I picked up this book because the plot sounded interesting - I have only read a few other thrillers about kidnappings. I was sure I had guessed the twists in this one, but I was wrong - and there were quite a few things I didn't see coming! It does drag a bit but then gets more fast-paced towards the end (as so many thrillers I read lately). The audiobook narrator really bothered me at first. She whispers constantly and I wasn't a fan of her different voices for the male characters. But I got used to it.
I loved all the twists and turns, and the narrator is great. I thoroughly enjoyed the story! I have nothing negative to say about this book!
This is the kind of book that makes me want to stay up all night to keep reading, especially since each chapter ending begged for me to move on to the next chapter. When the main character isn't sure she can trust herself, what does she do? How far back in her life did she go wrong to end up where she is now? The audio was absolutely fantastic the narrator was able to stick me in to the story right away and did a fantastic job reading the book.
And absolutely riveting thriller! I was hooked from the beginning. With the dueling timelines of past and present and so many red herrings it was easy to get thrown off the scent of the truth. I absolutely love Stacy Willinghams
Books and she will be an auto buy from here on out!
Isabelle is currently suffering from extreme insomnia. This is completely understandable, since about a year ago her son went missing from her house in the middle of the night. The story goes back and forth between Isabelle’s childhood and the present, and we realize that perhaps Isabelle is not as reliable of a narrator as we first thought.
Although I really ended up liking this book, it took me a bit to get into the story. If you don’t mind a slow start, grab this one!
I LOVED THIS BOOK.
Ok, so I had to get that out. First, I listened to this via audiobook and the narrator was amazing. Her voice is perfect for a story like this and she has such range for the different characters. Too often audiobook narrators are boring and are monotone. 10/10 recommend the narrator for any audiobook.
Second, the story in itself was amazing. It kept me guessing throughout! I didn’t trust anyone including Isabelle the main character. Something about a story with an unreliable main character. 10/10 recommend this book all around.
Run, don’t walk to this one folks!!
3.75 stars. I liked this.
I'm not a big fan of an unreliable narrator (I'm looking at you Chloe in A Flicker in the Dark) but this one was cool to read. The main character, Isabelle Drake, used to sleepwalk when she was a child. I used to sleepwalk as a child too so it was a little scary to find out she MAY begin sleepwalking again as an adult. Her son, Mason, was taken from his bedroom while the household slept one year ago and Isabelle hasn't slept a full night since. The police have no leads and so she tries to keep the case alive by speaking at true crime conventions and the like, then agrees to do a podcast.
I thought this had some good twists (I will admit I wasn't fully in detective mode trying to pick up every tiny crumble of a clue) and was paced well. There were flashback chapters that built up Isabelle's childhood and I really liked these. If you've read A Flicker in the Dark this will seem super familiar. I thought they also did a good job of making sure she seemed unreliable. Like maybe she just didn't remember getting up in the night and doing something to Mason.
The narrator kept me interested in the story. I felt like she brought Isabelle's character to life beautifully; I could feel what she was feeling at times-- like extreme fatigue, uncertainty with herself and other characters, and her heartbreak at not knowing what could have happened to her son. (side note: I don't know how it has worked out this way but I've read like 87 books in a row by Karissa Vacker LOL I hear her voice when I read ebooks [it has literally only been 5 books recently but you get the idea])
Big thanks to Macmillan Audio via Netgalley for the early copy to read and review!
Entertaining and well-narrated - will please fans of Willigham's previous title. A recommended purchase for collections where mommy-noir is popular.
It's every parent's nightmare. Your child is missing - taken from the crib while sleeping. It has been almost a year exactly and Isabelle cannot sleep until her son, Mason, is in her arms again. I mean the literally - she can not sleep. She may drift off for a bit here and there, but there is no rest for this grief-stricken young mother, Her marriage has not survived. Her husband, Ben has moved out and wants to move on, go forward in life. Isabelle will never move forward until she knows where her son is. She will talk to anyone who will listen to her, even at true crime conventions, which many find abhorrent. The faces where she once found support and sympathy, now see her as the crazy lady who attacked the supermarket clerk who was always friendly to her toddler son. When approached by a true crime podcaster who once solved a missing person case, she guardedly told him her story, only to keep Mason's name out there. Yet she was fearful of his finding out too much about her. There is more tormenting Isabelle than sleep deprivation and her missing child. She has been anguished by suspicious death of her younger sister, Margaret, when they were just children.. As a child Isabelle was a sleepwalker who often had night terrors. she would awake, recalling nothing, but having a terrified Margaret cowering from her, But this is not something that Isabelle wants brought to the light.
Which is worse - the nightmares of your sleep or the nightmares of endless days?
I loved Stacy Willingham's first novel, A Flicker in the Dark, All the Dangerous Things is a superb follow up. Stacy Willingham is on my must read list with Tana French, Dervla McTiernan and Ruth Ware.
My thanks to NetGalley for the Advanced Audio Book in exchange for my honest review.

