Kill Joy
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder Novella
by Holly Jackson
Pip Fitz-Amobi is invited to a 1920s murder mystery party in Fairview. It's going to be an exciting night for Pip and her friends. All of them enjoy solving murder mysteries.
This is a prequel to A Good Girl's Guide To Murder called Kill Joy. It’s a quick read novella that sets up the series by revealing what made Pip decide to start investigating Andie Bell’s murder.
Kill Joy is available on February 28th. This delightful novella is a must-read for fans of the wildly popular A Good Girl's Guide To Murder series.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Children's for sharing this novella with me. Your kindness is appreciated.
I liked this novella, it was to the point and fun but I didn’t really find myself very invested. A nice quick read though and the atmosphere of it was fun.
If you liked the other holly Jackson books you’ll love this for sure. Pippa has a murder mystery party! loved it!
I loved the Good Girls Guide to Murder trilogy and honestly this little novella is perfect. It sets up the trilogy but also makes it fun to revisit the world and characters of those books if you’ve finished them. It’s a very quick read and worth picking up. I loved the mystery game that everyone was playing and I loved how it concluded. Holly Jackson is a master at writing a suspenseful mystery that leaves you wanting more.
This makes me want more but also to play one of these murder mystery dinner games. It’s a super fun read that anyone who’s fan of AGGGTM should pick up and read!
A huge thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for allowing me the chance to read the eARC.
I really enjoyed this! Loved the murder mystery game with Pip and her friends. This is the perfect prequel to the series, shows you where Pip’s interest in solving crimes came from and in the exact moment she chose her senior project for “a good girls guide to murder”. Definitely sets the tone for the whole series. Highly recommend!
Really enjoyed this prequel to the Good Girl’s Guide series! It was fun seeing Stevie’s brain work and finding out what made her decide to start investigating Andie Bell’s murder.
Pip’s been invited to a 1920’s murder mystery party hosted by her friend. We all know Pip loves a good murder mystery so she’s in for a fun ride with her friends. Kill Joy is a prequel to 𝐴 𝐺𝑜𝑜𝑑 𝐺𝑖𝑟𝑙’𝑠 𝐺𝑢𝑖𝑑𝑒 𝑇𝑜 𝑀𝑢𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑟 that we didn’t know we needed but definitely did. It’s a quick read that will give you more of your favorite character Pip. It was such a fun novella that has me wishing that my own friends would host a 1920’s themed murder mystery party. I hope we get to see more of Pip because that series was one of my favorites from last year. If you loved the 𝐴 𝐺𝑜𝑜𝑑 𝐺𝑖𝑟𝑙’𝑠 𝐺𝑢𝑖𝑑𝑒 𝑇𝑜 𝑀𝑢𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑟 series then you’ll definitely want to read this fun prequel.
Great book! Flew threw this one and really enjoyed it. Would recommend to anyone. This book caught my eye with the cover alone!
Pip is back and is just as much fun as always. If you enjoyed the Good Girl's Guide to Murder series, you will definitely enjoy this novella.
Wow did I love being back in Fairview! Such a fun novella for this series and a great way to kick start Pip’s journey. I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who has read the series. I love how this novella highlighted Pip’s desire to look into Andie’s case. Amazing read!
Six suspects. Three hours. One murder.

Pip Fitz-Amobi is not in the mood for a 1920’s themed murder mystery party, but she’s being a good sport and going. At Connor’s house Pip and her friends act out their roles to solve the fictional murder of Reginald Remy, but the entire time Pip is thinking about a murder that’s too close to home and how she can use it for her senior thesis.

This is the YA prequel to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. I was so pumped to see this was available on Netgalley because I will always want to return to this world. I did miss Ravi as Pip’s right hand man, but it’s a great way to dive into this series and learn who Pip was before the first novel begins. This novella releases February 27.
CW: murder (theme)
This was a quick but very interesting novella. The author let the main character shine and I am looking forward to reading the series.
Thank you NetGalley, Random House Childrens and the author for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thoroughly enjoyed the prequel to one of my favorite series. Pip's personality shines through here and the series of events that set forth her first case was a pleasure to read.
Did you ever wonder how Pip came up with her senior year project idea in A Good Girls Guide To Murder?! Well the novella, Kill Joy, answers that question! It’s a cute, super quick read about Pip’s friend group gathering between junior and senior year to celebrate a birthday with a murder mystery role play dinner game. If you like the GGGTM series, then you definitely want to check this out.
Thank you to @randomhouse @delacortepress and @netgalley for allowing me to read this novella ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children's- Delacorte Press for sending me this galley in exchange for an honest review!
I am a huge fan of the AGGGTM trilogy, and was so excited to be approved for this novella! The story takes place the summer before the first book in the trilogy, and the reader can see the wheels in Pip's head start to turn. Pip and her friends attend a murder mystery party and spend the night trying to crack the case.
It is cool to see the introduction to the characters, but if I had read this before the series I don't know if I would have liked the series as much. I found parts of the story to be a little underdeveloped, but that is likely because it was a novella and not a full length novel. The characters were well-developed for the time the reader has with them, though Pip definitely received the most development throughout the story. It was cool to pick up on Easter eggs that would come later, as some characters and scenarios are hinted at,
Overall, I wasn't blown away by this the same way that I was when reading the trilogy, but I do think it's fun for fans of the series who want a quick read.
Begin Again was a very wholesome quirky read. Andie Rose transfers to her dream university to follow in her mother’s footsteps. She’s looking forward to being at the same school as her boyfriend Connor, but when she shows up on campus to surprise him, she finds out he actually transfers to her community college to surprise her. Life gets very complicated!
She’s on a journey to figure out who she is aside from being Connor’s girlfriend, living in her mother’s shadow, and attempting to navigate new friendships. Emma Lord always creates the most fun, quirky characters who love sugar and adventures. My favorite of her books, though, will always be “Tweet Cute.”
Oh how I've missed the characters in these pages. I LOVE Holly Jackson and this prequel novella to the AGGGTM was perfect. I really enjoyed seeing Pip hone her detective skills, the references that come to shape the plot of AGGGTM and how she landed on her capstone project. Super cute read if you have an afternoon and want to visit some friends from Fairview.
HoJack, write more books ASAP.
I thought this was a great prequel to such a strong series. It was quick, but strong in the storytelling.
Love Holly Jackson. And more than that I love A good girl’s guide to murder series. This was very fast paced and enjoyable prequel novella that I absolutely devoured it in one single sitting. Highly entertaining!!
I LOVED the AGGGTM series, so seeing that Holly Jackson was writing a prequel was such exciting news! This book shows how Pip decides to use the Andie Bell murder for her senior capstone, which is something I was curious about when reading the series. I loved seeing all of the characters before they were… the characters. While this made me fall in love with this series even more, it also made me want to buy one of those murder mystery boxes…
I love Holly Jackson, I love Pip, and I loved this short story!!!
