Dark Corners by Megan Goldin is the second book following Rachel Krall, a successful true crime podcaster. In this installment, she’s been looped into the case of Terence Bailey, a prisoner suspected of killing multiple women. Terence’s release date is coming up, and there’s something not quite right about Terence. Agent Joe Martinez convinces Rachel to speak with Terence, and what he tells her makes her uneasy.
A famous influencer goes missing around the same time, so Rachel gets herself invited to the influencer conference going on in Daytona to get the pulse of the crowd and see what the other influencers know. She learns some interesting details, and is able to begin piecing the case together better than the local police force.
Rachel’s investigative abilities are impressive, and her budding romance with a certain member of law enforcement keep the tension high. While this book cannot hold a candle to The Night Swim, it was still an entertaining read. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital ARC.

I started and stopped this read several times because I just couldn’t get into it and finally finished. I loved the first book of this series The Night Swim which featured character Rachel Krall the podcaster.

In the second book Rachel even more famous than ever is being recruited by the FBI for what she thinks is to just help solve a case but this one she happens to be already more involved than she knows.

It was a slow burn to the ending but I have to say the twist was worth finishing. I love the character but loved her most in the first book. Maybe the podcast true crime genre is played out for me with even more influencers involved than the first one but I would love to see more of this character in general.

This book captured me with the multiple story lines woven together so well, but also developed enough individually that I never “figured it out” and thought it could go multiple ways up until the final pages of the book…and I wish there were more!!

A great thriller, engaging and very topical/current always adds another positive element!

While it is a “second” it is definitely a stand alone story!

An easy read and an entertaining one!! Now I’ll be looking for more from this author both past and future works!

This is book #2 in the Rachel Krall series. I loved Night Swim and knew I wanted to read this one too. While this book is technically a sequel, it’s more like a companion and can be read without having read Night Swim first.

There were a couple times my mouth dropped open due to twists I didn’t predict, but the ending wasn’t as much of a big reveal as I was hoping it would be.
I love the podcast elements of the book, and I love Rachel, but some of the other characters were forgettable.

This book was good, but I prefer Night Swim.

3.5 stars

I loved Night Swim, the first book in the Rachel Krall Series, but this one didn’t grab my attention as much. I think it was the social media aspect and the annoying, superficial influencers that turned me off. I did think it was creative that Rachel went undercover as an influencer to gets answers as to why Maddison disappeared after visiting a suspected serial killer, but I found a lot of the story to be underwhelming and lacking suspense.

Overall, I thought it was an ok story, but didn’t live up to the hype of the first book. Hopefully the next installment will redeem the series for me.

Rachel Krall is back, or for me, here for the first time. While a sequel to The Night Swim, this can be read as a stand-alone (I did it!)-- the author did a great job explaining references to the first book!

An interesting premise and I really enjoyed the incorporation of podcasts, especially since they are so common today--especially in the age of social media.

I did think the police procedural aspect was a little far fetched/not realistic.

Sorry but this book just wasn't for me. Too much about social influencers And podcasts, which I found kind of boring. Just not my type of story, so it wasn't was interesting as the authors previous books.

The Night Swim had me begging for more Rachel Krall and I was so excited to get this #arc from @netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

There are so many different elements in this book, yet somehow Goldin is able to fit them all together.

The characters are well put together from good to bad and the bad is really bad (meaning evil not bad writing).

I kinda had a few things figured out throughout the book but it didn’t stop me from wanting the reveal. Which by the way, the reveal was very well paced. It didn’t drag or leave me wanting more.

Hoping that there is more Rachel Krall in the future!

Solid 3 star Thriller. Did it blow me away? no. Did I still enjoy it? yeah. Our friend Rachel is back, although she annoyed me more this time around. This book was just Rachels POV which was fine but I enjoy more than one POV or podcast transcripts thrown in . There was a lot going on in this book and sometimes I felt like the author was trying to throw pasta at the wall to see what would stick.. It just seemed like a lot of filler. I did enjoy the influencer aspect but i dont think that will be everyone's cup of tea.

3/5

I really enjoyed this one! It was a page turner of a book. I thought the main character was very relatable and I loved how the book delved into the social media world and all the trappings of that world. There were lots of twists and connections uncovered as the story progressed, which I love. I think thriller fans in general will enjoy this book, especially fans of Riley Sager and Sarah Pearse.

Rachal Krall is a true crime podcaster that has through her social channels revealed that some crimes are not what you expect and have found some individuals to be innocent. Rachel gets a call from the FBI asking her to immediately come to Florida and she has no clue why. After arriving she finds out she is about to talk to a gentleman who is about to get out of prison but the police think he is a serial killer. As Rachel speaks to this man she realizes something isnt right and to look deeper. With Rachel looking into the crimes the police start to get nervous about this man being let out of prison on parole. Through Rachel and her less than trusting attitude truths are revealed, feeling are explored, and the evils of being an "influencer" is discovered.

