This gives a cute glimpse of what a murder mystery party looks like. Pip s extremely likable and it left me wanting more. I wish it was not a novella but had more plot outside the murder mystery.
A prequel with Pip?!
Yes please!
This was a quick read but gives insight to Pip before she was solving cases. I loved it. A fun night and mystery.
Read this if you are having Good Girl’s withdrawal like I am!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review.
This was so much fun. Finishing the trilogy last year left me sad and missing Pip and her dramatic life. This was the perfect revisit to Pip’s mystery solving in such a fun way.
Loved the mystery, all of the characters being back were great, and the build up to the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder events were perfect. This was very reminiscent of Knives Out or Clue. Just can’t emphasize enough how fun this little novella was.
Thank you to Netgalley and Delacorte Press for the advanced copy!
I had really high hopes for this book. I ended up paying for the kindle version when it came out because I was having a hard time accessing the gifted copy from NetGalley. Anyway, I really do want to read Holly Jackson’s other books in hopes that I’m missing something. I will say, this book really did have me hooked because I was invested, but, the ending really threw me for a loop. It was a short read.
This was a fun little novella! I loved getting to see Pip solving a mystery again. It didn't add much to the original trilogy, but definitely worth the read if you liked AGGGTM! 3.5 stars
This was a fun novella. It's funny that with each book written in the series, I like Pip less and less. I feel if this would have come out before book 1, I would have never read the series.
But overall it was fine.
It was a good short story for teens. I enhoyed It since I have read the good girl series. Great novella to read in one sitting.
This is a great prequel to "The Good Girls Guide to Murder". A quick easy read that explains Pip's reasoning and fascination with solving the towns unsolved murder.
I have to say that I LOVED this whole series and was extremely excited when I received a copy of this book. I like how it ends on a cliffhanger, allowing the reader to want more. For me, mystery dinners have never been something that I've been interested in, so I didn't enjoy much of that, but tried to keep an open mind. I love what Ms. Jackson did with the book. I just wish this would have came out before everything else.
I’ve heard so many good things about AGGGTM, so I was over the moon to get a chance to start fresh with the prequel, Kill Joy (a novella) by Holly Jackson. I’m also a huge fan of all Thrillers. While YA Thrillers are not my typical genre, I found this to be refreshing and reminiscent of playing Clue as a kid.
Being entirely new to the series, Kill Joy helped introduce me to Pippa’s world of mystery and sets the stage for Pip’s future escapades. This was a quick and easy read that has inspired me to finish the remainder of the series.
I’ll most certainly be looking to add a Kill Joy physical copy to my collection!
Huge thanks to NetGalley, Random House Children's, and Delacorte Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A fun short story that has me excited to finally read this series. It’s thrilling and leaves you on the edge of your seat even though it’s just a fun murder mystery game. A good quick read!
I love Novellas! I also love when you get a prequel novella, really setting the stage for the series to come, and this is EXACTLY what this did. In addition, this prepares the reader for the series to come in addition to developing Pip as a character.
What a brilliant novella to introduce Pippa and the Good Girl’s Guide to Murder books. I had missed these characters since finishing the series, and this was great to revisit them. All of their personalities really came out in such a short story and the ending leads directly into the beginning of the first book! I was so excited to get the chance to read this, and the plot was so fun. A murder mystery dinner, which Pippa of course takes way too seriously! Highly recommend for any fans of the series.
I was missing Pippa so badly so I JUMPED at the chance to read this. This was such a cute enjoyable read about Pippa, before she started her podcast and solving major crime, she attended a murder mystery party set in the 1920's.
This prequel to A Good Girl's Guide to Murder was nothing like what I had expected and that made it even a better reading experience for me. Pipp and her friends each play different characters as they try to solve the mystery.
The mystery itself was fun and thrilling and the way it was all put together SO SMARTLY. The best part for me was, of course, just seeing Pipp work her magic again.
Overall, if you loved the series, this is a must read to revisit your favorite characters.
I love this whole series and loved this book! The sweet tension because I know what has happened in the series and the comments citing stuff that has occurred in the other books was perfect! Such a fun book with tension and a great back story to why Pip got the idea in the first place!
After having read the whole A Good Girl's Guide to Murder series, I was very excited about this prequel. I thought Holly used this book to set the scene for the events in the rest of the series without giving too much away. It also made me start looking at murder mystery kits because I want to throw a party like the one in the book!
It’s certainly not a secret that I wasn’t a fan of the final book in the A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder series, but I really enjoyed this prequel throwback! This book was released in 2021 in the UK, but just got its US release this week.
Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn’t quite researching cold cases yet, but her detective skills are developing at a murder mystery dinner party hosted by her good friend Connor. Pretending to be a 1920s caricature solving a murder on a remote British island is a little silly for Pip’s more logical disposition, but soon she’s sucked into the twists and turns of the case. Of course, any talk of murder— even the fictional kind— leads to Pip and her friends referencing the Andie Bell case. As the mystery goes on, it becomes clear that a fake murder investigation is about to have a major influence on how Pip sets her sights on the capstone project that changes her life forever.
For obvious reasons, the tone of this short is a lot lighter than most of the original series. It had the same energy as the first book in the series, which I adored. The little moments where Pip and her friends “broke character” during the game were easily the best bits. I really loved Pip’s big revelation in the end (and the direct aftermath) as it showed just how much of a true crime obsessive she really is.
Good, snarky fun all around! If anything, it left me even more disappointed in the final book, because it reminded me how charming and interesting these characters are and how much common sense they started out with.
This was a short little intro to Pip before the first book in the series. I didn't love this, but i think my expectations were too high since I love the Good Girls books so much.
Oh my gosh. What fun it was to be back in the world of Pippa! This book is set just before a Good Girls Guide to Murder and shows Pippa at a murder mystery party with her and her friends. Just who is the murder and why did they decide to do it?
I loved AGGGTM so much and it was so fun to get a small glimpse of Pip and the gang before it all began. Also I am a huge Holly Jackson fan because no one does YA thrillers like her and was so excited to get to read this one early!
Go grab this one, you will have so much fun reading it!
Thank you NetGalley for this fantastic ARC! I thoroughly enjoyed this prequel to the Good Girl's Guide to Murder series. It was a great look into the phenomenal mind of Pip and it provided a great lead into what started it all. This book could stand alone but is also a great intro to the series. Pip finds herself invited to a murder mystery party and we get another look at how her mind works as she tries to solve this who-done-it. I would highly recommend this book to any fan of this series.
