Oh how I have missed Holly Jackson's books! The novella will have to tide me over and it was excellent! She continues to deliver great writing and thrills!
Was unable to read via kindle so I will have to wait until I actually purchase the book …………………………………………………………….,…………..,,,,,,….
Thank you to PRHAudio and Netgalley for the advanced copies! I had NO idea this was a prequel! It’s a fun little novella centered around a murder mystery party. It ends with how AGGGTM begins!
A quick read and a fun ending!
This was a fun little introduction to Pip and what inspired her to inveatigate the Andi Bell case. I had a lot of fun trying to solve the mystery alongside Pip. I really enjoyed how quick and easy this novella was to read.
Kill Joy is one of many books by Holly Jackson that I've read and enjoyed. It's a prequel novel to the popular A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series. This was a super quick read but sets up the A Good Girl's Guide to Murder series quite well. You don't necessarily need to read the entire series before you read this one; it's stand alone.
This book follows Pip Fitz-Amobi attending a murder mystery dinner party with her beloved friends. Over the course of a few hours, Pip and her friends are tasked with solving the fictional murder of Reginald Remy. Pip soon becomes very invested in solving the murder case, eventually leading to her coming up with an idea for her senior capstone project.
A massive thank you to Holly Jackson and Random House Children's, Delacorte Press for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
A book like the game clue!! It’s fun, quick read. A great prequel novella to the world of Pippa. She is one of the main characters in A Good Girls Guide to Murder. Pippa and her friends have a murder mystery dinner party, where each of them plays a different character and they collect clues to help figure out who among them is the killer. This novella is full of Witt, humor and of course Pip’s great investigative skills. Many thanks to Random House and NetGalley for the digital review copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This is the prequel novella to the wildly popular A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series. Pip begrudgingly attends a murder mystery party at her friend Connor’s house. Although not super into it at first, Pip quickly finds herself lost in the intrigue and mystery.
First off, if you haven’t read this series yet, I highly recommend it. It is popular for a reason! This is a fun addition that explains why Pip decided to solve a real life murder for her senior capstone project. As the story progresses, we are immersed in the game along with Pip and her friends. I thought the mystery itself was very well done and especially loved the ending where the whodunnit is revealed.
This was such a fun little prequel novella for the AGGGTM series! I love how we get to see Pip’s thought process when solving a murder at a murder mystery role play party before she ends up investigating a real one in the AGGGTM series! I don’t think this was quite necessary, and you don’t really have to read it to read the series, but if you loved the series and want more of the characters, I recommend it! It’s a novella, so it’s pretty short and a quick read. I enjoyed it!! I missed this series so much!!
Age Rating: 13+ (language, but not gore/violence or actual murder)
Thank you Netgalley for the advanced reviewer ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to the publishers for providing this ARC!
This was a nice, quick read into the world of AGGGTM that I fell in love with last year with the first book. Pip has my entire heart, and being in her head once again felt like such a privilege. She's incredibly smart and attentive, and it comes off so well in this prequel, before any of the events of the book happen. Jackson knows how to write characters that feel like they jump off the page, and she knows how to write a mystery that keeps you guessing, even if it's just a murder mystery game. Was this necessary? Probably not, but I'd never say no to more books in this universe.
(A sequel, perhaps? One can only hope.)
Regardless of how much time I spend away from Pip and her friends, I always am able to pick up right where the last book left off. I absolutely loved this series and devoured each book within days if not hours.
I was so excited to hear that a prequel was being added to the series, and it's the cutest little novella. With all of the nostalgic characters, and even some that we aren't properly introduced to until the 2nd and 3rd books, I loved diving back into this world.
The idea of a murder mystery party had me wondering what to possibly expect but the writing style, the set up and delivery of Jackson's idea was SO MUCH FUN! I honestly was trying to keep up with the murder mystery myself!
I just love that this is what sparked Pip to solve the Andie Bell and Sal Singh and even the scene in the car at the end of the book was SPOOKY having read the entire series.
I devoured this novella in about 2 hours, and I would highly recommend you read this after you read the first 2 books at least!
BOOK REVIEW 💯 📚
A super short read, but gives such good background into Pip and her group of friends! Obviously not as gripping as the series, but a great prequel!

Cute little read. It’s a prequel to A Good Girls Guide to Murder. Felt a little adolescent for me, but good for a younger crowd! Short book. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review!
This quick read introduces you to Pippa Fitz-Amobi as she attends a murder mystery dinner party with some friends. This book serves as a good prequel and will give you insight into the mind of Pippa as the scene is set for the first book in the Good Girl's Guide to Murder series. It is also a great companion book if you have already read the series. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I’m honestly a little unsure of how to rate this. I read TGGGTM series last year and loved it! None of the books were below a 4⭐️ read. But, therein lies the problem. I think that readers who’ve already read the series might not enjoy this prequel. It’s a little too cheesy knowing what’s to come.
However, removing that scenario, it’s a very fun read! A murder mystery dinner is a great way to get introduced to a few of the characters from the series. Speaking of - Ant is still a total PIA… I will admit it was a little confusing to have dual names for all the characters, but it does help I’ve read the other books.
Overall I think 3⭐️ is a fair rating. It’s a fun and quick read but other than an introduction to the characters in the series, it doesn’t really add any substance.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved the Good Girls Guide to Murder series so I was excited to give this prequel a go. First of all, this is absolutely not necessary to your enjoyment of the trilogy. This is a little short story (a little over 1oo pages) about a murder mystery game night that gave Pippa the idea to do her senior capstone project on the town's recent murders thus starting the events in the first Good Girls novel. The murder game night had some funny moments and there was some investment along with Pippa's in figuring out the fake whodunit. It was also nice seeing some of the characters from the future books again.
If you are a fan of Holly Jackson and have fallen in love with Pippa from her other books, this will give you insight into why Pippa chose to do her senior project on the Bell's murder case.
I thought this book was a fun, quick read and gave you more of the Pip you love.
Thanks, Netgalley for the ARC of this book.
It was fun to see how Pip got her idea for her senior project and to be back in her world! A quick and engaging read!
A classy 1920’s Murder mystery party with my favorite teenage detective? Yes please! What an adorable intro to the world of Pip Amobi! It reminded me of an Agatha Christie novel with its mysterious clues, and rambunctious characters! Thank you so much to Random House Children’s for this fun introduction!
Really cute short story that puts some context to where Pips obsession started. I like how you sort of get reintroduced to everyone and see how Pips mind worked ahead of the series. Love the whole idea around it being a murder mystery party as well.
Pipa and her friends have a 1920’s murder mystery party in this prequel to A Good Girls Guide To Murder. This was a great story that I rushed through. I can’t wait to read her others. Thanks NetGalley and Random House Children’s for this ARC that will be released February 28, 2023!
