The Snowcat Prince has an interesting premise and it delivers on it quite well.
With beautiful and colourful art, the author bring these characters to life with a tener heart.
It's a story that works great for its intended audience and shows a lot of promise for the future of everyone involved in its creation.
Very sweet and fun story. Love the cover especially, as it entranced my kids immediately! They enjoyed the story as well, and I was entertained by it while reading to them.
✨What is this graphic novel about?
This novel is about the adventure of the youngest snowcat prince, Syv, in finding the long-lost magical crown that once belonged to the Eldking, which is their royal ancestor. Tricked by his brothers after their father’s death, he embarked on the journey with risk. From the legend, if he succeeds, he will break the curse on their land and bring honor to the family. If he fails, Syv will be marked with three black stripes and banished from their land forever. Along his journey, he will get a new friend, dangerous beasts, dark powers, and their sworn enemies, sand foxes. However, when he discovers the truth to the legend, he needs to learn back what is honour and how to break the curse.
✨What attracted me to this novel?
The cover. The cute seventh prince, Syv. Okay, the description is also interesting to me.
✨My thoughts?
I would say the storyline is quite common because this is a children’s fiction, and usually books in this genre have adventure elements in their storyline. However, the strength of this graphic novel is the illustration. I mean in terms of the drawing and the colouring used are clear and vivid, suitable for the intended audience. The storyline is told in a simple way, making it easier for me to gett the intended messages. A message that I liked is sometimes we have to accept that we may not be on the right side or not knowing the real truth of something we believed for quite some time. But, we have to accept it before thinking of our next step.
✨Last thought?
Actually, I would recommend this book generally, to anyone interested. I can see this as a sort of bedtime story and for learning English by reading for beginners. This opinion is coming from a non-native English speaker. For me, the combination of storyline and illustrations can attract readers and make them understand the story more. Lastly, thank you to the author for this lovely story.

Thank you Oni Press and NetGalley for this ARC! This review was voluntarily written by me.
I'm definitely not the intended audience, but the illustrations were so captivating and beautiful that I just had to give it a read. And I'm glad I did! It was a quick read (for me), had a fun plot with a cast of endearing characters, and the creature and world designs are so unique and bold.
5 Stars - The Snowcat Prince is such an adorable young reader/middle-grade graphic novel. The art is beautiful and colorful, and the friendship is super lovely. The story is clean, with no real violence depicted. The story is close enough to a Pixar style that kids would feel at home reading it, but the art is 10000% more beautiful than any kid's movie I've ever seen. I can't recommend this one high enough. This would be excellent in a school library or a classroom.
Thanks to the publisher for a review copy!

Summary:
Syv is a snowcat - a majestic feline that rules the northern kingdom - and is the most favored by the people, much to his brothers’ annoyance. When their father dies and the seat of the throne opens, the other princes conspire to get rid of Syv to increase their chances at the throne. So, they task Syv to retrieve the crown of the Eldking, their legendary royal ancestor. This ancient snowcat ruled the land with power and grace, but when the evil sand foxes - creatures of darkness and danger - attacked the kingdom, the Eldking created a crown to amplify his power to drive back the foxes. Then one day, he disappeared, and a great snowstorm descended upon the kingdom ever since. The crown is the key to breaking this perpetual curse. Many snowcats have the Eldking and his crown but never return, and their failure is marked with three great scars on their back. But Syv believes he can find it, and so he sets out on an epic journey across the lands, encountering corrupt beasts, sly foxes, wary villagers, and a wild girl named Kit who is more than she appears. Does Syv have the honor and bravery to retrieve the crown and restore order to his kingdom? Or do the sand foxes have a few tricks up their sleeves?
What I Liked:
The Snowcat Prince is an epic tale of a young boy who wants nothing more than honor and peace in his kingdom, and his willingness to fight for his people. The art is vibrant, bold, and colorful, bringing out the crispiest blues and whites for the snowcats and the wintry lands, and the fiery reds and oranges for the sand foxes and deserts. The lush scenery, vivid magic, and majestic environments will pull readers in and keep them awed until the story is finished. Syv is an excellent protagonist - nervous yet brave, shy yet stands up for others, uncertain yet willing to see new perspectives, and overall, honorable. An innocent and intelligent character, readers will root for Syv to find the truth of the Eldking and make the right choice to save his people, his kingdom, and his new friends. Kit is also a fun support character, mysterious in origin but willing to help out the strange snowcat far from home. The color contrast between Syv’s blue coat and Kit’s orange hair makes both characters pop off the page as well, and pop against each other, a cool design choice to see in comics. Overall, a wonderful read for kids who love fantasy graphic novels.
What I Didn’t Like: Nothing
Recommend to: Kids who like fantasy, animals as protagonists, and graphic novels. The Wings of Fire: Graphic Novel series and the Dragon Kingdom of Wrenly series are good read-alikes.

