It’s always an issue of trust in any relationship. Distrust breeds discontent and anger. What if you are brought up to be in control of your situation, life, career and then things change. Things that seemed clear now appear blurred. And in SET UP IN THE CITY life became overly complicated and dangerous to boot.

We are off and running, not really a pun in this case, in the newest crime novel by my favorite B. J. Daniels. Her justice series is amazing and addictive. Can’t put them down. Each one an intriguing page turner, start to finish. I often try to figure out just where are we heading. I’ve learned to be patient, knowing Daniels has my back.

In SET UP IN THE CITY two terrific characters with little or nothing in common, except both good folk, team up to ferret out the culprit in a stream of murders. The immediate events seem random with just a hint of foul play. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover and in SET UP IN THE CITY don’t get caught up in the probabilities of circling around the killer and the next victim.

Willy Colt is one of four colt brothers. Willy is a deputy. His brothers run an investigation company. One thing about the Colt brothers is they stick together and have each other backs. When Willy is knocked out by someone who kidnapped the man he was bringing in for questioning it begins a series of events that at times befuddle him. The suspect was an arsonist who had stayed beneath the radar for a long time. But in his latest one a woman was killed. Why was a woman in an otherwise abandoned building. Why was Spark kidnapped. Too many unanswered questions.

Attorney Eleanor Shaffer was assigned Spark as her client. That has unfortunately put her right in the crosshairs of whom ever is looking to clear the field of anyone who could point a finger at them. Deputy Willy Colt was to escort Spark to Montana to sit before their courts. Now Eleanor and Willie find themselves on the run. Both share the desire to collect info on this case that gets more convoluted and complicated day by day.

B.J. Daniels outdoes herself, and that’s saying a lot, with this web of suspects and essence of dangerous predicaments. Watching Eleanor and Willie trudge through the muck and mire of their discoveries is exhausting and exciting. Don’t even try to figure out who are the bad guys. My list kept getting updated and I wasn’t even close. The e-book version of SET UP IN THE CITY contains two separate stories. The second being Rescue at Cardwell Ranch. I read and reviewed the second story many years ago.

Loved this story. Great characters that on paper are worlds apart. But sometimes the heart has different plans. Plot had some mystery, suspense, little action and romance, and lies and deceit. Pretty much everything I look for in a suspense.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Different setting, same amount of danger. A country cowboy and a big city lawyer have nothing in common or do they. Seems things throw them together and the tension, danger and romance kept me reading. Part of a series with the fourth son finding a HEA you might think this is the last book in the series but surprise a bother comes out this year.

This book will grab you from the first sentence and you can't put it down. The characters will intrigue you as you get to know them. There's lots of twists to unravel. Very enjoyable read

Things aren’t going well for Deputy Willie Colt. The prisoner he was trying to extradite from Seattle, Washington, back to Lonesome, Montana, goes missing when their vehicle is attacked, and Willie is left unconscious. When he confronts the man’s lawyer, Eleanor Shaffer, he doesn’t get the answers he wants. Things go from bad to worse as he hunts for his prisoner and tries to figure out who would want the man and why. Local law enforcement can’t be trusted and want Willie to leave town, and his job back home is in jeopardy. Willie and Eleanor must join forces and the more they uncover, the more dangerous things become for both of them. The more time they spend together and get to know each other, the more they come to care for each other. However, his home is in the wide-open spaces of Montana and she’s a city girl through and through. Although they say opposites attract, is there any way the two of them could have a future together?

Twists, turns, danger, suspense, lies, deceit, money, power, corruption, and more.

I figured out who the guilty party was before the story told us.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Set Up in the City by B.J. Daniels Colt Brothers Investigation #4 An enjoyable feel-good romance with a dash of suspense. As mismatched as Willie and Eleanor were, it was difficult to to relate to them as a couple.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book
