so many great messages. This truly deserves more than 5 stars!
Catherine’s prologue was incredibly powerful, deep, fascinating and instantly I was hooked! In Her Sister’s Promise Catherine explored the strong and special bond that only twins experience. This book tested this bond on many different levels.
I absolutely adored that both girls Jodi and Harper both were passionate about dancing and performing!
There was one moment in the book where I was totally caught off guard!! I literally jumped and screamed!! Ugly tears ran down my face and my heart just broke!! It was something that replayed slowly in my head like something in a movie!
In Her Sister’s Promise I felt a connection with both sisters. Harper because my Brother in Law is a quadriplegic after a tragic accident two years ago. It is a life changing event for both he and Harper! Like Harper he too is a fighter and goes to physical therapy to get stronger! I related to Jodi because I wanted to be there for him.
Thank you Catherine for including a disabled character into your storyline. Very few authors write about this population and that is sad. We (I am disabled with migraines and chronic pain from scoliosis) in my opinion should be represented more in books.
Congratulations Catherine for marrying your long time partner Ben!!
Her Sister’s Promise is a book that must be added to your TBR list for 2023!
Thanks for letting me read this ARC.
What can I say about this book? It's gripping, inspiring, stomach turning, filled with love, desperation and hope.
Identical twins, Jodie and Harper have spent their lives in each others pockets, inseparable until one night everything changes and both have to redefine their lives independently from each other.
Harper has to learn to live her life from scratch, Jodie has to learn to live her life on her own. Mainly set in London, both sisters are passionate dancers. They remain two halves of the same coin and yet everything is different. The story is told from eithers perspective. Jodie's struggle is no less than Harpers. It was simply different and less obvious. Can their twintuition save the day, the present and the future?
Catherine has done it again, another page turning, compelling read. It's a tough act to follow as my first book of 2023. Last year The Crash remained in my top three of 2022, that's how incredible the writing is.
Identical twins know what is happening with their counterpart.
Jodie and Harper have have always been together. They understand and just know how each other feels and when one is in trouble.
Then--- an evening mistake causing a serious injury to Harper. Nothing will ever be the same.
Now- she and Jodie need to separate for a period of time to allow Harper to move forward with her recovery.
A lot can happen in only six weeks.
This is the beautiful journey of life and survival for two young women, the same and yet different.
I enjoyed this novel and I definitely needed tissues at times.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for this Arc and allowing me to read and provide my own review.
Well done!
The title of the book certainly fits the story so well.
A very interesting story about twins, Harper and Jodie. They are pretty much connected to each other in everything they do. When one twin is injured in a freak accident, the other twin feels lost. Can they overcome their separation and time apart? Will they find a way back to each other?
A very emotional and heartfelt story with well developed characters.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Sister’s Promise’ by Catherine Miller in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Identical twins Harper and Jodie are taking part in a dance production at a London theatre when Harper is hit by a black cab while crossing a road resulting in her suffering spinal injuries. They’re separated for the first time in their lives as Harper is an inpatient at a rehabilitation clinic while Jodie searches for work and a place to stay, but although they decide to have minimal contact for six weeks both are finding it increasingly difficult to live without each other.
‘Her Sister’s Promise’ is a beautifully written family drama that tells of the challenges faced by a disabled woman for whom dancing is her life, and her twin sister who gets involved with people who may not have her best interests at heart. The story is told in alternate chapters by Harper and Jodie who allow themselves to keep in touch for the first six weeks by messaging just three words each day. Ms Miller has written a wonderful story with an inner depth that’s kept me gripped and perfectly described characters that are brought to life on each page. The epilogue is the icing on the cake and a heart-warming end to such an amazing story. This is the second novel I’ve read by this talented author and I can’t wait for the third.
Twins Harper and Jodie must face a new reality and changed future when Harper is paralyzed in traffic accident. Once both were dancers but that dream is gone now for Harper, who focuses on her rehab. Jodie's having a tougher time than she thought she would- not only does she feel her her twin is lost to her as Harper focuses on herself, she's also lost her joy. Miller does a nice job with making both women feel real and the reader feel their distress as well as their efforts. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.
Her Sister's Promise by Catherine Miller is excellent. This was a very heartfelt story. The chapters alternated between twins Harper and Jodie. I really liked the storyline and the characters. The characters were credible, and the story was gripping. There were times my heart was racing to get through the scene to find out what would happen.
