I was very excited for this book, considering that "The Night Swim" is one of my favorite books of all time.
I just didn't connect with this in the same way that I did with "The Night Swim"
I feel like Rachel had a personality swap, and it didn't capture me as easily as the prior book did. She seemed to be more angry in this book, and off putting. I have been rooting for her since the beginning. She was described and portrayed as a badass, doesn't take anything - but she was just angry in this book.
I do feel like there were good parts about this book, I enjoyed the influencer lifestyle portion - I typically do not - but I feel like it was done correctly in this book,
I was hoping for more of the podcast in this book, considering I am a huge fan of mixed media, but alas we didn't really get that in this book.
the mystery aspect was good, and did keep me enthralled through 45% to the end. I think the plot twist were nice, and it was an okay book, just not one of my favs.

Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this eARC.
The suspense did have a chokehold on me and I liked mystery of it, I also thought the premise was pretty unique to a lot of things I've read. The main character was just a bit boring for me.

Dark Corners is thrilling second novel in the Rachel Krall series. It picks up just about immediately after Night Swim. Rachel is home briefly from Neopolis before receiving a call from the fbi and flying off to Daytona Beach, Florida. The FBI sends Rachel into a prison to talk to a prisoner hoping to gain information about a missing social media influencer. After the meeting the fbi quickly tries to dismiss Rachel but of course she doesn’t leave that quickly. What follows is a thrilling tale with multiple twists and an ending you’ll never see coming. Highly recommend!

Ooof. I really loved the Night Swim, so this was a bit of a letdown for the second Rachel Krall book. Rachel, the true crime podcaster is back. A rising influencer disappears after meeting with a suspected serial killer days prior to his release from prison. The FBI calls Rachel in for some help. After a meeting in the prison with "serial killer" Terence Bailey, Rachel goes undercover at a big Influencer's convention. More bodies pile up, and more influencers go missing. Is something big going to happen when Bailey gets out of prison?
This time around Rachel just seemed extremely boring to me. Plus, I'm never a fan of the instant love connection - it's so not realistic. Also, the entire ending was the antithesis of show not tell. Instead we had the detective basically go on a monologue about all the murders that happened and why. Boring boring boring reveal. It's like the author just decided to go with all the lame tropes this time around.

Megan Goldin writes another stellar suspense novel that keeps you at the end of your seat and even the most seasoned readers of this genre might guess who's did it, it's the how and why that prove most exciting. If you ever wanted to delve into the inner workings of social media stars and their narcissistic antics with a murderous twist, this is the book for you. Enjoy!

I am a HUGE fan of Megan Goldin, so I was pumped to receive an eARC. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press! If you loved Night Swim, then definitely get yourself a copy of this one! Though this is a follow-up, you do not have to read Night Swim first.
Dark Corners is perfectly suited for today's world of influencers, whereas in this book, one goes missing. The true crime aspects and inside look at influencers lifestyle was a fantastic style of writing! Rachel, her podcast being "Guilty or Not Guilty," is promised an exclusive to an active FBI case, which involves the disappearance of Maddison Logan, the influencer gone missing.
Dark Corners had me up late too many nights! While I did find it a bit lengthy, it was worth every page! This kept me guessing the entire time! I highly recommend grabbing yourself a copy when it comes out in August (2023).

This is #2 in the Rachel Krall series. It’s a fun mystery that involves the whole of social media influencers. It was a good read!

Wow! What an amazing read. This book had me kept me on edge throughout the entire time I was reading it. The suspense, the mystery and the writing style was quite well done. Moreover I really loved how certain societal themes were also highlighted. Overall I really loved and enjoyed it

First. I want to note that I absolutely loved THE NIGHT SWIM and was so excited to get another book featuring Rachel Krall. Unfortunately, I feel underwhelmed by DARK CORNERS.
DARK CORNERS felt a bit disjointed, and I didn't feel the same pull to keep reading as I did with the previous instalment. I still felt satisfied by the ending but felt that the build up to get to it was too long.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for my #arc!

I read Dark Corners in nearly one whole sitting. I will admit that it was hard to keep track of the characters and practically 3 separate storylines (that of course tie together eventually) but all-in-all a very enthralling read. I will be thinking about this novel for weeks!

I have listened to a lot of true crime podcasts over the last couple of years so I was excited to read Dark Corners. I realized this was the second book in the Rachel Krall series and I hadn't read The Night Swim yet but thought I'd give it go anyway. I'm so glad I did! This book absolutely did not disappoint!
First, I've got to say that Rachel Krall, the true crime podcaster, is one heck of a badass! I found the main storyline involving Rachel, the influencer Maddison Logan and her involvement with Terry Bailey, the suspected serial killer, very interesting. I don't know much about the lives of influencers so I really enjoyed hearing about the lives of the influencers at the BuzzCon convention in Daytona Beach. I wasn't as invested in the side plot involving the murder of one of the influencers. It seemed superfluous to the rest of the story and I thought that part could have been left out. However, the main plotline was enough to keep my interest throughout and this was a great read. I have The Night Swim on my TBR list now but I felt this book did fine as a standalone. Although, I am hoping the next book in the series delves further into Rachel's relationship with FBI agent Joe Martinez, both professionally and romantically. I thought they made a great team!
Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press, Megan Goldin and Netgalley for providing me an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. This book will be availabe on August 8, 2023.

