Dark Corners is a standalone follow-up to The Night Swim, both featuring podcaster Rachel Krall. I read The Night Swim several years ago and forgot much of the plot, but was able to follow Dark Corners just fine.
What I liked: the novel was fast-paced and kept me interested. I liked how Rachel was an outsider trying to uncover the details of an unsolved crime. The influencers' gala setting was fun until it went off the rails at the end. I liked how we were trying to figure out who Maddison really was and what she was hiding. The villain throughout was majorly creepy and kept me guessing.
What I disliked: The romance toward the end of the novel came out of left field for me. All of a sudden two characters were into each other. There were a lot of plot points that seemed unneccessary and not at all connected to the missing/murdered women. Rachel was a bit unlikable throughout, especially her insistence she was too good to be a part of the influencer conference.

I adore this author and was so excited to get an ARC of this book. I really enjoyed the characters and the premise for this book. However, I felt that there was just too much going on throughout this book to really be able to follow, and at times I struggled with it all, which bogged me down and made the read much less enjoyable than I was anticipating. The pacing was off as well, the first bit few by and I was hooked, but then it slowed down A LOT until the very end. The ending also seemed to wrap up a bit too quickly and left me wanting more. Overall, it was okay, but I was hoping for more.

This book is a suspenseful, heart pounding psychological thriller. The twist had my head spinning and the cleverly placed red herrings is the chefs kiss. I throughly enjoyed this one. Thank you Netgalley and St Martin's Press for the ARC in exchange for my review.

I enjoyed this book much more that the first Rachel Krall book. It does not need to be read in order, it can be read as a standalone. I am not a fan of books with podcasts, but I did enjoy this one. The social media influencers gave it an entertaining feel. The twist at the end of it bring everything together. Did I see it coming, yes, but it was written in a way that I did not mind that.
The narrator did a great job, especially transferring between the book and the podcast. This made listening to the audio book much more enjoyable.
I want to thank Netgalley, St. Martin's Press, and Macmillan Audio for an ARC, and advanced listening copy of this book.

I loved Night Swim and couldn’t wait for this book! Unfortunately it was not for me. This was an insiders look at an influencer’s lifestyle. I found the story confusing and hard to follow. I also didn’t enjoy the singular POV. Although this book was not my favorite by Megan Goldin, I still look forward to reading future reads from her as I usually love her books!
Many thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and the author for an ARC.

Rachel is a true crime podcaster that gets asked to help on the case of a missing woman. While helping the FBI, Rachel unknowingly has put herself as a target.
Dark Corners is the second book in the Rachel Krall series. While this is the second book in a series, it can be read as a standalone. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Night Swim, and highly recommend reading it too.
Dark Corners is an intriguing thriller. Dark and compelling. Recommended for fans of true crime podcasts and psychological thrillers.
I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed reading more about Rachel Krall. I loved the social media aspects - very real life - and all the details. Plots twists galore, kept me reading fast!
Thankful for the ARC!

I absolutely loved this book! Devoured it quickly. Spent the last 25% on the edge of my seat as everything came together. I adore true crime podcasts and shows, so this was right up my alley and did not disappoint. I even liked the backstory of the influencer though I am not a big fan of that lifestyle.
Now, don't mind me as I head to Amazon to purchase a hardcopy for my collection.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review. This book is a keeper.

I was interested in the storyline, but I think the way it all connected and was tied up was a bit choppy. It felt like the author was grasping at straws to make sure everything came full circle; so much so that I actually rolled my eyes at a few parts at the end.

I first met Rachel Krall in 2020. In Night Swim, the popular true-crime podcast host covers an ongoing rape trial and a 25-year-old mystery. She's back in Dark Corners, where the police call her in to help find Maddison Logan, an influencer who went missing just hours after meeting with Terence Bailey in prison.
This novel goes deep into the world of influencer rivalries, secret societies, and the dangers of the internet. Rachel goes undercover at BuzzCon (an influencer conference) to learn more about who Maddison— the person, not the internet personality— really is.
Megan Goldin did it again! I can't wait for the next Rachel Krall novel!

I went back and forth between audio and ebook, and both had me listening or reading as fast as I could.
I loved the side romance that began between Rachel and Joe.
I hope there is a third book to the series where we can see it continue.
The ending tied up nicely!

