i read this years ago - the audio book was really good but something didn’t fully connect with me. the writing is really pretty and unique though, i think anyone who likes unique genre bending type fiction should give this a go.

"Alone With You in the Ether" by Olivie Blake is a lyrical novel that follows the not so love story between the science-oriented Aldo Damiani and the counterfeit, lost artist Charlotte Reagan. Slow-paced with lots of yearning, this novel feels more like a fly on the wall perspective to codependency and toxicity rather that romance (which is what I believe the author truly wanted to get at). The language would not be for every reader as it leans very academic in its prose but I really enjoyed this. This is the type of book you read slowly, taking breaks to digest.

This is the second book I have read by Olivie Blake and I quite enjoyed it. The audiobook really elevated the reading experience and I highly recommend listening to it in tandem with the physical book.

I loved this book so much. I did a bit of digging, and found out this one was originally self-published by Blake before Tor picked it up. I can't believe this book alone didn't get her a publisher. It is so good, and has such a different feel from the Atlas Six series, which I adored, but this book is far superior with regard to character development, complexity, and the immersive feeling of a really, really, really good book. Atlas Six feels a bit dumbed down after reading this.
This was such a beautiful glimpse of people finding that one person that fits them, when they aren't the sort that can fall easily into relationship norms. Regan suffers from mental illness, and Aldo appears to be neurodiverse. Neither of them can easily find a relationship that doesn't require them to make massive changes to themselves to accommodate a partner. This book reminded me a lot of Nathan Hill's Wellness, so if you like Nathan Hill you would enjoy this as well.
This was such a good book. So many feels. Highly recommend.
The audio narration was good, but I'm not a huge fan of ensemble casts because it's easier for me to differentiate between one narrator's different character voices than switching narrators. But I am probably an outlier on this topic.

In this captivating fantasy romance, the author weaves a beautifully intricate world filled with magic, adventure, and an undeniable chemistry between the protagonists. From the very first page, readers are drawn into a richly imagined landscape where the stakes are high, and love transcends boundaries.
The characters are delightfully complex, each facing their own trials and transformations. Their journey is not just about romance; it’s about self-discovery and the courage to embrace one’s true self. The chemistry between them crackles with tension, making every shared moment feel electric and deeply meaningful.
The plot is expertly crafted, balancing moments of heart-pounding action with tender, intimate scenes that linger long after the book is closed. The author’s lyrical prose brings the settings to life, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the beauty and danger of this enchanting world.
Overall, this book is a delightful escape that deftly combines elements of fantasy and romance. It’s a testament to the power of love and the strength found in vulnerability. Perfect for fans of the genre, it’s a story that will stay with you long after you’ve turned the final page. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a magical journey of the heart!

I received the audiobook but was never able to download the ARC on the App. I had to wait to borrow the book from the library.
I’m not sure Olivie Blake is an author I vibe with.
I had a hard time getting through this story.
I’m sure it is great for some readers. Just not me.

I enjoyed this story and found it so different than anything I’ve read before. The writing is lyrical and the narration was done really well.

Wow, I read and listened to this book a while back and missed reviewing on here! I loved this book! Olivie Blake is a genius!

I expected to really appreciate this book given my own personal connection with the content, but instead I couldn't figure out what was going on and quickly lost interest.

I tried to get into this story, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Even though the audio was entertaining with a cast of narrators, the story and characters didn’t keep my interest beyond the first few parts. Look forward to the next novel from Olivia Blake

Here are some things I think you need to know before you start Alone with you in the ether.
1. This is not the Atlas Six.
2. This book is about mental illness and depression and dealing with those and still finding love.
3. You're probably going to keep waiting for something big to happen, and nothing big is going to happen.
4. The writing is beautiful, but it's a little chaotic and it's not going to work for everyone.
This book is like if John Green wrote and adult book about mental illness and depression. This book is for people who watched Mad Love but were hoping for a better ending. This is a book for people who love to pull quotes out of books. This book is for people who understand that love isn't the answer for people with mental illness and depression, but that those people still deserve love, and sometimes for some people, it ends up working.
I listened to AWYITE on audiobook and I highly recommend it. There were multiple narrators that did a fantastic job. The way they layered the narrations on top of each other was really unique and nothing that I've heard before.

A painfully beautiful love stories about two broken people who find each other and love each other in spite of their broken edges. It made my heart swell and I’ve never found hand holding so sensual and passionate.
It’s a love story in its truest form. The audiobook adds an extra dimension that you can’t find in the physical copy. Highly recommend

DNF around 50%. I could not get into this book. The narration was great but the book seemed to really drag on and I was constantly very confused as to what was going on. It seemed like everything jumped around a lot and I never fully knew anything. The characters were a little bland and just not interesting to read about

I started listening to this book and thought to myself, "Am I going to make it through this?" That doubt turned around at about the 15% mark. After that, I couldn't devour this story fast enough. It's a modern love story that it wonderful and sad and tragic and heartwarming and romantic and all the things!
Following two characters that aren't particularly likable, we get a glimpse at a love that isn't typical. We hear about it in flowery twisted prose that needs the reader to be a participant in deciphering the truth for ourselves. I felt like I was a character in this story and continually reevaluated how I wanted the love story to end.
The narration was perfect, with a cast of voices that lent to the drama without distracting from the sweet interwoven tale.

I’ll be honest and say this book took me. While to get into but boy was it worth it! The characters are so relatable and the story beautifully written. Regan was my favorite character by far!

Dnf at 67% I wanted to like this book. Based on the cover, the author, the character Aldo. But I almost dnf-ed it within 10% but I gave it chance after chance. I just really did not enjoy it. It confused me. For the audiobook, it is a full cast but it’s so confusing how it’s done. A narrator for the whole book and then a narrator for each character (Aldo and Regan) and then a voice for each of them to Aldo and Rachel. But then there were some of their voices in there too that I didn’t understand why they were different narrators. It was just too much and because of that it was confusing and distracting. There were a couple points that were creatively down like when Regan hears her mother’s critical voice (done in a different narration) in her mind and then it becomes her own voice (and her own narration) symbolizing how that voice had become her own thoughts about herself.
I relate to that.
But that was once.
I also loved in the storyline how Aldo and Regan meet and get to know each other in 6 conversations topped off by what they learned about each other in each talk. So cute. But once that was done, I liked Regan just about as much as in the beginning (could not stand her). Also is really the saving grace of the story (he reminds me of a John Green character) and still not enough for me to finish it.

This book fell somewhere between I wish I loved it more and I can't wait to read it again in a new season of life because I know that I'll come away with a completely different understanding.
Narration: This is a full cast narration and is an experience. Highly recommend checking it out.
Thanks to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for my copy to review.

It took me a while to finish this one. It couldn’t hold my attention, as well as I had hoped. I actually did enjoy the stream of consciousness for the most part, however, I continue to zone out, sometimes, even though the audiobook was really well done. That was my biggest issue with the book. Other than that, I found the characters, enjoyable, and realistic. Sometimes they were not likable, but that’s normal — sometimes we don’t like people, and sometimes we like them. Overall, I enjoyed them, and I found this to be a pretty solid read.

It took me a while to get into this book but once I did it was almost impossible to put down. I finished it in two days and haven't stopped thinking about it.
This is a love story unlike any other love story you have read before. The characters are flawed, complex, and messy - and I loved every minute of it. Olivie's writing is beautiful and felt poetic at times.

Unbelievable, incredible and heartbreaking.
Thanks netgalley for the free audiobook in exchange for a review.