After a tragic accident, Harper struggles to face the heartbreaking reality of never walking, let alone dancing, ever again. And when she starts to distance herself from Jodie, saying it’s too painful watching her follow their dream, Jodie is in pieces and tries to adjust to her new life on her own. Jodie has never done anything without Harper by her side, and suddenly Jodie feels alone in the world. Harper is also trying to adjust to her new life and puts parameters on her interactions with Jodie. She wanted to give Jodie "permission to continue with her life without" Harper holding her back.
I still continue to think about this book and these characters. I thought the author did a wonderful job of showing how Harper and Jodie tried in their own ways to come to terms with how their lives changed. The characters were well-developed, and the story flowed nicely and was captivating.
I would highly recommend this book and this author. A definite 5 out of 5 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
The book is about twins, two sisters, one sister is involved in an accident, after which they both part ways, one of them goes to a rehabilitation centre, the other carries on dancing, something they both loved to do.
Both sisters are finding being on their own hard to come to terms with. Whilst one trying to get better and doing things on her own, the other wishes they were both together.
It was intriguing to see how both sisters began to cope on their own after what happened, and finding ways to fill the space the other one left.
I felt the story was well written and a tear jerker.
I enjoyed reading this book.
I recommend this book.
An enjoyable read that is well written with a compelling story and well developed characters. I couldn't put it down
Thank you Net Galley for an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I was caught up in this story emotionally with these identical twins having such a bond. One is hurt physically and fights hard to overcome all the obstacles she has to deal with after a horrible tragedy. The other twin can’t seem to function without being with her twin daily.. I really enjoyed this book. There were parts that were pretty out there but I still kept wanting to see what happened. I wasn’t thrilled with the ending.
This is the 2nd Catherine Miller book i have read & certainly wont be the last. I really enjoyed the go between the two characters & their amazing bond between them. It was a very good read.
"Her Sister's Promise" is an emotional, well written book about an accident that temporarily separates twin sisters Harper and Jodie. One gets better while the other spirals downwards.
The book is very well written and had me turning pages to find out what happens. I only gave it 4 stars as it was a little predictable and the ending left a lot to be desired, other than that it was a good solid book!
I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read that, aside from a few spots, seemed more like a young adult read, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I would have preferred some more deep character development and perhaps more into Jodi's own issues, but overall it was an enjoyable read and I'd recommend it.

I suspected this was going to be a tear jerker from the blurb and it was. The author really brings her characters to life and makes you care about what they are all going through.
The way the twins adapt to their new reality as they learn to cope with what happened was interesting with each of them trying to find a way to fill the void left when time apart is what they need the most.
On finishing this book I feel like I have been through an emotional wringer following the lives in these pages. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and will continue to read this authors works as she really understands the motivations and emotions of her characters and delivers that effectively to the reader.
Vivid, expansive and richly imagined….. An absolutely heartbreaking and unforgettable read, perfect for fans of gripping family dramas, and for those who enjoy great storytelling. A four star read from me!
Her Sister's Promise
by Catherine Miller
Facing life without my best friend is harder than I thought, and don’t know who I can trust. And as my world begins to crumble, will Harper remember the promise she made to me when we were children? That she would always find her way back to me when I needed her, no matter what. I just hope she makes it in time…
OMG. I cried and felt for both. I smiled and wished for both. This book will rip you apart, but then make you smile. Life can be wonderful, magical, and brutal.
Unfairly, I too was a twin, I lost my own twin at 65 to cancer this year. It is and was a deep connection.
“Her Sister’s Promise” is a contemporary domestic book by Catherine Miller. The book tells the story of twins who must separate due to an accident - one goes to a rehabilitation centre and the other continues dancing. It’s the first time they are separated and both find it difficult to adjust. One sister, the one in rehab, is working on becoming stronger and learning how to get around on her own. The other sister flounders without her twin around her. I felt that the sections describing the rehabilitation work were thoughtful depicted the little that I know about rehabilitation centers. I also felt that while the sisters’ stories were clear to keep apart after a few chapters. What I wasn’t so pleased with was the bits of repeated information, especially about the text communication and the parents. I also never really felt like the two sisters - who are really close - communicated with each other well post accident. I also felt like someone should have suggested therapy to both sisters - both were affected by the accident - physically and emotionally.
Twin sisters have a special bond…they are dancers, but one gets hurt. They promise to stay close. Life intervenes…this talented and gifted author has written a family story with underlying themes. Sometimes things happen…enjoy this story of family and friends. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review.
