This is part of a long series. The pacing of this book was perfect. There are lots of characters but it is easy to follow what is happening. The ending tied all the loose ends up

💥Nick Louth isn’t someone who hangs about. We are immediately thrown into the action with Craig Gillard’s partner, Sam, at the centre of an attack. From here the action just kept coming!

🕵🏻It was great to be back in the folds of the team. As always the investigation took many twists and turns, the pacing was spot on and the revelations were timed brilliantly!

🚓With a whole cast of shady suspects I didn’t know how everything would wrap up, but Nick Louth threw a few surprises in and I hadn’t guessed what the heist was about at all.

⭐This was another great addition to the series. I’m sad to see the series is going to draw to a close with the next instalment but I’m excited to see what the final book brings.

Great series, and great writing! Really enjoyable book by Nick Louth who is now a must read author!

The Body in the Shadows is the 11th procedural thriller featuring DCI Craig Gillard by Nick Louth. Released 19th Jan 2023 by Canelo, it's 287 pages and is available in paperback, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats.

This is a very well written procedural with a well established ensemble cast. Despite being the 11th book in the series, the plot is self contained and the necessary character backstories are written in, so it works well enough as a standalone. These are returning characters and their interrelationships have developed over time, so some spoilers are inevitable if read out of order, however.

It's a modern procedural thriller, so there is some on-page violence and rough language. Not egregious and certainly not off-putting, but it's there (i.e., not a cozy mystery). There are 11 books extant at this point. It would make a good choice for a buddy read, or series binge read. All the books are well written and tightly plotted. Fans of Deborah Crombie, Cynthia Harrod-Eagles, and Anne Cleeves (Jimmy Perez books, not necessarily Vera) will find a lot to like here as well.

This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series!
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.
Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down.
Can't wait to read more of these.

This is my first book from Nick Louth.... I finished the first chapter and I stopped..... I could not read any longer.... I had to read this series from the very beginning!!!!!
The DCI Craig Gillard series is simply spectacular and very informative as Nick Louth's CV is pretty impressive: a foreign correspondent for Reuters, working in New York, Amsterdam, London and Hong Kong. He was also a freelance from 1998-2014, and wrote for the Financial Times, Investors Chronicle, Money Observer and MSN.
The series are simply spectacular and deserve to be read from the beginning particularly since you get to find out how DCI Craig Gillard met his amazing wife Sam who is now pregnant and was attacked at a shopping centre.
The whole series is very satisfying on a multi dimensional point of view: great character developments of main characters and secondary characters, great knowledge of the crime underworld, great setting of London and the suburbs.
This is a first class series and a must of any police procedurals, crime mystery lovers.

I've read books in this series (this is book 11) for a bit, and I think this just might be my favorite. It's a tale of an intricate old-school/new-school way of not only policing but how crime is undertaken. It also is a book that properly resonates with the concept of 6 degrees of separation. How can one seemingly random incident relate to a case at the Flying Squad? As the murders pile up, and the potential for a huge crime to be committed, Gillard is up against the clock, with a possible date for the crime to happen, to solve the connections and make the arrests. It's a fast-paced read and one you will love if you like police procedurals!

I never repeat the blurb. This series is very much hit and miss for me. The previous book was superb but this was so protracted that I couldn't even face finishing it. Sorry.

Having read several books by Nick Louth, including several from this, the DCI Craig Gillard series, I am looking forward to this, the eleventh book in the series.

After a slightly slow build up, suddenly the story had me gripped after a few chapters From then onwards I really enjoyed the fast pace of this carefully crafted police procedural novel.

There are plenty of superb characters in the book, both criminal, incidental and on the police investigation team.

It is difficult to say much about the story lines for fear of spoiling the plot for the reader. I will settle for saying it involves a huge crime by a bunch of old lags. However, everything isn't as clear cut as may at first appear.

The novel is set in London and in it's suburbs. Many of the locations are real, which gives the book a sense of geographical significance, which is enhanced by some interesting fictitious places.

There are plenty of twists and turns in the plot and the tension builds to a dramatic conclusion.

I rate this book as 4 stars. It is an enjoyable crime thriller with which to start the year

I absolutely love Nick Louth. Not only was this book one of my favourites of his so far. I even got a signed copy of his last book for Christmas!!

The DCI Gillard series has been a national treasure so far and I'm working my way through Nick's back catalogue now.

This book is so gritty, down to earth and real, it could easily be a rival for Line of Duty if it was turned into a TV series.

I absolutely love this series. Craig Gillard has to be my favourite crime detective. Body in the shadows involves a group of old school criminals hoping for one last big job. Old school bank robbers working with a tech savvy criminal plan the most unbelievable fraud netting them millions of pounds. As always the author goes into the most meticulous detail and clearly researched the technical aspects of this book. This always makes his stories so believable. I can’t wait to read the next instalment of this series. Thank you

A series that never fails to deliver, the DCI Craig Gilliard investigations are great entertainment. This time after his wife is attacked at a shopping centre and rumours of a major robbery by old South London gangsters the two investigations seem miles apart. But gradually links appear while the big crime turns out to be a scarily realistic scam . Murders, car chases, suspects being questioned all the classics are in this super atmospheric yarn. Excellent.

DCI Craig Gillard’s pregnant wife Sam is the victim of a mugging with an attempt made to throw her over the balcony in a shopping centre. At the same time, an informer tells Craig of a major heist being planned for just before Christmas, and as Craig joins forces with officers from the Met he still needs to find out the names of those involved, where it’s being carried out and on whom.
‘The Body In The Shadows’ is a well-written police procedural thriller with an involving plot. From an exciting start, the drama and intrigue have kept me interested and the twists and turns guessing as to the outcome. Not my favourite novel by this author but a good sound police thriller nonetheless that I can recommend.

Any story with Craig Gillard is a certainty for a good no great read as are all the others in this series. Can't wait for the next installment.

What looked to be an assault case gone dangerously close to murder, uncovered a
complicated series of events - murder, then a clever mastery of a seemingly
unbreakable system and millions robbed.

Part of a series, and I will be looking out for them, the story winds its way
through investigations and police procedures which reiterates the fact that most
mysteries are solved by sheer plodding. Witha soupcon of luck and a dash of
intuition.

This was an excellently crafted story with excellent detective work thrown in
It held me so interested that I finished it in one Sunday read. Descriptive especially
inner cities lifestyle (which for me looks so far removed from more genteel London)
was particularly good.

Another fantastic book in the Craig Gillard series. Interesting that this time it was a lot of new characters with just the odd reference to the existing team but it was as if they were part of the existing team all along. A great storyline that really has you hooked and wanting to read on until the book is finished. Highly recommended!
