Another great book from Stacy Willingham! Definite page turner and hard to put down as I always wanted to know what was coming next. I have read both books this author has written and will definitely keep reading whatever she writes. Thanks NetGalley for the audio eArc.
This is a perfect unreliable narrator story. It’s a perfect example of when you question yourself. The constant questions keep the listeners intrigued. This had me plugging in my headphones in one ear continuing to listen when I was multitasking.
Isabelle Drake is a sleep deprived mother obsessed with undercovering the truth behind her son's mysterious disappearance in this compelling thriller by Stacy Willingham.
All the Dangerous Things doesn't offer the quick thrills and twists that A Flicker in the Dark left us with, but this one slowly builds into quite the suspense story. This is a slow burn domestic thriller that does not disappoint. Overall, an interesting and entertaining read full of layers and complexity. 4 stars!
This audiobook was narrated by Karissa Vacker, who did a fantastic job. Willingham's descriptive writing and Vacker's narration are quite the power duo. Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for a free copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This is a book I cracked open yesterday, finished today, and basically did not stop thinking about in all the moments in between. The author does an excellent job of weaving just enough of a edge to various characters throughout the development of the story, meaning we’re on the edge of our seats throughout, constantly guessing and second guessing how it will all come to an end! The ambiance is hazy, rich, and evocative, I could see it existing in the stylistic world of Big Little Lies.
This thriller is an incredibly delicious take on the psychological thriller genre - the set up is such that we feel grief and anguish along with the protagonist right from the beginning, making the story feel all the more high stakes, personal, and engaging, while also having the effect of making us suspect that our narrator might not be a fully reliable one. The flashback scenes did a great job of stoking those flames and suggesting a darker history, and the podcast angle remains one that I’m a sucker for - the investigative angle is so fun and I do not think I’ll ever tire of it! Its executed well here, it’s not like those extended transcribed dialogue scenes, which can feel a bit forced. I should sis mention that I read this in audiobook form, and the narrator did a wonderful job of distinguishing between characters and making it feel dynamic and effortless, rather than heavy handed or distracting.
It’s rare that I fall even more in love with a thriller author’s second release after a strong first novel but that’s exactly the case here! I am already looking forward to picking up Stacy Willingham’s subsequent reads, it will be an auto read for me.
This is the first audiobook I’ve listened to and what a great one to start with! The author takes is on a journey with a mother desperate to find her son. There are several sub stories within the book that keep the reader engaged. You have to read until the very end to solve the mystery.
Finished in one day—was a ride. So good. Made me so anxious I almost looked for spoilers—a didn’t. Narration was wonderful. Will be recommending!!
I really enjoyed this descriptive, twisty and suspense filled book. I liked the alternate timelines and how they eventually came together to explain some of the twists. It was so well written and descriptive. It kept me engaged and I loved the narrator! She did a great job voicing all of the different characters. I thought I had figured it out so many different times and then she just proved me wrong with my theories and kept it moving. It was impressive that the author was able to keep me guessing leading me down different paths. I loved this book and will definitely be reading more by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for access to this audiobook.
I think I was one of the only people who wasn't a huge fan of Flicker in the Dark. I was initially hesitant to read this but I am glad I did. This mystery kept my interest and while I had most of the mystery figured out pretty early, this book really kept my interest.
I really enjoyed this book! I loved Stacy Willingham's debut as well and Im honestly not sure which one I look better. The pace is perfect and the twists and turns are so engaging.
Isabelle Drake is haunted by the night her son Mason went missing from her home. So much so, that she’s barely slept in over a year. While searching for answers in the case, she finds herself in touch with a true crime podcaster. But, what she will find is the truth about her childhood.
I enjoyed this audiobook & I feel the audio helped enforce the unreliability of the MC. I loved the partial southern setting in Beaufort, SC— it brought me some warmth as I struggle with my New England Winter.
I was a bit bummed that it took a turn to follow the path of a lot of similar thrillers, but I still enjoyed listening and definitely vocalized an “OMG” moment after a certain twist.
Would recommend this audiobook to anyone looking to be immersed in a suspenseful thriller! Thank you @macmillan.audio @minotaur_books & @netgalley for access to this audio in exchange for an honest review.
Two books in and Stacy Willingham has become a must read author. After the well-deserved hype from A Flicker in the Dark, All the Dangerous Things could have been a let down--it was not.
The novel follows a grieving mother, Isabelle Drake, as she continues the search for her child one year after his disappearance. She is being stymied by those around her and often viewed with suspicion due to tragic circumstances in her past. As Isabelle deals with issues of trust, insomnia, sleepwalking, and more, she finds a kindred spirit in podcaster Waylon. What she doesn't know is that he holds his own secrets and they may be the key to unlocking the mystery of "where is Mason?"
I experienced this as an audiobook narrated by the excellent Karissa Vacker. I encourage those who have the opportunity to listen to her narrate a book to take it!
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced copy!