Loved the sequel to night swim! We continued to learn more about Rachel Krall and her podcast focused on true crime. However, this time hits close when she’s asked to visit a prisoner set for release. It was action from the very start! Loved the book, hope this isn’t the end of Rachel Krall!

So far, this is my favorite Megan Goldin title!
Rachel Krall is a popular podcaster who has recently gotten an innocent man out of jail for a crime he didn't commit. Now, she's on a plane down to Florida to a prison because a prisoner there wants to speak with her and the FBI has agreed. But when she gets there, everyone is confused and nothing is quite how it seems.
I really liked the "podcast" type format of this book; it was very intriguing. The story was well written and I was kept guessing for most of the book, which is the best type of mystery/thriller!
I did feel like the ending was a little abrupt and didn't wrap it up quite as I would've preferred, but to each their own. I would recommend this title if you are a mystery/thriller fan.

Maybe it’s just me, but I am not a huge fan of the “influencer” take in books. This is just a personal preference but it was a bit hard to get into and stay interested

I will read any and all Rachel Krall books Megan Goldin writes! I love the podcasting investigation aspect, and I think it is really in the moment, this one particularly because of the way Goldin explores influencer culture while looking at suspects!
I really enjoyed the plot twists and the interconnectedness of the characteristics.
The only thing I didn’t buy into was the romance aspect of this.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This wasn't an awful read, but I found some parts to be unrealistic. I enjoyed the story line, but didn't feel connected to the characters. Looking forward to Goldin's next book!

After reading her first book featuring the character, Rachel Krall, a true crime podcast host, I was excited to see another one come out. This time, Rachel gets caught up with the FBI to help find Madison, another influencer who goes missing and they believe Terence Bailey, who is set to get out of prison has something to do with the disappearence.
This book was a great page twisty page turner. I enjoy how Megan Goldin writes the story and brings in chapters of Rachel's podcast episodes as the story is unfolding. I hope to see more of Rachel Krall in the future. Definitely pick this up if mystery/thrillers are your cup of tea. I don't think you need to read the first before reading this one but I recommend that book as well.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced reader copy of this book.

I enjoyed Night Swim and Rachell Krall's character. I was glad Megan Goldin decided to bring her back.
Rachel is an athlete but she is better known as a true crime podcaster. Rachel is called by the FBI to come to Florida. A prisoner, Terence Bailey has shown a desire to speak with her after being visited by a famous influencer, Maddison Logan. Terence is in prison for breaking and entering but he is suspected of the murder of six sex workers. In forty-eight hours his release is imminent and the FBI will ask for any help trying to keep him locked up for life.
Rachel is intrigued about why he is asking for her and even more so when she learns that Maddison has gone missing too. A video shows someone possibly abducting her. Does this mean that Terence had an accomplice?
Rachel decides to infiltrate BuzzCon, an influencer meeting. She will go undercover using her athlete's account instead of her true crime persona. The more Rachel learns about Maddison and the other influencers the more questions she has. Has someone kidnapped her or has she created this to increase her followers count? What is the connection with Terence? and is there a second killer?
I enjoyed this one but not as much as the Night Swim. I like Rachel although, at times, I thought she put herself in danger despite the FBI agent telling her to pack her things and go before the serial killer got close to her.
Cliffhanger: No
3.5/5 Fangs
A complimentary copy was provided by St. Martin's Press via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Megan Goldin also wrote The Night Swim which I enjoyed. This book is a contemporary look at the impact of social media and the world of influencers. It follows the disappearance of Maddison Logan a popular influencer who has gone missing. Rachel Krall is investigating her disappearance and infiltrates an influencer convention to find some leads as to what happened to Maddison. She joins forces with Joe Martinez of the FBI but they don't agree on much of anything. Rachel goes to visit a serial killer in prison to get some answers as to why Maddison went to see him right before she went missing. It's a game of cat and mouse, with Rachel exposing her vulnerability to Terrence Bailey, the killer. As I am not a fan of influencers I didn't really connect with this premise. It was just okay for me.

Book 2 of the Rachel Krall series and I’m real into these books and I highly recommend the audio! There is really something so entertaining about a book with podcast elements as an audio and this didn’t disappoint!
