🩸 Kill Joy review 🔪
I loved it!!! This was such a fun prequel to A Good Girl Guide to Murder series. I devoured this novella in a day! I was right there beside Pip & her friends trying to solve the murder mystery game with them. It’s set just a month or so before GGGTM. You could totally read it before or after the series or just read it as a stand-alone book.
BRB… going to plan my murder mystery dinner party now!
As a huge fan of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, I was super excited for this novella. It didn’t disappoint and was a fun short story, encompassing all the amazing qualities of Pip I love.
This was a cute, short story set before the first book of the series. I liked the setting of a Murder Mystery party. The story was perhaps unnecessary, but it was a quick read that provided a beginning to the series and made me want to throw a Murder Mystery party of my own.
This was a quick, fun read! It was a great way to get an origin story. And as someone who has always wanted to participate in a murder mystery, I loved it. I’ll say without spoiling anything, I don’t think Pip was wrong. :)
In this prequel novella, Pip and her friends are having a murder mystery dinner party. Get to further know the cast of characters of the AGGGTM trilogy and discover how PIp decided on her senior year capstone project topic. This novella is a fun, easy read. I finished it after binging the entire trilogy. I loved going back to where it all started after the rollercoaster of those three books. Definitely worth a read by any fans of the series!
Thank you to Random House Children's, Delacorte Press and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
Good short story set prior to the GGGTM book. This really captures Pips personality and thought process into where she finally decides to do her senior project. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC copy. I also will listen to this on audio once it comes out as I have the rest of the series.
I can't get enough of Holly Jackson! I was honestly afraid that this far into the series, the storyline would start to feel tired, but I'm thrilled to share it's the best one yet.
This was a really cute prequel! I think it does a great job of introducing the characters and making it more apparent why Pippa chose to do her project on Andie Bell's murder case. This was especially great at developing Pippas character and why she is such a little detective. I love Holly Jackson's writing and loved the format this one was in.
Kill Joy is such a great look into Pip and her friends prior to the events of the main series. It shows just how discerning Pip is, even when the case is fake and her friends are doing it for fun. I love seeing how serious she is throughout this story. I've always wanted to attend a murder mystery party and reading this only made me want to be invited to one more. This story was so fun! It doesn't have the heaviness or high stakes the main series has and you can still enjoy Pip's deducting skills! Definitely pick this one up if you love A Good Girl's Guide to Murder!
This was a prequel to A Good Girl's Guide to Murder and I really enjoyed it. Pip is such a great character and it was fun to see her and her friends go through a 'murder mystery' together and figure out the whodunit. Plus it gives Pip the inspiration for her senior project.
This was an interesting prequel. I can see why the author would wanna capitalize on her popular book. Lots of character names, and lots of details - I had to get through the book with sheer force. However, a murder mystery party was a perfect foil for the plot. Excited about what Holly Jackson has to offer.
I am unable to get this on my kindle so was unable to read unfortunately to evaluate it. for my students and for personal reading
Wooow! This was such a good novella. You’re left questioning everything and everyone. I absolutely recommend you read this continuation!
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson has a prequel called Kill Joy. A murder mystery party is invited to Pip and her friends.
Throughout the evening, hints are dropped, and the partygoers must determine which of them is the murderer. It was great to see familiar faces again, and Pip's sad dog even gets a mention.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book will be published February 18, 2023.
This was the first ARC I requested, and I’m so happy I got approved for it! Pippa has my heart.
This series is so good. One of the BEST YA series — I’d say this and The Cruel Prince are the top two. (Does Hunger Games count as YA? If so, that’s up there too.) I might do a review arguing why this is the best YA series after I read the third book, which I’m putting off because I don’t want this to end.
Kill Joy is a novella following a murder mystery dinner party a few months before A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. We follow Pip and her friends as they work their way through the game. There’s clues, there’s guidelines, there’s storylines. Pip originally is against the game, as she’d much rather stay home and work on her soon-to-be infamous senior capstone project. But she soon gets into the game and embodies her character, Celia. And the game ends up being so impactful to her, that it influences her capstone. This is literally Pip’s villain origin story.
A quick, fun read with two twists at the end, though I guessed them, unlike in the main series. If you love AGGGTM, you’ll love this.
I loved the Good Girl series and this novella was no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed the inside look into life before. If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll enjoy this quick read. If you haven’t read the series yet - this is the place to start.
I received an Advances Reader Copy from NetGalley for an honest review.
This is a cute novella for fans of The Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series. Set before the series, it tells about Pip and her friends at a Murder Mystery Dinner. This definitely did not add anything to the series or build the characters too much but it was a quick read and enjoyable. I enjoyed being pulled back into Pip’s brain and the ending was unexpected!
Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Childrens for an ARC.
This was super cute and it was fun to see Pip before the actual story starts. I loved that she was smarter than the murder mystery game.
Cute prequel novella that showed how it all started. I loved it and would recommend to everyone who has already read the series or to anyone looking to start it. I loved the murder mystery party and now want to host one of my own.
4.5 star rating! Thanks to Netgalley and Holly Jackson for an advanced copy.
Such a fun story and a great addition to the series! I love the whole murder mystery aspect and felt it was totally on brand for this series! Great fun quick read!
