Thank you so much NetGalley, St Martin's Press, and Minotaur.

I've been eagerly awaiting the next in this series and TPR did not disappoint!

Mallory is officially an undertaker's assistant in Victorian England. Working with Dr. Gray, her latest task is finding out who is killing men with poison. She has to prove that Gray's oldest sister is innocent before it is too late.

I love this series. It is original and Armstrong writes her characters so well. Gray and Mallory work so well together. Now I have to wait again for the next one! I wonder if Mallory will ever be able to return to her world and what that would mean for time.

Modern-day police detective Mallory Atkinson is still stuck in Victorian Edinburgh, but her employers, Dr. Duncan Gray and his sister, Isla, a chemist, know who she is. Dr. Gray is a medical examiner, and Mallory works as his assistant. She's felt left out lately, but Gray and Police Detective Hugh McCreadie, need her for their latest investigation. Men have been dying of poison in Edinburgh, and their widows are accused of killing them. There have been several deaths, but the latest one is personal. Gray's oldest sister, Annis, is accused of poisoning her husband, Lord Gordon Leslie. McCreadie is eager for the help of Gray and Mallory, but newspapers and the scandalous broadsheets will have a field day when they learn Lady Leslie's sister is a chemist who might have provided poison. When Mallory recognizes the signs of a poison not readily accessible in Edinburgh in 1869, the group will have a difficult time finding the manipulative villain responsible for four deaths with four people accused of murder.

The second time travel mystery, the sequel to A Rip Through Time, is even better than the first, with fascinating details of Victorian Edinburgh, medicine, and women's roles.

The Poisoner's Ring is a fantastic follow-up to A Rip Through Time with a compelling mystery, fun historical facts, and plenty of action.

Armstrong immediately drops readers into the story, so I did find myself playing a little bit of 'what do I remember' before I caught back up with Mallory's adventures. I will say, however, that I appreciate not having to slog through an entire recap of the previous book and instead getting reminders here and there as the story progressed. I also appreciate that the story could get started right off without Mallory having to tip-toe around and figure out what's going on. The important people know who Mallory is and what situation she's found herself in, and they can just go with it. Obviously this is a perk of this being book #2 in the series, but it starts the story off at a quick pace that rarely lets up and keeps readers on their toes.

Armstrong does a wonderful job of continuing to develop both the personal and professional relationships between Mallory and Gray as well as the relationships between Mallory and several other characters. Each character is interesting in their own way--even those who are only part of the story for a few pages--and having a cast where there's not really anyone that makes me roll my eyes (except those who are supposed to elicit that response) is nice. Of course, in a mystery, it's important to keep an eye on every character, and Armstrong keeps the mystery unfolding by introducing new characters here and there and keeping readers wondering just how important they really are to the story.

The mystery itself is a good one; as a toxicologist, I always love a good poisoning, and I love that Armstrong chose to use a poison that was new to the time period and thus made the mystery both harder and more educational. Mallory, Gray, and the team do a great job of following the clues without leaping to conclusions or making themselves look like fools, and although I suspected the culprit, Armstrong threw in plenty of red herrings to make me second-guess myself.

All in all, The Poisoner's Ring is a great second book to this series, and I can't wait for book 3!

This is the sequel to A Rip Through Time, the first book in the series. I love this series and recommend you read in order to understand how Mallory got in her situation.

In book 2 we see more of Mallory doing detective work alongside with Dr. Gray, her employer. He and the others in his household know she's not the maid Catriona even though she's in her body. Some of them don't understand but they have come to accept her role in helping Dr. Gray.

As Mallory and Gray work together and more closely, we see their relationship evolve, but the social constraints of the time don't allow for more, obviously. First, because Mallory is the maid (in the maid's body) and second, because the maid's body is so much younger than she really is.

The case was very intriguing and suspenseful and the title is a play on the words: a ring of poisoners or/and a ring with poison.

Of course, throughout the question remains of if/when Mallory will be able to return to her own time.

I devoured this book and I can't wait for the next one!

