Such a cute book filled with the cheesy yet much loved aspects of rhe perfect romcom. Grand gestures, running through airports, music dedications, etc. There were a few parts that were slow moving, however, I do feel the author still keeps the reader engaged the story flows well. I loved Gemma and her courage. And I loved Jack and his persistence. Well written characters.
The Deja Glitch is the follow-up to Holly James’s debut novel, Nothing but the Truth. It’s a time-loop story, so think of a mash-up of real-life Nicole Richie living Groundhog Day.
Gemma Peters is the daughter of a legendary rock musician. She lives in Los Angeles and is working as a radio producer. She has a ban on dating musicians ever since her last boyfriend used her to get a record deal from her dad. Between her best friend, Lila, and her dog, Rex, she is fine without a man.
When Gemma crashes into a cute guy one Thursday morning at her favorite coffee shop, she’s surprised that he knows her name. She gets a déjà vu feeling whenever she looks at Jack, and she remembers the feel of his lips on hers. Unknown to her, she actually met Jack the night before at Lila’s birthday party. Due to a time-loop, Gemma and Jack have lived this day over and over for five months. Jack believes that time will only move forward if he can get Gemma to fall in love with him before the end of the day. Gemma is unaware of the time-loop.
I enjoyed Gemma’s dynamic with her best friend, Lila, the most and the romance between Gemma and Jack second. I’m not a fan of time-loop stories, but The Deja Glitch is well-written, and the characters are engaging. Definitely a quick and enjoyable rom com!
I received an advance review copy (ARC) from NetGalley and Penguin Group Dutton for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. I love a time loop when it’s done well and this was. Unlike other time loop stories, the reader only experiences the time loop (less the very beginning) through Jack’s explanations, which was a big pro for me. There is a lot of plot in this story, which takes place in a single day, but it didn’t feel rushed and wasn’t too long of a novel. I don’t want to give too much plot away, but this one was cute and perfect for us cute romance lovers.

Oh my god?? This book was SOOO good! This is definitely making my top books of 2023. As per usual, I went into this knowing nothing because I think summaries and blurbs are too spoilery and personally find it much more fun to go in blind. Based on the title, I was expecting something along the lines of them crossing paths every day at this one random place in town and one of them says they're getting deja vu and then romance follows. This was NOT THAT. I don't know why I didn't think about the potential for a time loop, but when I realized that's what it was... OOOH was I excited!! It lived up to everything I was hoping for and more. The way that Jack has been in the loop for "months" and finally finds a potential way to get out with Gemma is just too perfect. Yes, it's cliche, but it is still so unique and filled with its own little twists and turns. I devoured this book in one sitting and will be rereading soon. Highly, highly recommend to everyone looking for a super cute, mildly cliche, take on a time-loop romance.
Going into this story I was not expecting to like it as much as I did. It has two things I usually don’t like: time loops and insta-love tropes. What I got though was a charming rom-com with likable characters (and good development) and a good wholesome story.
3.5⭐️
At her best friend’s birthday party, Gemma just happens to spend the evening with a very charming and even more handsome stranger. They really hit it off, and the night ends with the best kiss of her life. While getting coffee the next morning, Gemma quite literally crashes into this handsome stranger. But Gemma doesn’t remember him…but there is a strange sense of déjà vu. Turns out, Jack has been stuck in a time loop for about 5 months and seems to think Gemma is the key to break out of it.
So overall, this was cute and fun! I really liked Lila’s character - she seems like the greatest friend ever.
I’ve been trying to figure out why this book felt soooo long to me, and I don’t think it helped that the entire book takes place over the course of one day. The time loop thing was interesting and it was fun that Jack knew about it while Gemma didn’t, but I think there was a missed opportunity for dial POVs across multiple days of this time loop. I also just wanted more of the romance between Jack and Gemma!
Also the fact that breaking the loop required Gemma falling in love with Jack in technically one day made this feel a bit too insta-lovey for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review! The Déjà Glitch will be published 8/1/23.
I was provided a free advanced copy of this book from @netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
This is a fun romance story set in a Groundhog Day type time loop!
While celebrating her best friend's birthday Gemma meets Jack and feels an instant connection. When the night ends with a kiss, she wonders if it will lead anywhere.
The next morning she wakes up and has an odd feeling of deja-vu multiple times. At the local coffee store she runs straight into a guy ruining her favorite shirt! But when she sees who it is she has a weird sense of familiarity with this stranger.
Jack is stuck repeating the same day over and over, every morning literally running into the girl of his dreams hoping she will recognize him!
I enjoyed this fun story! It was about falling in love (in 24 hours 😬), forgiveness, letting go, and holding fast!
This one is set to be published tomorrow! So go grab it for a fun romance!

Imagine being stuck in a loop, and you don’t even realize it, until someone you think you have seen before tells you all about it. I cant even describe this any better, all I know is that Gemma and Jack were a dream!!!! It all started the day of her best friends Lila’s birthday, she meets this hella handsome guy, and them the next day you bump into this guy but then don’t really remember him but sort of. WILD!!!! But it was so much fun to read, they are both running out of time…. It was romantic, and at times so heartfelt. Jack has to work hard to convince Gemma she’s the key to breaking the loop, and the grand gestures between these two made me so emotional. Love love!!!
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
It is hard for me to resist a good time loop novel. This one was a delight! Most books have one person stuck in the loop, trying their hardest to break free. Our hero Jack Lincoln is a screenwriter who can't seem to write the next day of his own life. He has lived the same day 147 times. Then -- he kisses the girl! Gemma Peters has no idea what is coming her way, but she does love that kiss. Now they have one day to fall in love and break out of the loop. Can they do it? Gemma is not invested at first. That is all I am going to reveal about the plot. I'll summarize by saying that this Hollywood novel gives your glimpses of both the music and streaming video sides. Really enjoyed watching Gemma and Jack work through the day and the other challenges in their lives. Also glad to have a clean, closed door romance.
