“To break out of a 24-hour time loop, all Jack needs is for Gemma to fall in love with him in a single day. All Gemma needs is to remember him first . . .”

As Time Loop tropes go, this one had very little looping. Taking place on a single day, all the repetition is explained by the MMC to the MFC, who remembers next to nothing.

I didn’t hate the story. The plot and characters were all fine.

I enjoyed many of the secondary characters (particularly Helen), the setting, and the just desserts served to the ex-boyfriend.

I loathe, however, the “he’s your father, you should forgive” line of thinking, or the fact that the book Just. Wouldn’t. End.

You know how, in the last Lord of the Rings, when there are 27 epilogues? This was similar, but I cared a lot less.

So much time was given to characters explaining things to other characters, I lost all interest.

Except for Helen.

I loved Grouchy Helen, and I’m glad she showed up again. I just wish she had better (read: snarky) dialogue.

6/10

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Dutton for this ARC.

The Deja Glitch by Holly James
.
Gemma crashes into Jack at her morning coffee place and gets a small sense of deja vu from the gorgeous guy. When Jack tells her they actually have met before and are stuck in a time loop, she’s wondering what is wrong with him.
.
What I liked:
-I love a good time loop story.
-This story kept getting better and better for me.
-I really adored the way that the people around Gemma kept nudging her to put herself out there to really be happier in her life.
-Nigel Black was such a great side character and I loved him.
.
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Probably one of the best time loop stories I’ve read.

2.5 stars

'The Deja Glitch' is a super cute time loop romance in which Jack has to make main character Gemma fall in love with him in a single day in order to escape the loop which he had been living in for 5 months.

On that note I absolutely adore Jack however he is easily forgettable, along with Gemma and a whole load of unnecessary side characters. Even while everything happens over the period of one day I found it extremely slow and dragging quite a bit at some sections, along with that Gemma is extremely negative, and truthfully, boringgg

Not for me. I didn’t click with any of the characters and the writing was just not my style. I think that the story didn’t have enough development

I normally find time loop stories hard to believe and very repetitive, but this one blew me away! Holly James crafted this romcom beautifully. I loved all the characters and the writing. I highly recommend this book!

This was definitely a fun read. The two MCs had such a cute dynamic in how they pushed each other forward. So cute!

To break out of a 24-hour time loop, Jack needs Gemma to fall in love with him in a single day. Gemma just needs to remember him first…

Gemma and Jack have been stuck in a time loop for 147 days. The problem is only Jack knows this, Gemma just thinks this is any other day. When she literally runs into Jack at a coffee shop, she gets the strangest sense of dejavu- she knows this man and has seen him before. He insists they have met many, many times and tries to convince her they’re stuck in this time loop together and he believes the only way out is for Gemma to fall in love with him. Through the next 24 hours we get to see how the 2 of them figure out a way to break the loop and get back to their normal lives.

I don’t normally love time loops, but this one was done really well! I liked that it was told in a day rather than taking us through the 147 days of J&G meeting over and over. Their love story is cute and I found myself yelling at Gemma several times to get it together and remember Jack. There are also story great lines about family, friendship and personal goals which bring everything together nicely. If time loops (and dreamy guys) are your jam, I would definitely recommend adding this to your TBR!

This review is my opinion and my opinion only. I did received this book pre-publishing, but this review are my thoughts and mine alone. This is my first book by Holly James, and definitely not the last. I was dragging my feet about reading this book. Now I’m kicking myself for waiting. I really enjoyed this story. It was complex and interesting story. It pulled me in almost immediately and did not let go. If the real world didn’t need my attention, I would have read it in one sitting!
This story is about Gemma and Jack living a time loop. I know! I normally don’t like time loop stories, but the quality of writing is amazing.
I don’t know how to give you more without spoiling the book. So, I’m going to leave you with…Please give this story a try. You will enjoy it.

I was really hopeful that this book would satisfy my love for the Groundhog Day movie….sadly we jump into Jack already full on on the loop and loving Gemma. We only read about Gemma’s journey to love.

It’s one day.

One day wasn’t enough for me to feel the chemistry between Gemma and Jack.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Gemma Peters is shocked one morning when she bumps into a stranger at a coffee shop and he tells her that they know each other. Well, he knows her, and he has been getting to know her for the equivalent of months. He’s been stuck in a time loop, living the same day over and over again. Naturally, Gemma is suspicious. But he is cute, and he otherwise seems normal. And little things do seem to give her a sense of déjà vu. Plus, it just feels like she can almost remember kissing him. How is that possible when she really doesn’t have a solid memory of kissing this man?

So Gemma goes along with Jack on his claims and does some investigating with him. The big question is this: what’s going to knock the two of them (well, him?) out of this time loop and get things back to normal?

Jack suspects the answer is this: he has to get Gemma to fall in love with him in this one day. And that will take a miracle. Because Gemma has been burned badly in love, and she knows her heart won’t go for this kind of thing.

