Let me start by saying I really wanted to like this book. The blurb sounded cute and I love books about writers, especially someone writing a romance novel. The duel perspectives of Grace and Colin I didn't really enjoy. For me personally to enjoy a dual perspective book I need to still feel like the book is unfolding around me instead of being narrarated AT me. Having multiple perspectives is I guess not my thing unless it's perfectly executed. Also the female lead in the book "sharts" herself 9% into the story. I don't know if this was an attempt at humor but it felt super immature and completely irrelevant to the story. I mean I can laugh as much as the next person at embarrassing moments that make characters seem more "human" but this just left me scratching my head. Before we even really know who Grace is, what makes her tick? What endears her to the reader? She craps her pants in a completely non funny way, right away? Maybe I have just gotten too picky over the years but things like this feel silly and make me want to quit reading which is exactly what I did. Take my review with a grain of salt since I only made it about 20% in before deciding to hop back on my TBR list and find something new. The other 80% may have been amazing I couldn't get past the "Alfredo fart".

So, this book had so much potential. I related so much to gracie and found her to be so funny. Then, it took a weird turn. She was describing every single movement and every single embarrasing moment in her day trying to be relatable and it took up so much of the book. I liked the email portion of the romance and I also loved how he was trying to help her with her book by using his own pain, but I just felt like the chemistry was off because of how they wrote gracie. I found it awkward and the dialogue was not cute to me. It had such an amazing concept but unfortunately didn't work as well for me. Thank you netgalley for the arc.

A romance writer drunkenly sends her high school crush an email which then spirals into a cute back and forth as they reunite and begin to fall in love... but nobody said the path to love was easy and theirs is going to be one for the books, Gracie Landing’s life is a bit of a mess. Her fiancee cheated on her with their wedding planner and she just can’t seem to get her book right... so in an effort to cheer herself up she goes out drinking with her best friends... and ends up drunkenly emailing her high school crush, Colin Yarmouth who is now a successful attorney. Colin is still dealing with the messy divorce from his ex who not only cheated on him, stole stuff, but also gave him an STD six months after their marriage, He is not doing well, but then he suddenly receives an email from the cute girl he knew in highschool, and she’s funny, and he feels like he has to continue to talk to her, because she makes him feel something he hasn’t in a while and soon Gracie and Colin begin a cute back and forth email relationship, talking about their days, their interests, and how their lives have changed, What starts off as fun flirty emails turns into phone calls, and then dates as both Colin and Gracie fall for one another... and soon Colin gives Gracie the idea that she should have him help her with her book, by basing a character off him and his own relationship experiences. What Gracie doesn’t know is that by using Colin’s story, it’s going to compeltely wreck havoc on her life, career, and even her own happily ever after. Can Colin make this happily ever after work and win the girl he couldn’t get until now or will he wreck his own chances with the girl he’s come to think of as the one. Will Gracie be able to finally get her happily ever after with the one guy she’s been crushing on since highschool or was it all fiction? This one was an okay read, both Gracie and Colin are dealing with bad exes and they connect with each other years after highschool. Colin was a pretty good love interest, he really wanted to give Grace her space while also fighting for her. The thing was that the book ended so abruptly and had a few loose strings that left me wanting more. This book could have done with like 4-5 more chapters or an epilogue of some sort. If you are a fan of the trope of “I never saw you until now but now that I do, I know you’re it” then this is for you.

In agreement with another reviewer, I am also a sucker for novels about writers, and I will always look into any novel with “book” in the title. This novel, about a romance writer who drunkenly emails a former high school classmate one night is such fun. Told in two voices, Gracie, the writer, and Colin, the high school heartthrob, the reader gets motivation of each character in an organic way. Gracie is hilarious, and both voices ring true to their gender.

Colin provides Gracie with help from a male perspective for her novel and romance and problems ensue. Since Gracie thought she was a “nothing” in high school and Colin was a “god”, the romance development is very satisfying. I could not put the book down. And, it is always gratifying to see each character get what she or he deserves at the end. This was an exceptionally enjoyable read.

This book was not for me. I sat down to read it as soon as I got the notification I was approved. I wish I liked it more than I did.

Gracie is a heart broken romance writer with an ex-fiancé and writers block. Colin is Gracie’s long time high school crush, a lawyer/partner at his families business. A night out with friends results in too much drinking and an email sent to Colin from Gracie. To Gracie’s surprise, Colin writes back and they begin to reconnect and develop a new relationship.

This book can be a fast read due to the interspersing of emails and short conversations. Colin was a decent character, as he had some depth to him and I found him to be likable. Gracie was not a likable character for me. She is supposed to be a 31 year old romance novelist and I felt like a lot of her dialogue, both internal and external, was very childish and silly. I could have done without the sidebars and multitude of extra lines in parenthesis, as I feel like it broke up the story. I feel like this book is definitely meant to be romantic comedy, but I didn’t find it to be funny.

I started reading this book this morning, and I just finished it tonight! I couldn't put it down. I love reading stories about writers, especially romance book writers! I love getting a behind the scenes look at the writing process, and I love how the author, KJ Micciche, pulled back the curtain on the life of a writer! She showed how real it is to struggle with writing and keeping up with a deadline. I loved reading Gracie's words as she developed her characters and wrote her story.

Gracie thought that she was going to be married, but when he fiance leaves her for their wedding planner, things take a turn for her. After a drunken night out with her friends, she emails her high school crush, Colin! She barely spoke to Colin in high school, but she wrote him secret love notes and admired him from afar. When Colin reads her email, he is intrigued. They begin to email each other back and forth, and this leads to meeting in person. Colin starts to read Gracie's work, and he helps with her writing.

I won't give any spoilers, but this story has so many twists and turns! It surprised me a lot, and it had me laughing out loud while I was reading this book at work! There were so many layers to this story, and each character had so many dimensions to them.

I wished that there was more of an ending to the story. I wanted more from Gracie and Colin, and I think that the story could benefit from an epilogue.

I just finished this book, less than 24 hours after starting it. I got sucked in. It made me grin like a fool, cackle, laugh out loud and feel teary eyed.