Thank you to Penguin and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book! The time loop aspect was unique compared to others and it's one that I found to be most interesting!
For Jack, the main male character, to live over the same day over and over and trying to figure out how to get Gemma, the main female, to fall for him believing she is the 'key' to this anomaly is not only absurd but weirdly romantic. The determination to continue after almost 5 months of failures is insanely ridiculous but also admirable because it allowed him to fall for Gemma, who has no idea what in the world is going on, until Jack kisses her one night to test out a theory. She then slowly starts to feel as if the world before her has already happened. Most of the story follows Gemma and her life and I enjoyed getting to read about. I did however, wish we were able to get to know Jack more because he was great! A truly cute and great love story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Dutton for the gifted copy!
Y'all know by now how much I enjoy romance, and add a touch of fantasy? Sign ya girl up. Big thanks to Dutton Books, Penguin & NetGalley for this ARC to read and Review. The Deja Glitch by Holly James is out TOMORROW and it is a whimsical delight!
We begin with Gemma James having a fairly ordinary day. She's a radio producer and still bouncing back from a very tough breakup. Within pages, she is on her way to her bestie Lila's birthday. Gemma is a gal with a routine and is planning to be home and happily in bed with her dog within hours. But a stranger at the bar catches her eye, and in a very non-Gemma move, she joins him.
What she doesn't know is that this isn't her first meeting with Jack wasn't exactly the case. She runs into him the next morning at her local coffee shop - only she doesn't remember him. And it's then that we learn that while Gemma doesn't know Jack, he certainly remembers her - because he's been reliving this day for the past few months.
I keep these reviews spoiler free, but what a delight it was to watch these two navigate this wild situation. It was romantic, heartfelt and just very fun! The perfect summer read, in my opinion!
I'll be posting this on goodreads, retail sites and my bookstagram @scottonreads
3.5⭐️s rounded to 4.
Gemma and Jack are stuck in a time loop that can only be broken by love. The problem is that only Jack is able to remember the days they keep repeating. His mission is to get Gemma to remember it all too.
This was a cute read but was a little slow in some places. Overall I really enjoyed it.
This review is available on my Goodreads.
"Please remember me, Gemma."
I vibed with this book a lot more than I was expecting to, if we are being honest. I've seen the time loop trope before, and as Jack states in the book, they are predictable and packed with so many cliches. And yet this book did everything right.
I love that we follow Gemma throughout this journey, the one who doesn't know they are in a time loop. Seeing her go from non-believing to in love is such an experience.
My favorite thing about this story though has to be that out of the characters we meet, I actually liked them all. Gemma is realistic. Jack is desperate but fun. Lila is such a good friend, and I love how supportive she is. I wish we had seen more of Patrick.
I enjoyed this book so much, and may have just found myself a new favorite author.
When Gemma runs into a cute guy one day she can’t help but shake the feeling of deja vu she gets when she sees him, even though they’ve never met. But the truth is, she has met him, they’ve been stuck in a time loop and reliving this day for months. Jack remembers them all, but this is Gemma’s first time recalling any part of it. Luckily, Jack has a plan to get them out of this time loop - he is convinced they'll be able to move on to tomorrow if Gemma just falls in love with him by the end of the day.
This might be the most unique time loop story I’ve read and I was here for it. Unlike most time loop stories, we only see one loop instead of many and we get the point of view of someone who is just finding out they are in a time loop rather than the POV of someone who has been aware for days (or even months). I really enjoyed getting to see Gemma figure out what was happening and try to understand Jack’s perspective since he had been stuck for a while. Gemma was sometimes a bit frustrating, but Jack was an incredible love interest and I adored him! This was a fun read to wrap up my month with!
Thanks to Penguin Group - Dutton and NetGalley for the advance copy.
if i was stuck in a time loop, i would not survive. now saying that, i will give this a solid 3.5. i liked the story but i did struggle to really feel the characters. overall, it was a cute short story!
thanks to NetGalley and publishers for this ARC!
THE DEJA GLITCH by Holly James is such a fun take on the time loop trope! This is a cute, feel good read!
I so so so wanted to like this one because the storyline sounded so interesting, but I just could not get into it! I’m a pretty quick reader but this one took me weeks to finish! it could very well be a me problem, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. that being said, I did like the ending & felt like it wrapped everything up perfectly :)
I loved this book! I've always been a sucker for time loop stories ever since watching Groundhog Day as a kid, and this didn't disappoint. Jack and Gemma were great characters, the story kept me interested throughout (I finished it in one sitting after thinking I'd just be reading a single chapter), and the love story gave me butterflies. I couldn't ask for anything more from a book!
The Déjà Glitch by Holly James is a groundhog day type of story that involves a 24-hour loop that needs to be broken. I love these type of stories and seeing how the characters react in this situation, imagine how I would react to the day always restarting.
We follow Gemma and Jack, but the book is written in Gemma's POV. I do think it would be cool to see Jacks POV and what he went through in more detail. The romance between them is light and cute and fluffy, which is perfect for a summer read.
Even though I've read similar books, this was a fun and fresh take on the trope and I really enjoyed how the author executed it. It's also perfect for those who don't enjoy spice as this is a closed-door romance.
Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Group Dutton for the eARC!
*thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately, this book was not for me. I did not connect with any of the characters and didn't love the choice of single POV for this book. I wanted to learn more about Jack's character. It felt like a very surface level book and I wanted a bit more depth.
I'll definitely be checking out the author's future work because while the plot and characters didn't work for me, I liked her writing style.