I had a tough time putting this graphic novel down. The story begins with a bit of a history lesson, one that kind of has a tragic end to it. Then we cut to years later, after the king has passed away. A young kitten is given a dangerous quest to try and find a long lost family relic. Along the way they fight deadly monsters and uncover a dark family secret. Yet as this tale comes to a close, something magical ends up happening.
The Snowcat Prince is a heartwarming tale about finding the true meaning of courage and honor.
First, I thought the art was imaginative and created a unique world with intriguing boundaries and inhabitants. However, the dialogue and written storytelling did not feel as though they were given the same development as the art. The story structure is tried and true: the sheltered hero goes off to save the day and learns about their world and history in the process. Despite the well-rounded world on the page, the dialogue creates flat characters and plain word choices for fantastical elements. This might not be an issue for some, but “bad aura” being the most threatening power in this world pulled me out of the book.
Although the characters felt underdeveloped and flat, overall the emotional payoff still made an impact. The second half of this book does seem stronger in storytelling than the first, but it never loses its “banking on emotional but unearned story beats” vibe. If you like stories about going on a journey and having your eyes opened to the real world plus adorable character designs, you’ll probably enjoy this book, but there isn’t much substance beyond that.
Thank you to Netgalleyv and Dina Norlund for the ARC. Such a beautiful story of finding yourself and your path, regardless of what you are told it should be. I loved it, I just wish it was a bit longer so I could see more of friendship development between Syv and Kit.
A lovely book full of beautiful illustrations, perfect for reluctant readers.
We follow Syv the snowcat prince as he journeys across the land to find a long lost magical crown and the Eldking. Along the way he learns some truths and how to break the curse.
The perfect example of how bravery and kindness can conquer evil.
This was so cuteeee!! I would have given it five stars but the story was a little bit predictable. The artwork is amazing. I would love a print of some of the pages. The pacing was pretty good for how short this was. I would love another volume set in this world, that would be really fun.
This is probably the most adorable thing I read this year. The Snowcat Prince is colourful, vibrant, heartfelt and compelling. The art style is absolutely gorgeous and Syv is one of my new favourite middle-grade characters.
He is just so fluffy, how can you not fall in love?
I loved the worldbuilding in this graphic novel, it packs so much in to so few pages, but not in a way that children will find overwhelming. This was still very consumable as an adult reader too.
Highly recommend for children and adults, cat lovers and fantasy folks. I have since ordered a physical copy of this one for both myself and my five-year-old nephew.
A cute adventurous story with absolutely gorgeous illustrations! Readers will enjoy following Syv on his quest from his brothers through twists, turns and betrayals as they jockey to see who will be the next king. Another graphic novel that I think will quickly become a hit in my middle school library.
If ever there was a book that you should judge by the cover, it's this one. There's a lot going on in that cover image alone. We see two worlds, red toned and blue; a glowing eyed, long fanged beast; a crown that glows with power; and most importantly, a cute, large-eyed cat that radiates innocence. All of these elements play an important role in this plot about power, family, history, and duty. The plot is strong and the art is even stronger. Even better, this is a book that you can read several times and take something different away with each read.
Thank you to Netgalley & Oni Press, for the ARC. I was approved for this quite some time ago and I am catching up on much overdue reviews now!
I wanna start off by saying that the artwork is absolutely beautiful. It's very colorful and vibrant and I enjoyed that so much. The story was enjoyable and engaging as well. Lots of fun adventure and interesting characters the Snowcat Prince meets along the way.
I believe a lot of young people would like this story. I would enjoy hand selling it to kids as well. Overall a fun middle grade adventure.
4 stars!
Cute, colorful and fun graphic novel- readers of all ages are sure to enjoy!!
The smallest snowcat embarks on an adventure to find the lost crown. Along the way he makes a new friend, a fox and learns quite a bit about life along the way.
A very quick, enjoyable read!! The illustrations are sure to capture the attention of even the most resistant reader.
Grateful to have received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley & Oni Press.
This is a graphic tale about snowcats and foxes. It's fantasy and fun to read.
Hushbird let me read this book for review (thank you). It will be published February 20th.
The smallest snowcat is sent out to find the crown the Eldking wears. He runs into Kit who is actually a fox but has shape shifted into a girl.
The snowcat doesn't know all the dangers out in the wild but he will learn.
The foxes are mean. He learns that soon.
He also finds the crown. The ending is good. I enjoyed reading it.
i loved this graphic novel for children as it has a very good underlying story which is that you should never judge someone before you make any judgements. I loved the characters in this story and the way that the author has told this is a way that all children will understand, I can not wait for the next story that the author tells and how they do it.
Both my 8 year old and 11 year old daughters enjoyed this fast, creative, cute, fun book. This is a new author for us, but we enjoyed it and will likely look for more of her work. Thank you!
An all ages tale about the Snowcats who are all greedy and lazy except for the youngest brother. He's sent by his brothers to find the long-lost crown which will name the next Erlking. Along the way, he makes a new friend, Kit, while finding out the truth of what humans think about the Snowcats. He also discovers the curse that afflicts their land. I found it a story that was enjoyable for those both young and old with terrific, vibrant art.