But maybe on this one crazy day, it can.

The Deja Glitch doesn’t have an original premise, but it’s so cute and the characters so likable that that is perfectly OK. It’s sweet and fun and a nice light read, perfect for an end-of-summer pick-me-up.

Thank you to NetGalley, Dutton and PRH Audio for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

CW: parental abandonment (past), cheating (past, non-MCs), family tensions

I would recommend if you're looking for (SPOILERS)

-m/f contemporary romance
-time loop
-you can break the time loop
-destined

I listened to this one on audio and just loved it. It was the perfect mix of fun, tender romance, and a dash of magic. I loved the twist that Gemma wasn't stuck in the time loop, Jack was, but he needed her to fall in love with him in one day to break it. It created such delicious tension, all while Gemma's life- both personal and professional are at a crossroads.

Jack was such a sweet hero, gone on Gemma, but also recognizing the bonkersness of the entire situation. The friendship, the sibling relationship, the secondary characters were drawn so well. This was just great escapism and I can't wait to read whatever Holly James writes next.

I don't love the time loop trope so this one was a little hard for me. If someone likes the trope maybe this book would work better for them!

My main problem with this book is that what I like most in time loop stories is following the time loop in itself. And in this book we follow only when day in the time loop for reasons that would be to spoilery to say. For that reason everyhting felt really rushed and surface level and I really didn't feel a connection to the story.

Thank you Netgalley, author, and publisher for the ARC.

This was my first read from this author. The Deja Glitch was all in all a good read but at times it fell flat for me.

I’ve never read a romance quite like this one before so it was definitely a new romance genre for me.

Gemma just had me pulling my hair out at times and then she had me going “awww” at other times. A lot of whiplash if I’m being honest.

I will definitely be checking more from this author as one book doesn’t tell the whole story of an author! ❤️

Gemma and Jack are stuck in a time loop. Except, while Jack has spent the last five months(!!) reliving the same day again and again, the audience gets clued into Gemma's perspective on The Day it May Finally End. Jack has a theory on what he has to do to finally end this curse - but is Gemma game to help? Or will he have to try again tomorrow?

Ah yes, the time loop romance... I've been waiting to find THE perfect, unhinged, time loop romcom, and this one came pretty close except for one key thing: Why don't we get MORE loops?? While I appreciated the ways that Holly James subverted expectations (Gemma's POV rather than Jack's, Jack attempting to get Gemma to fall for him in a day after falling for her over the course of months), there ended up being a LOT going on plot-wise that sacrificed depth. Another aspect of the story centers on Gemma's relationship with her dad, and that really frustrated me despite the attempted positive resolution that James pushed for.

In all, this isn't the worst time loop romance I've read - in fact, there was a lot I enjoyed! But it still isn't THe One.

The Deja Glitch is such a fun, romantic ride of a book with a time loop twist. Main character Jack is stuck in a time looping Thursday. He needs Gemma to fall in love with him in that time, but Gemma doesn't remember him. Each repeating day it all starts over again. The story is so smart and has a wonderful sentimental flare to it. The characters and story were very engaging. I generally struggle with time look tropes as I generally get bored or just confused overall. Thanks to James' writing, I had no trouble at all. I even looked forward to the repeating next day and see the continuing challenges Jack faced. Overall, a solid contemporary romance read. This is definitely one I will add to our library collection.

The best description I can give of the premise is Groundhog Day but from Rita's perspective. I enjoyed going along for the ride with Gemma as she tried to wrap her head around what Jack was telling her. I thought the feelings of deja vu that Gemma experiences as she relives the day lent a nice touch, and also makes you think back to the times that you have had that feeling. I liked that there were some great elements to the story outside of the time loop and romance that gave it a well-rounded feel. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good contemporary romance, Groundhog Day, and family dynamics thrown in for good measure.

I LOVED this book. The premise felt uncommon: woman starts day, only to find she's relived this day over 100 times woth a guy named Jack, who thinks they're basically in love. Obviously he's crazy, right?? It's 'Groundhog Day' meets romance novel and I am here for it.
I thought the writing was witty and the pacing was great - always something going on, but circling back around to the fact that they're reliving the day. I was suuuuper invested in Gemma + Jack right off the bat, and the plot + dialogue completely drew me in.

The Deja Glitch is an easy read that has a unique premise. As a reader who is very literal and struggles with science fiction and fantasy, this book did make my brain cramp at times. LOL.

I just had to tell myself to just enjoy the story and not worry about the time travel element. I would consider this a beach read and a nice distraction from life.

I received an ARC of the book from Netgalley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was very cute. It reminded me of a chick flick I would love and watch repeatedly. A little magical, a little far fetched, but super adorable. Jack and Gemma are fated for each other, Gemma just don’t know it. This is a quick read detailing a long day with Groundhog Day inspiration. No spice but romantic and sweet. Lots of classic tropes.
