I have been following Dina Norlund as an artist for years on YouTube and have been in love with her style. I think the story and the characters are super cute and something children would love reading. The adventure within it is so wonderful and Syv was such a kind and loveable character. I felt honored to get an ARC of this book on NetGalley, and I feel like everybody should give this story a read

I asked for this book because I found the cover to be beautiful, and the more I read it the more I fell in love with the art style! The colours are vibrant, the lines soft, the characters unique and amazingly drawn.

This is the story of Syv, seventh snowcat prince, the youngest and most beloved among the people. For thousands of years the snowcats have been in conflict with the sandfoxes, who are said stole the crown from a mythical snowcat king. The jealous brothers trick Syv into going on the impossible quest of getting the crown back: in doing so he would prove he is the rightful king and he would bring back an era of prosperity and joy. During his journey Syv meets a young girl called Kit, and together they venture forth.

I like the moral lesson that sometimes history is not like what you have been taught, that helping others can come at a cost, that differences and greed create hatred and misunderstandings, but it is never too late to change things for the better.

My thanks to Oni Press for a digital review copy via NetGalley of ‘The Snowcat Prince’ by Dina Norlund.

This is a stunning illustrated magical tale. I found it off the scale in terms of cuteness. On publication I purchased my own copy.

It is the story of Syv, the youngest of seven snowcat princes. After the death of their father all of the princes are in line for the throne. As Syv is proving very popular with the citizens of the snowcat kingdom his brothers send him on a dangerous quest to locate a long-lost magical crown of their ancestor, the Eldking. Talk about sibling rivalry!

Legend says that the snowcat who finds the crown will break the curse on their land and bring great honour to the family. Yet failure could lead to Syv being banished forever. During his journey he has to face the sand foxes - the sworn enemies of the snowcats. Along the way he meets Kit, a red-haired girl who calls him ‘Snowball’. She insists on joining him. It was a heartwarming story about bravery, honour, and loyalty. There’s also an important theme within the narrative about history.

I was entranced by Norwegian author Dina Norlund’s storytelling as well as her exquisite artwork. Syv is drawn as the cutest little cat with such expressive features. In addition, her use of colour was very effective: utilising a cool palette with white, silver, and blues for the snowcats and a warm palette with reds and oranges for the sand foxes.

In the Bonus Material Dina Norlund includes character sketches, maps, alternative covers, and details about the snowcats and sand foxes, including their magical powers.

‘The Snowcat Prince’ is a wonderful fantasy adventure that I am certain will appeal to readers of all ages.

I received a free copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review

With an adorable lead, [so cute I just wanna pet him] nicely drawn this adventure story following the prince Syv [Snowball!] is tricked by his thickhead brothers to find the Eldking a myth that can’t possibly exist…can it? How could you say no to Syv’s face? I know I couldn’t! This story is heartwarming as hell and manages to get a few tears out of me. I loved Kit immediately and despite it all, I want a sand fox of my own. Fully recommend.

Syv is regal, colorful, intelligent, friendly and he doesn’t even know how special he is. Illustrated and made alive in The Snow Cat Prince by Dina Norlund, Syv goes through finding friendship, being betrayed and learning a lot about himself. The imaginative drawings alone will pull you in to learn more about this character’s family and background. It is a sweet and original coming of age story with much symbolism and a few surprises. The colors utilized are vibrant and give meaning to the individual’s’ personality. In addition, the drawing style reminds me of old school Disney animation. In my opinion, the story could have been much longer, with more background to the snow cats’ family dynamics and legend. However this is a quick fantasy read for middle school age and older. Thank you to NetGalley for an ecopy of the story in exchange for my opinion on the publication.

It's such a cute story. I really enjoyed it and I can't wait to read it to my daughter. Also, it is a great reminder not to change our history to only show the good. We need both the good and bad in history to understand and make sure that it will never happen again. It's such a great story.

I am SO SAD that I didn't read this with my kid! I was fortunate enough to get an ARC, and read on my own...RIGHT before it expired. So now, I have to wait until release day. I told my kid I read a book about "The Snowcat Prince," and that title got her HOOKED. I spent the next half-hour retelling the story to her, and at the end, she wanted to hear it again.

So, the story is compelling, especially for a younger audience. A land of magic, ruled over by powerful cats, whose power has waned since glory days. Honor valued above all else. A quest for a powerful relic. Mischievous foxes blocking the way. An epic twist and ending that left me breathless.

The artwork is gorgeous, as well. Syv, the titular prince, is an adorable fluffball, and no wonder the people of his kingdom wish he'd become king. He looks so kind and huggable! The world is full of life and detail, movement and magic. And the COLORWORK! WOW!

I'm gonna BET this is the graphic novel that will push my child's reading level forward. I bet I'll read it to her once, and then she'll read it on her own, over and over. And I'm looking forward to my own re-read!

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me a copy to review. I had fun reading this with my son. I knew from the cover and description it was perfect for him but I didn't anticipate how much I would enjoy too.