𝑺𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆. 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒔. 𝑳𝒊𝒆𝒔
Isabelle Drake is having to endure several lonesome long nights after her baby went missing and her husband left her. The story is dark, and one of nightmares. The book was written in a way where I was questioning Isabelle's character. The story slowly peeled back its layers slowly revealing the dark secrets of the past and present.
The narrator, Karissa Vacker did a wonderful performance portraying Isabelle, and many of the other characters we encounter in the story. The variety of tones and inflections used kept me engaged.
If you enjoy mystery books, with a psychological twist be sure to check this one out. It was a bit slow for me at times, but it's a very compelling listen.
Special thanks to Netgalley, Macmillan Audio, and Minotaur Books for the ALC.

This book was deliciously deviant and tantalizingly twisted!
It starts out with Isabelle Drake, the MC, speaking about her son, Mason, who has been missing for a year at a true crime conference. All she asks in form of compensation are lists of the attendees, as more often than not the culprits of horrible crimes can’t help but insert themself into spaces where that crime is being discussed/investigated.
On the plane home Isabelle meets a man who was in attendance at the conference who wants to interview her for his podcast and while at first she declines, she later invites him to her home.
The disappearance of Mason also drove a wedge between Isabelle and her husband, ultimately causing them to split (and her ex-husband already has a new girlfriend that looks eerily like Isabelle).
There are so many unexpected twists and turns and the audio narrator was P E R F E C T I O N! An excellent choice for this audiobook!
Five stars!

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Minotaur books and Macmillan audio for the audio ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Isabelle Drake has barely slept in a year. Not since the night her toddler, Mason, disappeared from their home. Her and her husband were asleep in the next room, but they heard nothing, saw nothing. The only sign of an intruder was an open window in Mason's room. With zero other leads, or evidence though, the police had nothing to go on. The case goes cold.
Since that time, Isabelle and her husband, Ben, have split. Isabelle knows the stats, it's not unusual for people who have lost a child to split up. For her though, she just couldn't understand how Ben seemed to move on after Mason. He gave up on him. Isabelle can't do that. She's not going to chalk it up as a loss and move on. Her son could still be out there. She refuses to see him as gone forever.
Isabelle talks about the case, literally gives talks about the case any time she can. She figures talking about it, keeps the case alive. It keeps Mason's missing status in the forefront of people's minds. It's after speaking at an event dedicated to True crime that she meets True Crime Podcaster, Waylon Spencer.
Waylon takes an interest in Mason's case and proposes to Isabelle that they work together. If he can interview her for his series, it will bring even more exposure to her case. After some thought, Isabelle agrees and Waylon comes to stay in Savannah, to be near her and make the interview process easier on them both. Thus, it begins.
In addition to Isabelle's present perspective, we also get her past perspective. In her childhood she lived with her Mom, Dad and little sister, Margaret. After tragedy struck the family, Isabelle was haunted by the event. She's never truly recovered from the trauma and a lot of recollections are more her trying to parse out the truth of what happened as opposed to a strict retelling of the event.
I really enjoyed the inclusion of this past perspective. I felt it gave a lot of insight into who Isabelle was as a character and helped to give substance to her motivations in her present. I found this entire story so compelling. From the first moments I met Isabelle, I was sucked into her story. I wanted to know everything there was to know about her life, both past and present.
It was interesting to be inside her head as she grappled with the loss of Mason and tried to make sense of it. The lack of sleep has had an effect on her, so it's unclear whether or not she's entirely reliable.I am a sucker for an unreliable narrator. I know some Readers are over it, but I'm so not one of those Readers.
I wouldn't describe this as being fast-paced, it was more of a steady pace with great tension throughout. Each chapter fills in more and more of the puzzle and it was really hard to put it down. There were some super fun twists and reveals. I just had an absolute blast with this one. I really enjoyed Willingham's earlier release, A Flicker in the Dark, and personally, I think this one is even better. Highly recommend the audio format as the narration is fantastic!
Thank you so much to the publisher, Minotaur Books and Macmillan Audio, for providing me with copies to read and review. After loving her first two novels, it's safe to say that I will continue to pick up anything else Stacy Willingham writes. Looking forward to more!!
Alright Stacy, I gave you a second chance and you didn't disappoint me. If you haven't seen my raging review of Flicker in the Dark - yikes, it was rough. I saw this as an option for BOTM and immediately said "absolutely not."
WELL - FOMO GOT THE BEST OF ME
But I saved my money and requested the physical and the audio from net galley - ooops
But was it really oops? Because I got the audio and powered through it! It was a VERRRRRY slow burn, so if you don't love slow burns, maybe this one isn't for you. I won't lie, I did not have high expectations after how much I HATED Flicker, however this took an interesting turn.
The twists I didn't see coming, they were not chaotic twists that had me like bruh what the hell? Stacy just led the reader down the path that she wanted the reader to go down and then SWOOPED in with the hard truth.
I'm trying to decide between a 3.5 and a 4 star rating at the moment but I'm going to round up regardless because I think really do think that this was a well-done thriller.
