When a young widow finds she has been scammed by a criminal and has lost everything she is devastated and seeks to hide in the mountains of Virginia in a cabin that once belonged to her husband. This is a charming read about small town USA and the delightful people who circle each other in times of need. It keeps you guessing all through the book. I loved cheering her on and watching her try to find her new spot in life. This could be a beach read or one you will love whenever you find it. I highly recommend this one
I wish to thank NetGalley and St Martin’s Press, St Martin’s Griffin for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. I have voluntarily read and reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It feels wrong to give the book 2 or 2.5 stars, bc the issue isn’t really with the book. It’s a comparability thing. This book wasn’t really my style. I read romance, and I like a variety of tropes within the genre, but this one just didn’t do it for me.
The writing is good, but I felt like the distance of the third person narrator slowed the pacing some for me. I also felt like it was heavy on exposition, and no matter what genre I’m reading, I tend to like it either more evenly sprinkled throughout or let readers discover things through character actions, dialogue, and the like.
I also found myself getting impatient with the main character, and I’m not sure that’s entirely fair. I found her reactions to Marx’s disappearance to be both a bit over-the-too and staid. Weird I know. Maybe the emotions displayed just didn’t fit right for the situation, or who I felt the main character was. It someone didn’t ring as true to me as it could have. Though as with so much in reviews, this may also likely be a personal preference for specific character building.
Having said all that, this book is definitely right for a lot of people. I’m just probably not part of that group.
I read an ARC of this book through NetGalley.
I'm a sucker for romance novels! A sweet story of forgiveness and allowing ourselves to move on. It's nice to read about how we can overcome setbacks and heartbreaks and find love again.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
This clean romance is full of themes of love, understanding and forgiveness. The characters are relatable and endearing. The setting is awesome and the author describes it in a way as if your were there.
Natalie is heartbroken after being conned and Detective Randy works with her to solve the case. Just as they start getting close, Natalie moves to a lovely small community to start over. Will the detective lose his chance at a forever kind of love? Read this book to find out!
This is the 1st Nancy Naigle book I’ve read but it won’t be the last. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was a story about family, faith and the others we meet along the way who become family.
I tried to post this on Amazon but it wouldn’t let me.
Wow! How much more can Natalie take? I love how human she is and then when she makes up her mind, there’s no stopping her. Do you believe things happen for a reason in the time they are suppose to? I do. I believe Natalie’s landing in Chestnut Ridge was one of those things and I loved that. I also love the feeling of family in this book. This is a great story with wonderful characters. I would love to make another trip to Chestnut Ridge. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.
A delightful read! Good character development, a fun plot and a scenic location that all make you want to read books about the people and town Nancy Naigle created in Chestnut Ridge. I didn’t want to put down this book! Thank you, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for this advanced reader’s copy!
I ended up not finishing And Then There Was You at around 50%. I thought the storyline was incredibly unique and I felt for Natalie as a character. I also loved the MMC! I just think the writing style and dialog wasn't for me... I found it to be a little difficult to get into but that doesn't mean I don't think others wouldn't enjoy it!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This book is heartwarming sweet contemporary romance. If you like small town books that will take you threw all the feels this is for you.
And Then There Was You by Nancy Naigle is the story of Natalie, who returns from vacation to find her home has been cleared out by the con man she thought was in love with her. With nothing left to her except her late husband's fishing shack, she moves there to create a new life. However, she develops an attraction to the officer who is investigating her case and wonders if it could possibly be mutual? A charming novel. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
I loved the book and how the author took the main character back to the roots of her deceased husband. I just wish there would have been more about the devloping relationship between the detective and the main character. There could have been more for that but over all, great book!
When Natalie (a widow) is conned out of most of her savings Detective Randy is determined to find the con man. The story is about finding the con man and new beginnings. It's a fun way read.
This is a cute little contemporary read. Ive never read anything from Naigle prior to this and was not disappointed. Her writing style was easy to follow. Character development was good. It was a book that had me hooked from the first chapter.
This book was a little slow for me and I found it hard to connect with the main characters. While Natalie is reliving the loss of her husband and the hurt from her swindler, I feel as though the emotions I should have felt from her just weren't conveyed realistically. The story overall is beautiful, and I fell in love with the town, but think it lacked the character development and relationship building that I want to see in a book like this.
Great story with twists, turns and family thrown in the mix. Family isn't always blood but it can seem like they are.
This is the most wonderful book! Wonderful characters enhance this great story. I wanted to move to this town. Make time to read this, it’s hard to put down!
Natalie Maynard was on the romantic trip of a lifetime. Her beau left early to take care of some business at home, but when she returns to her home a few days later, she finds her house empty of all her belongings. She was conned out of almost everything!
Detective Randy Fellowes is assigned to Natalie's case. He has sympathy for her and is determined to find the man who conned her. The biggest problem? Natalie is so embarrassed she won't go public with what happened (Randy had hoped to use this to find other victims).
Natalie remembers her late husband's hunting cabin up in the woods of Chestnut Ridge and decides to head there until she can figure out what is next for her. In the process she falls in love with the people and the area, only to discover more about her past than every expected.
Loved this sweet mystery. The mystery wasn't a hard one to flesh out, but I still enjoyed the journey, as well as the slow burn romance.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I received a free copy of, And Then There Was You, by Nancy Naigle, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Natalie is shocked when she comes back from being away, to find her house completely cleared out, I could not even imagine that., by her boyfriend, now ex. Natalie wants answers and goes to the police for help. This town is wonderful, I liked all the characters, except the ex.
First let me say that I have enjoyed every Nancy Naigle book that I have ever read; this is no exception. A recently widowed woman, Natalie, finds herself in a new relationship that she feels has potential; enough so, that they purchase a house together. Then, in the blink of an eye her world comes crashing down around her; once again. How does Natalie survive another heartbreak. Will she survive or only survive? Will she ever be able to trust herself and her heart again? Read one woman's story of self-discovery and how a little town in the mountains of Virginia help her heal.
This is a beautifully written story that at times is heartbreaking and others can make you laugh out loud. There is a wonderful kaleidoscope of characters that make this story rich.
Sweet romance and second chances
A widow get conned out of all her money, and the detective in charge of her case falls for her hard. Ms. Naigle’s characters are perfect...the goodhearted widow, the good friend, the honest lawman. Add the townsfolk in her new town for humor and companionship. All coalesce to make a perfect tale of broken hearts mending and a strong familial bond. I highly recommend this feel good tale.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC gratis and give my opinion in the same.