From my 9 year old son : I really enjoyed the book. It was very nice. I thought that other things were going to happen but they didn't. I would recommend to kids around kindergarten to 6th grade or mabey higher.

Me: I really enjoyed the story and the art was amazing. The most beautiful pictures and it came with bonus art at the end. 😍
I believe it also teaches a vary important lesson, of there are two sides to evey story and that learning our history helps us make the best decisions in the future. I would recommend for cat lovers young and old.

A royal family of snowcats lose their father, of course the the youngest, smallest, and most gentle of them, Syv, is the most loved by the citizens of their land causing jealousy between all of the brothers. His father used to tell Syv the bedtime story about a powerful king with a magical crown, and with it’s help he banished and protected their lands from the cunning foxes. Syv’s brothers trick him into going on a dangerous quest by himself (because they are all ‘busy’) to find the Eldking’s crown. So he’s off on the adventure of a lifetime. On the way he meets a friend, learns somethings about other towns in his land that he never knew, that were hidden from him and his posh family. I highly recommend this book for anyone of any age, of course. But more specifically for younger readers, looking for a new grand adventure story with beautiful, clean, and bright art. I think I will show this book to fans of things like Amulet, Dragon Kingdom of Wrenly, Princless, and Bone.
I don’t want to go too in depth about this book because I don’t want to accidentally spoil anything, it has some predictable twists and turns, but still just a charming heart warming experience.
I think it would be a lot of fun to get more stories set in this world of so many creatures and magic living side by side with humans.

Free book from netgalley for review~~

Oh this was cute! Beautiful art of course (but I knew that going in-- I've followed the artist and writer on youtube for a while) and I was excited when I saw the artist's name.

Nice quest and friendship, this one's just a comforting feel good fantasy read. It feels like the type of book I would have loved when I was younger. I only wish there had been more of it, as some of the plot feels just a tad rushed but that could be me. There's only so much you can fit into this format of a book after all!

I would like to thank Oni Press and NetGalley for granting me this ARC in exchange for writing an honest review!

Another bedtime favorite comic read.

This little comic is about a snowcat prince and all he was guilty of is being a genuine person. I loved the art as it was marvelous and intriguing. Reading this was such a comfort as it's one of those comfort-to-read comics. This book is about friendship, proving yourself, power, and so much more. I would recommend this as it can be eye-opening and entertaining to kids. I read this to my little brother with voice acting and we both fell in love.

Dina Norlund's The Snowcat Prince is a treasure.

It is a wonderfully-illustrated cosy adventure story about a young snowcat named Syv whose corrupt older siblings send him off to recover a stolen treasure to get him out of the way when their father dies, hoping that he won't come back. The treasure is a crown, believed to have been stolen by the snowcats' age-old enemies, the sandfoxes. Returned to snowcat custody, it will grant their king the ability to bond with the heart of their mountain home and restore prosperity to their failing, freezing people. (Note: snowcats live in the same settlements as humans, but the current generation holds themselves aloof unless bribed into helping with gold.)

Syv sets off on his adventure and soon meets a strange youngster who introduces herself as Kit (yes, I could see where this was going because I'm an adult, but I didn't mind) and latches onto him, helping him cross the borders between realms and standing by his side as he faces his fears. Kit is a good, supportive friend, even attempting to reassure Syv that he is still a good person when he uses a power he didn't know he had and in so doing develops a stripe that his people consider a mark of shame and lost honor.

The story unfolds at just the right speed and manages to be sweet without crossing into sickly or saccharine. Syv has a lot to learn about the complexities of life and even his long-held beliefs, but he is brave and kind-hearted and emerges triumphant, the reader rooting for him the whole time. Some of why it was so easy as a reader to cheer for the naif is a personal aversion to seeing cats or feline-shaped creatures suffer, but a lot of it has to do with the story's art, which is delightful. Subtle details show expressions, build up the world, and make the tale immersive and engaging, but even non-subtle things, like Syv's gigantic eyes and Kit's pinkish glow (both of which emphasize the youth and vulnerability of the characters), are done so well it's easy to appreciate them.

At the end of the volume, after the story ends, there are pages about character design which also touch on a bit of lore: how snowcat names work, why there seem to be no female snowcats in the story, why sandfoxes are able to use their magic more easily, and what it really means for an aura to be corrupted. I ate it up and delighted in the bonus artworks.

I believe this book has nearly universal appeal. The colors and story will appeal to young readers, a lot of what I mentioned above will please older readers, and parents will appreciate that there's very little in the way of violence or terror. I have enjoyed this graphic novel more than just about anything I've read in ages, and since I missed its original Kickstarter campaign I am eagerly looking forward to being able to purchase it in print when it becomes available.

I requested this book purely because of the artwork. It was giving 2010 Warriors Cats fanart vibes and I just had to see what the story was like. My only complaint is that this wasn't multiple books. Each chapter EASILY could have been a whole book by itself with a nice 5-6 book series.