I have been a fan of Megan Goblin ever since "Night Swim". In addition, "Stay Awake" was one of my favorite books of 2022. "Dark Corners" brings back the podcaster Rachel Krall as she is looking for a missing social media influencer. This was such a fun thriller and very true to the times. You really don't know what is going on in real life of social media influencers, only what they post online. If you enjoy smart, fun thrillers, this is the book for you.

In this book, Rachel Krall, THE crime podcaster, is invited by the FBI to see a prisoner who happened to bring up her name. Prisoner Terrence Bailey is slated to be released in two days; however, there's a big problem: the last (and only) visitor of Bailey's disappeared after visiting him. When Rachel's visit doesn't prompt any successful information, she ends up at an influencer conference, hoping to find out information about the missing visitor before Bailey is released.
I was very excited to read this second Rachel Krall book by Megan Goldin. I devoured The Night Swim in under two days, and I really enjoyed the way it was written. I will say that Dark Corners got a little dry in the middle, but it was still good. I liked the other point-of-view, Joe Martinez, FBI agent, but I thought the placement of his chapters was a bit disjointed. I also wanted to hear more of Rachel's podcast because it was lacking in this book.
Overall, the last third of the novel was very strong with some twists and turns that weren't in The Night Swim (at least weren't as predictable), but there were parts at the beginning that left me bored rather than hooked and intrigued. I would recommend this to others if you do like thrillers.

While this book was enjoyable, it was definitely a little disappointing as a follow up to The Night Swim. I found Rachel to be a little too rude to have everyone talk to her as willingly as they did, and everything wrapped up a little too easily, in my opinion. But, it was a fun, fast read, and I appreciated the (brief) exploration of the role socioeconomic status plays in missing persons cases.

I loved The Night Swim and was stoked to score an early copy of Dark Corners. In the second book in the Rachel Krall series the true crime podcaster is drawn into the world of social media and influencers. Despite having a wildly popular podcast Rachel steers clear of social media and its web. However, when a popular van-life influencer goes missing the FBI begrudgingly asks for Rachel's help. Right before she disappeared, Maddison, the van-lifer visited a Terrence Bailey a man soon to be released from prison. While imprisoned for breaking and entering, Terrence is widely believed to be responsible for murdering at least six woman. So, the FBI wants to know why did Maddison visit Terrance and is it connected to her disappearance?
I love Rachel as a character and look forward to more in her series. I think I enjoyed The Night Swim a bit more mainly because I felt the characters were a bit easier to follow. Overall though, another great book my Megan Goldin.

I really enjoyed this book! I had no idea it was a sequel but I had no problem reading this as a stand alone. Rachel Krall is a true crime podcaster who investigates the disappearance of a social media influencer. Maddison Logan goes missing after visiting Terrance Bailey in prison. The FBI believes it’s linked to the visit and Terrance has something to do with it. This book is a fast paced page turner that keeps you thinking throughout the book.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and the Author for giving me an Arc copy to read for an honest review!

Rachel Krall's podcast has taken off since the case in North Carolina. She's due for some much needed downtime. Unfortunately, she is summoned by the FBI to Florida where an inmate who is set to be released from prison in just a few days shows interest in her. Rachel works alongside Joe Martinez to hunt down the missing Madison Logan. Rachel is sent into the world of influencers, where their biggest concern is their follow count. Sometimes monsters hide in plain sight. Rachel will come face to face with a crime that extends much deeper than a missing person case.
This was a great follow up to The Night Swim. Megan Goldin does an excellent job of making her characters relatable while also making their journey intriguing. I hope to see more in this series. Thank you Netgalley for the advanced copy of Dark Corners.

Megan Goldin delivers with Dark Corners. I had recently read Stay Awake, which felt a little bit like a let down after having enjoyed The Night Swim so much, but with returning to the character of Rachel Krall Goldin sucked me right back in.
<spoiler>Diving into the strange, sometimes scary world of internet influencers was a great way to give a lot of misdirection in an otherwise straightforward story. The scariest monsters hide in plain site indeed…. I enjoyed the red herrings giving me different angles to consider. The characters were engaging and more complex than we had been lead to believe, and it made me appreciate the twists and turns all the more for the way they revealed the true nature of the people whose stories we were learning. This was well paced and interesting from the start and I look forward to more books in this series.</spoiler>
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for my advanced reader copy.

4* True crime podcaster Rachel Krall is sent by the FBI to investigate the abduction of Maddison Logan, a popular social media influence from Buzzcon, and the link to serial killer Terrance Bailey. Mixed with influencing and popular versus unpopular this is the second installment of character Rachel Krall. See Night Swim. Thank you NetGalley and Megan Goldin for the ARC. Can’t wait for book 3!

I LOVED this fast paced novel about Rachael, a crime podcaster, who is summoned to Florida by the FBI. A man is about to get out of jail and they think he's killed multiple people. They need her help.
Dark Corners is a fast paced thriller. They characters are extremely likable and relatable. I sure hope there is going to be a third book in this series. I need it!