This was extremely captivating from the beginning. There was something about the phone call from the FBI that made me want to read more. The writing was very well done and I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I read a lot of mystery and thriller books and the ending in this book was nothing short of shocking. I thought I had it figured out and apparently was very wrong! Highly suggest reading this book as Megan Goldin is an up and coming star in the mystery/thriller genre!

I love a good thriller. Add in a social media component and it becomes extremely relatable to present day. I loved the main character, Rachel. I was immediately sucked in to the story and was shocked at all the ups and downs. I loved the other main characters and how the book bounces between each point of view. The entire story was a thrill ride and although there weren't a ton of unexpected surprises it was fantastically written. I haven't read previous books from this author and now I need to- I've gone through and started requesting them from Libby!

The Night Swim is one of my favorites. Dark Corners this is a solid thriller with some good twists and turns, just not as good as the first. I like that the book followed the same podcast host as Night Swim while providing a complete fresh mystery. I didn't care much for the influencer aspect, especially since it didn't play a big role in the end ultimately. The conference was too much of a cliche for me to take seriously. Overall, if you are a Megan Goldin fan, you will enjoy our main character Rachel in this sequel. Just don't expect it to be at the same level as the Night Swim

So happy to be back in the Rachel Krall universe! I loved everything about this. It felt different than the first book but in a good way. This time it was less about her true crime podcast and more of her investigating alongside the FBI. I really enjoyed the premise with the influencer conference and I liked how everything got neatly resolved in the end. Her relationship with the FBI agent was a fun bonus and I hope there’s more books about the two of them in the future.

Megan Goldin has done it again! I loved the first Rachel Krall novel, The Night Swim, but this second book in the series was even better, if that’s possible. Rachel goes undercover at an influencer conference at a fancy Florida hotel to investigate the disappearance of a travel vlogger, Madison Logan, when she accidentally becomes the target of a serial killer. Dark Corners was gripping, suspenseful, and kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire book. Rachel is a fabulous character and this book introduced a love interest for her in FBI agent, Joe Martinez. I finished this book in less than two days, so if you are looking for an engrossing thriller, pick it up!

I fall in love a little bit more with Megan Goldin with each book that she writes in this series in that it makes me want to check out other things by her. Rachel Krall is peak entertainment of a character to follow and that is what makes this a good thriller to me.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I did not realize it was the 2nd book in a series thankfully that had absolutely no impact as I did not feel like I was missing the backstory of Rachel the main character. My only concern about the book is that when it switches between chapters that are part of the podcast and chapters that are storyline. I read this book on my kindle and it wasn’t until a few chapters in that I realized the font changed and while this book was an advanced copy I do hope it was distinguishable when the final copy is released.

When Rachel Krall gets a phone call from the FBI asking her to meet up with a prisoner that’s soon to be released, her first inclination is to say no. But her curiosity gets the better of her and she goes. When she finds out that the last and only person (an influencer named Madison) to ever visit Terence Bailey has gone missing, she’s more than interested in the case, but the FBI no longer wants her involved. Taking matters into her own hands, Rachel uses a fake account and joins the influencer convention at a nearby hotel. What she finds is interesting, but where is Madison? When another influencer is fished out of the river one morning, Rachel is quickly questioned being the last one seen with him at the hotel. What exactly is going on? Is Terence responsible for the deaths of six women? Does he have an accomplice on the outside that knows the whereabouts of Madison, or does one of the influencers want her out of the picture? Goldin gives us an intriguing look into the world of social influencers and it’s not all fun and games. A fast paced read that keeps us on our toes. Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

Rachel Krall was curious as to why the FBI wanted to talk to her, especially why they were taking her to Florida to talk to a convicted prisoner who was scheduled to be released in just a few days. Joe Martinez, the FBI agent directing the investigation, was being less than forthcoming about the reasons behind the sudden interview, and Rachel was annoyed. Terrence Bailey, the prisoner in question, was suspected of murdering several young women, although there was no evidence linking him to any of the murders. When Rachel, the host of a popular podcast about controversial crimes, visited Terry, he hoped that she would be able to bring attention to his situation and have the ruling reversed. Instead, the visit created more questions than answers.

I enjoyed Rachel’s adventures in Florida as she navigated the influencers’ convention, subtly interviewed the most popular players, and, oh, yeah, helped solve a crime that had puzzled police for years. Not being of the TikTok generation, I was amazed at how little someone has to do to be famous. Other people really want to see you making a spinach smoothie? Anyway, I like Rachel. I like her strength, her intelligence, and her vulnerability. Rachel is believable, Rachel is real, and I want to read more about Rachel.