It's a simple story for kids, but with a great message. A little prince, looked down upon by his brothers is sent into the wide, scary world to complete an impossible quest because they want him gone. The artwork is incredible, the colors super rich, and the story is all-around great. Totally recommend for fans of animal-based stories, and I hope more gets added to this universe.

I want to start by thanking Netgalley and Oni Press for an ARC of this title to review. My reviews are always honest and all opinions are my own. #OniPress #NetGalley #TheSnowcatPrince #DinaNorlund #BookReview #GraphicNovelReview

I need to start this review by saying that if we have any type of ‘cat’ be it a magical snowcat or just a moggy I am going to be invested! I partly blame my mother for reading the likes of Meg and Mog, Smoke and Fluff and other ladybird classics like five little kittens. What I can say though is that even without the Snowcat I am pretty sure this would have caught my attention with the beautiful and stunning illustration and story. Add the cutest protagonist ever, Syv the titular Snowcat Prince, and I would give this a hundred stars out of five if I could!

The Snowcat Prince isn’t just a story of bravery, honour and the idea of kindness it is a mythical and original tale that could be up there with fairytales of old. To break a curse on the kingdom, the youngest Snowcat Prince, Syv, sets out on a dangerous quest to find the long-lost magical crown of his ancestor and learn the true meaning of honour and bravery.

Syv is the youngest in a family of Snowcat Princes. Unlike some monarchies when their father dies all the princes are in line to the throne. Eager to become king themselves and wary of how well liked Syv is by the people of the kingdom the brothers devise a plan to get rid of their brother by sending him on a dangerous quest to find the long lost magical crown that belonged to their ancestor, the Eldking. The crown will break the curse on the kingdom but should Syv earn three black marks from being dishonest he may be banished forever.

Along his journey Syv faces dangerous beasts, suspicious and unkind townsfolk, dark powers and the ever-lurking sand foxes – sworn enemies of the snowcats. He is joined on his quest by the easy going human Kit who may not be all they appear to be and the pair begin to form a bond as they face increasing dangers. But when Syv finally discovers the truth about the legend of the Eldking and his magical crown, he’ll learn the new meaning of honour and find a new way to break the curse while keeping those he cares for safe.

I want to say I found something wrong with this but I didn’t! Everything about this graphic novel is perfect from the illustrations to the character creation and plot. It is all contained perfectly within the novel and while I would love to learn more and read more about Syv and Kit I am happy with how their stories intertwined and ended.

Like I already said the story itself is worthy to be added to the collection of beloved fairy-tales and fables with it’s message of bravery, honour and kindness winning all. I honestly adored this so much I have already pre-ordered a physical copy to add to my graphic novel collections and I cannot wait to see how beautiful this looks in person. If you want a heart-warming tale of friendship, bravery and with a generous helping of adventure and magic this is definitely for you.

This was such a great graphic novel. The illustrations are amazing and I really loved the vibrant colors. The story line was good and easy to follow. At some points I wished it would have shown the aura infecting the environment it bits because it happened so suddenly and made me think, 'this came out of no where.' Overall, I enjoyed it and I would love to add a physcial copy to my graphic novels collection. It's beautiful.

The Snowcat Prince by Dina Norlund is simply the cutest graphic novel I have ever read. Syv is super cute and I love his facial expression. The colours of this story are calming, and vibrant and I adore the author's drawing style. To be honest, I would like the story longer, I do have not enough of this world and magic. Many times I felt touched. It reminded me of my childhood love of the Lion King and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to review this book - thank you NetGalley and Oni Press!

Thanks to Oni Press and Netgalley for an ARC of this book!

An extremely charming children's graphic novel! I thought the plot was suitably straightforward enough for a young child to easily grasp, without being condescendingly simplistic for slightly older children. The writing pulled at certain places, just a little awkward, dialogue a little stilted, but overall it was nothing that kept me from enjoying the story.

Where The Snowcat Prince really shines though is in the art. This is the sort of book I would have read as a little kid that would have made me want to copy the characters down over and over again on printer paper trying to get my drawings to look like that. It's really a beautiful style, and I can definitely see the look of it being absolutely enchanting for a young reader. I mean, I'm in my 20s and I'd definitely put a piece by Norlund up on my wall. I'll definitely be looking for more stories from this author and recommending them to young readers in my life!

Once upon a time, there was a great snowcat who was in battle against the cunning foxes. He and his magical crown disappeared, and the foxes cursed the snowcats with three black stripes if they dishonored their cathood. Many years later, a young snowcat sets out on a quest to save the crown, but he finds that not all is as he expected, and he must make a decision whether to do what's right or go along with the crowd.

A surprisingly deep moral for a book that mostly reminds me of Lisa Frank (in a good way, I promise!). Although the first chapter was a bit contrived, the plot is paced well and includes some thought-provoking details that almost brought me to tears when I pondered them too hard. The artwork is stunning, and the cats cute and noble. This book is really perfect for fans of Avatar: the Last Airbender and similar stories.

Thank you to Oni Press and NetGalley for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