If you haven't snagged this one on BOTM yet, request it on netgalley!! or buy it January 10th when it comes out!
This seemed like a straightforward thriller from the beginning, but there were twists throughout. I like to writing structure of examining Isabelle's past and her present. At times it felt as though she was grasping at straws, but of course I've never been in the situation of having my child taken. So I do hope that I would have Isabelle's tanacity to keep looking for answers. The narrator was great, and it still amazes me when a female narrator does a great male voice.
Isabella’s son Mason has been missing for an entire year, stolen from his bed at night without a trace and without signs of forced entry. Isabella struggles with insomnia and has a history of sleep walking, a dark, disturbed troubling past, and so much grief.
Her husband Ben, has already lost hope and left her high and dry. His history with women is also very concerning.
This story is woven in a way that you aren’t quite sure who took Mason, if he’s alive or dead.
Did Isabella do something while sleepwalking and doesn’t remember? She feels so guilty and she isn’t sure why.
Did Ben do something, because it seems he never wanted a child to begin with and was maybe looking for an excuse to leave his wife? Is someone else to blame?
This book is so unputdownable, has so many good twists and turns I didn’t see coming, and was such a wild ride of clues and case files to try to figure out what happened to Mason; and what happened in the past to bring on this insomnia and sleep walking.
This narration was so good. I just wanted to keep listening to find out what happened.

Okay, I really enjoyed listening to this book the past few days. The narrator did so well reading this with the right enunciations to grip your attention. Right off the bat I knew this was going to be a good “read” - With a character who hasn’t slept in 365 days - it’s a sure fire way to expect suspense and mystery. I wasn’t expecting the ending at all and leading up to the twist, actually found my self audibly gasping at a few revelations. Listening to this book takes on a different feel for me, but have no doubt that a physical copy in my hands would have been just as much of a page turner. I found my self wondering what would happen next after I turned off the recording for the day.
Thank you to NetGalley and Stacy Willingham for this audio-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.
Isabelle's son Mason has been missing for a year now. He was taken from her and her husband's home in the night. The cops still have no leads and no suspects other than Isabelle herself. Isabelle knows she had nothing to do with Mason's disappearance but her resurgence of sleep walking has her questioning everything she knows. When she's approached by a podcaster willing to do her story she is more desperate than ever for help finding her son and she will stop at nothing.
This is my first novel by Stacy Willingham, her first novel is still on my TBR list but after reading this novel it is my next read!! I loved this audiobook. It had me hooked from the get go. I thought I had guessed the twist but nope! I was floored and absolutely loved it!!
It’s her life. A life of motherhood. A life defined by a lie. One year ago Mason was taken from his room while Isabelle and Ben slept in the next room. Isabelle has spent the last year unable to sleep, unsettled by the thought of his case being unsolved with no suspects and no leads. Isabelle wont stop searching for her son. Her husband Ben wants to move forward so he’s moved out leaving Isabelle alone in her pain.
All the Dangerous Things is about Isabelle Drake a woman who once didn’t want children then found herself feeling empty without Mason. Her seven year marriage didn’t survive the tragedy of losing Mason. His kidnapping caused a strain on there marriage. Instead of growing closer and forming a united front, it took Ben six months to move forward.
Everyone including detectives, her husband, and neighbors expect her too move on. Waylon is different. Waylon is a podcaster offering her an outlet to put her story out there to aid in getting answers or clues.
As Isabelle recounts the last seven years with Ben readers gain insight about Isabelle and her inability to let go. Stacy Willingham also travels back into Isabelle’s childhood and her relationship with her sister Margaret.
Stacy Willingham illustrates a mother devasted by her toddler being kidnapped. Her credibility to give information to the detective is met with concern given the suspicion of the situation and backstory. Stacy did an excellent job of arousing suspicion in other characters. Stacy wrote a clever and plausible thriller. It’s kind of creepy and scary. I could not get enough. I was hooked. This is a story based upon buried memories from her childhood that defined her into motherhood. This was a fast and steady pace thriller with many working parts.
I can’t remember the last time I sat down to read a book and found myself unable to tear myself away. I read it in one day. It was thought provoking and well written. I’m a fan just from this one book. I’m already ready to delve into another of her books. Sadly, she’s only got one other book. That’s okay. I’ll wait for more books to get published. She’s worth the wait.
Narrator:
Karissa Vacker is the solo female performer of All the Dangerous Things. Karissa’s voice acting skills are spectacular. Her ability to transition from one character to the next is exquisite. She can alter her tone and pitch to voice male characters as well which is a unique quality to have.
It’s interesting that I just finished listening to What Lies in the Woods narrated by Karissa Vacker. Good thing I enjoy her voice.
I listened using the Netgalley app at 1.75x speed.
I listened to audiobook while following along with the ebook. Having both expands my experience. Having Karissa bring these characters to life with Stacy’s words controlling the direction of the story was exquisite.