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Kelley Armstrong is such a versatile writer! I loved her Otherworld series so much that I wasn’t sure about this time travel series. But I loved A Rip Through Time and this was even better!
Mallory is such a likable character- she’s a hoot and I loved seeing her relationship with Duncan and Isla grow., as well as the introduction of Annis as we learn more about the family history. The mystery kept me guessing until the end, so I couldn’t put the book!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this advanced copy.

This was so much better than the first book. One of my biggest complaints of Mallory's situation was that she got dumped in another time, her beloved grandmother dying alone, and she was just very laissez-faire about it all. This is where you start to see more emotion from all the characters. Meeting the new sister was a treat as well, and I enjoyed the mystery of the "poison ring". Still waiting for some more romance, but this is the slowest of slow burns. Makes me hope the third book will finally make that happen!

Men are dying of mysterious ailments in Victorian Scotland and all signs point to poison. Mallory, still stuck in the past, has to use her investigative prowess when Gray's sister is arrested for poisoning her husband. Mallory is now officially Dr. Gray's assistant although she still does some of her cleaning duties. The novel starts out with her relieved that she is finally able to assist Dr. Gray as he is trying to find out who could be distributing poison as a dead man has turned up that appears to be poisoned. Mallory and Gray get caught up and their own lives as well as Isla might be at stake if they can't find out who the poisoner is.

This was a great mystery novel. I have read many of Kelley Armstrong's other novels but this one definitely has a different feel to it as it is very much a historical fiction mystery novel. I love the twist of time travel as it makes the novel more interesting. Mallory is a great character and I love that she brings her modern touch to the Victorian time era. I just wish that there would be a little more to what is brewing between her and Dr. Gray. A great read for anyone who loves mysteries.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of The Poisoner's Ring by Kelley Armstrong in exchange for an honest review. I don't know how Armstrong is able to write multiple books with such in depth storylines and brilliant characters in a year, but I'm glad she does. I loved the second book in the series. I feel like I know Mallory, Duncan, Isla and McCreadie, they are so well developed. The story of multiple men being killed by poison, a poisoner's ring, was a great start to the story and the layers of intrigue and suspects grew as the story advanced. I tried so hard to draw this book out as long as possible, so I could enjoy it longer, but then I just had to know how it ended. Another amazing book by Kelley Armstrong.

This is in my top 5 favorite books for the year. I was completely drawn into this book by the story and the characters. I an totally vested in them. The plot kept me biting my nails and turning the pages. I couldn't find out what happened soon enough but it was over way too quick. Absolutely obsessed with this book!
I just reviewed The Poisoner's Ring by Kelley Armstrong. #NetGalley

Kelley ArmStrong’s latest entry into her time-traveling saga begun in “A Rip in Time” takes us back to Victorian England where we once again fall in love with Mallory, Duncan, Isla and the rest of the gang. “The Poisoner’s Ring” introduces us to yet another of Duncan’s family, his half-sister, Annis, who has been accused of murdering her husband. There is little story regarding getting Mallory back to her own time and a lot more centering on her relationship with Duncan. Fortunately, this is not overplayed by any means and I actually liked this book more than the first one and eagerly await the next installment. As far as I am concerned, it will be a sad day when Mallory is able to return to her own time. The characters continue to be fleshed out sucking the reader in and caring about not only the main characters, but also the secondary ones as well. What exactly is Mrs. Watson’s backstory? After reading this book, I will not be alone in asking this. Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy and the opportunity to give my unbiased review.

The more I read by Kelley Armstrong the more I feel that she is one of my favorite authors. I love her versatility, her character development, and world building. While this is only book two in this series, this is becoming one of my favorites. I love the mystery and the element of time travel/displacement. I liked how Duncan and Mallory’s relationship (personal and professional) is developing. I also really liked that this mystery involved Annis as it fleshed out the family dynamics a little more. Several men have been murdered by poison so the police are trying to find if there is a poisoner’s ring (women exchanging information about poison to do away with their men). Mallory and Duncan are investigating when Annis summons Duncan because her husband is dying of being poisoned and the case takes a personal turn.

4.5 stars

The Poisoner's Ring is the second book in Kelley Amrstrong's A Rip Through Time series about present-day homicide detective Mallory Atkinsons who finds herself back in time 150 years in the body of a Victorian maid.

