Another great mystery/thriller rom Megan Goldin! This time we are back following Rachel Krall from Night Swim. Rachel is contacted by the FBI and brought to Florida to meet a serial killer (suspected) a few days before he gets out of jail. She then sticks around to investigate on her own. I thought the mystery was great and enjoyed spending more time with Rachel.

Another goodie by Megan Goldin!

This story had an interesting factor, Trimethylaminuria, that figured prominently into the plot. I’ve never heard of this condition causing horrible body odor, so that was enlightening for me.

Social media influencers also had a prominent part in this story, expanding my knowledge of this new wave of prominence.

And, thankfully, the FBI agent was a good guy and worked well with local authorities as well as with our protagonist, Rachel Krall. Lots of characters, lots of action, lots of jumping around in time, but all in all a good and satisfying read.

Many thanks to the ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. I will look forward to Goldin’s next book!

Book: Dark Corners
Author: Megan Goldin
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Pub Date: August 8, 2023

This is second in the Rachel Krall series. The first being Night Swim. We all know how I feel about series books. I have no love for them. But I really enjoy Megan Goldin’s writing style so I’m pretending it’s not a series. This book was a solid read. I loved the influencer aspect of the story just because I love watching influencers on Instagram. I only gave it three books because it wasn’t necessarily that exciting. I feel like it’s a classic cop chases criminal who happens to be the wrong criminal and then happens to save girl in the last moment kind of book. She tells a great story so that kept me here to the end.

Thank you St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for this sneak peak! Publication date is August 8, 2023.

I loved the first book in the Rachel Krall series so I was so excited to receive the ARC of the second book in the series! I really like Rachel Krall's character - she is very clever and methodical with a very good head on her shoulders. The mystery was very intricate and well thought out, all loose ends were tied up. The twist at the end was fantastic. The only thing I didn't enjoy were the details about social media influencers - there was a bit too much detail on this part. Overall an excellent thriller book!

Rachel Krall, the star of the Night Swim is back in top form. A reporter with a chart topping crime podcast, rachel investigates the disappearance of a top ‘influencers so we covering all the popular genres here. Goldin writes Rachel as if she’s her friend and in an artificial world of a influencers conference Rachel is a real person I can relate to and would certainly listen to her podcasts if they were published. A good premise, solid writing and well developed characters move us quickly through the story and I was thoroughly engrossed. Sounds like there will be a third?

I wasn’t aware that this book was a Rachel Krall novel, like The Night Swim which I loved. She’s a fantastic character. I also loved the influencer world that this novel was set in. I found Martinez’ character to be a little wooden in how he speaks, maybe that’s just me. He seemed almost robotic. There were plenty of little twists to keep my interest though, and I really enjoyed it overall.

I love this Author’s books. Everything she writes is GOLD. This is a sequel to Night Swim and is absolutely fabulous. Rachel is asked to help the FBI to interview a soon to be released imprisoned man suspected of being a serial killer. On more than one occasion I was afraid for Rachel. Rachel jumps in with both feet. Loved the chemistry between Rachel and Special Agent Joe Martinez. Read the book. I highly recommend it. Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

Thank you NetGalley and St, Martins Press for the advanced copy of Dark Corners!

I love everything Megan Goldin writes, and this is no exception. I also like how each thriller she writes is so different. I love Rachel's character, and I liked the introduction of Joe Martinez and the mystery revolving around missing social media influencer Maddison Logan. This book kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat, as well as made me very hesitant to get in an uber again.

I highly recommend this thriller!

Wow, what a ride. Dark Corners by Megan Goldin was entertaining and a page-turner for me. It had touching moments and heart-pounding scenes. Such a greatly weaved story and plotline.

Rachel Krall, the true crime podcaster, returns in the book Dark Corners to search for a popular social media influencer who disappeared after visiting a suspected serial killer.

I love a book that has a great twist and really throws you into, "I did not see that coming." The story had a good pace and really showed the inside scoop on social media influencers and their world.

I would recommend this book (a 5 out of 5 stars for me). I look forward to reading more from Megan Goldin. A good storyteller.

Dark Corners was a great read by Megan Goldin. This book follows a previous work of hers, Night Swim, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone novel on its on. A suspenseful page turner that covers a little police work & a large amount of Insta-Mystery! Good luck figuring this one out before the ending. Really enjoyed!!

This is a stellar follow-up to The Night Swim. A great thriller that was difficult for me to put down. An interesting setting that is relevant to today’s culture and multiple mysteries in one book. I hope there will be more installments of Rachel Krall.

Warning -- Dark Corners by Megan Goldin causes extreme sleeplessness because you have to read "just one more chapter" over and over until it's well past your bedtime! This is a fascinating, multi-layered story. It's pacing is perfect, not too fast and not too slow. It's interesting from the start and also makes you think ... about the plot itself, about social media, about society. And the reader becomes vested in the outcome of the well developed characters. Megan Goldin's writing seems effortless ... there are no ridiculous leaps of logic to try to tie everything together, the storylines and the dialogue flow naturally, the descriptions are sufficient but not overdone, making Dark Corners a pleasurable and easy read. And the ending, oh, the ending! Most of the time when you read a thriller, there is a surprise twist. If you are lucky, you don't see the surprise twist until just before it is revealed. Or, in this case, you are still scratching your head even after it is revealed because you cannot believe you are so surprised by it! I wish I could give it 6 out of 5 stars!

This book was almost a Do Not Finish BUT
The first 50% of the book was a bit all over the place, the story development a bit confusing and not much action. I’m so glad I forced myself to keep reading.
At the 50% point, the book changed completely keeping my interest and I couldn’t put it down.
4 Stars!

I loved Night Swim by Megan Goldin, so I couldn't wait to read this sequel. Rachel Krall is a true crime podcaster who just finished covering a rape case in North Carolina. It helps to have read Night Swim and know some of Rachel's background, but Dark Corners would be fine as a standalone book too. The beginning of this book didn't grab me like Night Swim did, but once I got past the first 10% of the book, I couldn't put it down. Rachel is called into a missing persons case by the FBI. Maddison Logan is a popular influencer who went missing after visiting Terence Bailey in prison. The FBI suspects that Bailey is a serial killer who killed six women, but he has been in prison for lesser crimes and is due to be released. Fearing that they would be putting a serial killer back on the streets and having no good leads to find Maddison, the FBI asks for Rachel's help. She goes undercover to BuzzCon - an influencer conference - and finds out many things that are helpful to the case. She's much more successful at getting information than the undercover FBI agents assigned to the conference, but she puts herself in grave danger. This is another well-written fast page turner from Megan Goldin. I definitely recommend reading this book. It was great to read another Rachel book by Megan Goldin. Tight mystery, vapid influencers, smoking FBI agent. total guilty pleasure book.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

4.5 stars. This book was slow to start. I wasn't really into it for the first fifty pages or so (about when our lead arrived at BuzzCon), but I am glad I stuck it out bc the payoff was well worth it. I loved the characters and how they were fleshed out, and the mystery had plenty of twists, turns, and red herrings to keep it fascinating. I wasn't a huge fan of the romance aspect. It probably works for most people, but Im tired of the trope. Some of the writing in parts was a bit *too* repetitive almost like it was done to make sure the reader gets it, but it was unnecessary. And the pronoun game was a bit overkill, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a fascinating read and I enjoyed 90% of it.