➼ All The Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham - pub date 10 Jan 2023
3.5 ☆
a year ago, Isabelle Drake's son was taken from his crib, never to be seen again. with little to go on, the case sadly turns cold. isabelle's left with intense insomnia - she has not slept for a year. except, of course, for the times where she blacks out completely, coming to later with no recollection of what happened. however, when a true crime podcaster appears out of nowhere and offers his help, everything changes for Isabelle. who is this man? why does he suddenly want to help her? why is he so interested in her and her insomnia? all that Isabelle knows is that she is starting to doubt her recollection of the infamous night, but she will get to the bottom of it, no matter where it leads.
i received an audiobook version of this story, and as someone who's never been a fan of them, i gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. Karissa Vacker did an amazing job. the story was interesting, albeit a bit slow a time - this thriller definitely focuses more on character development. i was intrigued, although i figured it all out before the plot twist. however i really enjoyed Willingham's writing style and would definitely check out her other book soon!
The book, All the Dangerous Things, by Stacy Willingham, is a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing throughout the entire book. Isabelle has lost her son Mason after putting him to bed one night. She tries to keep her case relevant by doing talk shows and even teaming up with a podcaster. She starts to question herself and to feel guilty. She is a sleepwalker and cannot remember events during the night. She also has past trauma. When she was younger, something happened to her little sister. Was she responsible? Did she have anything to do with Mason's disappearance as well? There are lots of twists and turns. I gave the book 4 solid stars! I thought the narrator did an excellent job. She was clear and easy to listen to. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of the audiobook.
I received this book from the publisher through netgalley.com I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I liked this one so much better than her first book Flicker in the Dark. I found Flicker to be predictable and this was not. In fact this book reminds me a little bit of Push by Ashley Audrain in that the ending was sort of a shock. Not quite as much of one as Push but this still had that same omg moment.
Isabelle is desperate to find her son who has been missing for a year. Her ex-husband thinks there is no hope of finding him alive and hopes Isabelle will let it go and move on, as he has.
The wall in her dining room looks like the wall in a police station, she attends true crime conferences and talks about her story. Anything that will keep the investigation alive. On her way home from a conference she meets a podcaster who convinces her to tell her story but the closer they get the more she starts to question his true motive.
Isabelle has been a sleepwalker since childhood and thought she grew out of it until she catches sight of herself sleepwalking into her sons room prior to being kidnapped. She already believes she may have caused her younger sisters death by her sleepwalking and now she is worried she may have done something to her son. Desperate for the truth she keeps digging no worried but desperate for answers.
The narrator was excellent and I really started to question Isabelle and her role in her sons disappearance. There were so many questions and unspoken traumas throughout the book and as the story came together toward the end I was swept away by all the pieces falling into place.
This is definitely a fast read or in my case listen because I couldn't stop. Definitely a great mystery.
This book was great! As an avid thriller reader, not much surprises me anymore. Even with the subtle hints throughout, I did not see the ending coming! The only thing I wish was that there were more chapters to continue the story. Great work!
Loved the narrorator of this story. It was a great thriller. Kept me interested and pulled me in quick. Would recommend to anyone who loves a thriller.
This audiobook specifically stopped playing at 30% and I couldn’t get it to play again. I will need to get my hands on a hard copy to finish it sadly.
Stacy Willingham has done it again! Just like her debut i was left on the edge of my seat. Up until the last page playing detective. It’s best to go in knowing nothing at all and just enjoy the ride.
All The Dangerous Things was a very suspenseful book. I really enjoyed the audio version of this one. The main character’s narrative was very easy to follow along with and I felt her voice was perfect for the role. The story itself was very well written and interesting. I liked the insomnia parts of this story, and what it’s like to function on very little sleep. I felt the ending was expertly crafted. If you enjoy thriller books this is definitely one I would recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was so good! First 5 star I've read in a long time! It really kept me guessing because just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, it twisted and took a very different turn! It has a psychological thriller kind of feel in that you think the main character is the issue. But I won't spoil it! 10/10 recommend.
4.5 ⭐️ rounded up on goodreads!

QMy favorite narrator narrates this book so right away I was sold on doing 🎧! AND I loved this book. There were lots of twists and turns and I was guessing until the very end. This book was WILD and my idea of a fast paced thriller. Note 📝 I like slow burn thrillers too but this is definitely for those of you that prefer to read quick and fast paced thrillers.
Thank you @netgalley & @macmillan.audio for letting me listen to this advanced audio of #allthedangerousthings

Loved it! A flicker in the dark wasn’t really my favorite, so I was pleasantly surprised! The story pulled me in and kept me hooked. It moved along well and I was guessing until the very end. The audiobook narrator was fantastic - super emotive and the varied pitch between the “then” and “now” was helpful.