I did really like the first book of the series, but found it slow at times since so much of the setting, the characters, and the fact of time travel needed to be introduced. With all of this set-up out in book 1, the plot and the story in The Poisoner's Ring moved much quicker and I could not put this book down! There's a new murder to be investigated, that of men being poisoned and many of their wives being blamed, including Dr. Duncan Gray's sister, and many new and old characters to get to know!

Mallory was just as funny and relatable in this book as she was in the first. Her struggles to adapting to life in the 1860's and acting "normal" felt realistic and always so much fun to read. Duncan was once again a delight and I love seeing him and Mallory interact and work together to solve the case. I loved all the witty and intelligent characters and the mystery that kept me guessing! I can't wait to see what happens next in book 3!

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Minotaur Books for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is second in a series A Rip in Time) by Kelley Armstrong and I enjoyed it even more than the first book in this series.
Mallory is still in Edinburgh in the mid 1850's and becoming more comfortable with her circumstances but still would like to get back home to the present day but in the meantime she and Dr. Duncan Gray get embroiled in a new murder case and it's a tricky one. Men are getting poisoned and the evidence points to Duncan and Islas's sister Annis, whose husband was poisoned. It is up to Duncan and Mallory to sort this out. Lots of twists and turns, red herrings and misdirections keeps the reader guessing up until the very end.

It's very fun to read about Mallory's struggles with her having to wear excessive amount of clothing and how it prevents her from getting around quickly and quietly. She will sometimes bring up some terminology from the present day and her 1850's friends have no idea what she it talking about and it's very amusing.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors. She switches genres with ease and is imminently readable in all of them .

While this is the second book in the series, it can be easily be read as a stand alone novel.

The characters are beautifully depicted. The MCs are intelligent and witty. Set in Victorian Edinburgh, it is clear that careful research was done so that the depiction is accurate.

I highly recommend this book.

Thanks to Netgalley ,the publishers and author for giving me this free ARC. This is my honest review.

This is the second in this series about a modern police officer who finds herself inhabiting the body of a young Scottish maid in Victorian Edinburgh. I enjoyed this one as I did the first, although I think you could start with this one and still understand everything. This mystery hits close to home for Mallory’s employer-friend-more? Duncan, trained as a doctor and now helping the police. A series of poisonings draws in Duncan’s family, and Mallory, Duncan, and their friends investigate, never sure if members of the family might actually be guilty. It’s a well-plotted, compelling read.

A very enjoyable second book in the "Rip Through Time" series. We find Mallory still in Victorian England, settling in, but still hoping to get home. She is now Dr. Gray's assistant, and is helping him assist the Police. We don't have to wait long for a new case--men are being poisoned, including Duncan and Isla's sister Annis' husband. She is accused of the crime, and so Mallory is helping try to clear her. Or is she innocent at all?

I read this book really quickly, I really enjoy Kelley Armstrong's writing style, and the way she builds her character development. The characters are always witty, and I can't wait for the next in this series!

Thank you Netgalley, St. Martin's Press, and Minotaur Books for the ARC!

I absolutely loved reading this book! Kelley Armstrong is an auto-buy author for me, I just love all of her books! I loved this latest installment in this series, seeing Mallory settle in this time, with people who know that she's from our time. Plus the latest mystery was really compelling!

There's still a bit of conflicted feelings with the whole time traveling thing, and how promises and secrets were kept. They do work though things, but it wasn't as smooth as it was for a moment there. But that just means growth with the characters!

A poisoner's ring, the type where there's a poisoner, and the women who need their help passes on the information after they've been helped, not a ring on the finger that holds poison, is such an interesting idea. Watching the investigation unfold, all the layers and secrets, finding the connections-with the personal angle of Annis, Gray's other sister. I couldn't put it down!

A small but important question is surrounded her return. How she's going to get back, what she's going to get back to, and, if there's some way she could come back and forth at will. To get the best of both worlds, her family in the present, and these friends she's made in the past. There was some talk about it, but I have no idea how it might be accomplished, and I can't wait to find out!

This was a fantastic read, and I can't wait for book 3!
